Katy Perry surprises mudslide survivors at benefit concert – Katy Perry performed a surprise set on Sunday at a benefit for first responders and survivors of January’s deadly mudslide in Montecito, California.

It raised nearly $2 million, according to organizers. “This means the world to me,” Perry told CNN. “This is where I flourish. My heart was broken by the tragedy, the mudslide. I’ll do anything to help this community.” Perry grew up in nearby Goleta. The Voice: Kelly Clarkson on Coming Full Circle, Battling with the Other Coaches, and More – There was talk that American Idol reached out to you for its revival. Did that happen? Man, I’m going to be real with you and I’m not being egocentric, but a lot of people reach out to me to be a part of singing things, for the obvious reason that I was in the first one that everybody watched. But I’m not trying to get around the question. I love this show. And I’ve been trying to be a part of it, but I was knocked up for three years. I couldn’t work because my pregnancies are horrible. I literally have been trying to work with these people since that Australia flight where I found out they were about to have this show come on the air. I’ve been a fan since then. – Read more at Parade

‘Idol’ Kelly Clarkson switches teams to ‘The Voice’ – “The Voice” premieres about two weeks before ABC’s reboot of “American Idol,” which has a sweetened Disney vibe and judges’ panel of Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Clarkson hopes people don’t think she’s being disloyal by signing with the competition. “I feel like people think I’m shunning ‘Idol,’ ” she says. “I’m so excited it’s back because it’s the show that launched me. I don’t wish them anything bad.” Now that she’s working for NBC, there is one thing on her wish list: to sing in one of the network’s live musicals, as her “Idol” peers Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson have done. And she has one picked out: “White Christmas.” She’d like the Rosemary Clooney role. “I met George Clooney and he said, ‘You remind me of my aunt.’ I didn’t say anything about him about how talented he was. We just talked about his aunt for a full 10 minutes.” – New York Post

Chris Daughtry Returns With a New Tour, New Album, and Thoughts on the New American Idol – “We finally wrapped on the new record the other day… and to clarify, we didn’t actually rap on the album; we wrapped with a w,” he laughs. “[This album has] been a while in the making. I kind of made a pact with myself and Instagram to keep the beard going until the album was done. So I got rid of the beard.” “I have nothing but fond memories of being on the show,” he says. “At that time, it was all so new and promising to me. With American Idol coming back, there were some rumors swirling around about me being a judge. And I was like, Well, they haven’t called me yet. I didn’t know anything about that.” – Read more at Miami New Times

Kane Brown and Lauren Alaina celebrate “What Ifs” – When Kane Brown needed a female voice for his song “What Ifs,” he called his childhood friend to do it: Lauren Alaina. Brown and Alaina both grew up near Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Alaina says she sometimes gets choked up thinking about how two kids from the same small town separately got record deals, ended up in Nashville on different paths and got a number-one country record together. Last week, they held a party to celebrate the song’s success and were surprised by their school choir director, Lamar Gillespie. – Read more at WRCB.TV
