Judge Dismisses Racial Bias Lawsuit Brought Against American Idol

That lawsuit brought against American Idol (including FOX, Fremantlemedia and producer, Nigel Lythgoe) by former African American contestants, has been dismissed by a federal judge. Reuters reports:

A federal judge on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit by 10 black former contestants on “American Idol,” who accused the television show, its producers and sponsors of racial discrimination.

U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald in Manhattan said all but four claims should be dismissed because they were brought too late.

She also said the plaintiff Chris Golightly, who brought the remaining four claims, did not offer enough evidence suggesting the defendants intended to discriminate against him because of his race.

That judge completely shut the case down. Considering how long this case wended it’s way thorugh court, and the machinations involved, in the end a dismissal came down to a statute of limitations, and a lack of evidence to back up Chris’ claims. We’ll see if the plaintiff’s lawyers move ahead in some fashion after this setback.
