“Pitch Perfect 2” had a perfect week. Top of the box office, top of the album sales chart and top of the BB200. The Soundtrack exceeded pundits expectations (which thought 60-65K for sales and 80K combined) for 91K in sales and 108K in combined. Mumford and Sons slips to second in their second week with a drop of 80% in sales. Rock band Incubus debuted in third, but rock fans don’t buy singles, so they dropped 4 slots to 7th on the combined. Josh fans don’t buy singles either and suffered the same fate falling from 4th to 8th. He had a deeper than usual drop of 64% in sales (usually, second to third week sales drops are in the 40% range), but his first to second week drop was smaller than usual (32% compared to 70% – likely boosted by Mother’s Day), so it is not unduly worrisome.
Now 54 features Tori Kelly, One Direction and Kelly Clarkson holds 5th in sales dropping to 10th on combined (it gets no benefit from TEAs/SEAs because the singles on it get credited to the artist’s album). The Zac Brown Band is 6th rising to 5th on combined in their 3rd week, David Guetta debuts at 7th in sales and 4th combined (DJs do sell singles). The Furious 7 rises 17 slots from sales to combined and Sam Smith rounds out the combined top 10. Taylor is out of the top 10 combined for the first time since her album was released – Bad Blood should remedy that.
No reality singing competitors on either chart (except on Now 54/53).
