Idol Sales News – Week Ending 03/16/14

“Frozen” is a machine. It exceeded expectations and sold 99K to be the number one album of the week. That is just a 1% drop from last week when it sold 100K for third. HDD is estimating that it will move 200-225K next week (the DVD is out this week). “Frozen” is the new Adele – no wonder Travolta mind-warped to Adele Dazeem. “Frozen” becomes the fourth soundtrack to spend more than 6 weeks at number one during the Soundscan Era. Disney’s “Lion King” was the latest to do that (10 weeks) while the champ is “West Side Story” at 54 weeks (can’t touch that). Meanwhile, Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go” sold 122K.

The top debut is Luke Bryan’s latest spring break release (74K) while Aloe Blacc has his highest debut at 4th (45K – last album failed to enter the BB200).
