This is always an exciting week for Idol watchers – the week after the finale. How well did the infamous coronation single do on the charts? This year, the songs are at a bit of a disadvantage since the finale was a day later in the week (for Season 1 through 5, the singles were released on a Tuesday as physical singles two or three weeks after the finale. Starting in Season 6, they were released to iTunes after the finale which was on a Wednesday. For the first time this year, Idol’s finale was on a Thursday). The other disadvantage is that the season kind of sucked in the ratings and judging department which has left a pall over the entire season. Since coronation singles start off partly as a celebration souvenir for the season, when there isn’t much to celebrate, the coronation songs don’t do as well. Most times, at least one of the singles gets to the top of the chart for at least a few hours. This time, no Idol song did. So….brace yourself.
On the album front, Fantasia and Kelly are predicted to remain in the Top 50.
This is the weekly sales thread, please post numbers as you find them. Thanks!
