Idol Sales News – Week Ending 04/01/12

This is Lionel’s biggest album in the SoundScan era (since 1991) and first number one on the BB200 since “Dancing on the Ceiling” in 1986. He outpaced predictions and was a mentor on The Voice. Lionel tops the the Country Albums chart and is only the fourth African-American to do so (the others were Charlie Pride (12 times), Ray Charles and Darius Rucker).

Downloads:
1. Justin Bieber “Boyfriend” 521K (second biggest debut song after FloRida’s “Right Round” with 636K). It may not top the Hot 100 though because fun.’s “We Are Young” sold 364K (becoming only the second song to sell over 300K for 5 weeks).
5 One Direction “What Makes You Beautiful” 199K (+22%) (lw 7),
7 Carly Rae Jepsen “Call Me Maybe” 182K (+32%) (lw 9)

Total Album Sales: 6.16M (+13% compared to last week (5.46M), (-7% compared to the same week last year(6.63M).
YTD Album Sales: 77.84M (+<1% compared to the same point last year (77.83M).

Digital Track Sales: 26.68M (+4% compared to last week (25.62M), (+9%compared to the same week last year (24.52M).
YTD Track Sales: 361.32M (+7% compared to the same point last year (339.12M)
