Idol Headlines for 9/1/08

‘Idol’ singers present a patriotic show

Why did the American Idols cross the river?

Because of the Republican National Convention.

After six consecutive years at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, the “American Idols Live” tour landed Sunday at Target Center in Minneapolis. It’s a nonpartisan but American-loving tour, featuring Kristy Lee Cook’s rendition of “God Bless the U.S.A.”

This year’s approach — a countdown from finalist 10 to the champ — meant limited ensemble numbers and a long wait for a lot of young kids in the crowd of 11, 000 to see David and David after 9:10 p.m.

Fantasia Barrino Had Tumor on Her Throat, Hurt by Negative Publicity

Gaining her prominence as the winner of the third season of the television series “American Idol” in 2004, Fantasia Barrino has been invading the world of performing, taking over the Broadway stage. Portraying the critically acclaimed Celie in the musical, “The Color Purple, ” it is sad to say that she was forced to take hiatus following doctor’s diagnosis that she had tumor on her throat.

About that she openly told Sister 2 Sister magazine, “I couldn’t get enough sleep and sometimes onstage, I could taste blood … every now and then. They (producers) would send me to the hospitals and they would say, ‘Well, she’s dehydrated; that’s what’s making her tired.’ They would put IVs in me. But it just wasn’t enough.” Realizing that there might be something wrong with her throat, she eventually checked into a top throat doctor in Los Angeles, who then told her that she had tumor on her throat.

Jordin Sparks And Jesse McCartney

It’s not the Hannah Montana tour, or even the Disney Music Block Party tour, but “Jesse and Jordin Live, ” featuring “American Idol” Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks and former Dream Street singer/”Summerland” star Jesse McCartney, is a moderately hot ticket for tween music fans.

On the young person’s spectrum of exciting events, the concert falls somewhere between texting with a crush and watching a “Degrassi” marathon.
