CMA Songwriting: Chats with Bob DiPiero, Carrie Underwood, Easton Corbin, Kix Brooks, Chris Young, Ronnie Milsap & Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman – Carrie Underwood: I love it when the writers of a song that I sing tell a story about the song that I didn’t know before. Some special moment that happened while they were writing the song, or something that gave them the idea, or what certain lines and phrases mean to them. When I sing a song that I didn’t write, I relate to it in my own way, but sometimes the writer will say something that makes me look at the song a different way. I like that. – Read more at Huffington

‘Canadian Idol’ Contestant Acquitted of Terrorism – A former Canadian Idol contestant was acquitted on Tuesday (Aug. 19) of conspiring to facilitate terrorism, with the judge finding insufficient evidence that he intended to join a plot. Khurram Syed Sher, an Ontario doctor whose 2010 arrest got international attention because of his appearance on the show, had pleaded not guilty to the charges. Prosecutors had accused Sher of agreeing with two other men to raise money, send cash abroad, take paramilitary training, make and use explosives, and scout targets in Canada. Superior Court Justice Charles Hackland said that while Sher probably harbored jihadist sympathies, he was not convinced the doctor genuinely intended to join a conspiracy. Sher appeared on the singing-contest show in 2008, singing a comical version of Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated.” – Read more at

  1. This is very cool! Queen and Adam attended Lady Gaga’s show in Perth. She stopped the show in the middle of Born This Way to gave them a shout out, and the crowd gave them a standing O. After the show, they were backstage.

@ladygaga Me and Brian May from QUEEN. They came tonight to the artRAVE and I’m so PROUD of Adam Lambert singing…

  2. From a radio music director at the Gaga concert:

@TheSongNerd: @katiemelb Yep during Dope, just her and a big fuck off piano, she saw Adam, shouted out, then saw the rest of Queen. Legit recognition

  3. A DC fan tweeted something like “not to beat a dead horse but…” and linked to an article re: DC & Caleb.

    David Cook actually responded with:

I think the horse is dead, buried, and decomposed. RIP horse.

I think he wants that discussion to end. ;)

  4. Here’s Adam’s ALS Ice Bucket Challenge from Chris Colfer, Charl Brown and Matthew Smith

    Thanks @chriscolfer @thecharlbrown @matthewstephensmith ! Nominating @DrBrianMay @OfficialRMT and @RuTTaylor1

  5. Michael W. Smith & Friends: The Spirit of Christmas album comes out on September 30, 2014! This album features Carrie Underwood.
Besides Carrie Underwood, Michael W. Smith has also worked with Angie Miller, Melinda Doolittle & Mandisa in the past!

  6. Wasn’t sure where to post this. NBC Nightly News talking about the “pay to play”…where NFL wants artists to pay the NFL for the privilege of performing in half time. They said list has been narrowed down to Rhianna, Katy Perry and Cold Play. No mention of Carrie Underwood.

  7. Jennifer Hudson certainly has had more than her share of tragic family situations.

  8. thought his ice bucket challenge was great too,..he was laughing all the way through, definitely showed a different side to him then the cool exterior he normally wears.

  9. Alex Preston @RealAlexPreston
Booking shows for the rest of 2014 now!

ETA: Looking beyond tour I see.

  10. If the NFL insists on that, I hope any artist they’re interested in tells them where to go.

  11. did he get dropped by Wind-Up? Because I don’t see the label paying for this and artists who are on labels generally can’t release their own side projects unless the label signs off on them.

  12. I don’t see any booking info on his twitter page, so I’m guessing he will be doing his own booking, at least for now?

  13. Geebus! They are right up front about this baksheesh – “Give us a taste!” like the kickbacks in a Godfather movie script.

SMH. The ad money for the commercials isn’t big enough? – now they want the A List entertainers to pay a tariff to appear, like they were some small town opening acts desperate for a break? Sounds vaguely illegal – and certainly unethical.

  14. No, he’s still with Wind-up. I actually wonder how serious he really is. Maybe he’s just fishing for songs to cover on tour?
Or maybe he just wanted to amuse himself and have something to read to pass the time because right he’s doing this….

  15. “I’m feeling like recording an acoustic record”
He’s also feeling like getting a tattoo too. lol.
    Who knows with him.

He also apparently dyed his hair (or part of it) blue yesterday too. (also per his instagram).

  16. Oh, maybe. I don’t follow James closely enough to know when he’s joking:)

The few acoustic albums or EPs I can remember ex-Idols releasing all seem to have a connection to their new album — for example, Kris had a 4-song EP that was a companion to TYC. But that isn’t what it seems like James would be planning. And I can’t remember if people could buy Kris’ EP separately, or only as a package with the full album.

Also, if he wants to go back to doing rock music, putting out an acoustic album seems like an odd choice for James.

It does sound like he says and does thing on a whim :)

  17. It’s the aspergers I think. He can even change focus in the middle of a conversation if something distracts him.
    (Personal experience).

It could be for an EP release maybe around the holidays? Who knows. If he mentions it again, then I tend to think he’s serious.

  18. Looks like that “pay to play” deal is real. The NFL is asking their potential halftime performers to kick in some money for the NFL via their post performance tour earnings … because they must not make enough! LOL!

If I were these artists, I’d tell the NFL to suck it.

  19. Cute factor – Phillip and one of his youngest fans:) @Phillips

  20. In the first few years of the Super Bowl, the halftime entertainment was marching bands and things like that…not A-list musicians. If the NFL continues to insist on this ridiculous “pay for play” idea, they might end up having to go back to using marching bands, because the big-name artists aren’t going to agree to this. Why would they?

  21. The reason Adam tweeted Lady Gaga, “I’m here,” is because when she introduced Queen, and they stood up, she didn’t see Adam. She said something like, “Adam where are you.” Adam started out sitting with Queen, but moved for a different perspective. He must have rejoined them because people tweeted that a lot of people gathered around Queen and Adam before the encore.

  22. Getting plenty of interest & suggestions on it. Could he just offer it low key to fans and/ or make it available at tours (IF that should ever ………)? I’m first for full band, live or recordings, but some songs he’s performed (his album pcs. & some covers) are very moving done just w/guitar.

  23. Who knows. But I agree, half the songs on Celebrate, the ones he covered on the last acoustic tour at least, sound better stripped down the way he wrote them, with just him on guitar.

  24. I actually watched it back then….wouldn’t mind if they dumped all the lip syncing celebrities.
