Lauren Alaina Says Brad Paisley Would Make a Great “American Idol” Judge – Brad Paisley’s name has surfaced as a potential judge for American Idol’s upcoming 12th season, and season 10 finalist Lauren Alaina thinks Brad would be a good fit for the show. She’s met him a few times and says, “I think that that would be really cool. He has a great personality. Every time I’ve talked with him, he’s super nice.” As one of the notable country artists to come from American Idol, Lauren thinks having Brad or another country star on the judges panel is the right move for the show. – Read more at AmericanCountryCountdown

Simon Cowell Drops $500k to Pamper ‘X Factor’ Finalists – You know you’re rich when … you spend $500,000 to upgrade 160 “X Factor” contestants to a “nicer” hotel simply because you felt like it — like Simon Cowell just did. It all went down in Miami … where the 160 wannabes who made it past the audition rounds are competing for 32 coveted spots. Sources tell us … Cowell — who created the show — decided he wanted to reward the contestants for making it this far … and didn’t want them slumming in a “regular” hotel. So he upgraded ALL of the contestants to the exclusive Mondrian Miami South Beach Hotel … and promised to cover everyone’s meals during the audition process. – Read more at TMZ

American Idol and the Danger of the Escalating Diva Arms Race – It started as a simple, almost innocent idea: assign a past-her-prime chanteuse to the judges’ desk of a singing competition show where she could offer the hard-won advice of one who’d made it while simultaneously boosting her own career. But with Monday’s announcement that Mariah Carey would be joining the panel of American Idol, the Diva Arms Race — which started with Paula, then escalated with J. Lo and Christina, and now has topped out with Mariah and Britney — has entered its next stage. Could television could potentially be headed toward its first full-fledged, live-superstar freak-out? – Read more at Vulture

American Idol’s Colton Dixon: ‘Something is coming up. I’ll just leave it at that’ – When I asked Colton about a potential record deal Thursday, he gave few details. “Something is coming up. I’ll just leave it at that,” he said via phone, adding that he expects to have an album out by the end of the year. I chatted with Colton for an advance story about the “Idol” tour, which stops in the Atlanta area Aug. 5. The Tennessee singer has the distinction of performing an original song on tour, just like last year’s ninth-place finisher Pia Toscano. My full story will run soon in print, but here are some highlights to tide you over in the meantime. – Read more at Ledger-Enquirer

Casey Abrams on the inspiraton behind ‘Great Bright Morning’ – Casey Abrams finished in sixth place on “American Idol” Season 10, but that didn’t stop the singer from releasing his self-titled debut album on June 26. Abrams opens up about the inspiration behind one of his new tracks, “Great Bright Morning,” in Zap2it’s exclusive video. “It’s about friendship; it’s about love; it’s about sharing a moment with someone that you really appreciate their companionship,” Abrams explains. “It doesn’t have to be a boyfriend or a girlfriend, it could be anyone.” – Zap2it

Steven Tyler: ‘American Idol’ was like my new drug – In an interview published in the latest issue of TIME magazine, Tyler explained that the risk of his joining “Idol” played a factor. “I’m one of those people that — obviously, since I’ve wound up in rehab eight times — take dangerous things and jump in with both feet,” he said. When asked if “Idol” was his substitute for heroin, he told the publication, “I think so. I think I’m addicted to adrenaline. It was a risky thing.” And it was a gamble that paid off. Sure, Tyler said “the band was pissed, looking for other singers” after he announced his new gig. “But then they found out that (Tyler judging “Idol”) brought the catalog up 270 percent.” – Read more at MSNBC

‘Glee Project’ exit Q&A: ‘I know some people think of it as a tirade’ – ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What were your immediate thoughts at hearing that this week’s theme was “Tenacity”? ABRAHAM LIM: Mainly I was excited. If you watch promo videos from before the show and our first week in the house, I say it’s one of the three qualities my friends and I would use to describe me. After Theatricality [last week] when I was in the bottom three, that fire of determination was burning a lot brighter this week. So I was really excited because I felt like Tenacity is something I embody. – Read more at Entertainment Weekly
