Sony Music Fails to Eliminate ‘American Idol’ Revenue Lawsuit – The latest ruling in an American Idol-affiliated record company’s clash with Sony is a lot like an episode of the singing competition show. Some claims were eliminated. Some weren’t. The dispute started when 19 Recordings, the company founded by Idol creator Simon Fuller, sued in February 2014 alleging Sony withheld over $7 million earned by former Idol contestants currently signed to 19 including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks. – Read more at Hollywood Reporter

Emmys allow Glee, Shameless, and Jane The Virgin to compete as comedies – A newly instated Emmys rule defined comedies as half an hour or under, but now the Television Academy has announced that three hour-long shows can compete as comedies. A nine-member panel responsible for making these eligibility calls has allowed Glee, Shameless, and Jane the Virgin to compete as comedies. This will be the first year that Jane is up for awards, however Glee and Shameless have both competed as comedies before. Shameless only recently made the switch from the drama to comedy categories. – Read more at Entertainment Weekly

‘American Idol’ contestant Tyanna Jones encouraged by praise from music, entertainment critics – “Leave it to the 16-year-old from Jacksonville, Fla., to deliver a poised, fearless performance,” Glenn Gamboa wrote in his recap of last Thursday’s episode for Newsday. “Wow, that’s cool,” said Jones in a telephone interview Tuesday, just before heading to a rehearsal for this week’s episode. Jones, a junior at Westside High School, said she’s seen some of the positive comments online from music and entertainment writers, but the one in Newsday was new to her. “Comments like that encourage me to do better, to give the best performance,” she said. “I just want to keep improving.” She doesn’t claim to be fearless, however. “I’m the most nervous right before I go on stage,” she said. “I’m praying everything will go all right.” – Read more at Jacksonville.com

‘American Idol’s’ Joey Cook adjusting to the limelight – It is too soon to declare Joey Cook a star, just because she’s made it to the final 11 on the current season of “American Idol.” Less than a year ago she was waiting tables in Newport News and York County, and it has taken her a while to get used to the pace and the commitments that come with her sudden prime-time status. “I’m very new to all this, especially the picture thing and all the photo shoots,” Cook said in a phone interview earlier this week. “Now I’m forced to do this. I have no choice. I’m working on finding my ‘Sasha Fierce’ alter ego to make myself more comfortable with all of this. During the photo shoots, I’m queen of the world – but when they’re done I go back to offering to get coffee for everyone.” – Read more at Daily Press.com

Chris Daughtry I Forgive You, Congressman … Everyone Needs a Little Katy Perry! – Rep. Aaron Schock would never have resigned from Congress if rocker Chris Daughtry had anything to say about it … because who doesn’t love a good Katy Perry concert? Daughtry was leaving Duff’s Cakemix in L.A. when we asked him about the young Republican’s spending issues. Schock surrendered his seat Tuesday after certain expenditures were questioned, including taking interns to a Perry concert. Daughtry clearly thinks hitting up a Perry show every now and again is nothing to lose your job over. Unfortunately for Schock, Daughtry isn’t in his district. – Read more at TMZ

‘There are many sides to this story’: Sacked X Factor judge defends herself in Los Angeles… after being forced to flee New Zealand following bullying controversy – Disgraced New Zealand X Factor judges Willy Moon and Natalia Kills have fled the country after they were sacked from the show for cruelly bullying a contestant on stage. The married couple escaped to Los Angeles after being booted from the show, but defended themselves as the controversy continued to swirl. ‘I feel like everyone needs to put the idea of it being a manufactured conspiracy theory behind them, there’s really nothing to it,’ Kills said on a video posted to MTV.com. – Read more at DailyMail.co.uk

Carrie Ann Inaba’s DWTS Blog: Rumer Willis Rocks Premiere – Season 20 of Dancing with the Stars kicked off with a bang! Last night was an incredibly exhilarating show. This year’s cast is energetic with lots of diversity, but they all seemed genuinely happy to be there. And every one of them was a really entertaining performer. They have charisma and charm and I’m very much looking forward to seeing how they develop as the weeks go on. The attitude of positivity prevailed on the dance floor and that’s exactly the kind of energy that is intoxicating for the audience. – Read more at Parade

‘Glee’s First ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ Almost Looked Completely Different! – “The very first dance number of ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ looks like the most simple [costumes], but that was an absolute example where we had another whole [plan] in mind,” Lou Eyrich, Glee’s head costume designer for the first three seasons, revealed to ETonline. “The night before we were going to shoot it, Ryan [Murphy] called me and he said, ‘I think we need to tear it down and make it really simple and show that they’re coming from nothing, so that we have an arc.'” – Read more at Entertainment Tonight
