American Idol Judges: Little Ladybug A Disappointment – I was wrong about the new lineup of judges for American Idol Season 12. Or maybe I was right. Actually I was right and then I was wrong. I first suggested in this column that the big shakeup from last year, with two of the three judges leaving and being replaced, plus the addition of a fourth, and wrote that this could spell trouble and be the show’s weak link. That has turned out to be true. –

The Next American Idol Will Not Be A White Guy With A Guitar – For half a decade, American Idol has been dominated by one group. In five consecutive competitions, the winner fit a certain mold: the White Guy With a Guitar (WGWG). But Thursday night, with the revelation of Season 12’s top 10 finalists, that dynasty came to a sudden end. This year’s group contains not a single WGWG.
For the first six years of the show, the Idol crown bounced around between a reasonably diverse mix of demographic backgrounds and musical styles, with champions Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, and Jordin Sparks. ‘Nashville’ at PaleyFest: Concert Tour in the Works – ABC’s Nashville is poised to following in the footsteps of Fox’s Glee and hit the road with a concert tour. Mere days after The Hollywood Reporter reported that Nashville studio Lionsgate Television chief Kevin Beggs noted he hoped the show would tour, co-star Charles Esten (Deacon) noted during the show’s Saturday PaleyFest event in Beverly Hills that the planning was in the “vague stages.” – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter
