‘The Voice’ singing contest to hold auditions in Miami

“The Voice, ” which sounds like NBC’s answer to “American Idol, ” will hold auditions early next year in eight cities, including Miami.

Why is this reality show worthy of note? Mark Burnett and John de Mol, two kings of the reality genre, are behind it. The show, a hit in Holland, will debut in the spring. And by that time, we should know if the revamped “American Idol” still fascinates America.

The Miami auditions for “The Voice” will be Friday, Jan. 21, at S.I.R. Studios, 12200 NE 14th Ave., in North Miami.

Contestants must be older than 18, legal U.S. residents and willing to share their stories.

The other audition cities and dates are Chicago on Jan. 14, New York on Jan. 15, Nashville on Jan. 22, Minneapolis on Jan. 28, Austin on Jan. 29, Los Angeles on Feb. 4 and Seattle on Feb. 11.
