Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Rihanna each take home two trophies

LOS ANGELES – Kanye West had nothing to complain about Sunday, as he picked up his first-ever American Music Awards and delivered a flawless, if subdued, performance of his new single, …Heartless.

West was a double winner, collecting trophies for favorite male rap/hip-hop artist and favorite rap/hip-hop album for his CD, …Graduation.

But the evening big winner was 19-year-old Chris Brown, who won three awards, including artist of the year honors.

…I wouldve gave it to Coldplay, Brown said of the night big prize. …Im at a loss for words.

LOS ANGELES ‘  Jordin Sparks has made no secret of the fact that she’s a virgin and plans to stay that way until her wedding night, a personal pledge that was reinforced backstage at Sunday’s American Music Awards after the songstress was presented with an un-televised award as Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist. The 18-year-old was truly flattered when we gave her credit for her chastity pledge and for setting herself apart from so many other trouble-makers in Tinseltown, saying a humble thank you multiple times.

“The role model tag has definitely been thrust on me and that’s something I don’t take lightly, ” Sparks said.

Pitting debut CDs of 2 ‘Idol’ Davids

In May, the big question wasn’t Obama or McCain; nope, the men whose merits we were mulling over were named Davids Archuleta and Cook.

Cook went on to win American Idol by a landslide, but the Archuleta contingent was strong enough to push the teen’s self-titled debut album to a No. 2 bow on the Billboard charts (darn you, Taylor Swift!).

Cook’s eponymous debut followed a week later, so it seems like a good time to see how the two stack up.


Eric West Teams With American Idol David Hernandez On Debut Album

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 24, 2008 — Actor and singer Eric West who earned honors as one of US Weekly’s “One’s To Watch” and’s “Top Fresh Faces” is also adding songwriter and producer to his list of jobs as he works with American Idol alumni David Hernandez on his upcoming debut album.

David Hernandez’s untitled album is scheduled to arrive next year. Eric West is also finishing work on his long-awaited debut album, which brings together an A-list of guest producers, which will also arrive in 2009. His previous credits including working with Mario, Cher, Jeannie Ortega and Daniel De Bourg.

”I’m excited about his project, the best part is always writing from a different point of view, ” says Eric.

West will be on hand on December 8th, 2008 for The 2008 Ladies Lotto 3rd Annual Benefit: A Fundraiser for Charity Water in New York City.

Hernandez heads on out an 18 city US tour as part of the “Idols In Concert Tour” with past Idol stars Diana Degarmo, Kimberley Locke and Chikezie Eze.

‘Idol’-ize your holiday

Locke doesn’t care what carols her fellow “American Idol” alums croon on their holiday tour, which launches Saturday in Pittsburgh, as long as she gets to sing about that jolly, happy soul with a corncob pipe and a button nose and two eyes made out of coal.

“‘Frosty the Snowman’ is my favorite all-time Christmas song, ever since I was a little girl, ” the 30-year-old Locke said. “I remember sitting there watching that cartoon, so fascinated by him and that song. It just stuck in my head.”

Ford Sticks With ‘American Idol’ Sponsorship

While the economic uncertainly surrounding American car makers has called into question some of the nation’s biggest marketing budgets, struggling Ford Motor Co. will be sticking with its American Idol sponsorship for the 2009 season.

“Yes, the partnership between Ford and Idol continues in 2009, ” confirmed a Ford spokesperson.

Spokespersons for Fox as well as Idol producer Fremantle also confirmed that the relationship remains intact.

That is welcome news to everyone involved with the show, as Ford last year spent nearly $78 million on its American Idol sponsorship (including commercials), and has spent some $328.5 million over the seven seasons of Idol, according to data from TNS Media Intelligence.

‘Dancing With the Stars’ finalists step into last round

ABC hit Dancing With the Stars wraps up its seventh season beginning Monday night (recap show at 8 ET/PT, finals at 8:30) with Brooke Burke, Lance Bass and Warren Sapp and their professional partners vying to be the ballroom dance champs. The winning couple will be crowned Tuesday (9 ET/PT).

After a series of injuries and mishaps that have perplexed both the celebs and their professional partners, the finale may be almost anticlimactic.
