Writers Guild Issues Warning About Osbourne Show

The Writers Guild of America has instructed its members not to work on a new television variety show featuring Ozzy Osbourne and his family that is being prepared by the producers of …American Idol for the Fox television network.

The presidents of the east and west branches of the Writers Guild told its members in a letter that Fremantle Media North America, which is producing the Osbourne show, had asked the Guild to accept a contract that would treat the program as …half-scripted. Such a contract would pay reduced fees to Guild-represented writers of skits, interview material and scene outlines, said the letter, written by Patric M. Verrone, president of the Writers Guild of American West and Michael Winship, president of the Writers Guild East.

Archuleta Talks Clay, Crushes and Cook

‘American Idol’ runner-up David Archuleta has been an awfully busy guy. Fresh off the ‘Idol’ tour, the 17-year-old singer has released his first single and video (‘Crush’), filmed a guest spot on the television show ‘iCarly’ and got the golden ticket of an invite to Miley Cyrus’ recent Disneyland Sweet 16. As if that weren’t enough, Archuleta is putting the final touches on his debut album. Several Broadway actors will take part in an upcoming reading of the new musical How the Nurse Feels Oct. 20 at New World Stages.

The by-invitation-only reading is scheduled to feature the talents of Marissa Parry, Kevin Earley, Ace Young, Lindsay Mendez, Kate Loprest, Kyle Dean Massey and Kirsten Wyatt. Michael G. Walling directs.

Olivia Newton-John Gets Nostalgic for ‘Grease’!

Grease is the word! One of America’s favorite musicals is back on Broadway in a brand new production, and the cast just got a visit from iconic star Olivia Newton-John. The four-time Grammy Award winner and the Grease troupe have teamed up to spread the word about breast cancer awareness.

After Tuesday night’s show, Newton-John joined the cast on stage and presented each female audience member with a Liv Aid breast self-exam kit. Cast mates Ashley Spencer (Sandy), Derek Keeling (Danny) and “American Idol” heartthrob Ace Young (Kenickie) helped with the momentous evening.

Taylor Hicks Teams With Indie Label For Next Album

Everyone favorite Teen Angel, Taylor Hicks, has found himself a new label to call home. His next album will be released through the independent artist services company Artist to Market, according to a press release. The as-yet-untitled album, which the singer is working on with producer Simon Climie, is slated to be released February 10.

…In this digital age, when artists can connect more directly with audiences, this is a partnership that makes a lot of sense, Hicks said in the release.

‘Idol’ try was not idle time

Twinsburg — When Twinsburg resident Forbes Talley auditioned for American Idol in Louisville, Ky., back in July, he wasn’t sure if he would make the first cut.

Talley, 17, was competing against 14, 000 other contestants from across the Midwest. But when the contestant pool was narrowed to 400, Talley made the cut. He was still standing after the field was pared down to 200 contestants.

It wasn’t until there were 18 contestants left in the Louisville competition that Talley was cut.

“I had gone with the hopes of making it to the celebrity round, ” Talley said. “In July, after standing in line for four or five hours, I performed and was asked to come back in September.”

Kim Kardashian: I’m Not Returning to DWTS

Kim Kardashian will not be returning to Dancing with the Stars.

Despite Internet rumors that she’d come back after Misty May-Treanor dropped out due to an Achillies tendon injury, Kardashian tells Entertainment Tonight, “I’m not going back.

Despite coming in last place on Tuesday’s Dancing With the Stars, Rocco DiSpirito wasn’t dismissed because injured contestant Misty May-Treanor dropped out.

“We’re grateful to have another chance!” he told after the show. “We’re bummed that Misty’s gone, bummed that Misty got hurt… We’re really going to have to do a lot of work to honor Misty through our dancing in this competition!
