Benardo to ‘Idol’ — I Survived Two Suicide Bombings

Ian Benardo ain’t backing down from his $100 million lawsuit against “American Idol”– in fact, he’s so serious … dude is comparing the “Idol” legal ambush to terrorist attacks he survived as an Israeli soldier.

“Idol” lawyers want Benardo’s lawsuit tossed out of court — but the former contestant ain’t taking the “Idol” counter-attack sitting down.

Dude just fired off a letter to the judge in the case claiming, “As a soldier who served in the Israeli Army and survived two suicide bombings, I hold equality close to my heart and won’t back down due to intimidation.”

‘From one Fish to another’

He was only 15, he loved hockey and his favourite player was Mike Fisher — because his name was Mike Fisher, too.

“When Mike married Carrie Underwood, he used to go around telling everybody, ‘Yeah, I’m married to Carrie Underwood, ‘” his stepfather Daniel Nees said from the family’s home in New Jersey.

On Sept. 24, Fisher was at a roller hockey practice in his hometown of Dennisville, New Jersey, when he collapsed without warning and died. His heartbroken family thought an autographed photo from his idol of the same name would be a fitting final gift to display at his funeral.

The player said Wednesday he had been touched to hear of his namesake. “It was a sad, sad story, ” he said, adding, “There aren’t too many Mike Fishers playing hockey out there.”

Last Night: Carrie Underwood At Toyota Center

Carrie Underwood is perfect for Vegas. That’s not a knock – mostly.

Underwood is wholesome, engaging and dynamic. She’s no Tina Turner, but she can strut onstage. Her voice is excellent – good range and control, on key and expressive. Maybe she oversells ballads like “I Know You Won’t, ” but hey, Streisand does the same thing. And before a singer can oversell a song, they have to sell it first.

No problem there. But Underwood has a real edge to her, a fiery rock singer a la Chrissie Hynde or Joan Jett itching to tear up her All-American Girl image, or at least smudge it up a little. Wednesday night at Toyota Center, Aftermath saw just enough of that side of Underwood to make us want to see more.

Accomplished cast of ‘9 to 5’ works hard for the money

At first, the actors seem to be playing to our expectations, reviving memories of the actresses in the film: Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton (who wrote songs for the stage show and narrates via projected image) and Jane Fonda.

But individualities emerge as we get to know them. Hoty has a harder edge, like Eve Arden on steroids; Parris has an appealingly brassy quality when she comes into her own; DeGarmo, who sounds like Parton if you close your eyes on “Backwoods Barbie, ” is less of a caricature and more of a character. Even Mahowald, who looks like Rock Hudson playing a porn star, is more macho than Dabney Coleman was on-screen.
