Carrie Underwood on her upcoming film Soul Surfer:

“I really liked how everything turned out, including myself, ” Underwood said in an interview Tuesday. “I was really expecting the worst from myself, and I really surprised myself.”

The Grammy-winning country superstar plays a youth counselor in the film, which is based on the story of Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm in a shark attack.

“There are people that are absolutely amazing actors and actresses, and I am not one of those, though who’s to say one day; you never know, maybe I will be, ” she said. “But I’m definitely new at this and just doing what’s fun right now, and I love my music; that’s my first love.”

Sir Elton John ‘turns down’ US X Factor judge job

The Rocket Man turned it down because he couldn’t face the thought of seeing tuneless crazies trying to sing.

‘He was approached but it just didn’t suit his lifestyle, ‘ said the source.

‘Could you imagine Elton jetting off and sitting through some of the oddballs in a place like Illinois or somewhere?’

Casey James on the cover of Southwest Blues magazine

Twenty-seven guitars. But who’s counting? Casey James, an extraordinary lead guitarist and vocalist had to stop and count them to be sure of the number. Why so many? “Because they all sound different, way different, ” exp lains James. According to Billy Gibbons guitarist for ZZ-Top, “Each guitar has its own character and personality, which can be magnified once the player engages in beatin’ it up.” James’ fans have started a Twitter site called “Casey’s Guitars.” The guitar tweets belong to the six guitars selected

Glee’s Matthew Morrison set to release album February 2011

Matthew Morrison told Billboard Magazine at the Glee premiere party last night that he hopes to release the album he’s been working on in February 2011.

“I’m about three-quarters of the way done with the album, ” he says. “During our hiatus was the big chunk of putting it together — it’s full-time ‘Glee’ right now. I’m trying to do it on the weekends.” He doesn’t feel like one job is tearing him away from another, however, since “‘Glee’ is promotion of the album.”

Matthew told MTV that he worked on a track with Backstreet Boy JC Chasez. “I wrote about half the album so far, but I’ve definitely co-wrote. I’ve definitely teamed up with some great producers, some great songwriters, ” he teased MTV News at the “Glee” season two premiere party on Tuesday night in Los Angeles. “And yeah, I just did this great song last week with JC Chasez that was very, very cool. It turned out really well. He’s such a good songwriter.”

Who is the Greatest Diva of the Last 25 Years? We Offer Scientific Proof!

The decline of “Divas Live” is, in many ways, the mark of a network that never quite knows when its shows have run their course, but it is also indicative of a change in the landscape of popular music. While the word diva has found its way into common usage, the actuality of the diva—a puffed-up, preternaturally gifted and hopelessly drama-filled songbird—has been sold off in favor of an endless line of talentless smut merchants (Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Justin Bieber) and boring moaners (everyone else). Consider this potential Divas 2010 lineup: Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood and the Autotune 5000. Sure, that might be an interesting show, but when those six girls convened on center stage to sing an old Aretha song, what could it sound like? Would you hold your breath the way you did when you saw Whitney stumble up on stage next to Mary J Blige and her fucked-up hairdo? Could RoboDivas 2010 pound out a ten-minute anything?

I hope that happens, both for Adam and his many LA fans who have been waiting for a concert. It would be very fitting for Adam to end the GNT in LA.

  4. Apparently, Susan Boyle was supposed to tape a performance of America’s Got Talent tonight, but she cancelled. The fans who were there for the taping were told that Susan was ill, but this fansite has posted a different “official” story for the cancellation:

We have just received official word regarding Susan’s AGT cancellation ….

“Lou Reed blocked this last night as we were flying into LA ….
We had rehearsed his song Perfect Day for the show but for some unknown reason and despite his publisher and managers request to the contrary he decided to block Susan performing the track . AGT are legally required to have clearance before recording … We had no choice !”

    http://forum.susan-boyle.com/threads/8851-AGT-Inside-Information

  5. Okay, so it’s not Rolling Stone, but Casey on the cover of any magazine is a good start!

  6. I think that Casey may end up being the most commercially successful person from S9.

  7. Was the Susan Boyle song a new song or a cover?

A cover. Of a song she has no business covering.

  8. Yeah, fuzzy – Casey’s got the looks, easy charm, and sufficient talent to make it. Hope so. Downloaded his AI and Studio songs – great. Only one liked from S9.

  9. A cover. Of a song she has no business covering.

Well that’s what they get mj. Let her put out some original material so we can truely judge her talent.

  10. I think that Casey may end up being the most commercially successful person from S9.

You may be right, he’s certainly got more star power than Lee and Crystal. We’ll see if his songs are any good.

  11. I’m not sure that I believe that “official” story. It’s hard to believe that Susan’s “people” had not obtained permission for her to perform that song. Then again, if Simon got permission from Bono by telephone for Adam to sing “One” on AI, then maybe the issue is that permission wasn’t obtained from Lou Reed, himself. Or, maybe Susan really is ill?

  12. Either this Susan Boyle fiasco is totally hilarious or a great big publicity stunt for ratings. I lean toward hilarious. :-)

ETA: Maybe Simon will work his magic and get the song cleared at the last minute.

  13. I think that Casey may end up being the most commercially successful person from S9.

I can’t really disagree with this statement.

  14. That’s odd about Lou Reed not giving permission for Subo to sing Perfect Day as he’s let others cover it in the past

I’m just as pleased as I love the song and wouldn’t particularly want Subo to give it the saccharine treatment

One of my favouirte covers of it was when it was used as a promotional record for the BBC here in the UK and released for charity … although Lou Reed himself sang parts of it along with Bowie, Elton John, Tom Jones, Bono, Huey Morgan and many others

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2JXy1Z9ovs&feature=related

  15. I’m not sure that I believe that “official” story. It’s hard to believe that Susan’s “people” had not obtained permission for her to perform that song.

Something sounds funny here. I can’t imagine they would have flown SuBo to LA to sing a song without obtaining all the necessary permissions first. Either somebody screwed up big time or maybe the problem is with her. She’s not wrapped very tightly to start with IMHO.

  16. Well interesting stuff with this SuBo saga. She’s just really not cut out to do this, if that story is true. But it possibly not being true, and all some ruse! I wouldn’t put it past TPTB.

  17. So, Susan Boyle couldn’t pick another song to do? Doesn’t make sense. It does seem unprofessional if this happened. I’m sure anyone else would have just did a different song.

  18. A cover. Of a song she has no business covering.

LOL! She obviously has bought into her own press that she can cover anyone’s song. I don’t blame Lou Reed for not allowing her to butcher his song.

  19. I have to say I envy the GNT going to Paris and Milan. It still amazes me that a Idol on his first tour is actually taking it internationally.

Well that’s what they get mj. Let her put out some original material so we can truely judge her talent.

I am completely mystified by her popularity. I think it’s even possible that she was rehearsing the song and she just couldn’t sing it properly and fell to pieces. Whatever, IMO she is just not cut out for show business with her fragility.

  21. jrain: We’ll see if his songs are any good.

    +1

Casey’s got lots of potential but also high expectations to meet artistically.

It’s good to see Crystal gigging with Melissa Etheridge!

Associated Press interview with Carrie covering her upcoming movie debut Soul Surfer, her tour, and the CMAs. Carrie’s comment about not being nominated for EOTY shows what a class act she is.

  22. Adam’s tour dates in the UK coincide with the UK X Factor live shows and I really have everything crossed that he gets a guest slot on one of the results shows

  23. You may be right, he’s certainly got more star power than Lee and Crystal. We’ll see if his songs are any good.

How do you measure “star power”? (especially for someone who is neither a star or has power as of yet)

If Casey´s songs are not good and Crystal and Lee´s songs are good and sell better, does that mean that Crystal and Lee are more successful but Casey has more star power? This confuses me, please explain

If I wrote this I surely wouldn’t want Ms. Boyle to give it her treatment..what a way to have a song ruined for millions.

You don’t want to hear that song sung like I dreamed a dream? Why not? hehehe

Seriously Subo needs to have a care taker she is definatly DD. I think she can still go around the world singing her covers if people want to see her but she needs to have a caregiver to buffer her from the music biz. Because her manager isn’t doing what is in her best interest.

  25. I’m glad sir Elton John turned down the X factor judging gig, a living music legend doesn’t need to be judging singing hacks. Could you imagine him judging the likes of Jedward? ACK!

I don’t get the appeal of Susan Boyle but whatever, I guess.

I like Casey, I hope good things come his way. Same for Crystal.

  26. Adam’s tour dates in the UK coincide with the UK X Factor live shows and I really have everything crossed that he gets a guest slot on one of the results shows

Adam said in one of his interviews that he might be on the X Factor when he did his European tour. I can’t remember which one but he did, I swear. He emphasized “might”.

  27. Adam said in one of his interviews that he might be on the X Factor when he did his European tour. I can’t remember which one but he did, I swear. He emphasized “might”.

yes I remember hearing that interview too . think he said that there was nothing set in stone but he would love to do it if asked . I hope he does as it would be a great boost to get his name more widely known here in the UK

Hopefully Katy Perry put in a good word for him when she was a guest judge .. perhaps they can both perform on the same show … lol

  28. I have to say I envy the GNT going to Paris and Milan. It still amazes me that a Idol on his first tour is actually taking it internationally.

IKR? I am sure they are very small venues but it is still mind boggling. They must have done research regarding possible drawing power for Adam at these places right? I had no idea people even knew of him in France, lol. I know he has had some press in Italy though.

  29. On AGT tonight, they are having the American Idiot cast and Sarah McGlaughan as guests, and in fact I was watching last night. Susan Boyle wasn’t announced as a guest I don’t think. Maybe she was pretaping for next week.

  30. Kris is just taking it easy which is a good thing.

I was surprised about France too, but WWFM was #60 on their itunes chart top 100 songs yesterday. It’s the first time one of his songs was on their chart.

  32. I should also add, I agree with Jane Lynch: it’d be awesome if Simon Cowell was a judge at Nationals on Glee! I doubt he’d do it though..

  33. You don’t want to hear that song sung like I dreamed a dream? Why not? hehehe

You may be right, he’s certainly got more star power than Lee and Crystal. We’ll see if his songs are any good.

I don’t know – I think Casey has to up his game 1000% or he will go the way of Allison. He has to do more than good Karaoke or he won’t last either. So, yes it will be up to the quality of his new, original music. As for star power, we shall see. They are all in different genres so I don’t feel they need to be compared to each other. It’s going to be a huge uphill climb for all of them. I wish them well. :)

LMAO. I think Wild Horses called up Perfect Day and said, “Dude, it’s too late for me, but save yourself. Seriously. Get out. NOW.”

    Freaking brilliant :)

  36. Great write up on Casey. Thanks for posting it here. I’m really looking forward to his career. Amazing guy, amazing talent.

  37. for anyone interested in David Cook who hasn’t seen his latest tweet, it’s intriguing:

It’s just like Adam vs the rest, some people have IT factor. Lee is kind of a quiet artist and Crystal is kind of niche, neither of them scream out STAR. Doesn’t mean they won’t be successful because at the end of the day it is about the material.

  39. But, however “star” powered they all are, if they don’t connect and get a decent fan base, then that “star” or “It” power is useless. That is what I have learned here – that the idols have to have a large fan base to have decent success. At least we know Lee has a large fan base, large enough to win – will they buy his music when it comes out? We’ll see. :)

  40. jrain

Really? Well I guess if being more and more of a crackpot helped Britney, maybe SuBo should just shave her head next.

  44. Adam could have been an even bigger star by now if it weren’t for his debacle at the AMA’s last year.

As it is, that pretty much assured that there will be some people now who will NEVER accept him.

Really Adam, was it worth it?

  45. for anyone interested in David Cook who hasn’t seen his latest tweet, it’s intriguing:
“In the studio, watching a childrens’ choir cut some vocals on some stuff for the record. So rad. “

That is intriguing. Me likey. First we had Skib playing guitar with scissors, then Tiemann playing an electric sitar and now a choir? Nice to hear some outside the box thinking.

  46. Adam could be an even bigger star by now if it wasn’t for his debacle at the AMA’s last year.

As it is, that pretty much assured that there will be some people now who will NEVER accept him.

Really Adam, was it worth it?

Funny enough just this weekend my friend’s dad was talking about Adam and the AMAs. He knew we had gone to see Adam in concert so he was teasing us a little. He said he liked Adam’s performances on Idol but that the awards performance was just “too much” for him. Of course, he’s a 50 year old Harley motorcycle riding guy so he’s not really Adam’s demographic. But my friend’s mom really loves him and was even jealous we went to a concert.

  47. David Cook tweeting about a children’s choir is intriguing. That conjures up thoughts of an anthem, maybe, of anthemic proportions or dare I say a gospel song? Any other ideas?

  48. Adam could be an even bigger star by now if it wasn’t for his debacle at the AMA’s last year.

As it is, that pretty much assured that there will be some people now who will NEVER accept him.

Really Adam, was it worth it?

Actually, it seems to have been worth it, because it made news around the world and the world seems to have taken notice. Hence the current almost worldwide Glam Nation Tour. There are a few Adam fans on this blog that actually took notice after those AMAs who had never heard of him before. One of whom we are incredibly indebted to for hosting many of our Glam Nation concert threads.

  49. There are a few Adam fans on this blog that actually took notice after those AMAs who had never heard of him before. One of whom we are incredibly indebted to for hosting many of our Glam Nation concert threads.

I thought I heard someone talking about me LOL

  50. 1. Carrie Underwood’s role in ‘Surfer’ movie…yay! I enjoyed her on HIMYM.
    2. Must have video of Crystal and Melissa Etheridge! YESSS, Star Power! :]
    3. Simon on Glee, noooooooo! Aren’t he & FOX, kinda donezo? He has no obligation to them anymore. US X-Factor won’t be on their network. Perhaps his ties with Sony and Sony licenses Glee music…
    4. Wow, Piers Morgan must have amnesia. AGT has had just as many lineup changes but they didn’t make dramatic headlines- probably cuz no one under 80 cared. They get star power that suits them at the time, they don’t care much for integrity or chemistry of the panel either! Paging Regis (original host), Jerry Springer, Brandy, Nick Cannon, and The Hoff.
    5. Kudos to Cheryl Burke! Who is her partner this year??

  51. Adam could be an even bigger star by now if it wasn’t for his debacle at the AMA’s last year.

As it is, that pretty much assured that there will be some people now who will NEVER accept him.

Really Adam, was it worth it?

Really, as painful as it was watching it all go down, I think it was worth it. Adam got a lot of positive press from the double standard issue and it managed to overshadow the unusually sub standard performance. It also got him a ton of International attention which he managed to keep because it got people to check out his music. I somehow don’t think he would even be touring overseas the way he is now without that performance. It put him on the world wide map more than even a really good performance would have.

  52. Powter48: Adam could have been an even bigger star by now if it weren’t for his debacle at the AMA’s last year.

Actually, I believe even more people know about him BECAUSE of the AMA controversy. And a lot of them decided to check out his music and liked what they heard.

As it is, that pretty much assured that there will be some people now who will NEVER accept him.

You mean the same folks who were scandalized by his “Ring Of Fire” performance were scandalized even more by the AMA performance? :P

Really Adam, was it worth it?

If I can speak for Adam, in a word… YES!!!
