‘American Idol’ Scrambling To Find Substitute For Ailing Host Ryan Seacrest – I hear they tried to get Cat Deeley, host of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, to sub for him, with Lythgoe also on standby. – Deadline

‘Idol’ bits: another talk with Phillip Phillips; my Power 6; Justin Guarini’s play performance – Phillips said his kidney stones (and stent) are causing regular discomfort, with some days better than others. He acknowledged he tries to get as much rest as possible and bowed out of the Ford commercial last week. (”This boy here likes to sleep,” he said.) How was yesterday, when I spoke to him? “Today is alright.” His take on singing Queen: “I do like Queen. Singing wise, it’s kind of strange. It’s a kind of strange week. Hopefully, I picked the right songs.” The free choice song, he promises, “is going to be different.” – Read more at the Atlanta Journal Constitution

American Idol Backstage Scoop: Is Someone Really Sick or Just Crying Wolf? – We were lucky enough to be seated right next to Brian during the show, who seemed impressed by the first round of the singers covering Queen songs, but it was obvious he favored Elise Testone. Her cover of “I Want It All” was the only one that had him tapping his toes, smiling and swaying back and forth. Wow! Talk about a compliment! Phillip confirmed the videos were more for show and really hold no honest meaning behind them. “They put us in a room and said, ‘Talk bad about one another,'” he spilled. “It’s nothing serious. We’re all close. We have no hard feelings for one another. I have been sick. I’m not acting sick. It’s been a past rough few weeks so I’m pushing through it.” – Read more at EOnline

‘American Idol’ Celebrates Queen, A Sick Ryan Seacrest Rallies: What You Didn’t See on TV – 1. Ryan Seacrest’s first order of business upon hitting the Idol stage: a bottle of water, delivered promptly by stylist Miles Siggins. For the first half of the show, Ryan did look a little peaked and moved a little slower, with stage manager Debbie taking him by the hand from mark to mark. Lots of hugs, even an ice pack made its way over to the host during the show’s early minutes. But as Queen (and Skylar Laine) declared in song: the show must go on. And so it did. 17. Katy Perry pretaped her Thursday night performance of “Part of Me” with full military regalia. Perhaps taking her battalion shtick a bit too far, the 500-plus audience members let out a collective gasp when one of her dancers, who was rappelling from up above, hit her head on the descent. Ouch. – Read more at the Hollywood Reporter

American Idol’s Top 6 Make Queen the King of the Night

Prosecutors show photos of Hudson’s slain nephew – CHICAGO (AP) — The otherwise blank-faced defendant accused of killing Jennifer Hudson’s family appeared to cry at his trial Wednesday when prosecutors projected photographs onto a large screen of the bloodied body of the youngest victim — Oscar winner’s 7-year-old nephew. Wearing mostly black and with her long hair down over her shoulders, Hudson spent much of the morning outside the courtroom as prosecutors showed the photographs of Julian. Her sister, Julia Hudson, who is Julian’s mother, also stayed out of the room. The sisters walked into court after prosecutors were done showing the photos. – Read more at the Associated Press

Carrie Underwood, Hockey Playoffs: Singer Talks NHL Dreams & Zamboni Nightmares – “They need to make the puck neon pink, because I’m having a hard time watching TV and following it,” Carrie Underwood told Chicago’s US99 radio station back in April of 2009, when asked about watching her then-boyfriend Mike Fisher play for the Ottawa Senators. Fast forward three years, and the country superstar is married to Mike (who’s now a Nashville Predator) and has become somewhat of a hockey expert! – The Boot

James Durbin wants ‘American Idol’ to embrace heavy metal – “‘American Idol’ is really unsure about rock,” says Durbin, a finalist a year ago who lit up the stage, literally and figuratively, with his forays into heavy metal. “You have to assure them they need to love it and to give it a chance.” Durbin says he wanted to make the rock subgenre mainstream again. “When people think of metal now, they think of that Slayer stuff,” he says. “That’s not what it is. It’s melodic, it’s beautiful, it’s what’s in your dreams. It’s magic and it’s mystic.” – Read more at St Louis Today

American Idol Feud: Simon Cowell ‘Can’t Stand’ JLO – n his new biography, Simon Cowell unashamedly says what he really thinks about the Puerto Rican diva, the New York Daily News is reporting. “I’ve never met her” Cowell says in his book. “But I can’t stand her.” Ouch! Lopez made a mark on “American Idol” last year when she set a new tone on the singing competition. While Cowell was on the show, he was the surly, brutally honest and sometimes rude judge that contestants feared.- Read more at Latino.Fox.com
