EXCLUSIVE: Jordin Sparks Talks Losing Youngest Idol Title, Plus New Album

“I’ve seen a couple of episodes. I’ve been pretty busy, everything’s been insane. But I’ve watched a couple, ” Sparks tells Singersroom. “I actually might lose my crown this year of [being] the youngest winner ever because they lowered the age and there have been some great 15, 16, 17 year olds that I’ve seen and they’re so amazing. So I wish them the best of luck and I hope that they do well.”

Sparks also tells Singersroom she has started work on her third studio album, the follow-up to ‘Battlefield.’

“I just started working on it. I was recording something today that might potentially be for a movie – the theme song of a new movie coming out, so I’m excited about that, ” she says. “I’m working on new stuff. I saw Ryan Tedder and he gave me an amazing song that I’m really, really excited about. So we’ll see how it goes.”

‘Rock of Ages’ set for a victory dance at Hollywood’s Pantages

Six years ago, a time portal opened on Hollywood Boulevard. In the flash of a Bic lighter, skinny guys with blown-out hairdos and sprayed-on spandex were rocking power ballads again. A group of theater-world unknowns had created a 1980s hair-metal jukebox musical that they called, variously, “a love letter to L.A.” and “‘Mamma Mia’ for dudes.”

“Rock of Ages” bounced from its tiny King King birthplace to other small L.A. venues and even to Las Vegas, drawing real rock stars and a wider following. But it never gained acceptance in the theater world.
