The Do’s And Dont’s Of Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy Gala From Davis And Jennifer Hudson

And you’d better be a music fan if you want to be invited back, Davis says. “I am hands on when it comes to those that come, I want true music lovers, ” he says. “I don’t want people there looking for jobs, I don’t want people there just to schmooze or to talk. I pretty much and ask for, and get, respect for the artists on stage and real passion for the music that they hear. So you see it, and they don’t get invited again if they really are there for other purposes other than that. So through attrition, through the refining, through an eclectic mix we are able to have a spectacular audience with the common denominator being the love of music.”

Jennifer Hudson, who’s been there as both a performer and fan, has a clear memory of her fandom moment at the gala. “The thing that comes to my mind is getting to see Whitney perform. I remember standing at the tip of the stage watching her on the stage, ” Hudson tells Popeater.
