Idol Headlines for 01/02/08

Good morning everyone…

…a few announcements…

LisaB will no longer be posting the headlines. I’d like to thank her for doing such a great job with the Idol news day in and day out. It takes a lot of research to get this post together, and I really appreciate her efforts these past months.

I’ll be taking over the column from now on. There will be some minor changes to the format–I’ll be pulling up some of the bigger headlines to post above the jump, and I might even throw in a picture or two. Also, expect the headlines to appear around 7 am ET during the week. On the weekends…hmm…I’ll try to get them up as early as possible.

Thanks everyone for a great year on the blog, and I look forward to spending Season 7 with all of you. If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, drop me a line at mjsbigblog@gmail.com.

And now…

…Today Idol headlines after the jump ¦

As 2008 dawns, Ryan Seacrest delivers news, Kathy Griffin flusters Anderson Cooper, and Dick Clark carries on valiantly

What a loopy way to start a new year! Would you believe that Ryan Seacrest delivered more news than Anderson Cooper in covering the arrival of 2008?

Believe. On ABC, Seacrest helped Dick Clark kick off another glittery celebration in Times Square. But Seacrest also made news by interviewing New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who said definitely that he would not run for president.

Carrie Underwood’s Chaseless New Years

There was no big New Year Eve kiss for Carrie Underwood and Chace Crawford this year, as the American Idol winner and Gossip Girl star were busy attending separate functions on the holiday.

Looking quite elegant, Carrie was spotted in Times Square, there for a performance on Dick Clark New Year Rockin Eve 2008.

Enjoy the pictures of Carrie in NYC for New Year Eve, along with a few shots of Chace in Miami last night (December 31).

‹Idol sings the blues in Manila

MANILA, Philippines’ It not easy singin the blues to an audience whose daily dose of music comes from skinny teenyboppers, booty-shaking divas and bling-clad …boys from the hood.

Not if you are gray-haired and inclined to play the harmonica or if your dancing looks drug-induced.

But just as he defied pop stereotypes when he won …American Idol Season 5, soul singer Taylor Hicks also proved it pays to stay true to his style and brand of music.

Ex-Wing Kozlov hits milestone

Nashville pest Jordin Tootoo continues to infuriate opponents. Tootoo had a Gordie Howe hat trick (goal, assist, fight) last week against Columbus, his second such hat trick this season. Tootoo’s goal tied the game.

“I love Toots, ” Predators goalie Chris Mason said. “I feel bad for him sometimes because almost every time he makes a good hit, everyone is up in arms. But he’s probably the hardest hitter in the league, in my opinion. When he hits, he’s going to leave a mark.”

Tootoo, by the way, is keeping some handsome company these days. His girlfriend, American Idol idol Kellie Pickler, was at that Columbus game. They were also together at the Preds’ Christmas party.

Also at the game were Pickler friends Carrie Underwood (another Idol veteran) and country music babe Taylor Swift.
