Bono in control of concert from sick bed – U2 were fronted by Chris Martin and Bruce Springsteen for the free event in Time Square after Bono, who was injured in a bicycle incident last month, was busy recuperating. But one of the other performers at the concert, country superstar Carrie Underwood, said the U2 frontman was still in charge. “I know he was still very much running the show from his home very far away from Times Square. I know he was on the phone the whole time and watching everything,” Underwood told AAP.
“He was still very much involved even though he was laid up in bed and he couldn’t be there.” – Read more at Yahoo.com

American Idol-winning singer-songwriter Phillip Phillips discusses platinum-selling albums, touring and an evolving sound in anticipation of his performance at RIMAC this weekend. – Guardian: You’ve set off on quite an extensive tour, playing in some pretty large venues. But before your success following American Idol, you played some very intimate shows with a small band. Are there times you miss playing to smaller audiences or do you prefer the consistent excitement of playing larger shows? Phillip Phillips: Yeah, I want to do a tour at some point where it’s just me, my friend that plays the cello and the guitar player — as a little trio — and just play smaller venues like that. But it’s also fun playing the big ones as well because it’s clearly different than breaking it down acoustically and playing with a full band. You get to have fun and you get all these different personalities music-wise … I have an incredible band and it’s just an honor to play with them and share my music with them and have them share that with me as well. – Read more at UCS.Gardian.org

FANTASY SPRINGS: ‘Idol’ winner Phillip Phillips performs Saturday – Even after winning season 11 of “American Idol,” selling more than a million copies of his debut album and performing before thousands of fans, Phillip Phillips isn’t immune to stage fright—like when he sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the World Series this fall. “It was terrifying, they had a screen with the lyrics but it was on a three-second delay so I had to wing it,” the 24-year-old said during a recent phone interview as he was preparing to take the stage in Hollywood, Florida. – Read more at PE.com

‘Survivor’ host Jeff Probst explains why he stopped that reward challenge – ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: I love the fact that you called the alliance of five out for the “big charade” (as you put it) in rigging the system to decide who should win the reward challenge. What were your feelings when you saw that going down: Anger? Annoyance? Intrigue at a chance to shake-up how a challenge usually proceeds? All or none of the above? JEFF PROBST: I’ve been in a very truthful mood this season so here’s some more: I knew when we started the challenge that initially it was going to be a landslide and I had resigned myself to the alliance of five getting rid of those who were not in the alliance. I was okay with that, but once we got down to the five, I anticipated some game play. There is, after all, still a million dollars on the line. Instead, they started nonchalantly chatting as a group about what they should do next. Just right out in the open with not a care in the world. I am always thinking like the audience and within about ten seconds I was completely bored watching them “talk it out.” My brain did a fast-forward and I realized we are going to sit here for 15 minutes and smash skulls that have absolutely no bearing on the outcome because they are deciding it right now. – Read more at EW.com

Neil Meron, Craig Zadan on ‘Peter Pan Live!’ Emergency Plan, Casting Challenges and Mean Tweets – “Welcome to Neverland,” says Neil Meron, showing no signs of nerves on this late November day as crewmembers scurry around him on a Bethpage, N.Y., soundstage. On Dec. 4, he and longtime collaborator Craig Zadan, co-founders of Storyline Entertainment, will stage a live rendition of Peter Pan, starring Allison Williams and Christopher Walken, for viewers to devour and dissect (likely mercilessly on social media). Hopes are high for the NBC telecast, considering The Sound of Music Live!, the first live musical broadcast since the 1950s, drew 21.3 million viewers at this time last year (and prompted NBC to charge in the $400,000 range for ads in Pan). – Read moer at Hollywood Reporter

‘Peter Pan Live’ song switch praised by head of Native American museum – When “Peter Pan Live” airs on NBC on Thursday, there will be a few changes, including several new songs with lyrics by Amanda Green, whose father Adolph helped write some of the original songs. Some “Peter Pan” purists may scoff, but one of those changes is drawing praise from an unexpected direction. Kevin Gover, director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, has released a statement praising the show’s producers for replacing the song “Ugg-a-Wugg,” sung by the Native American character Tiger Lily, played by Alanna Saunders, with the more culturally sensitive song, “True Blood Brothers.” – Read more at LA Times
