Matt Giraud – Louisville – 23 – Kalamazoo, MI

Hailing from Ypsilanti, MI who currently resides in Kalamazoo, MI. Giraud is a life-long resident of Michigan who graduated from Western Michigan University in 2007 where he performed with the Gold Company vocal jazz program for two years.

Matt, whose soulful voice reminded Simon Cowell of Seaon 5’s Elliott Yamin, was part of the Hollywood group, “White Chocolate” with India Morrison, Kris Allen and Justin Williams. They wowed the judges with a soulful hip hop flavored take on “I Want You Back”

His performance of “Georgia” at the keyboards in Hollywood has spurred on an already growing fan base, but a disastrous and ill-advised rendition of Colplay’s “Viva La Vida” during the semi-final round had judges and viewers alike wondering what the hell happened to this promising front runner.

Matt took the judges advice and stuck to a soul vibe when he performed the Jackson 5’s “Who’s Loving You” for the wildcard.   He advanced with Anoop Desai to take the 12th and 13th spots of the Wildcard.

His vocals–stuffed with unnecessary runs haven’t sold me yet.   But if he gets behind the piano and pulls off some great performances, he could be in the running to take it all.   That is if he stays away from straight pop and sticks to soul.

Back home in Michigan, Matt works at a dueling Piano bar and has released a CD of Christian/Gospel music–check it out on Amazon HERE.
