Watkins: Skylar Laine part of Idol finale – “I consider being asked back for the finale a huge honor,” she said. “They said I will probably sing in an opening number, a closing number and a country medley. “That was a great year in my life, and I get to go back and see so many people I got to know. Plus, it’s nice to be associated with ‘Idol.’ It set the standard for all the other shows like it. It was the first one and the best one. I mean, look at (Season 4 winner) Carrie Underwood. She’s one of the co-queens of country music (along with Miranda Lambert). And (Season 6 winner) Jordin Sparks … her song ‘No Air’ was one of my favorites in high school. – Read more at Clarion Ledger.com
Chris Daughtry on Playing Judas, ‘American Idol’ and Greatest Hits – In case you somehow forgot, Chris Daughtry got his start back in 2006 on a little show called American Idol. He stood out from the beginning, when he confidently walked into the audition room to face the judges for the first time and spoke of needing to support his family. Fast-forward a few weeks, and he had proven himself to be the Season 5 frontrunner with performances of Fuel’s “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)” and a cover of Johnny Cash’s “I Walk the Line” by Live. But just four weeks out from the grand finale that would crown the winner, he was eliminated (Taylor Hicks was the eventual victor). – Read more at Rolling Stone

I got more comfortable every year.” – Read more at People.com
Simon Cowell: ‘American Idol’ Was a ‘Fun Moment in Time’ – Did you pay attention to any of the winners or contestants from the seasons after you left the show? I didn’t, to be honest with you. I liked Phillip Phillips, and that was about it. I couldn’t remember anyone else. So you stopped watching Idol after you left? I stopped watching it while I was on it! [laughs] Who’s your favorite Idol contestant of all time? Kelly Clarkson. Fantasia, too – I always had a soft spot for her. But I think Kelly, because she was there when it all started. Without Kelly, we never would have had the credibility and success that we had. – Read more at Yahoo.com
Randy Jackson on ‘American Idol’: ‘I Still Think It’s the Best Show – I think all those judges were good, but I think, as I said, if you’re gonna replace Paul and John in the Beatles with other people, it’s not quite the Beatles. You can’t expect it to be the same result because everybody has a different personality. All those people are great, but they didn’t own it like we did. As far as I’m concerned, along with all the executives at Fox and Fremantle and CAA and everybody, the four of us helped to build and shape the show as well: the comments that we made; the stuff that we helped with the production; the whatever. So when you are the creator, it’s different than the inhabitant of the creation. – Read more at Rolling Stone
