With 47.18% of reports in, Maroon 5 is coasting to an easy victory. This will be their second album chart topper with their first being their second album “It Won’t be Soon Before Long”. Their last album, “Overexposed” opened with 222K in 2012. This album is predicted to sell in the 150K range. This latest album is called “V”…I’m kind of hoping that it is an homage to the television mini-series from the 80s (recently revived as a series and cancelled). Adam could totally pull off the creepy “alien reveal” in one of his videos. He probably has already. But, no, this is probably called “V” because this is their fifth album and “Maroon 5 5” would look like a typo. Adam, of course, is a judge on The Voice which is returning on September 22nd. His bromance judge, Blake, has an album at 43rd.
Debuting in second is Jeezy. Remember when he was Young Jeezy? Man, it sucks to get old and you have to change your nickname. I wonder if he’ll still be in the business when he has to take on the title “Old Jeezy”. Maybe he’ll become “Jeezy With Experience”. Anyway, he had two consecutive number one albums as Young Jeezy and this will be his second album as Jeezy (the last one debuted at 3rd with 233K in sales). This album is predicted to sell around 95K.
Last week’s number one, “Ariana Grande” slides to 3rd. The money churners at Disney hold “Guardians of the Galaxy” at 4th (number one movie again last week and likely to be the only movie of the summer to crack $300M). Where is “Frozen”? For the first time in forever it is outside the top 10. Sure, winter is coming and “Frozen” stops selling. Too much reality? Counting Crows debut in 5th, Sam Smith keeps staying with us at 6th, Now 51 (featuring a track featuring XF Cher Lloyd) is 7th, Wiz Khalifa is 8th, 1D’s opener 5 Seconds of Summer are 9th and Nashville Star’s Miranda Lambert is 10th (the album features a duet with Idol’s Carrie Underwood).
Now 50 is back at 26th and it has a track from XF’s One Direction.
