HDD – Album Sales Prediction : Nov 5-11

With 54.02% of reports in, Taylor Swift is set to lead the chart for the third week. When you start with sales that high (that aren’t driven by 99 cent gimmick pricing), even large drops leave you with a lot of units being moved. She’s predicted to move 200-225K this week which would be impressive opening numbers for most artists. The ever popular NOW series is the top debut of the week which probably explains why they are already up to version 44. This one features songs by American Idol Kelly Clarkson, Canadian Idol Carly Rae Jepsen, Voice Judge Adam Levine and new American Idol judge Nicki Minaj. Now 43 is still on the chart at 28 and features Carly Rae Jepsen, One Direction, Cher Lloyd, XF US judge Demi Lovato and Voice judge Adam Levine. Even Disney is getting in on the NOW act with NOW Disney (22), but I think that features the original artists. The only song on this release that I think is related to this blog is the pop version of “Reflections” from Mulan which was sung by Voice Judge Christina.

Speaking of judges, there is former Idol Judge Steven Tyler and his band Aerosmith still turning out the hits at number 3 on the HDD building chart. Idol mentor, Rod Stewart is next and he leads the charge of Christmas album. IDK. I’m a Christmas song addict and even I’m a little surprised by the number of Christmas albums in the top 10 this early in November. Besides Rod, Voice Judge Blake Shelton (7), Lady Antebellum featuring Idol reject Hillary Scott (9) and Voice adviser Michael Buble (10) all have Christmas albums in the top 10. That only leaves room for Jason Aldean (5), Ne-Yo (5) and Little Big Town (8). There are two albums in the top 5 named “RED”/”R.E.D.” – kind of odd.

Speaking of Christmas albums, Scotty leads the charge of reality show contestants with his recent album currently at 12th. Not too shabby for a couple of days of work. Carrie Underwood is next with her “Blown Away” at 19, One Direction’s “Up All Night” is 25th and Jackie Evencho rounds out the contestants at 38 with “Songs from The Silver Screen”. Voice Judge Adam Levine’s Maroon 5’s “Overexposed” is at 27 and the Glee kid’s “Grease” special album is debuting at a relatively dismal 30.
