American Idol 10 alum, Haley Reinhart is featured in a sweet new advertising campaign for Extra chewing gum. She has recorded a cover of the Elvis Presley classic, “Can’t Help Falling in Love” as a backdrop for a narrative I’m sure the ad agency goes viral.
What isn’t obvious from just watching the extended spot, is that Haley’s fellow season 10 chum, Casey Abrams, plays piano in the simple, stripped down version of the song. Ad Age wrote a piece on the new campaign that includes all the credits.
In the clip, we watch a couple’s relationship blossom from first meeting, first kiss, etc. to that ultimate moment in every couple’s life. Major milestones revolve around one or the other offering a stick of gum. I mean, you’ve got to maintain fresh breath for that first kiss, right?
The spot is actually pretty adorable, as advertisements for gum go. Haley’s warm emotional delivery is the perfect setting for romance. The product isn’t presented in a super annoying way–not more than it would be if it were a movie product placement. Well done all around.
