Glee – Sectionals – Fall Finale!

Another incredible episode of Glee.   Drama! Suspense! Romance! It’s enough to tide us over until April.

Watch Cooper, Osnes & Munoz Sin...
Watch Cooper, Osnes & Munoz Sing Irving Berlin!

Rachel spilled the beans to Finn who now knows he’s not the father of Quinn’s baby. He almost didn’t join the gang at Sectionals, until he realized the team was more important than his hurt feelings.   The kids cleaned up at sectionals, despite the machinations of Sue Sylvester, who, finally outwitted by Will, goes off to lick her wounds and plot her comeback. Will left his wife and sailed right into the arms of Emma. Hooray!

And the singing–Mercedes (Amber Riley) KILLS “And I Am Telling You”. Rachel’s (Lea Michele) “Don’t Rain On My Parade” brings the house down. “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” is oddly affecting and “My Life Would Suck Without You” is irresistibly infectious.

Will Quinn and Puck raise their baby? Will Rachel and Finn get together? Has Will really ditched his wife for good? What are Sue Sylvester’s evil plans? And what will happen at regionals? We’ll find out when Glee returns to the airwaves in April…

  1. Mercedes just did the best performance of the series!!!! HOW THE HELL DID SHE NOT MAKE IT ON IDOL?

  2. omg..mercedes singing “and I am telling you..” was SO powerful. it almost had me in tears!! someone get this girl a record deal stat!! that had to be the most powerful performance so far this season!!

  3. I don’t know what Amber Riley sounded like when she auditioned for Idol, but if she sounded like she does now I wonder how many other people of comparable talent they’ve ignored for one reason or another.

  4. Glee is so serious tonight’ ¦

Except Sue comes through with the “finding a hairstyle that doesn’t make you look like a lesbian.” Ha!

  5. “Maybe I could improvise some of my Def Jam poetry?”

    Best line of the series.

  6. god, I’m going to be doing some crazy tivoing come spring… Idol, results show and GLee

  7. <blockquoteExcept Sue comes through with the ‘finding a hairstyle that doesn’t make you look like a lesbian.’ Ha!

THat was funny but it takes a lesbian to know one…lol

  8. Rachel doing “Don’t Rain on My Parade”! I’m not spoiled for this show, so I didn’t know she was going to do that. What a perfect choice for her. Chills.

  9. finn’s voice sounded rougher tonight, it was hot lol. i liked that a lot

  10. “This is a singing competition, I dont know how those deaf kids got here”

  11. Aside from this show being awesome, and Sue being the best tv character I’ve seen in years, there is some damn amazing singing going on tonight!

This has been a really fun night of tv for me so far tonight.

  12. I bet it’s a tie with a sing off (just my stupid idea). Sometime this show they r singing My life would suck without you.

  13. @soccerboi Yeah, that’s why I’m here–to have my sexuality called into question. Thanks for that.

Anyway, loving this episode. Ballad, schmallad–I thought Rachel’s DROMP was absolutely fantastic. More tears. I am a mess. A straight mess. ;)

  14. will emma go through with the wedding?! i dont want her too, she doesnt love ken:(

  15. Rickey is reporting Idiana Menzal will be appearing in 9 episodes next year as Vocal Adrenlines coach

  16. Sue is removed as coach of the Cheerios!! Sue is suspended from the school!!!

And Will left his wife. And Finn knows it’s not his baby. And Rachel and Mercedes performed out-of-this-world solos.

This episode has more drama packed into it than all the other ones put together.

  17. This episode has more drama packed into it than all the other ones put together.

seriously smartcookie – I’m out of breath just watching it!

@onlinepastry lol’ ¦..I meant Sue was the lesbian’ ¦

Apologies to you both, but that is one of the funniest misunderstandings I’ve ever seen on this blog. I know it’s probably wrong to find that humorous, but i can’t help it.

  18. And a kiss. Awwwwww. I love those two crazy kids.

How long do we have to wait for more episodes?

  19. AWWWWWW Kelly Clarkson!

And FINALLY! The kiss in the hallway that was always supposed to happen!

Goodbye Glee. I’m going to miss you.

  20. that routine was amazing, winter is gonna suck so bad!!! will and emma!!! im so happy!!!

  21. omg..this episode was PERFECT! I loved every second of it. it’s not fair that there taking it away from us for four months.. i literally might die !!

  22. @soccerboi Duh. That’s what I get for drinking wine and commenting on blogs simultaneously! Sue is really a piece of work!

I can’t believe we have to wait until April. I feel like stomping my little feet in consternation. But I won’t, because I’m grown and all… ;)

  23. Apologies to you both, but that is one of the funniest misunderstandings I’ve ever seen on this blog. I know it’s probably wrong to find that humorous, but i can’t help it.

LMAO SpenserJ I’m totally with you on that one! That misunderstanding was hilarious

  24. i had to take my doggie out so i missed the whole scene of rachel tellin finn hes not the daddy and finn confronting quinn and puck…could somebody be a dear and pleeeease tell me what happened lol?

  25. that was the best finale!! lea michelle’s singing, the group singing and the ending…wow i loved every minute of it.

  26. gossipgirl630 and wrigley, you guys are absolutely right. tonight’s episode was PERFECT. couldn’t have thought of another way to wrap up the first part of the season!! what an amazing show, i can’t wait until april.

  27. @SpenserJ So glad we could give you a laugh. I’m chuckling into my wine glass as I type this!

I appreciate a good laugh anytime you’re willing to provide one :)

I’m holding my Captain and Diet coke up right now in order to cyber-toast you!

  28. Boo! No more Glee until Spring! April isn’t it? that’s such a looong time for the show that makes me look forward to Wednesday!

What a FANTASTIC episode tonight was!

Mercedes and Rachel both gave me chills this evening!

Great singing, heartfelt moments, lots of Sue, what more could I ask for, except for Glee to not go on hiatus!?!

  29. That was just perfect! Love this show, loved that episode. I squealed when Will kissed Emma! LOVE IT!

And Mercedes & Rachel were simply AMAZING in their solos!

  30. The ending was exactly what I wanted! Whether Will’s marriage can be saved is debatable, but he has so much more in common with Emma.

Quinn wanted Mr. Shue to raise her baby – now that won’t happen. But what will happen? I hope at some point her out-of-their-minds parents come to their senses. I felt sorry for both Finn and Puck. Yes, these things do happen in real life.

They won; yes, they won! And now it is on to Regionals. How can they get any better than they were tonight? Awesome – just awesome!

  31. @SpenserJ Cheers back at you; I do love a good laugh–even if it is at my own expense!

What a great episode. Can we please fast forward to April? *hic* :D

  32. LOOOOOOVE.

Srsly, what am I going to do for the next 4 months?! That finale made me so happy…any show that ends with a boy slow-motion running down a hallway to a kick ass pop song to kiss a girl is excellent, haha. I think “And I Am Telling You” is way played out, but Mercedes was excellent. Rachel was outstanding on her solo (so glad we got another from her, her voice is incredible) and that group number made me wanna cry a little, in the best way possible, haha.

  33. Oh and also, my high school tennis team sang “My Life Would Suck Without You” to our tennis coach after making it to the state semifinals… so the Glee cast performing it was pretty special :D

  34. can anybody tell me how finn reacted to rachel tellin him hes not the daddy and what happened with him quinn and puck??? pretty please lol!

  35. So freakin good!! I loved every second of it and was seal clapping on my couch at the very end haha!! ERG….April?! But the way the left it leaves open so many possibilities as to what can happen in 4 months. At least I’ll AI to keep me occupied…hopefully there’ll be some good peeps to peek my interest!

  36. paisely_cowgirl – yeah, as terps said, we didn’t see Rachel actually tell Finn. But when the show came back from commercial, it came in on Finn and Puck fighting with Mr. Shue coming in to break it up. Finn was VERY upset, everyone was like “who told you”, someone said “it had to be Rachel”, and Finn said “yeah, it was Rachel, but I want to hear it from both of you.” and Quinn finally admitted it. He was so pissed, that he stormed out of the room telling them all that he was “done with them all.”

  37. OK, that episode was just awesome. And I FINALLY got my mother to watch it… and she loved it… and now no more until April?! Waaaah!

(And my husband thought I was nuts when Emma was holding up the phone during the performance and I said “Hey! Cellcast!” He was like… huh?)

  38. I’m a little late knowing this, but for those who don’t already know, I just recently learned that Amber Riley ( who plays Mercedes ) auditioned for American Idol but was voted down by the producers.

It’s all there on the Wikipedia page about her.

    MORONS !!

  39. Random opinions:

Rachel was really ticking me off in the first half of the episode. Seriously, she had no right to do what she did. However, when she did that big number at sectionals I started to like her again lol.

About Amber auditioning for Idol. I’m suprised but not suprised at the same time that she didn’t get through. Not everyone who can sing makes it through the first rounds, it’s all luck the first time. Jordin Sparks had to audition twice before making it through and Chikeze (most likely spelling his name wrong) auditioned like 6 or 7 times.

  40. How am I going to function without this show for 4 months? ARGH. I guess I’m going to have to get the “Road to Sectionals” DVD, after all. My DVR erased the first 3 episodes because I have a crapload of other stuff piling up on there. I wanted to wait til the whole season came out on DVD, but I guess I’ll have to bite the bullet. Grrr.

  41. I’m a little late knowing this, but for those who don’t already know, I just recently learned that Amber Riley ( who plays Mercedes ) auditioned for American Idol but was voted down by the producers.

Doesn’t surprise me at all. When you audition, you can hear others auditioning and I heard a lot of really talented singers who didn’t get past the first round. Like hypnoticwhisper said, the first round is basically luck. You could be crazy talented and still get cut that round.

About the episode, though…I was totally squealing like a fangirl at the end. When I saw Will running down the hallway, I was like “OMG!” and then when he found the classroom empty, I was like “dangit!” and thought that was gonna be it, that he was too late. But then when it showed him running down the second hallway and then Emma standing at the end, I was like “YES YES YES! OMG OMG OMG!” XD

I loved that episode. I’m glad Quinn said what she said to Puck. I mean, seriously. He had just told her a few episodes ago that he was still going to be hooking up with the “hot girls” and now he is gonna want her to believe that he’s going to suddenly be mature. Nah.

I do expect that they’ll probably work it out by the time the baby arrives, however.

I was glad that Rachel told Finn because Quinn constantly nagging Finn about money when she knew that he wasn’t responsible was ticking me off. As was the fact that Mercedes knew all about it and told Puck to stay out of it because Quinn had chosen Finn. Grrr. So I’m glad that’s out in the open now.

I really loved Rachel in this episode.

Oh oh oh! And seeing Mr. Shue tearing up while listening to the sectionals performances on the phone nearly made me tear up. Awww.

  42. That was the best finale of everything ever, for real.

My Life Would Suck Without You was a clever and amazing finisher to such a great season.

I think it’s kinda weird that people like Sue. I mean, I do too, but she is just about the most hate-able thing I’ve ever seen on TV in a while. Jane Lynch is an amazing actress though and I love her for doing well with Sue, but I just think it’s kinda funny that we like the villain even though she’s so hate-able :P. Although I guess that’s the point of the villain….

  43. Not sure how anyone could be mad at Rachel telling Finn that Puck was the daddy. All those people are supposed to be his friends, and they all knew and were holding it from, letting him look like an IDIOT. Yes, Rachel did it for selfish reason, but her actions were the right ones.

  44. BEST.FINALE.EVER.

I can’t wait for the final 9 episodes of Season 1 in April! So much to look forward to! It’s gonna be a fight to the finish between New Directions and Vocal Adrenaline. And now all the new road bumps the show is telling us, what with Rachel falling in love with the lead singer of Vocal Adrenaline (broadway star, Jonathan Groff). Also, the casting of broadway goddess, Idina Menzel as Vocal Adrenaline’s coach! PERFECTION. Plus the fact that she looks so much like Lea Michele, imagine if the big twist of the second half is that she’s Rachel’s biological mom?!

And let’s not forget the biggest road block of all: Sue Sylvester’s “sleeping giant”…I can’t wait to see what evil Sue comes up with to torment Will and the Glee kids. ARGH! Is it April yet?!

  45. PERFECTION!!!
omg i cant believe i have to wait till APRIL!!! T.T I want more GLEE!!

oh and I loved Rachel today. kay, who am i kidding. i always do. but honestly, to all you haters who are mad at her for telling Finn… well who else was, Quinn had so many chances but didnt and everyone else was just going to keep from him… that would be selfish.. no?

jonathon groff as rachels new love interest is really interesting. i guess fichel doesnt happen yet huh? well he gets to be jealous now then :)

  46. OK, so I just previewed the Glee Vol. 2 album…when did Mercedes sing “Don’t Make Me Over”?? Either this scene never happened, or I’m losing it.

Nevertheless, Amber Riley sounds incredible on it as always.

  47. That was a great finale! It had everything you could want in one episode. Can’t wait for April.

    From EW’s The Ausiello Files:

Question: Any news on Joss Whedon’s upcoming Glee episode? ‘”John
Ausiello: Yes. He’s booked to direct the sixth episode back, which, barring any interruptions, will air on May 18. Send your viewing party invites to ausielloscoop@ew.com and I’ll try and hit as many as I can.

  48. Amber Riley was channeling the incomparable Miss Jennifer Holliday. I know there are a lot of JHud lovers here and properly so, But Miss Holliday was the first and best performer of “And I’m Telling You”.

I encourage you to watch this clip, starting at 3:30…

  49. Hey, mj, maybe one of your next articles covering Idol for the NY Post can be about the “ones who got away.” Colbie Caillat and now Amber Riley. Jeebus, if she isn’t one of the most outrageous young talents we’ve witnessed in a decade, then I don’t know who is.

Great episode. Even my family, who’d kind of gotten bored with the show, loved the finale. Way to go, Ryan Murphy!

  50. They pulled bits of choreography from several earlier songs for My Life Would Suck Without You. I loved that! It was like a fun review of the season. Rachel even grabbed a couple of cowboy butts, ala Kristen Chenowith! :)

  51. (And my husband thought I was nuts when Emma was holding up the phone during the performance and I said ‘Hey! Cellcast!’ He was like’ ¦ huh?)

LOL, I did the same thing (and I hate cellcerts–can’t handle the underwater sound)! I got some weird looks from the DH and DS on that one. I actually wondered if that was a little shoutout to obsessed Idol fans, but most likely not. ;-)

  53. So I’m rewatching last night’s episode right now…

When Will is talking to Finn in the locker room, there’s a poster in the background that says “Excuse Limit 0.” I totally have that poster in my classroom! I’m so proud.

Also, Artie repeatedly ramming himself into the wall…hilarious. Brittany talking about the bird she kept in her locker…awesome.

  54. OK, so I just previewed the Glee Vol. 2 album’ ¦when did Mercedes sing ‘Don’t Make Me Over’ ?? Either this scene never happened, or I’m losing it.

    It was in Hairography.

“Sectionals” was great. I loved the judging. The obnoxious beauty queen, the no-nonsense bureaucrat who didn’t want to be there and the airhead news anchor who can’t stop talking in news-anchor-speak (the one that Sue hooked up with. Too bad she dumped him or she could have fixed that part of the competition too). “New Directions” probably deserved the win, but it was totally random that they won with judging like that.

i had to take my doggie out so i missed the whole scene of rachel tellin finn hes not the daddy and finn confronting quinn and puck’ ¦could somebody be a dear and pleeeease tell me what happened lol?

Paisley, you can watch the latest episode of GLee at Hulu.com. Their deal with Fox is they can have the 5 most recent episodes up. I usually watch it on my computer the day after since I often get interrupted or fall asleep when it’s on.

  56. Great episode. I’m really glad the Puck baby is out in the open now. Lots of funny and dramatic scenes.

AI Nick Mitchell has forever ruined (in a good way) ‘And I’m Telling You’. I cannot listen or watch someone else do that song without thinking of him fondly. Heck, I was even thinking of how cool and funny it would have been if he was pulled in as the substitute coach for sectionals.

‘Don’t Rain On My Parade’ was awesome.

The GLee sales prove the power of television for selling music. I’d say it factors in much more so than radio play. I personally don’t find much of the music on GLee that good. It is very auto-tuned and obviously so. There is, of course, some very good singing talent on the show. I happen to love watching it.

  57. Just had to drop in to say … one of my favorite Broadway tunes, EVAH, “Don’t Rain on My Parade” was KILLER last night. Just gave me goosebumps from the opening right up until the show-stopping end.

What a great, joyous, different show “Glee” is. I love watching it every week and hope a few other music oriented shows (I am looking at you, “Idol”) will tide me over until its return.

  58. All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mercedes and Rachel blew the roof off the place!!!!!!!!! This episode made me “gleeful!” Can’t WAIT till this fall!

  59. All I know is ‘hoochie-ho’ is SO making it into my vocabulary, ha!

Great fall finale. Is it April already?

  60. They pulled bits of choreography from several earlier songs for My Life Would Suck Without You. I loved that! It was like a fun review of the season. Rachel even grabbed a couple of cowboy butts, ala Kristen Chenowith!

I noticed that too. Kurt did his Single Ladies and the blond cheerleader was doing Hairography.

I loved this episode. Sue was amazing, Finn finally found out and the kiss at the end. Loved it!!!

Just one silly thought that has bugged me. Why didn’t Finn ever have sex with Quinn after she told him she was pregnant? It’s not like they’d have to use birth control. I know, know you have to suspend reality when you watch this show.

  61. I noticed that too. Kurt did his Single Ladies and the blond cheerleader was doing Hairography.

They also did part of the boys-in-hats routine from Last Name, all the Cheerios did Say a Little Prayer, both the boys and the girls were doing their mash-ups, and they lined up chairs for Mercedes to stand on – I can’t remember which episode that was from.

I’m sure there are more. It was quite a dance mash-up. Fun.

  62. That look in Will’s eyes, as he touches Emma’s lips with his finger, conveys more emotion than any words could. Great scene!!

  63. I’m sure there are more.

I saw Push It :D, and Artie did a little of Rollin on the River.

Nothing but love for this eppy. Woo!

I just think it’s kinda funny that we like the villain even though she’s so hate-able .

If the Grinch were coach of a champion cheering squad, his name would be Sue Sylvester. I think people enjoy Sue on one hand for the love to hate-ish-ness of her because she’s so outrageously OTT. On the other, she’s not all bad. We’ve seen that Sue’s sister is kind of her own version of Cindy Lou Who, and we’re all kind of waiting to see if there’s anything that will ever make her heart grow three sizes and come to respect Will in her own way, YKWIM?

  64. I cried when Mercedes sang “And I’m telling you”
I cried when Rachel sang “Rain on My Parade”
These kids are sooooo talented! I just love it!
I think Rachel was right to tell Finn. I know she had her own selfish reasons but I like that she was morally courageous enough to do it AND to reveal her intentions to Quinn. I like Rachel.

  65. Someone had an idea on a glee board to have Terri be the replacement coach for the Cheerios since she was cheer captain back in her day….that would be pretty freakin funny!!

The thing about these shows is that you get so excited on the finales and then when the show resumes everything’s back to being jacked up….of course I hope that’s not the case, but we do have 4 months to speculate and enjoy what already went down.

  66. “And I’m Telling You” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade” were perhaps the 2 very best covers renditions on this show all season, both packed into a single episode!

Unlike everyone else here, I think it’s odd that they tied up every single story arc in this episode. Not a cliffhanger in sight! Sue saying “I’ll get you back” is not exactly a cliffhanger… In a way, it’s as though they think the series might not get picked up for renewal in April (or however these things work), so they wanted this set to be a complete story for a DVD package, in case the series doesn’t continue.

I love the black-comedy aspect of this show – the fake pregnancy, the pregnancy via hottub, the OCD, etc. The second half of the season got too conventional for me, but the final 2 episodes brought the black comedy back, so were much more engaging.

Finally, Jane Lynch must just be pinching herself for having landed what’s probably the richest female acting role on broadcast television in years, if ever! Not the wife, the gf, or the love interest, but a smart three-dimensional villain who’s layers are still being discovered, and with some of the most off-beat comedic lines since, what, early SNL?? This is a role, exercising both comedy & drama, that any male actor would kill for, and usually, get.

  67. Finally, Jane Lynch must just be pinching herself for having landed what’s probably the richest female acting role on broadcast television in years, if ever! I totally disagree. The producers of Glee should be pinching themselves that they were lucky enough to get someone as good as Jane Lynch for that role. She’s the real reason the character has developed at all.

  68. Next to the pilot this was my favorite. It was perfect!!! (altho I hope next season the producers would have taken all the critisism about the bad lip synching to heart. We know they it’ s the actors who are singing, but there must be something they can do to make it look better!)

  69. @Ptnyc34 – of course you are right as well. jane lynch is one of the best out there, and she clearly elevates the game for all at glee. i just lament that such meaty roles are almost always written for men, so it’s awesome that she’s getting some work worthy of her talents!
