Eurovision 2013 – Ozzyd’s Power List

EUROVISION 2013 – GRAND FINALE POWERLIST BY OZZYD

Hey everyone! Eurovision 2013 is here!!! There’s nearly no time left before the finale!

I’m from Cyprus and I’m a Turkish Cypriot… The Turkish Cypriots watch Eurovision through Turkey and since they withdrew from the competition, there’s no competition for us either. So I just wanted to keep the Eurovision spirit alive and do something here.

Today I’ll be sharing my power list for the 26 countries in the finals with you!

  • The Eurovision Finals Air Live from the Malmö Arena in Sweden beginning at 3 pm ET. We’ll have a link to a live stream up later!

KEEP IN MIND that there is a VERY high chance that this power list is inaccurate!!!

The list is highly subjective (even though I’ve considered the Internet popularities and everything) and Eurovision is a highly political competition so the final results are likely to be NOT based on the songs but the political relationships.

26. HUNGARY (Kedvesem – ByeAlex)

OK. This is a horrendous song. Probably the most boring song this year. Extremely repetitive and the singer does not do any good to the song… There’s nothing good to be said about it. Most people probably won’t like it enough to vote for it.

25. LITHUANIA (Something –Andrius Pojavis)

If a song starts with the lyrics ‘I have to tell you something, it’s been on my mind for too long. I gotta tell you something, it’s been on my mind, I’m in love with you’ the song is not good. And the song is actually very boring and unpleasant… The singer has weird, I mean, REALLY weird face expressions, and the song itself, the guy’s voice and his facial expressions, they are all repulsive.

 24. ESTONIA (Birgit – Et Uus Saas Alguse)

This is definitely better than the other two songs and I hope it doesn’t end up so low in the leaderboard but not being in English hurts the song, and the song is not a song which you fall in love wih at first listen… So I guess it doesn’t stand much chance…

23. Malta (Tomorrow – Gianluca)

This is another interesting entry. In the semi-final 2, I got 8 out of the 10 finalists correct and one of the two I didn’t was this one. This is NOT a terrible song, has kind of a Jason Mraz vibe going on but it just gets boring… And the singer looks as if he is a random guy walking down the Malta city centre and was asked to do Eurovision and he just said yes.

 22. Belgium (Love Kills –Roberto Bellarosa)

OK, honestly speaking, this song is probably should have made the top 15 if it was just about the song. The song is good, or at least not terrible unlike most  songs, BUT the way the guy moves (or doesn’t move) on stage, even while singing just makes me move uncomfortable. It just makes me wanna poke my eyes out of their place. It’s that bad.

 21. SPAIN (Contigo hasta el final –ESDM)

This song sounds more like a Scottish tune than a Spannish tune.. Anyway, Spain NEVER takes Eurovision seriously and always sends crappy Spanish stuff. The song is just bad. Not the worst song ever but just bad.

 20. ARMENIA (Lonely Planet – Dorians)

A relatively good song… Why have I placed it this low? I just couldn’t come to love it, and there are way better songs in the competition. (even though there are no KILLER songs this year)

 19. UK (Believe in Me – Bonnie Tyler)

Yay. Bonnie Tyler! The Superstar. Of 30 years ago. Heh. UK always has a disadvantage in the competition as do the other 4 countries who directly qualify the finals as the other countries are jelous of them. The song is good, nothing special. People won’t be going crazy over it and be voting for it.

18. ITALY (L’essenziale – Marco Mengoni)

A ‘The Voice’ alum! I’ve loved the last 2 Italian entries since they returned the competition, but this year the song just doesn’t feel right, the singer seems unlikeable… I am guessing this won’t do as well as their 2011 (and 2012) entries did.

17. UKRAINE (Gravity – Zlate Ognevich)

This sounds JUST LIKE A DISNEY PRINCESS SONG MEETS A LION KING SONG…. and the video does not help make it better… And the song lacks a character… and I checked if this song is in English or Ukrainian… Her accent is just…. Anyway, the song is weird. Will probably rank higher than 17th but I just can’t put it any higher than this.

16.BELARUS (Solayoh – Alyona Lanskaya)

This is a VERY fun and catchy song which (especially the male) viewers will definitely buy. Nice legs BTW. But I have a feeling that she will be punished for these by the jury decreasing her overall position. If it was up to the public  only, top 10 could have been possible… I still wouldn’t be surprised if she makes it into the top 10 though.

 15. ROMANIA (It’s My Life – Cezar)

This is most probably one of the top 5 weirdest etries of the last 10 years of Eurovision. What the heck? It is just funny to watch this but the song is almost like a guilty pleasure and I can’t hate on it! I feel like the gay community may like this and vote for it to save it from being 20th or something (even though most of the gay votes will go to someone else… Keep reading to find out!!!)

14. RUSSIA (What If – Dina Garipova)

A beauty pageant type of song… Good message, full of clichés. I don’t hate it, I don’t love it. Just an OK ballad and I felt like I’ve heard it billions of times before right after my first listen. Won’t probably come across very well but may be OK as well. We’ll see.

 13. GEORGIA (Waterfall – Nodi Tatishvili and Sophie Gelovani)

A good ballad possibly sang by singers who can’t fluenty speak English. It is alright, at least better than some stuff but I don’t love it. May do OK, may end up 24th, I really don’t know.

 12. ICELAND (Ég á líf – Eythor Ingi)

Hm. I don’t know what to think about this song. I really don’t. It’s not bad, it’s not excellent. (ps. I know I’m saying I don’t know very often but the competition is VERY unpredictable and judging 26 songs at once is hard haha)

 11. NETHERLANDS (Birds – Anouk)

This song is so not Eurovision-esque and will not come across very well to the viewers. It is a VERY good song but not a Eurovision winner type. I feel like it’s going to rank higher than this, passing some of the countries I put higher but not really sure how much…  (ps. At first I placed this at no. 14 and slowly moved it up as I realized the ones above were much worse)

 10. MOLDOVA (O Mie – Aliona Moon)

The stage performance of this song is AMAZING. I LOVE IT! The song itself is very good but it’s not in English which is always a big disadvantage in the universe of Eurovision. This MIGHT end up like last year’s Albanian entry (which was a more emotional ballad with a small opera part in the middle) and finish at like 4th place even though it’s not in English. It might go the other was as well and dunk to 20th place. But I personally really enjoy the song and like the way the language sounds.

 9. FINLAND (Marry Me – Krista Siegfrids)

OK. The performance ends with a BIG lesbian kiss so this song is DEFINITELY getting most of the gay votes. Might also get straight votes (who are NOT homophobes) as the the girl is quite cute and the song is catchy

8. FRANCE (L’enfer et Moi – Amandine Bourgeoise)

As a non-fluent French speaker/learner I really REALLY like this song. I just love how the lyrics are so dark and creepy ‘I will make you hell (what? Haha) watch you back, it will be me’. Anyway, I love the sound of the song but as I said before with the UK entry, this one has a selective disadvantage as well. So I don’t think it’s gonna do extremely well. I’ll be surprised if it does this well but my personal preferences ended up putting her up here rather than down there.

7. GREECE (Alcohol is Free – Koza Mostra feat. Agathon Iakovidis)

This is my ultimate guilty pleasure song that has made it to the finale. The song is so fun, even though I don’t understand a word, except Alcohol Is Free. All I know is maybe because I’m Cypriot, I may have quite a bit of a sympathy for this kind of music, even though I usually hate it. I can’t stand but this one is so different than the others, and I swear I’m not being biased. Last year they sent a similar song (similar style, I hated it, they did well, I think) and this one is better so I think this one will do OK too.

6. AZERBEIJAN (Hold Me – Farid Mammadov)

OK, I’m just impressed by how Azeri people take this competition so seriously.  They have joined the competition only a few years ago, and they already have a win. This year’s song is again very good, maybe just a tiny bit cheesy, and doesn’t have the best stage presentation. But it should do alright. (ps: I’m honestly being unbiased here. When I don’t like something, I’m not afraid to say I don’t however much I’m connected to what the thing is, who it is by etc.)

5. GERMANY (Glorious – Cascada)

OK. I’ve been a Cascada fan over for over 5 years, but I must admit it, I hated their latest album, so much that I still don’t have it. This song is just good, and it’s better than most of the songs. It has a character, it has good production, beautiful vocals, I guess the staging is fun as well, and Cascada is an established group who has been active all over Europe for nearly a decade. So I don’t see a reason why they shouldn’t do well, apart from the same reason with France and the UK.

 4. SWEDEN (You – Robin Stjernberg)

I really like how he plays with his voice. The song is very very nice but not the best. I’m putting him this high because of his voice and because other songs are, really , worse than this.

3. NORWAY (I Feed You My Love – Margaret Berger)

The most interesting (English) song title of the year. The song is probably the best song for me, and at first this was the 2nd place but had to change it after thinking about it. Why? This sounds like a very energetic song and it has a very interesting stucture and everything BUT the singer just stands there all through the song and just sings it. I HOPE it end up higher but I doubt it. Another Norwegian win? Probably impossible, to be honest.

 2. IRELAND (Only Love Survives – Ryan Dolan)

This is the most radio/audience friendly song in the competition. It is probably not the best but it just sounds right and it is really likeable. This song also started quite low on my list but quickly rose to reach this position.  I think if it ends up missing the first place, it won’t be by a big margin. He also has a good chance at winning, so I wouldn’t be surprised…

1.DENMARK (Only Teardrops  – Emmelie de Forest )

This song has been the favourite all along. It is leading the polls and everything all over the internet. There is a whole lot of people who say it won’t win but I guess she is the strongest candidate to take the win. This is a very good song anyway, and probably deserves to win among these songs BUT I seriously think that any of this top 3 (or maybe even 4) can end up getting the crown.

General Thoughts:

I think that this year, the competition will be a close call, as none of the songs are extremely strong and just overshadows all the others, like last year’s Euphoria, and Fairytale from a few years ago. It’s going to be a fun night anyway, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a VERY unexpected country wins. We have to wait and see… I would also like to remind that the competition is highly political and it might be very different than the expected results… We will be able to discuss these things after the finale.

The songs I feel like they should have been in the final:

–          SAN MARINO (Crisalide (Vola) – Valentina Monetta)

This song has been a fan favourite from the beginning. It is a very interesting song and I actually thought that it had a solid chance at even making the top 10.

–          MONTENEGRO (Igranka – Who See)

This one…. This is another guilty pleasure song for me. It is just the most fun song I’ve heard in some time. Especially the chorus… I hate the male parts but the female part is fun. Also, the astronauts on the stage were really funny haha.

Thank you for reading my powerlist!! I hope to see you again in the future!
