Professional attention w****, Donald Trump just threw his hat into the presidential race, and it may have consequences for his NBC show, Celebrity Apprentice.
In a statement released by NBC, the network says it plans to “re-evaluate” his role as host of Celebrity Apprentice going forward.
“We will re-evaluate Trump’s role as host of Celebrity Apprentice should it become necessary, as we are committed to this franchise.”
The problem is the network is required by law to give equal screen time to all presidential candidates. There are no plans for Trump to appear on camera on the new season, which has not yet begun production.
At this point, the Celebrity Apprentice start date will rely on his status as a presidential candidate. The competition reality show was picked up for an 8th season in February.
Trump formally announced his run for presidency Tuesday morning from Trump Tower in New York City.
“Our country needs a truly great leader, and we need a truly great leader now. We need a leader that wrote The Art of the Deal; we need a leader that can bring back our jobs, manufacturers, military, to take care of our vets,” he told the audience. “We need somebody that can take the brand of the United States and make it great again. Ladies and gentlemen, I am officially running for President of the United States. We are going to make our country great again!”
“I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created,” he continued. “I’ll bring back our jobs from China, Mexico, Japan, so many places. I’ll bring back our jobs and I’ll bring back our money!”
I can’t imagine Trump’s little stunt run is going to last very long. Production on the new season may be delayed a few months. But remember: There was a two year gap between seasons 6 and 7. Long delays are nothing new for Celebrity Apprentice.
Or maybe it’s time to find a new host. NBC should yoink a shark from ABC’s Shark Tank. Unlike Trump, any one of the sharks would be credible. A woman host would be terrific. Barbara Corcoran for Celebrity Apprentice host! Yessss! Ditch that clown, Trump, NBC. Do it!
