Spoiler alert! According to the Cincinnati Enquirer preview, the special will feature a very special opening performance by Keith Urban and 3 performances by Carrie Underwood.

This post is for discussion of the performances and will be updated later with videos from our fearless and awesome leader MJ. Updates and videos after the jump!

Update 1: Keith Urban opened the show with a special performance of With A Little Help From My Friends featuring Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Roads Schlapman of Little Big Town and Sarah Buxton. The performance was a tribute to the resilience and neighborly spirit of the people of Middle Tennessee after the devastating floods of May.

Keith’s performance was followed by Carrie Underwood performing Cowboy Casanova. Also in the 1st hour of the show, Kellie Pickler introduced her friend Tim McGraw before his performance.

Update 2: The 2nd hour of the special kicked off with Brad Paisley asking Carrie such important questions as her favorite color. When she said her favorite color is blue, he informed her that she was wrong because Wikipedia says her favorite color is red. Carrie seemed willing to work with that. Carrie also commented that hockey is just figure skating with sticks. The interview was followed by Carrie’s performances of Undo It and Last Name.

  1. Opening by Keith was indeed special, great job and a moving tribute. Can’t wait to see him w/Kris on Sat.!

  2. Love Keith Urban! Watching his performance I was reminded somewhat of Casey James? Just sayin…

  3. Kieth Urban butchered Help From My Friends IHMO. And I love Keith Urban…have been to two concerts in the past two years! The backup singers were great though!

  4. Kieth Urban butchered Help From My Friends IHMO.

Oh man, and I loved it! I love Keith Urban, too. He’s one of my favorite people to see in concert. He’s so talented!

  5. Was there something wrong with the sound? I didn’t think Carrie sounded to good in the two numbers I watched. I got bored and turned to something else.

  6. Kieth Urban butchered Help From My Friends IHMO. And I love Keith Urban…have been to two concerts in the past two years! The backup singers were great though!

The two singers on either end are in Little Big Town. Excellent country quartet!

  7. That was a cute piece with Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. I initially didn’t recognize Pickles; she’s changed her down home self.

  8. I didn’t see the show, so it’s nice to have videos here to watch.

I LOVED Keith Urban, Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Roads Schlapman, and Sarah Buxton doing ‘Little Help From My Friends.’ I love that song, and I loved their interpretation of it. The guitar was fantastic. The flood montage was very moving as well.

I’ll watch the others later. Dying battery here.

  9. I added a cap by roxygirly12 of the Carrie/Brad CMA commercial, which is pretty funny. It’s under Update 5 :)

IMHO there’s nobody better at connecting with the emotions of songs than Keith Urban. I loved that performance with him and the ladies of Little Big Town and Sarah Buxton because it oozed sincerity and gratitude.

tripp_ncwy: With the LP Field performances I think the problem was the mikes weren’t set up for TV like you normally see with award show and morning show performances. The mikes are set up for the stadium crowd so I don’t think they got that level of clarity for what they showed on TV. They probably tried to fix the mixes a little in post production but they could only do so much. I for one really liked Carrie’s Cowboy Casanova and Last Name performances. She sounded strong without sacrificing the energy of the songs. I would’ve traded Undo It for a performance of Temporary Home or her JTTW/HGTA mashup but I shouldn’t complain because she got 3 songs shown. Kellie did a nice job too. I need to hear new songs from her.

  10. Love Kellie. She has done all right for herself. :) If Carrie is Queen, Kelly is the Princess. I actually prefer Kellie.

  11. Thanks so much for posting this. JTTW/HGTA would have been fantastic but I wouldn’t have complained if they had aired Paradise City either.
