Without the over-the-top kookiness Jerry Lewis brought to the MDA telethon year after year, it’s a pretty boring affair. Our favorite Idol exec, Nigel Lythgoe did a decent enough job as co-host, but you know…zzzz.

MDA was wise enough to include a tribute to Jerry at the beginning of the telethon. Co-hosts Nancy O’Dell, Jann Carl, Alison Sweeney and Idol exec, Nigel Lythgoe offered personal anecdotes about Jerry.

No wonder the Muscular Dystrophy Association was quick to ditch longtime chairman and host, Jerry Lewis after he slammed American Idol and other reality shows at the Television Critics Association press tour a couple of weeks ago.

MDA has issued a press release announcing their annual Labor Day telethon, and their are Idols all over it.

Jennifer Lopez Has Not Signed Her Idol Contract Yet

According to Jacob Wieselman of the Insider, who tweeted from the SYTYCD final tonight, “Jennifer Lopez is NOT officially signed on for #Idol season 11 according to Nigel Lythgoe. “The contract has not been signed, ” he tells me.”

Nigel announced on the Ryan Seacrest radio show on Wednesday that all three judges, including Jennifer Lopez, would be returning to American Idol.

Nigel Lythgoe Wants to Change American Idol Voting System

Nigel Lythgoe met with advertisers in New York City today, and Zap2it.com caught up with him to discuss American Idol and the current season of So You Think You Think You Can Dance which has its Season finale Thursday August 11.

Nigel wants to change the Idol voting system to “one device, one vote”–whatever that means. This isn’t the first time Nigel has mentioned changing the voting. He’s also expressed an interest in allowing the judges more control over who gets sent home.
