Carrie Underwood Was Considered for The View!

American Idol alum and country superstar, Carrie Underwood, as a permanent panelist on the ABC daytime talk show The View? According to Variety, ABC pursued Carrie for the job!

The View underwent a complete overhaul at the end of last season.  According to Variety, the search for new panelists which took place over the summer was fraught with tension and chaos. It was late in this muddled process when The View producers reached out  to Carrie, even though “the country star would be expensive, lives in Nashville and doesn’t publicly speak about her political beliefs.”

ABC finally offered a seat to Republican strategist, Nicole Wallace on Sept 3, reports Varietym just 12 days before the season premiere. (Really? Carrie was being considered for the “conservative” spot?) Actress, Rosie Perez, was also a last minute choice.  It was announced late spring that controversial former co-host, Rosie O’Donnell, would be joining moderator, Whoopi Goldberg on the panel.

In the report, Variety outlines the the turmoil at the ABC veteran daytime talker. Despite the overhaul, which replaced Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy with new panelists, the ratings have remained stagnant.

The View has suffered from “too many cooks in the kitchen” according to the report, with executives coming and going from staff since the shakeup began.  Starting today, the show will “be part of the non-fiction branch of programming within ABC News.”  This move puts the show under the aegis of  ABC News president, James Goldston, the man who headed up a successful revamp of Good Morning America.

Can you imagine Carrie Underwood on the panel of The View? I can’t imagine she would entertain any offer that would necessitate a move away from Nashville, where her husband still plays hockey. Also, her music career has ALWAYS been a priority, with other side projects, like acting and modeling, a distant second. I also can’t imagine her weighing in on controversial political subjects on a daily basis.

I have a feeling that after ABC reached out to her, Carrie politely declined.
