Carrie Underwood Was Considered for The View!

American Idol alum and country superstar, Carrie Underwood, as a permanent panelist on the ABC daytime talk show The View? According to Variety, ABC pursued Carrie for the job!

The View underwent a complete overhaul at the end of last season.  According to Variety, the search for new panelists which took place over the summer was fraught with tension and chaos. It was late in this muddled process when The View producers reached out  to Carrie, even though “the country star would be expensive, lives in Nashville and doesn’t publicly speak about her political beliefs.”

ABC finally offered a seat to Republican strategist, Nicole Wallace on Sept 3, reports Varietym just 12 days before the season premiere. (Really? Carrie was being considered for the “conservative” spot?) Actress, Rosie Perez, was also a last minute choice.  It was announced late spring that controversial former co-host, Rosie O’Donnell, would be joining moderator, Whoopi Goldberg on the panel.

In the report, Variety outlines the the turmoil at the ABC veteran daytime talker. Despite the overhaul, which replaced Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy with new panelists, the ratings have remained stagnant.

The View has suffered from “too many cooks in the kitchen” according to the report, with executives coming and going from staff since the shakeup began.  Starting today, the show will “be part of the non-fiction branch of programming within ABC News.”  This move puts the show under the aegis of  ABC News president, James Goldston, the man who headed up a successful revamp of Good Morning America.

Can you imagine Carrie Underwood on the panel of The View? I can’t imagine she would entertain any offer that would necessitate a move away from Nashville, where her husband still plays hockey. Also, her music career has ALWAYS been a priority, with other side projects, like acting and modeling, a distant second. I also can’t imagine her weighing in on controversial political subjects on a daily basis.

I have a feeling that after ABC reached out to her, Carrie politely declined.

  1. Yea…..no, this would never have worked, and I can’t imagine Carrie seriously considered it. She has a college degree in broadcast journalism, but she’s shown no interest in speaking up hot button issues other than the “ag gag” bill in Tennessee and issues of animal cruelty. Carrie+soundbytes on hot button issues would’ve been a bad mix. She gets enough grief for being an ethical vegan who’s not here to impose her lifestyle on other people.

Carrie’s music career’s always been her top professional priority like MJ mentioned, I don’t think there was any way she was going to commit to a NYC-based gig, she’s shown no interest in being on TV on a daily basis like that, and honestly…..the gig has “no” written all over it. It was a total reach for ABC Daytime, at least at this point in Carrie’s career.

But it’s always interesting to get a peek into the offers she gets sometimes.

  2. “…honestly…..the gig has “no” written all over it.”

Many, many reasons why that’s true, not the least of which is the concept of the about-to-be baby and moving to a NYC base after she just moved and started the family plan…but the big one for me would be, I like Carrie, and I cannot deal with that show.

  3. That would actually make more sense on every level (including Kellie’s ability to hang in a soundbyte environment), and Kellie also has ties to ABC via Dancing With The Stars. But, I don’t have a high opinion of the show and it might be too much to ask of Kellie to rescue it.

  4. I can’t see it. First of all, Carrie isn’t super conservative, as far as I can tell. Secondly, she lives in Nashville and between her being pregnant and her career I can’t see her having the time to fly to New York every week. Lastly, I can’t see her being all that interested in debating hot topics on a weekly basis.

  5. I’m surprised they even went there. I still think they should have gone after a younger co-host though, its not entirely impressive watching four women who mostly agree especially when they fall between 40-50. Throw in a younger woman.

  6. If anything Carrie has come out on many issues as being quite liberal.

  7. I can’t imagine Carrie would even have the slightest interest with a bunch of old hags!

  8. “Can you imagine Carrie Underwood on the panel of The View?”

    No.

  9. LOL to people who thought Rosie O’Donnell would bring in the viewers. Don’t know one person who is a fan of her.

  10. Why even bring this up now? It sounds like the kind of thing where they knew they had no chance of getting her but would leak out to create buzz. Now that it’s a moot point it’s just a reporter needing something to write about.
By the way Grant Gustin aka Evil Gay Warbler Sebastian on GLEE! turned The Flash taped an appearance today to air tomorrow Halloween. Tweeted that he’s wearing a cape.

  11. I wouldn’t want to see either of them wasting their time on such junk TV.

  12. Of the many people I thought might be a decent fit for the new View, Carrie wasn’t even on the radar. Were they courting a more country music audience? Or what? I just can’t picture Carrie in that role.

  13. Carrie seems pretty liberal tbh. Kellie would be fantastic though because she’s so likeable and honestly she is made for TV. Carrie is far too big for The View but this show could definitely also help boost Kellie’s career and she could still tour in the summer when The View is on hiatus.

  14. This makes zero sense to me! Carrie is at the top of her career so of course she wouldn’t consider such an offer.

  15. Avoiding any of the politicial issues and whatnot — the only explanation I can think of is that Carrie was to fill the Elisabeth Hasselback role in the sense of personally pleasant younger woman with long blonde hair, kids (or baby on the way / rumored / when-will-she thing to speculate about), and married to a sports guy.

  16. Evidently the show is having bad ratings with the new format. Maybe they just want to leak various rumors about new hosts / guests to get some buzz.

We have never seen that before ~ :)
