American Idol contestant jailed for 70 years for child porn possession – Brandon Cox, who appeared on the 2012 series of American Idol, was found guilty in January of seven counts of possessing obscene material featuring children under the age of 17. At the time, prosecutors stated they would be asking for the maximum sentence, with each count carrying a potential 10 year sentence. Now, a judge has sentenced Cox to 70 years in jail after 157 images and videos of child sex abuse were found on his computer. In 2012, Brandon auditioned for Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler on American Idol, singing slowed-down versions of Adele’s Rolling In The Deep and Lady Gaga’s Edge Of Glory. He was awarded a Golden Ticket to advance to the next stages in Hollywood, but was eliminated in the group round. – Read more at the Daily Star

What Lauren Alaina’s Surprise Number One Song Says About Country Radio – or the month of April thus far, there were two momentous occasions in country radio: Luke Bryan made history by taking six singles off one album to the top of the Billboard Country Airplay chart and, with “Road Less Traveled,” Lauren Alaina became the first female solo artist since Kelsea Ballerini last September to have a Number One song. Both are major achievements, but it’s telling that the record Bryan beat was actually his own: he, and other male artists like him, have been so dominant in the past decade that they’re literally competing against themselves. Bryan staring down his wax doppelgänger at this month’s ACM Awards was a funny joke, but, all things considered, a figurine of Luke Bryan probably has a better chance of claiming a Number One song than any given female country artist. – Read more at Rolling Stone

It was 90’s Night at the Exit/In in Nashville with Lauren Alaina, Martina McBride

Lauren Alaina: Not Afraid of “Road Less Traveled” – “It feels very weird, almost surreal. I have been waiting five years for this,” Alaina told Billboard Country Update. “I handed in this song four years ago, so seeing it rise to the top feels so good. “My goal was Top 20 at first, and when it got into the Top 10, I wanted to go all the way,” she said. “Thanks so much to everyone for sticking with me this long.” – Read more at CMT

Singer-Songwriter JENA IRENE ASCIUTTO Opens Up About Her Newest Single ‘Floating Down The River’, Her Biggest Influences and More! – Not if you count the idol tour after I was on the show. We did a 40 show US tour, and I don’t think I can compare it to a regular touring artist. Our buses were split between girls and boys, and the traveling was by far my favorite part of it. I didn’t have a full on set, I just did a couple song in a row to feature the highlighted cover songs that I sang that season. That was my least favorite part of it- I wanted to showcase my own music while I had the chance to be in front of that many people. Overall, I had a lot of fun- but wish I wasn’t under so many fuckin’ rules! (Laughter) – Read more at All Access

Meet Malik Davage, the DC Native Who Was Just on The Voice – Malik Davage, the 23-year-old DC native who brought The Voice watchers to tears during his blind audition last month, was bumped from NBC’s musical-competition series Monday after losing to Mark Isaiah during the “battle round.” Even though he narrowly missed the live-performance round, which starts next week, Davage was still upbeat when Washingtonian caught him on the phone. “There’s no love lost in that situation,” he says, “I’m just thankful I was able to showcase my talent on a stage like that.” – Read more at Washingtonian

Fifth Harmony Isn’t Slowing Down – And all those good vibes are sure to come through in their new music. Coming off of last summer’s “Work From Home,” 5H have proven themselves as hitmakers and are now taking more creative control of their sound. The group’s moving full speed ahead after Camila Cabello, one of its original members, bounced in late 2016. Their next music will have “some R&B tones,” Dinah told us, and will hit on each of the girls’ favorite genres, with overtones of girl power and female empowerment throughout. – Read more at Galore Mag
