Bits and Pieces

American Idol Rewind #3 New Syndicated  Program

Looks like we’ll get to relive the battle of Ruben Studdard  and Clay Aiken  all over again  this September.  According to this article, the syndicated program, American Idol Rewind, which re-ran  Season 1 spliced with  some new footage,  is a ratings success:

The show, which launched in the fourth quarter, combines already aired footage with new content, and is the No. 3 new syndicated show of the season.

American Idol Rewind averaged a 2.7 household rating, beating the much-lauded Rachael Ray by 0.6. It airs over the weekend on participating channels.

There is a gotcha:

However, a Magna Global USA report released last year found that just over three-quarters of all shows that went into syndication since 1987 – 51 shows – witnessed immediate ratings declines on their network runs the next season.

Mmmm….Chicken

Keep your eyes peeled during the American Idol premier on Tuesday.   KFC is sponsoring a contest:

Viewers who tune into American Idol’s January 17 season premiere will catch more than missed musical notes and cantankerous comments from the judges. For one night only, KFC will offer these viewers the chance to win with the brand’s latest television commercial for its popular Buffalo KFC Snacker(R) sandwich. Instead of the Buffalo KFC Snacker commercial currently airing on TV screens nationwide, KFC will run a slightly different version of the spot–one time only– during the show’s January 17 season premiere. After the commercial airs on January 17, the first 10, 000 viewers to log onto http://www.kfc.com/ and correctly identify the difference between the two commercials will win. Each of the 10, 000 sharp-eyed Snacker fans will receive a $1 KFC gift check to enjoy a complimentary Buffalo Snacker (tax may be extra) at any participating KFC location.

I wonder what kind of questions they’ll ask when viewers log on to retrieve their prize.   The contest looks like a market research opportunity…

I Did Not Know That

David Beckham, famous soccer player, now with the Spanish club, Real Madrid, has signed a deal to play soccer in the US.   He’s signed a 5 year deal worth a purported  $250M in salary and commercial endorsements  to play with the Los Angeles Galaxy.   Why do I bring this up on an Idol blog?   Idol producer, Simon Fuller is Beckham’s manager:

Beckham’s deal was negotiated over 10 days by major entertainment-industry players Simon Fuller, creator of “American Idol, ” and Creative Artists Agency, home to some of Hollywood’s biggest actors.

Fuller manages both Beckham and his pop-star wife, who hasn’t hidden her desire to launch a Hollywood career.

Maybe She Just Needed Her Morning Coffee

One last bit.   This video  of Paula Abdul being interviewed on a local Seattle morning show has been making its way around the net.   She looks a little wild-eyed and appears to be having a little trouble articulating her thoughts.  Hmmm…  I have to admit, I have a soft spot for loopy Paula.   The show would not be the same without her.  Maybe this  Bravo docu-series will throw a little light on the real Paula Abdul:

Straight up, Bravo says it’s making a TV series about the life of  Paula Abdul. Hey Paula set to debut sometime later this year, will follow Abdul, 44, as she films a new season of Fox’s American Idol, works on Bratz: The Movie and develops her own perfume and cosmetics line.

Speaking of loopy, check this  out.   EEP.
