Ariana Grande Apologizes for “I Hate America” Video

This is such a weird story. Pop star, Ariana Grande, was caught on tape licking a donut, while muttering “I Hate America.” It’s the “I Hate America” part that’s enraged the twitterverse, not surprisingly. So naturally, the singer had to issue an apology.

According to TMZ. Arina and her backup dancer boyfriend were playing “Truth or Dare” inside Wolfee Donuts in Lake Elsinore, CA on Saturday. The challenge was to lick a donut they didn’t buy without being caught.

It’s hard to tell if tongues actually made contact, but it was definitely close enough to squick out the employees who worked the counter. Particularly since Ariana pulled the stunt when no one was looking. They would have thrown out the contaminated donuts if they knew.

After the internet blew up with criticisms hurled at the pop singer, she issued an apology today.

“I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country. What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words. As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole. The fact that the United States has one of the highest child obesity rate in the world frustrates me. We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies. We need to demand more from our food industry. However I should have known better in how I expressed myself; and with my new responsibility to others as a public figure I will strive to be better. As for why I cannot be at the MLB show, I have had emergency oral surgery and due to recovery I cannot attend the show. I hope to make it up to all those fans soon. That being said let me once again apologize if I have offended anyone with my poor choice of words.”

“As an advocate for healthy eating…” after she’s in a donut shop BUYING DONUTS–for consumption, I presume. To be honest, I don’t want to think about what else could possibly happen to those jelly donuts, but I digress. Really. She looked so social concerned in that moment, as she and her boyfriend behaved with all the maturity of 14 year olds on an after middle school date. Sit yourself down, girl.  And forget what she said. I was more offended by her licking donuts other people would buy. Gross. Where’s that apology?

Earlier today, it was announced that Demi Lovato would replace Ariana as performer at the MLB All-Star game, hence the “emergency surgery” explanation. Sure, Jan.
