Ahead of playing a show for the grand reopening of the 7,000-seat Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu on Dec. 9, American Idol winner and runner-up Iam Tongi and Megan Danielle dropped by the Sunrise morning show to give a special performance.

The two, who competed earlier this year on season 21, sang a sweet duet of the Larry Fleet gospel tune, “Where I Find God.” The Voice fans may recall that Team Gwen Stefani singer BIAS covered the song during the Playoffs a few weeks ago. Both singers have shared about their faith in God. Iam is not only the first Pacific Islander to win American Idol, but also the first member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Megan hopes to pursue a career in worship music, like her Idol, Lauren Daigle.

After a bit of a false start, the two sing a heartfelt rendition of the song. On social media, Megan hinted that she and Iam would sing separate sets during the concert, but MAY perform a duet together. Perhaps they previewed a song they will sing live on stage Saturday night.

Iam and Megan competed in the Top 26 round at the Disney Aulani resort earlier this year.

Iam and Megan are excited to be reunited on “the islands.” The singers competed at the Disney Aulani Resort for the Top 26 round in February. Megan shares during the interview that it was her first time in Hawaii. “It’s good to be back,” she states.

As far as the reunion is concerned, Iam says, “It’s fun every time we hang out.” Megan adds with a laugh, “He makes fun of me every single time!” But then qualifies, “It’s always a pleasure.” Iam plans to have “a lot of fun” on stage and hopes the fans buy tickets.

Both singers are working on new music

And new music? Iam is working on a lot of new music. He’s excited for it to come out, but he’s not sure when that will be. Megan adds, “Same exact page. Back and forth from Nashville, and just trying to get an album out.” In a recent interview with People magazine, Iam talked about how love for country music came from his late father. He could see himself releasing a hybrid of Island and Country music. Like Megan, he has been back and forth to Nashville writing and recording music. Head over to his Youtube page to watch his series of covers, including songs by Morgan Wallen and Jimmy Buffett.

Looking ahead to 2024, aside from releasing music, Megan hopes to “learn more about myself.” She adds, “I’m still young. I have so much to learn.” Iam’s goals are similar–he wants to get music out, tour more and have fun.

After Saturday night’s concert, Iam will continue with two more shows on December 12 and 13 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to assist those affected by the devastating wildfires in Maui.
