American Idol’s Brooke White Explores Country in “Calico” Music Video

American Idol season 7 alum Brooke White has dropped the music video for her latest single, which is the title track for her forthcoming album, Calico, due out October 4 via Nevado Music / June Baby Records.

Calico is short for “California Country.” As Brooke relates in the song’s lyrics, her “roots run deep in the dirt of LA.” Her affinity for country music is tied up with the city she loves. In the song, she namechecks the Eagles and Carole King as influences, and calls Los Angeles “the wild wild west, where the weather is best.” The singer/songwriter told The Boot in a recent interview that the track “sets the scene for the whole record.”

Additionally, the song is “about how we make plans, and those plans change, but it works out — sometimes even for the better,” she said. “That’s happened so many times in my life, from ending up on American Idol to having to wait for babies, to making the record how and where I did.”

She explained the music video’s concept to The Boot:

“In the video, I take a walk smack dab in the heart of Hollywood, passing through the wild Wild West, with unexpected characters, and exchanging hats with friends and strangers along the way. [It’s] a symbol of connection, and how ‘We can all get together down in Calico.'”
