The latest American Idol XIII promo features gushing quotes from the usual media suspects. They didn’t quote me, and I’m so insulted! Just kidding.
The blurbs frame the new season as returning to its glory days of yore, in the days when the singing show was the only kid on the block and its yearly return was a major event and appointment television.
“…focusing on its original roots.”
“Fan-Freaking-Tastic!”
“…the most entertained we’ve been with Idol…”
“The judges chemistry is evident.”
“…this season has the potential to be lucky number 13.”

The new producers have a simple message they keep hammering home. Forget Season 12. The production strayed last season from the formula that worked. Wipe the slate clean. Idol is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever.
The message may at least prompt viewers to tune in and check out the new judges. Keeping those viewers will depend on if the talent is compelling and the middle rounds are engaging. Try not to blow it, this time, producers.
