Last Thursday, American Idol was in competition with a low rated ABC miniseries, Madoff. This week, the popular series, Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal returned to the schedule, so it’s not surprising that Idol ratings dipped 2/10ths in the 18-49 demo.
The first hour, Idol placed 3rd behind Grey’s Anatomy and The Big Bang Theory/Life in Pieces (CBS). In the 3rd half hour, Idol climbed into the #2 spot behind Scandal and finally to #1 during the last half hour.
For what it’s worth, all 3 Shonda Rhimes produced dramas, Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder returned lower than their fall averages. The Big Bang Theory was up a tenth.
