It’s Classic Rock Week on American Idol. But the only catch? The finalists are not allowed to sing ballads! So, this will be interesting, to say the least. Here are my picks for the Top 7. What are yours?
Janelle Arthur – “Love is a Rose” by Linda Ronstadt/Neil Young – Such a lovely song–Janelle should break out her guitar again for this one.
Candice Glover – “The Acid Queen” by the Who – Well, you know, Tina Turner sang this song in the movie. I think it could work for the fierce Ms. Glover.
Kree Harrison – “Somebody to Love” by Jefferson Airplane – I choose a powerful rock song that would give Kree the opportunity to let loose.
Amber Holcomb – “Beat of Burden” by The Rolling Stones – It’s a mid-tempo song. The right arrangement could give Amber a chance to show off her vocals while escaping ballad hell.
Angie Miller – “Barracuda” by Heart – This tune could hit Angie’s sweet spot, and possibly bring back some of her early luster.
Lazaro Arbos – “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor – Mostly because I think it would be hilarious. It was hard to choose for Lazaro this week. I predict he will have a really difficult time with this theme.
Burnell Taylor – “Somebody to Love” by Queen – Burnell could pull off a soulful version of this classic.
