The Top 3 song list for Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery and Haley Reinhart is more than half-way filled out (Thanks to Haley’s parents) nevertheless, I think there’s still some room for speculation here.
What songs should fill out Scotty and Lauren’s song list? Any speculation on what Jimmy has up his sleeve for Scotty and Lauren? I have to say, he done good picking a song for Haley. Stevie Nicks is right in Haley’s sweet spot. In fact, Haley has an opportunity to make a HUGE splash tonight. If she nails that Led Zepplin song? She’s a major contender.
This might be the week for Lauren to sing some pop country. “15” by Taylor Swift would be a good pick for her. She’s best when she highlights her sassy side. She can belt a ballad too, but her voice on videos from this weekend’s home visit revealed her vocals to be in rough shape. I hope she’s gotten a lot of vocal rest, because tonight is CRUCIAL for her. I consider her the underdog at this point. She’s got to come out of the gate slammin’ if she wants to stay in the competition.
It would be easy for Scotty to coast at this point, as he appears to have the contest in the bag…but that would be a huge mistake. He needs to step it up and show us what he’s got. More than Lauren or Haley–Scotty would be wise to step out of his comfort zone (traditional country) if he wants to make an impact tonight. I hope Jimmy picks a song that is OUT of Scotty’s wheelhouse. In fact, I would not be surprised if he does. Remember that Jimmy wanted Scotty to sing Nilsson’s “Everybody’s Talking” and Scotty shot him down for more of the same ole same ole? I’ll be very interested to see what Jimmy hands over to Scotty.
