Adam Lambert on The View

In his interview segment on The View, which aired today, Adam repeated some of the stuff he told the Early Show:   His racy performance moves were done in the heat of the moment, It’s not his job to babysit people’s kids, etc. Also, he stressed that he’s not obligated to cater to the family-friendly Idol crowd now that the contest is over.

Game of Thrones Episode 2: The Lost...
Game of Thrones Episode 2: The Lost Lords Review

He’s learned from the experience, and will be careful to keep his rehearsal and live performances identical.

The View ladies were very solicitous–they didn’t grill him at all. Sherri asked a few probing questions–specifically about the Idol crowd expecting one performance but getting another. On the other hand, Elisabeth was surprisingly supportive– she felt the AMA performance was appropriate for the 11 pm hour and called Adam “a really nice guy.”

Unfortunately,   Whoopie was in the UK at the time of the taping.

Sorry to say, no throwdowns! But there was lots of pimping of the album. Everyone in the audience got a free CD. Adam also got the opportunity to promote his fundraising for DonorsChoose.org.

After a break, Adam performed “Whataya Want From Me” and like all his other TV performances of the tune–it was fabulous.

FYI: Adam’s Larry King Live appearance, orginally set for tonight has been CANCELED. An appearance on E’s Chelsea Lately show on December 16 has been added to the schedule…

UPDATE: Tweeted from Larry King Live: “We’re hoping @AdamLambert will reschedule with us. He said he’s cutting back on interviews so he can focus on his music again.”

Seriously, time to stop talking about the AMA’s. It’s already redundant…

  1. He’s on now. Very polite interview – Elizabeth brought up Adam working with Donors Choice

  2. All of the ladies were totally supportive. Even more than I had imagined. But really, how could they resist??

  3. AWE!! Commercial:) He’s doing great and I’m impressed with Elisabeth today;) I think all the ladies like him…’cept maybe Sheri.

  4. That was awesome when Sherri put it out there that “she was doing those things” (ref the BJ) with her husband.

  5. Thank you ladies of the View for “getting over it”. I’m sure their will be plenty of people here that will give them a hard time for “flipping” or “being nice to his face”, but I don’t care. They were great with him and it is the start of everyone moving on. Hopefully this will be one of the last times this has to be rehashed now and we can get on with the music.

Now, if they turn around and slam him again tomorrow – I’ll take back what I just said. Something tells me though they really have gotten over it.

  6. Adam and the band sound great here. But is that a wig Lisa is wearing??

And giving away copies of the album to the studio audience doesn’t help sales – LOL. (Ellen did the same thing when Kris, Adam and Allison were all on her show)

  7. I can’t believe that the cable guy just showed up and disconnected my internet just one line into WWFM. Arghhhhhh….. Hope the video is up soon. The first verse sounded AMAZING!!

  8. WIN!

The ladies of The View liked Adam. The audience liked Adam.

Speilberg evidently really liked Adam. Rob Marshall wants to work with Adam. Travis from SYTYCD wants to choreograph for Adam.

    Resistance is futile.

  9. The performance was beautiful. (I didn’t like the stage lights of yellow and red…would have preferred shades of blue.)

  10. Wow!!Elizabeth appears to have converted. She seems to genuinely like him and kissed him at the end of his performance. Yeah! One more fan….

I agree with Whoopi that it’s ABC that have been driving this story’ ¦

I agree with you saga (and whoopi I guess). More children (gasp) have been “exposed” to this performance because the story has been dragged out by ABC. The performance alone probably would have gone virtually unoticed by most the children everyone is trying so hard to protect. Except now that ABC is carrying on like they are it keeps getting more and more attention. Seems like if they didn’t like the initial exposure, they should just let it die already.

Beautiful sound to that performance and the set looked great.

  12. WIN!

The ladies of The View liked Adam. The audience liked Adam.

Speilberg evidently really liked Adam. Rob Marshall wants to work with Adam. Travis from SYTYCD wants to choreograph for Adam.

The tide seems to be turning. Amen.

  13. I like it a lot. The ladies were very nice with Adam and he was charming.
The performance was really good too.

    Excellent!

  14. He sounded fantastic and band was amazing. I love the stage setup with the neon lights. The interview was total win. I have to give Barbara credit she has been supportive and even defending of him for awhile now. Adam handled himself with the interview extremely well. The dreidel comment was priceless. He is always good at interview but this was one of his best. IMHO

  15. The ladies of The View liked Adam. The audience liked Adam.

Speilberg evidently really liked Adam. Rob Marshall wants to work with Adam. Travis from SYTYCD wants to choreograph for Adam.

    Resistance is futile.

Add to that DiorMen sent out a tweet this morning asking if everyone thought Adam would be a good rep for Dior Jeans!

  16. It is almost better to have been a fallen angel and then redeemed than to have never fallen at all.

Which is worse, to have offended some at the AMA’s or to be branded forever with the squeaky clean Idol image?

  17. “”The performance alone probably would have gone virtually unoticed by most the children everyone is trying so hard to protect. Except now the ABC is carrying on like they are it keeps getting more and more attention. Seems like if they didn’t like the initial exposure””

Thats what I have been saying, my kids got to stay up late to watch and didnt notice all of that, they were DANCING to him – my son saw the kiss out of the corner of his eye and thought it was a girl, they didnt see the crotch thing (we are in west coast and it was cut) but did afterwards because the frightened adults played and talked about it over and over and over until eventually they heard all about it a few weeks later!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Here is the tweet from DiorMen:

Who think @adamlambert is a good choise for an ad campaign ? Is he the archetype of a modern man and masculinity ?

Of course the responses are numerous and all supportive.

  19. Wow. What a lovefest that was. Adam didn’t really have to defend himself because BW, Joy and Elizabeth were all jumping in and doing it for him. BW wanted to know what the big deal was, Joy thought the reaction to his performance was homophobic and Elizabeth agreed that it was the parents’ responsibility to monitor what their kids were watching.

Laughs and kisses galore. He looked and sounded fantastic. Great show.

  20. Wow that bright set really distracted me, I kept thinking till half was thru, why are they still putting AMA’s on there till I realized that it said ADAM, LOL, great performance, and I think Lizzy was starry-eyed over Adam, I think she kissed him twice. It was all good, and smiles all around. Great exposure. How could anyone say bad stuff about him, and the song sounded great. Only sad about no Tommy interaction, why is that? I wanna see more of him than that mop on his face, and still wonder how he plays any holds that huge guitar up.

  21. LKL was probably canceled because Adam’s people said ENUF already! Adam has ‘splained this to death. Move on.

  22. Not surprised that the women of The View liked him. Adam is a very likable guy. In general, the people who do well on AI are very likable, so this really isn’t a surprise.

  23. Thank you, Barbara Walters. Wow! Very pleasantly surprised. Interview and performance were classic Adam. And a set with Adam’s name in orange and yellow neon – totally unexpected. Loved that Adam helping to raise $250K for http://www.donorschoose.org was mentioned. Also liked that his parents were acknowledged for their unwaivering support. Think this is a win-win-win for Adam, Barbara Walters and ABC.

  24. I wonder about the Oscar rumor. We know TFM cannot be nominated, so why would he perform. And where did they hear that rumor?

  25. I caught the singing live on ustream (WOWZA with the set) but was called into a meeting right before the interview aired (AGHH!!) so I missed it.

I hate it when work interferes with watching Adam!!

So, where can I catch the interview now? Anywhere online yet? It sounds like it was pretty positive and upbeat and he got some love from the ladies. Thank goodnes! I so hope that he’s turned the corner on the AMA performance and can now focus on the music.

I love seeing Twitter postings where people say things like: “I feel guilty admitting it, but I really liked Adam Lambert’s performance on the View!”

One at a time. One at a time, BB. Yes, “resistance is futile.” Yes, it is.

  26. He’s on now. Very polite interview ‘“ Elizabeth brought up Adam working with Donors Choice

This is one time where twitter was a positive because a lot of fans sent messages to Elizabeth asking her to mention it. And she did! $250,000 dollars raised for charity; 250,000 albums sold. I like the symmetry of it!

  27. Didn’t quite catch the question/comment that had Adam respond about his dreidl? LOL.

    Can someone fill me in?

  28. Wonderful! Simply Wonderful!
Lol at Elisabeth being all fangirly! She was clasping her hands in delight! She even had the overbite smile going on. hmmmm Where are the body language experts when you need them?

I so agree with you. Though I am super happy with how great this went. I agree that with a few exceptions most of the contestants on AI are very likable. I know from Season 8 I like all of them except 1 (no its not Danny)

  30. I wonder about the Oscar rumor. We know TFM cannot be nominated, so why would he perform. And where did they hear that rumor?

Sometimes don’t people perform nominated songs that they didn’t sing in the production? Maybe because the original singer singer isn’t available?

  31. so why would he perform

Maybe he will perform a medley of all the nominated songs?!!!!!

The Queen of Wishful thinking I am!!

  32. “”And giving away copies of the album to the studio audience doesn’t help sales ‘“ LOL. (Ellen did the same thing when Kris, Adam and Allison were all on her show):”””

yes it does, they are deducted from inventory and whatever amount is given out is added as a sale, not big but it does help

  33. I know from Season 8 I like all of them except 1 (no its not Danny)

    Sc*tt? :)

  34. I wonder about the Oscar rumor. We know TFM cannot be nominated, so why would he perform. And where did they hear that rumor?

I wouldn’t take too much stock in this rumor. Adam S. (who is working on the Oscars) from SYTYCD tweeted who would people like to see on the Oscars and Adam was one of the top requested people. Along with The Twilight crew. So it is just that he was one of the most requested to Adam S tweet

Of course I would love it and I was one of the people who tweeted him back requesting Adam. Hey you never know!

  35. About the dreidel, I think Adam was responding to being a good jewish boy (not sure?). He replied yes it’s just that my dreidel spins the other way or something…

  36. saga, this morning on Fox news I saw host mentioning Adam singing TfM on Oscars.
Now I’m really confused. I thought that song is not eligible for Oscars.
    Any other rumours?

  37. I wonder about the Oscar rumor. We know TFM cannot be nominated, so why would he perform. And where did they hear that rumor?

Again, Adam Shanksman tweeted who did peeps want to see perform on the Oscars. Again, overwhelming response was Adam. I think that was yesterday or the day before.

I know from Season 8 I like all of them except 1 (no its not Danny)

I neither confirm or deny that answer.

  39. Add to that DiorMen sent out a tweet this morning asking if everyone thought Adam would be a good rep for Dior Jeans!

Hells yeah! BB can wear some jeans! They look good in all the right places!

My dreidel spins the other way?

LMAO! That boy is so quick! He really is the perfect interview!

  40. I wonder about the Oscar rumor. We know TFM cannot be nominated, so why would he perform. And where did they hear that rumor?

I suspect they probably heard it the same way we heard it months ago. … I don’t think there are any crack research staffs running around this show making sure that they have updated information! They pretty much run on the fumes of the fumes of old gossip, as far as I can tell.

I would like to be surprised about this. But since the song isn’t eligible for an Oscar, it would be pretty strange for someone to sing it. … The deceased writer of it isn’t particularly germane to the *film* community, is she? (I dunno about that … just asking…)

  41. I wonder about the Oscar rumor. We know TFM cannot be nominated, so why would he perform. And where did they hear that rumor?

Sometimes don’t people perform nominated songs that they didn’t sing in the production? Maybe because the original singer singer isn’t available?

Yes, it is true that often the Oscar producers wind up with someone other than the original recording artist singing a nominated song. Sometimes, this really bugs me, unless the stand in is someone I really like!

However, I don’t think this is an industry rumor. I think it stems from fan wishful thinking. It’s been tossed around quite a bit, and probably started with the Shankmen tweeting and responses. But, at this point, I don’t think there’s any reason to believe it will actually happen.

  42. I agree that cancelling Larry King was the right move – he will go on Chelsea and be funny and bright and lovable – Larry would ask him all those endless and dreary questions that have been asked ad nauseam.

  43. I watched The View via the live streaming here in the UK and thought it was a great interview and fab performance .. look forward to seeing and hearing a clearer version when it’s loaded to youtube (fingers crossed).

a nice mix of both serious and fun stuff in the interview … they all seemed a bit smitten .. and who wouldn’t when Adam was wearing those fabulous pants.

Loved the performance set and Adam sounded great

I’m puzzled about the Academy Awards thing too . hope it’s true …. even if he has to do a routine like Hugh Jackman’s last year … lol

  44. A dreidel is a little spinning top with four sides that’s used in a Hanukkah gambling game. The four sides have letters on them that together symbolize something like “a great miracle happened here.”

    Here you go: http://www.jewfaq.org/dreidel/index.htm
    Virtual dreidel game.

  45. Big jump for WWFM this morning on iTunes chart. It was at #153 before his interview/performance on The View aired — it’s now at #126

  46. I suspect they probably heard it the same way we heard it months ago. ‘ ¦ I don’t think there are any crack research staffs running around this show making sure that they have updated information! They pretty much run on the fumes of the fumes of old gossip, as far as I can tell.

Maybe, but two mentions in the space of 2 or 3 days? And not just some internet rumor but both on network television? Too much of a coincidence for there not to be some substance there.

I’m wondering if perhaps the producers or whoever haven’t been pushing the song’s eligibility behind the scenes. It seems there have been many exceptions made in the past so perhaps they pulled together a persuasive argument and changed some minds.

  47. Maybe, but two mentions in the space of 2 or 3 days? And not just some internet rumor but both on network television? Too much of a coincidence for there not to be some substance there.

    That would be nice!

I’m inherently skeptical of the use of unsubstantiated rumor by tv news, the entertainment press, etc, though!

  48. Loved Adam today…so smart, witty, HOT & amazing voice…truly undeniable talent.

The liner seemed to be toned down, which is good. Wish he’d go a little lighter on the pancake makeup though. He doesn’t need it.

  49. My dreidel spins the other way?

LMAO! That boy is so quick! He really is the perfect interview!

Same here, I just love Adam in interviews, and for the record, this interview is perfect, mention of Adam is about music first and formost, career vs Idol, charity work, excellent!
the deidel joke is to die for. I love Joy , Barbara, and Liz and Sherri are such fangirls, lol

  50. Big jump for WWFM this morning on iTunes chart. It was at #153 before his interview/performance on The View aired ‘” it’s now at #126

All right! Good Itunes news for both Adam *and* Kris today…. Maybe the public *does* like good singing performances when they hear them — Get some more tv appearances, guys! (And some for Allison, too, please.)

  51. Adam has such a great sense of humor. lol It was a great interview and the ladies really took to him. His performance was fabulous as well!

Larry King was never mentioned by Adam or his team and it was never on the official website. I wonder if this was just a rumor all this time?

  52. As far as the Oscar rumors go, I read back when this was first discussed that if the academy likes a particular song-and they love one with a backstory-they will “bend” the rules to get that song nominated. The only thing I have seen relative to it NOT being nominated are from people who are interpreting the rules strictly as they are written. I think we should just wait and see. When are the nominations announced?

  53. Win, win all around. Adam was great. It’s funny they pretty much laid out his talking points so all he had to do was agree and expound. Good job ladies. He sings the hell out of that song. He also looked incredible. I love the way he dresses.

I think that this is just the tip of the iceberg. Little by little those who are put off won’t be when they realize he’s just a sweet little Jewish boy whose dreidel just spins the other way. I mean really that is pretty much it. He’s not the big bad gay trying to convert your kids. He just a hella talented young man.

Glad Larry King was cancelled…..well the interview with LKL that is…..it wouldn’t have done anything good I don’t think. This interview should put a nail in it. Joy was right ABC is the one keeping it going. Maybe the Oscars will be an olive branch?

  54. Well, that was worth de-lurking for! What an awesome interview and performance by Adam! The ladies did love him, as we all knew they would, even Elisabeth. He is adorable and charming, and obviously Barbara was charmed the first time she met him and wanted him back! She was probably embarrassed at ABC and decided to step in. I have had a difficult time watching the View since last year because of Elisabeth’s ultra-conservative bent, especially since I rooted for her all during Survivor (I worked for her husband’s uncle at the time and he had us all watching! I guess I have less than six degrees of separation from Adam now—ha!). But she really was great to him. I am wondering if he did not explain privately about the “trolley stop,” so she realized it was staged and not really a big deal. Anyway, props to Barbara Walters and the View for giving Adam a forum to show himself as the true entertainer, gentleman, and lovely human being he is.

BTW–dhunken, suebrody, and Mary102… I love your posts!

  55. OMFG ADAM’S GUNNA BE ON CHELSEA LATELY!!!!!!! BEST DAY EVER!!!!!

LOL Duke, are ya’ excited? Chelsea’s is my favorite late night show. So, it’s nice for me to finally see Adam on a show I actually watch, instead of when I have to search through my 500 channels for an unfamiliar show that I’m only trying to catch because one of the AI kids are on.

  56. Big jump for WWFM this morning on iTunes chart. It was at #153 before his interview/performance on The View aired ‘” it’s now at #126

and it hasn’t even aired here on the west coast yet.

  57. Now we only need the Vevo performance and the NA from yday and it’s all good.

  58. O.K. and why was Adam’s appearance on Larry King Live, cancelled?!?!?!?!?!?!? Gee, enough with the cancellations, CNN is not owned by Disney/ABC, furthermore it would have been an interview, he would have not performed. Can someone please clarify why this was cancelled? Thank you.

I’m glad he’ll be on Chelsea Lately though.

  59. bradwalsh

@adamlambert dreidel dreidel dreidel, i made you out of gay

LOL. Today is so much win!

  60. Can someone please clarify why this was cancelled? Thank you.

No one knows. For all we know, Adam’s people could have cancelled it. Personally, I don’t think LKL is all that great an appearance for a singer. So, I just don’t think it’s any kind of loss.

  61. O.K. and why was Adam’s appearance on Larry King Live, cancelled?!?!?!?!?!?!? Gee, enough with the cancellations, CNN is not owned by Disney/ABC, furthermore it would have been an interview, he would have not performed. Can someone please clarify why this was canceled? Thank you.

A lot of stuff gets cancelled from LKL because if they can get a current newsmaker they dump whatever is previously scheduled. … But there’s speculation that maybe Adam’s team canceled it — or that it was never actually even scheduled!

I, for one, am thrilled that somebody, whoever, canceled it, since a) LK is a horrible horrible interviewer for musicians generally and Idols in particular, in my opinion; he is always clueless about who they are, doesn’t understand the questions he’s asking, etc; and b) the interview would have been yet another rehash of AMAs, period (since LK is incapable of asking about music and his show is not interested in it), and it would not have moved anything forward an inch.

So, a hurrah for the cancellation, from this viewer, anyway.

  62. Could Adam really be performing on the Oscars? Isn’t ABC the network that hosts the Oscars?

Can’t see this happening…but then, again, I could be wrong & keeping my fingers crossed that I am.

  63. This was a total win. Still laughing about the dreidel that spinned the other way!

  64. Don’t know if this has been posted yet, but it is a good review from the New York Times about Adam’s interview on The View:

    The New York Times

“Mr. Lambert was warmly received by ‘The View’ hosts, having appeared on Ms. Walters’s ‘Most Fascinating People’ special on Wednesday night. Ms. Hasselbeck called him ‘a good guy’ and Ms. Shepherd described him as ‘a cutie-patootie.’ When Ms. Behar told Mr. Lambert that he was ‘not exactly a nice Jewish boy,’ he replied: ‘The dreidel spins the other way.’

My favorite Adam quote from here on out!!

  65. I just quickly came here to see Adam on the View since I had to miss it today. I knew MJ would have it. Thanks, MJ! I loved the interview and he performance! It’s a win-win situation for Adam!

I have to run and do RL again. I’ll check the comments later!!

His album is also seeing a jump. Now we just need more TV performance for both Adam and Kris. (And Allison). I say Kradison on SNL. The three of them would be hysterical together. I know it will never happen but it all begins with dream. ;-)

  67. However, I don’t think this is an industry rumor. I think it stems from fan wishful thinking.

It’s how Idol rumors start, generally.

  68. I’m not saying this would even happen in a million years but even if tfm is not nominated (its ineligilble and it won’t be anyway) there is no reason adam still could not sing on the show. One year beyonce sang all the nominated songs: other years they have random people sing nominated songs instead of the original artist; sometimes they do tributes to movie songs or movie musicals and have random people participate.

  69. Larry King was never mentioned by Adam or his team and it was never on the official website. I wonder if this was just a rumor all this time?

The appearance was advertised on the LKL site–I saw it. So, not a rumor.

  70. His album is also seeing a jump. Now we just need more TV performance for both Adam and Kris. (And Allison). I say Kradison on SNL. The three of them would be hysterical together. I know it will never happen but it all begins with dream. ;-)

    Love your dream, dhunken!

  71. Adam is not just getting jumps on Itunes He is also getting increases at Amazon in both physical CD and MP3 downloads. I love Barbara Walters.

Larry King was never mentioned by Adam or his team and it was never on the official website. I wonder if this was just a rumor all this time?

The appearance was advertised on the LKL site’“I saw it. So, not a rumor.

I confirm this as viewers were asked by LK to send in questions to be asked to Adam and I did. That is now gone off the site but it was there. I swear

  73. To be honest I’m glad LKL was canceled. I’m hoping we are done with all the AMA talk. I notice his interviews are slowly getting back to the music where it should be.

  74. Larry King tweeted Adam would be on his show.

Also there was a spot on LKL’s website asking viewers to send questions via email. I sent about 3 questions and got back confirmations.

  75. However, I don’t think this is an industry rumor. I think it stems from fan wishful thinking.

It’s how Idol rumors start, generally.

AS I said previously this rumor about the Oscars stems from Adam S. (SYTYCD) asking on twitter who do people want to see on the Oscars or who would make them watch. Adam was one of the most requested. Here is an article on it

    http://www.thewrap.com/ind-column/twitterverse-oscars-adam-lambert-11386

There is this article from the NYP but take that with a grain of salt.

  76. Soooooo…Adam fans, and Adam are sooooo lucky. Trust me I understand how invested we become in our idols, and how we feel joy for them, and with them, then on the other hand we feel angst and dissapointment for them. However, any angst that Adam fans may feel for Adam because of the lack of airplay, or not great cd’s sales, should be put to rest. His label, and management team got AL back! I mean any other idol, would has been left to sink or swim on his own after just a video, and the generic promotion all the other’s have gotten. So, when you read about the numbers, and any doom and gloom kinda deal, shrug it off…label, media, fans, and management got his back. Lucky, lucky dude! Great interview, last night and this morning…wow. Lots and lots of Adam!

  77. A lot of stuff gets cancelled from LKL because if they can get a current newsmaker they dump whatever is previously scheduled. ‘ ¦ But there’s speculation that maybe Adam’s team canceled it ‘” or that it was never actually even scheduled!

Oh, I would guess that Lambert’s team cancelled it because they know LK would have focused on that disaster AMA thing. RCA wants everyone to just forget it really happened, forget the grilling & move on with the music. LK is a terrible interviewer & so frankly, if I was manging AL, I would have never let him go on LKL. RCA is working double-time to erase that memory.

  78. WOw, the ladies on the VIew were super nice to him. The episode that they showed from his AMA performance was good, they talked about his charity effort, and really tried to counterbalance the accusations. that was the best interview for him. Also last night, the editing team on Barbara Walters’ special chose some of his most impressive vocals (although yes, that interview was short and superficial.) I just always wish he had chosen music again and broken open as his singles. i am sure the disc would have done much much better….

  79. I wonder about the Oscar rumor. We know TFM cannot be nominated, so why would he perform. And where did they hear that rumor?

Did the ladies say something about the Oscars? I didn’t catch it if they did, and I don’t want to watch the whole interview again.

  80. MJ: Thanks so much for posting this!!

His singing was awesome, I feel so happy for Adam.

  81. Could Adam really be performing on the Oscars? Isn’t ABC the network that hosts the Oscars?

Can’t see this happening’ ¦but then, again, I could be wrong & keeping my fingers crossed that I am.

I believe CBS is the network for the Oscars, and I read that TFM is not eligible because Natasha Shneider( one of the songwriters) died two months before they started to make the movie, making it not eligible for the nominations, but I like to hear that they bend the rules sometimes, it is a beautiful song and a beautiful story behind the song, so I will allow myself a small glimmer of hope.
And yes, LK appearance was official on LK site, I e-mailed a question myself. I am very happy about chelsy lately instead of LK, and can the view be the last place that Adam has to explain himself, it is over and done with, we want to listen to the music now!

  82. I won’t hold my breath for the rumor of Oscar performance. I don’t see it happening either.

  83. Love this and love the song, I just wish he was not singing with a track, which is so very obvious. It makes me wonder what would happen if Adam was put to the test of performing live daily like Kris Allen has been, would his voice hold up?

I’m so done with the whole AMA thing. I just wish everyone could move on with their lives and just produce great music.

  84. If the Academy of Motion Pictures nominating board wants something to be nominated they will find a way to do it. No one knows for sure if T4M is or isn’t eligible, is or isn’t nominated. No information has been forthcoming. And speculation by some ninny on an online media site isn’t proof that T4M isn’t eligible. Does he have more information than the Oscar nominating board?

As for LKL. Hallelujah it’s cancelled. Hell I’ll speculate that some clerk at 19 added this to Adam’s schedule and when Adam and his team found out then not only said no, but HELL NO.

  85. Did the ladies say something about the Oscars? I didn’t catch it if they did, and I don’t want to watch the whole interview again.

I believe they said it on today’s live show during the hot topics segment.

I wonder about the Oscar rumor. We know TFM cannot be nominated, so why would he perform. And where did they hear that rumor?

Did the ladies say something about the Oscars? I didn’t catch it if they did, and I don’t want to watch the whole interview again.

they actually mentioned it in the beginning of the program and not in the interview. they were talking about adam segment coming on later in the program and said that they heard a rumor that Adam may be performing at the oscars.

  87. Love this and love the song, I just wish he was not singing with a track, which is so very obvious. It makes me wonder what would happen if Adam was put to the test of performing live daily like Kris Allen has been, would his voice hold up?

Well, considering the amount of eight-show-a-week theater experience he’s had, during much of which time he was also singing extra shows at clubs and such, I’d say his voice has about as much of a chance to hold up as anyone’s. …. I’m sure it gives out from time to time, but he’s certainly also had a ton of experience that’s required him to try to keep it in shape for daily, and oftener-than-daily, performances, for many years now.

  88. TFM is not eligible because Natasha Shneider( one of the songwriters) died two months before they started to make the movie, making it not eligible for the nominations,

That wouldn’t be why the song is not eligible. Amongst other things, the song had to have been written for the movie (although there have been a few exceptions to this rule). Since movies can be in preproduction for years, her death just months prior to the actual start of filming is not any indication of whether the song is eligible.

  89. It makes me wonder what would happen if Adam was put to the test of performing live daily like Kris Allen has been, would his voice hold up?

Well, he did the Idol Tour remember? And his set was far more vocally demanding than Kris’s was. I believe he held up just fine, making a few adjustments when his voice was strained but mostly singing the crap out of his songs every night.

  90. Time for Miracles is not eligible for an Oscar as it wasn’t expressly written for the movie 2012.

Feb. 2009 Beyonce performed for the Oscars when she didn’t have a song nominated for the Oscars.

  91. Why wouldn’t Adam’s voice hold up? It held up fine for the tour. It held up 8 shows a week for two years in Wicked. I’m not sure I understand the question.

  92. “Love this and love the song, I just wish he was not singing with a track, which is so very obvious. It makes me wonder what would happen if Adam was put to the test of performing live daily like Kris Allen has been, would his voice hold up?”

Funny. No backing track at all. If you compare this to song to the recording on the album it is pretty obvious. Besides, with good speakers you can distinctly hear the voices of Lisa and Monte. Nice try but no cigar. And why bring up Kris?

  93. Thank you AGAIN, mj! The ladies on The View couldn’t keep their hands off of him and Elisabeth went for TWO kisses at the end of his performance!

The stage of his performance is the best so far … loved the way they did his name.

dhunken, absolutely agree with you that Kradison would be HILARIOUS on SNL. Kris and Adam were great on The Best Week Ever … their chemistry is contagious!

Great performance by Adam! So, yes, please let’s get back to his music!

  94. Love this and love the song, I just wish he was not singing with a track, which is so very obvious. It makes me wonder what would happen if Adam was put to the test of performing live daily like Kris Allen has been, would his voice hold up?

Actually I think this performance was without a backing track (for the first time). Not that a backing track matters much for the main singers voice, it just matters for Monte and Lisa.

  95. And I’m glad no LKL. Time to drop the AMA “controversy” and the gay thing and concentrate on the music. Looking forward to Conan and Chelsea Lately, though. I hope BB can get a little rest this week.

  96. Keep the “call to arms” on your fansites, please. I make this extremely explicit in my guidelines

  97. I didn’t hear any backing track either. I don’t care for the song, but he sure sings the hell out of it. And he’s a trained professional; his voice will hold up well, I’m sure. It’s actually all the talking that can take a toll on a singer’s vocal cords, so once they heavy PR push is done, I’m sure he’ll be fine.

And as somebody who’s been critical of Adam lately, I thought he came off here really well. And you couldn’t have asked for a more hospitable interview. Finally . . . let’s get back to the music!

I’m with you, Mrs. P. Appellate courts have to worry about following precedent. The Academy nominating board? Not so much.

  99. On the Eligibility of TFM though I think it is a long shot it is not out of the question that it could be made eligible. Wasn’t there controversy over Falling Slowing. I think at first it wasn’t eligible then miraculously it became eligible. Again I am not saying it will be nominated just saying it is not out of the realm of possibility.

  100. they actually mentioned it in the beginning of the program and not in the interview. they were talking about adam segment coming on later in the program and said that they heard a rumor that Adam may be performing at the oscars.

Thanks angela. Now it’s even got The New York Times talking about him performing at the Oscars:

(There’s still the chance that ABC might have to host Mr. Lambert on its Academy Awards broadcast in February ‘” assuming his song from the ‘2012’ ³ soundtrack gets an Oscar nod ‘” which Ms. Walters acknowledged at the start of the show.)

Not gonna happen! I think Tom O’Neil from the L.A. Times is more of a reliable source on this than Barbara Walters. But now that she’s put this out there, perhaps the Academy will be forced to address the issue and put it to rest.

  101. Larry King just tweeted…

kingsthings: We’re hoping @AdamLambert will reschedule with us. He said he’s cutting back on interviews so he can focus on his music again.

I’m so glad Adam got to go on The View. Fantastic appearance all around! :D

  102. Nice performance and good interview.

I don’t get why people thought the View ladies would be pouncing or unkind to him. They are normally pretty gracious with their guests from what I’ve seen in the past. They were also all pretty supportive of Adam throughout and after the show.

What bugs me about all this is that he and interviewers keep harping on the ‘kiss’ and it being discrimination and double standards. It was never about that and the kiss was never censored on the west coast.

  103. <

It makes me wonder what would happen if Adam was put to the test of performing live daily like Kris Allen has been, would his voice hold up?

Adam performed 5 songs a night, 5 nights of the week, 52 shows over a period of 2 1/2 months on the Idol tour. Whole Lotta Love is a total voice killer vocally. Adam began his set every night with WLL and went on from there to sing Starlight, Mad World, Slow Ride and Bowie. Somehow he made it through all 52 shows (260 songs) and still gave a drop dead final performance in Manchester, NH. Youtube has tons of vids covering the entire tour if you missed it. Well worth viewing. Not worried at all about Adam’s voice – not in the least.

  104. “Tom O’Neil from the L.A. Times”

Like Tom I have read the rules and regulations for songs being nominated per the Academy. But until we have a press release from the Academy stating that the song has been submitted for consideration and rejected by said Academy it is all speculation at this point. And wow at thinking that an online writer is a reliable source. I wouldn’t trust anyone from any media that is trying to sell papers or get internet hits.

  105. Not gonna happen! I think Tom O’Neil from the L.A. Times is more of a reliable source on this than Barbara Walters. But now that she’s put this out there, perhaps the Academy will be forced to address the issue and put it to rest.

I never consider Barbara Walters a reliable source. The lady takes rumor and third hand information as fact all the time.

Yes that’s true. “Falling Slowly” was first deemed ineligible because the Academy didn’t think it was written for the movie, but the producers were able to prove that it was. So the producers of 2012 would have to be able to prove the same thing about TFM, which is impossible, because it wasn’t!

  107. Feb. 2009 Beyonce performed for the Oscars when she didn’t have a song nominated for the Oscars.

Ahh, I forgot about this. Very interesting. I know Adam Shankman got a ton of tweets about putting Adam on the show. That would just be awesome if he got to perform, even if TFM wasn’t (couldn’t) be nominated.

Also, I read all the tweets about the awesome View set design for Adam, and now I see it for the first time. Love it! :-)

  108. Yes that’s true. ‘Falling Slowly’ was first deemed ineligible because the Academy didn’t think it was written for the movie, but the producers were able to prove that it was. So the producers of 2012 would have to be able to prove the same thing about TFM, which is impossible, because it wasn’t!

LOL – will, IIRC you’re the champion for team “TFM IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR AN OSCAR!!” You know, it’s never gonna end ;-) (well, until the actual nominations are announced…)

  109. Adam did have some vocal issues during tour — he was on vocal rest for while — remember all the whining when he didn’t come out to the M&Gs because he needed to save his voice?

That said, I don’t see why he should have any more issues than anyone else who tours constantly. There are going to be days when the voice is strained and there might even be times when he has to miss dates because of illness. But that happens with a lot of musicians. Overall, I would think his voice will hold up just fine once he starts performing on a regular basis

  110. “to be able to prove the same thing about TFM, which is impossible, because it wasn’t!”

I’m not saying that the song is eligible or not since I don’t know but a movie can be in pre-production for years before the first camera is set to roll. So unless you can back up your statement with incontrovertible proof it is still for us to find out down the road. Right?

  111. And I’m glad no LKL. Time to drop the AMA ‘controversy’ and the gay thing and concentrate on the music. Looking forward to Conan and Chelsea Lately, though. I hope BB can get a little rest this week.

At first I was bummed about the LKL cancellation (I just want every chance to see him on TV, damn it ;-)) but this is a good point, and I think it makes sense to make these appearances much more about JUST the music, rather than about all of the other stuff that gets in the way – people know about Adam already, now they need to hear his great music!

  112. Larry King just tweeted’ ¦

kingsthings: We’re hoping @AdamLambert will reschedule with us. He said he’s cutting back on interviews so he can focus on his music again.

PERFECT!!! Today was a total WIN – no more damage control interviews needed. Less talk, more singing. That’s what it’s all about – his amazing voice.

  113. ‘Falling Slowly’ was first deemed ineligible because the Academy didn’t think it was written for the movie, but the producers were able to prove that it was.

Well it would be more accurate to state that the movie was written around the song. The song existed prior to the script and that complicated its nomination (along with the fact that the song was performed ad nauseum prior to the movie’s release which generally will make it ineligible.) Having said that, if the Academy wants TFM amongst the nominations, they’ll find a way to approve it.

  114. so….. he cancels LKL but then Chelsea Lately appears on his schedule?

  115. tfm isn’t eligible fir an Oscar but according to that same la times blogger, it can be nominated for a golden globe!

    funnier that way!!

  117. kingsthings: We’re hoping @AdamLambert will reschedule with us. He said he’s cutting back on interviews so he can focus on his music again.

This is interesting. I’m not sure if it’s smart considering almost any tv time is a good thing AND Adam is really good in interviews. Just asking LK to not make the entire interview about the AMA should have been enough, imo.

Exactly. It doesn’t matter what some writer in LA Times say. The Academy changes the rules all the time.

  119. Adam’s album is now 82 (regular version) and 103 deluxe on the overall ITUNES chart. I think that is a pretty good jump but I don’t know what it was at yesterday.

Both WWFM and FYE are at 108 and 105 on the overall Itunes chart. But I don’t know what they were yesterday for sure, but I think they were a lot higher (maybe in the 190s?)

  120. Just asking LK to not make the entire interview about the AMA should have been enough, imo.

Yeah well we’ve seen what happens when Adam and/or his people even remotely want to redirect interviews toward discussion of his music or away from topics Adam doesn’t wish to discuss.

  121. Having said that, if the Academy wants TFM amongst the nominations, they’ll find a way to approve it.

I love Adam, but the way the Academy works is totally nuts. I’m not thrilled with the song rule changes either.

so’ ¦.. he cancels LKL but then Chelsea Lately appears on his schedule?

yep. makes total sense to me. Larry’s statement said that it was so Adam could concentrate on music again. Obviously, Larry wasn’t going to give him much time (if any) to perform and likely wanted to talk about the AMAs and The Gay. Most likely Chelsea lately is going to let him perform more than one song and/or talk a lot about the music itself….which is really interesting to hear. if you haven’t listened to the sirius “Soaked” interview or to the Slezak parts that were about the music, you should check them out.

  122. so’ ¦.. he cancels LKL but then Chelsea Lately appears on his schedule?

I kind of see the logic in that. LKL would have been an in depth interview with lots of talk about controversy, blah blah blah. Chelsea only talks to her guests for about 5 minutes and it’s usually lighthearted and fun.

Plus, Larry is an old fuddy duddy, while Chelsea is freakin’ hilarious.

  123. I just really, really, really want Adam on Graham Norton.

ETA: On the Graham Norton show, not directly ON Graham Norton – although I’m certain Graham would accomodate Adam in that regard LOL.

  124. Both WWFM and FYE are at 108 and 105 on the overall Itunes chart. But I don’t know what they were yesterday for sure, but I think they were a lot higher (maybe in the 190s?)

Yesterday (wed) morning I think WWFM was at 186 and FYE at 157.

  125. Larry King vs Chelsea lately. Yeah, let’s go with the younger demographic!

  126. just got a chance to watch the videos…yowza i think elizabeth has a crush…..all the ladies were super smiley and touchy feely –good job all around….let this be the end to the whole AMA story

  127. Both WWFM and FYE are at 108 and 105 on the overall Itunes chart. But I don’t know what they were yesterday for sure, but I think they were a lot higher (maybe in the 190s?)

Those are very big jumps. They were both pretty high in the 100s yesterday. Of course, I don’t think those jumps mean a huge number of sales, but, still, clearly the tv is having an effect!

  128. Plus, Larry is an old fuddy duddy, while Chelsea is freakin’ hilarious.

Exactly. Chelsea = fun, LKL = srs bsns.

Whoa! That’s a nice little leap in just a couple of hours. WWFM was 126 at noon with the album being 99 and 125.

  130. just got a chance to watch the videos’ ¦yowza i think elizabeth has a crush’ ¦..all the ladies were super smiley and touchy feely ‘“good job all around’ ¦.let this be the end to the whole AMA story

LOL – aren’t all the ladies when Adam’s around? He’s got, like, magic oozing out of him or something ;-)

  131. kingsthings: We’re hoping @AdamLambert will reschedule with us. He said he’s cutting back on interviews so he can focus on his music again.

    ^^^ Yes! BB is learning!

  132. Those are very big jumps. They were both pretty high in the 100s yesterday. Of course, I don’t think those jumps mean a huge number of sales, but, still, clearly the tv is having an effect!

Yes – that’s great to see! And for Kris too – it’s helped them both :-)

Maybe people are finally done purchasing their 10 copies each of SuBo and Andrea Bocelli…one can hope (rolls eyes)

ETA: And I’m especially happy to see WWFM performing better. That song is all sorts of good – gripping, emotional, catchy, etc. The fact that it wasn’t yet catching on via itunes was frustrating.

  133. What ever the decision on the Oscar talk. I do hope that the Academy makes a statement on whether it is eligible or not sooner then later so it can be put to rest. Then again they may not because it’s publicity.

  134. Those are very big jumps. They were both pretty high in the 100s yesterday. Of course, I don’t think those jumps mean a huge number of sales, but, still, clearly the tv is having an effect!

ITA- probably not a lot of units, but it does show people do respond positively when they hear him sing. So that is good. I think there was some discussion/concern last night that Adam isn’t getting any boost from performing on TV. I think he will get a bigger bump next week after SYTYCD finale.

  135. ‘Falling Slowly’ was first deemed ineligible because the Academy didn’t think it was written for the movie, but the producers were able to prove that it was.

Sorry, will, this is not entirely correct. The biggest obstacle “Falling Slowly” faced was this rule:

16.II.D. The work must be recorded for use in the motion picture prior to any other usage, including public performance or expoitation through any media whatsoever.

Because of the lengthy production time between the creation of the song and the filming of the movie, the song was actually performed by the duo who wrote it at various European venues for approximately two years prior to the film’s release. In addition, the song appeared on two different albums. To me, that’s a pretty clear violation of the aforestated rule. These were public performances and selling cds is considered exploiting the song through a form of media, so…. But the Academy ruled that these transgressions were minimal. Now I don’t see an exception for minimal exploitation written in there but they apparently did. They wrote the rules, they can interpret them any way they want.

I know the song must be written for the movie, but what if the producers were able to convince the Academy that the song was significantly rewritten for the movie, or that someone had a conversation with someone two years prior, or some other argument that could be used to create an unwritten exception to a rule. Until the song is submitted and rejected or someone with authority makes a public statement, I’m considering the matter unresolved.

  136. Adam did have some vocal issues during tour ‘” he was on vocal rest for while ‘” remember all the whining when he didn’t come out to the M&Gs because he needed to save his voice?

But only once or twice did it really effect his performance to the point of bum notes, versus choosing going lower, not doing as many high/sustained notes. The first time I noticed anything really wrong with bum notes, was the Atlantic City show and it was right after that that he started his vocal rest. As it was, he was able to save his voice for singing, by not doing all the interviews/M&Gs and so even when he got sick, didn’t miss a performance.

So I think that Adam knows what he needs to do on tour to save his voice, plus people doing regular tours don’t do things like pre-show and after shows and barricades M&Gs or expected to do local interviews every other time. Those are more idol things.

  137. Adam finally on here in slo mo Hawaii!!! Wow he looks delicious!1

  138. I’m not saying that the song is eligible or not since I don’t know but a movie can be in pre-production for years before the first camera is set to roll. So unless you can back up your statement with incontrovertible proof it is still for us to find out down the road. Right?

I don’t have the link handy, but the copyright information on TFM is available online. It was coprighted in mid-2007. Script for 2012 wasn’t shopped to studios till Feb. 2008.

Well it would be more accurate to state that the movie was written around the song. The song existed prior to the script and that complicated its nomination (along with the fact that the song was performed ad nauseum prior to the movie’s release which generally will make it ineligible.)

You can read the facts about “Falling Slowly” and its relationship to the movie here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falling_Slowly#History

  139. I do hope that the Academy makes a statement on whether it is eligible or not sooner then later so it can be put to rest.

I makes absolutely no sense for the Academy to address rumors like this. Their job is not to do rumor control. If they did they’d be making special announcements right and left to different fan bases every year. They need to retain what dignity they have by not catering to fan bases like that.

  140. I don’t know about this new single – “Whataya Want From Me” – it sounds like those generic songs that were handed out to various Idols in the past. Nothing is really great or distinctive about it.

  141. I just really, really, really want Adam on Graham Norton.

I would love to see this. The things that he gets big celebs to do is hilarious. Adam would be great on his show.

  142. LaurelG Very well written, well thought out post on the whole Oscar eligibility of TFM. It confirms my thought that even though it maybe a long shot that it will be nominated it is not out of the realm of possibility. If The Academy makes an exception It would not be unheard of. Time will tell. I think the tougher obstacle is the 8.2 rating it has to receive in order to be nominated.

I don’t know about this new single ‘“ ‘Whataya Want From Me’ ‘“ it sounds like those generic songs that were handed out to various Idols in the past. Nothing is really great or distinctive about it.

Your opinion is respected and appreciated but I don’t agree. Some of those generic songs did quite well for various Idols. Someone liked them. :-)

  144. Love this and love the song, I just wish he was not singing with a track, which is so very obvious. It makes me wonder what would happen if Adam was put to the test of performing live daily like Kris Allen has been, would his voice hold up?

Well, most people have already stated my thoughts on this, like, how has Adam had any less of a strenuous schedule than Kris now, not to mention how well Adam did on tour with the most difficult set of the bunch.

But I’ll add to that, the backing track is what is used when there are multiple vocal lines played over each other. Unless Adam has magically learned to sing two lines at the same time, this is kinda necessary. So not getting this comment at all.

  145. John Carney developed the script around songs provided by Hansard and Irglovà ¡.

    Which is what I said.

Well it would be more accurate to state that the movie was written around the song. The song existed prior to the script

I don’t think anyone is arguing that T4M may have some issues if it is presented to the Academy for consideration as Best Song but the Academy seems to be very fluid in choosing which songs it accepts or denies. Since very very few songs are debuted in a movie anymore the academy has very few songs even presented to them. If they have another song from another movie that meets all of their criteria they may want to broaden their rules to allow another song to be considered for competition. So it doesn’t seem that the issue is totally mute at this point whether T4M will be considered. I think wait and see is the best approach. Personally I think movie songs are a thing of the past and will no longer be a part of the awards ceremony based on the crap that has won the last few years. And these songs don’t seem to get a big boost if they are nominated anyway so what is the difference.

  147. Script for 2012 wasn’t shopped to studios till Feb. 2008.

Will though I mostly agree with you on the subject, being shopped to studios does not mean it wasn’t conceived and planned much sooner. Like I said before I wish someone official from the Academy would make a statement on this. But I am sure they really don’t care that people are clueless. ;-)

  148. I don’t know about this new single ‘“ ‘Whataya Want From Me’ ‘“ it sounds like those generic songs that were handed out to various Idols in the past. Nothing is really great or distinctive about it.

Hmm, well, being more generic (though not my opinion specifically) is sometimes not such a bad thing. I think a common consensus online was that, regardless of whether WWFM was the most brilliant, inventive song ever written, it’s very very radio friendly – which tends to be “safer”. Look at many of Daughtry and Kelly’s biggest hits – I’d tend to group many of them in that “safer”, “generic” mold too, and they’re doing pretty well on the radio ;-)

  149. ITA- probably not a lot of units, but it does show people do respond positively when they hear him sing. So that is good. I think there was some discussion/concern last night that Adam isn’t getting any boost from performing on TV. I think he will get a bigger bump next week after SYTYCD finale.

Yep, I think so, too. Bring on SYTYCD!

  150. I don’t think anyone is arguing that T4M may have some issues if it is presented to the Academy for consideration as Best Song but the Academy seems to be very fluid in choosing which songs it accepts or denies.

Not to mention, I personally think TFM would be a great song to have featured on the Oscars – it’s one of those big, ballady, rousing numbers that oscar loves, and it would do well in that context (to be performed and nominated).

  151. It makes me wonder what would happen if Adam was put to the test of performing live daily like Kris Allen has been, would his voice hold up?

Adam sang for an hour and a half, 8 performances a week, for 2 years in Wicked. Sorry, not seeing an issue here.

  152. It makes me wonder what would happen if Adam was put to the test of performing live daily like Kris Allen has been, would his voice hold up?

He blew the roof of many arenas almost every night this summer on the Idols tour…did not seem to have much problem to me!

  153. Oh, and had to add, the pics of Adam on the View website looked so good! I love his look for the show (a little more toned down, but that’s ok, he’ll put his freak back on for tomorrow ;-) – that’s the Z100 ball right?)

  154. UPDATE: Tweeted from Larry King Live: ‘We’re hoping @AdamLambert will reschedule with us. He said he’s cutting back on interviews so he can focus on his music again.’

  158. If T4M got sent for oscar consideration, it definitely will create another controversy and more debates. Oh well, Adam’s life has been like that. Adam = controversy.

Who cares if it gets a nom! From what I read, Beyonce performed a song on the Oscars that was not nominated so why couldn’t Adam? I think most people just want Adam to sing on the Oscars and are not that bothered if the song isn’t nominated IMHO.

  159. “”
Your opinion is respected and appreciated but I don’t agree. Some of those generic songs did quite well for various Idols. Someone liked them.””

ditto on this dhunken – I think this song is very special and unique from the intro that the moment it is played on the radio, you know what is coming. He sings this beautifully but in person, it is really amazing, awe inspiring that he can sing like that without all the bells and whistles that other live singers require, heard him in rehearsal and live up close and it was great

  160. Dial the anger WAYYYY back please, and I’m not sure what Kris has to do with the topic

  161. Who cares if it gets a nom! From what I read, Beyonce performed a song on the Oscars that was not nominated so why couldn’t Adam? I think most people just want Adam to sing on the Oscars and are not that bothered if the song isn’t nominated IMHO.

I have to agree with this…I would just like him to sing on the Oscars..I really am not that invested on whether the song TFM gets a nom or not.

  162. Finally watched! Gosh, he is the cutest thing, and so sharp and funny.

And the AMA “stuff” can be put to rest. Brilliant move cancelling LKL—way to go Adam’s team!

  163. Yep, add me to camp “don’t care as much for the TFM nod, as long as Adam is performing on the Oscars” :-)

ETA: Not that it’s necessarily gonna happen, and I fully expect it probably won’t, but it would just be really cool if it did ;-)

I see your agreements- and I raise you!
I declare here and now that I’m a HUGE Adam fan, but I would be unhappy if TFM was nominated for the Oscars. It’s just not good. Yeah, Adam sounds kickass awesome on it, but he tends to on every song…
I know the Oscars are not always about quality, but you know what? Sometimes they are, and that’s what they’re meant to be, and I’d hate to see a song like TFM, that didn’t even get played throughout the movie or anything, and isn’t that good or original, get a nomination.
I mean- compare that with “Streets of Philadelphia” or “Falling Slowly”…

Then again- if it’s up against some Disney song like the Poccahontas one- well then alright! I’ll take TFM!!!

Other than that- I will never refuse to see Adam performing ANYWHERE, nominated or not. BTW- any performance footage of the VEVO or Speilberg gigs?? I need those, like, NOW!

  165. Then again- if it’s up against some Disney song like the Poccahontas one- well then alright! I’ll take TFM!!!

ITA- or all the songs nominated from “Enchanted!”

  166. Why is it bad that Whoopi’s not there? If she and Joy left, the show would be much better off.

  167. On topic: Haaa! Adam is such a lady magnet! They can never take their hands off him! Remember when he was on Regis and Kelly and Kelly just kept hugging him? And Laura Saultamn… and now Babs and Liz… oh- and even Ellen!!!

He’s so comfortable and charming around women.

You know when I was nervous for him, though? On that clip with Justin Beiber where they were all doing that fist-punching straight dude stuff, and I sensed on Adam that really wasn’t his comfort zone- but still, he made the effort to be “one of the boys” (and added glitz and the snap of his fingers), and I was actually a little moved that they all seemed so sincerely supportive of him (come to think of it- they treated him like guys treat girls sometimes, you know, when the girls are trying to learn a boys game- and all the boys are really patient with the girl, because they know she has no experience doing these stuff? That’s the vibe I got from them- that they were really patient and supporting this very special boy… (I think I need therapy)

  168. I think most people just want Adam to sing on the Oscars and are not that bothered if the song isn’t nominated IMHO.

ITA. But, hey, dream does not cost a thing, right? :D

  169. I am not embarrassed to say this…..I LOVE TFM!!!!!!!!!

    don’t question poster’s motives

Would love to hear it sung anywhere.

How does one get ahold of Adam Shankman?

And mr….agree with you on the handshake stuff… he did seem uncomfortable.

  170. Love this and love the song, I just wish he was not singing with a track, which is so very obvious. It makes me wonder what would happen if Adam was put to the test of performing live daily like Kris Allen has been, would his voice hold up?

Yes he is singing with a track, a backing track, as his band is not up to par with singing backup. The backing track has nothing to do with him singing the song live – this he can do as per the “Wicked” performances and the 52 live shows during the AI tour with 2 excellent back-up singers.

  171. And mr’ ¦.agree with you on the handshake stuff’ ¦ he did seem uncomfortable

I don’t know if he was uncomfortable as much as just bored with the whole thing. It was just tedious. I couldn’t even watch the whole clip. Yes, I can see that a 14 year old in a foot boot might find it a good use of time, but after 30 seconds of that, any adult would just want to move on to something else.

  172. Who says Adam isnt about the music… people are obviously buying it for the music. Check out this tweet:

I want to buy Adam Lambert’s new album, not because I really enjoy his music, but because I don’t like people that don’t like gay people.

Oh no! You didn’t watch it till the end? Then go watch now- it only gets interesting after the 4th minute or so- when Adam introduces the “sparkley” fist-pound, and all the guys- including the camera guy- are like “I can Sparkle! I can Sparkle!”… totally sweet!
And I don’t think he was bored at all, just trying to fit in with the guys, something I’m sure he’s had trouble with at certain points in his life…

    jms– you’re very welcome! :-)

  177. Oh no! You didn’t watch it till the end? Then go watch now- it only gets interesting after the 3rd minute or so- when Adam introduces the ‘sparkley’ fist-pound, and all the guys- including the camera guy- are like ‘I can Sparkle! I can Sparkle!’ ’ ¦ totally sweet!

Ok, I’m going back for a second viewing. :)

  178. Lots of love for TfM here as well. I still don’t understand why they went through the trouble of making that video and then not show, or mention, it anywhere. Maybe there is a plan regarding the Oscar situation?
Or something else, but surely there must have been a reason for the whole thing.

  179. I still find it a bit disingenuous on part of The View to maintain that the episode was taped due to his propensity to go off script performance wise when by all accounts it was due to scheduling but I guess the other way is the better story. meh whatever.

Interview was love-fest as pretty much all Adam’s interviews are. Performance was top notch as usual. WWFM is nice and all but would love to start hearing a few of the other songs from the album – some will be a challenge live with a 4 piece band but maybe Sleepwalker, or Music Again again, or Pick U Up – all “safe” songs for television performances.

  180. it only gets interesting after the 4th minute or so- when Adam introduces the ‘sparkley’ fist-pound, and all the guys- including the camera guy- are like ‘I can Sparkle! I can Sparkle!’ ’ ¦ totally sweet!

    You are right, very cute!

  181. per hitfix.com, tfm can still be nominated for a golden globe and they even have it as an “outside chance” of getting in!

  182. thanks mr! That was so cute and funny. Bieber is kind of a little twerp though, must be the age.

  183. I am not embarrassed to say this’ ¦..I LOVE TFM!!!!!!!!!

Me too! listen to it over and over….

  184. Regarding the discussion of T4M and the Best Original Song nomination:

    1. There is not certainty that there will even be a Best Original Song oscar this year. But most Oscar watchers believe there will be.

    2. The AMPAS music committee hasn’t ruled T4M inelligilbe. Tom O’Neil may write for the LA Times but that does not make him the “decider”.

    3. Here is the specific rule for Original Song qualification:

    Original Song:
An original song consists of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the motion picture. There must be a clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition (not necessarily visually presented) of both lyric and melody, used in the body of the motion picture or as the first music cue in the end credits.

The question raised by Tom O’Neil is if T4M was written specifically for 2012. The entire basis for this question is that one of the song co-writers passed away on July 2, 2008, and the film when into production in August 2008. But since the script treatment was completed in 2004, the script was completed in February 2008 AND the remaining co-writer is still alive, so how does the timing of Natasha prove that T4M was not written specifically for 2012?

T4M was not published, recorded, performed or even copyrighted before July 2009. It was recorded specifically for the film.

One of the first things that is looked at when determining song qualificationis was the song published prior to a film’s production? The answer is no. Since the song wasn’t even published prior to the film recording, there is no question of prior use.

There have been two recent controversies about Original Song qualification, both involve prior use of the song before the film production started:

    1. “Falling Slowly” has been released on two other albums ‘” The Swell Season, Hansard’s solo debut, and The Cost, by Hansard’s band The Frames. The Swell Season was released in August 2006, and The Cost in February 2007, before the release of Once. However, the AMPAS music committee determined that, in the course of the film’s protracted production, the composers had “played the song in some venues that were deemed inconsequential enough to not change the song’s eligibility”. [Clear violation of rule 4 below — but since the allbums didn’t sell very much they were deemed inconsequential.]

    2. “In the Deep” from Crash, which appeared on Kathleen “Bird” York’s 2003 album The Velvet Hour after being written for Crash, but before the film was released. [Possible violation of rule 4 below.]

Finally, the AMPAS music committee [and the Academy Board of Governers] go by the intent of the rules when determining elegibility. The intent of the rule was to disallow an extablished hit song from being put in a film and winning the rule. The rule was changed after the 1941 Academy Awards, when “The Last Time I Saw Paris”, from the film Lady Be Good, with music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, won. Kern was upset that his song won because it had been published and recorded before it was used in the movie. The song was actually written in 1940, after the Germans occupied Paris at the start of World War II. It was recorded by Kate Smith and peaked at number 8 on the best seller list before it was used in the film Lady Be Good. Kern got the Academy to change the rule so that only songs that are “original and written specifically for the film” are eligible to win. In other words, there is nothing in the past actions of the Academy or the history of this rule that indicates that they would disqualify T4M from being nominated.

Here are the specific rules on Eligibility:

    ELIGIBILITY

    1. The work must be created specifically for the eligible feature-length motion picture. THIS IS THE QUESTION THAT WAS RAISED, BUT ONLY BASED ON TIMING.

    2. The work must be the result of a creative interaction between the filmmaker(s) and the composer(s) and/or songwriter(s) who have been engaged to work directly on the motion picture. YES, EMMERICH WAS INVOLVED.

    3. The work’s eligibility shall be evaluated on its effectiveness, craftsmanship, creative substance and relevance to the dramatic whole.

    YES

    4. The work must be recorded for use in the motion picture prior to any other usage, including public performance or exploitation through any media whatsoever. YES

  186. To his credit, though, Lambert made his points with a smile, not getting too sanctimonious over what is a silly blow-up about a pop performance. The View hosts seemed to recognize the silliness of it’”and ABC’s reaction, which included bumping Lambert from Good Morning America’”noting that his AMA blow-up led ABC to force them to interview Lambert on tape. Presumably with guards standing off camera with tranq-dart rifles, lest he go gay-crazy. “Protect your children, people!” he joked.

Later in the interview, Joy Behar (who took his side on the double-standard charge) quipped about his public image, “You’re not exactly a nice Jewish boy, let’s face it, Adam.” His answer: “Well, I’m a little different. My dreidel spins the other way.”

Then after commercial, he got another, chaste network-TV performance to promote his album. Making the AMAs, for this Jewish boy, the Hanukkah gift that keeps on giving.

    LOL!!!

  187. Q3, can you think of a reason why the TfM song or video have not been promoted at all?

  188. ‘You’re not exactly a nice Jewish boy, let’s face it, Adam.’ His answer: ‘Well, I’m a little different. My dreidel spins the other way.’

I think this quote is incorrect…Didn’t Joy say “you ARE just a nice Jewish boy…”?

  189. This interview and performance could not have been more perfect! Who would have ever guessed that Barbara Walters and Elisabeth Hasselbeck would be such perfet allies! The pimping of the album was awesome!

  190. Just watched the View AGAIN! (I think I need the number for your therapist mr). WOW. That was really really good.

Question for regular View watchers. Do they normally have a stage all done up like that for music acts? The set was pretty elaborate for a one song deal. Loved it.

  191. Q3 If I wasn’t gay and you weren’t married and lived in a different part of the country….let just say I love ya!

  192. Question for regular View watchers. Do they normally have a stage all done up like that for music acts? The set was pretty elaborate for a one song deal. Loved it.

I personally have never seen them do this…except maybe Christmas decorations during the holiday.

  193. I’m a little confused with all this talk about wanting Adam to sing on the Oscars..what makes everyone think that he should? The Oscars are classy and I think Adam already sang on one awards show and showed he was lacking a little in that department. I personally do not want to see him on the Oscars..and I don’t understand why anyone thinks he should be.

Oh MR – thanks for this – it is funny my 13 year old, (the little girls tell him he looks like Bieber, but I am soooo prejudiced, heh) told me this same thing, he didnt use the word sweet but said MOM – you didnt watch this till the end? You should – Adam is cool with it mom! So, I will have to view again also

I don’t know about their regular sets, but this is Adam, and if it was left to him, we do know he likes to make a statement, even with just one song! :-)

I personally do not want to see him on the Oscars..and I don’t understand why anyone thinks he should be.

Well first off you are entitled to your opinion and I mine, The AMA was one type of performance and If you saw the clip of him Singing at the Steven Speilberg honor you may understand why some of us think him singing at the Oscars would be wonderful. But I fully can see that because of the AMA some would still be bothered by the thought of it.

  199. Loved the set! Adam is such an amazing singer. I have to go see him on tour.

  200. Inviting Adam to sing at the Oscars? Wow. No way would I let him anywhere near that type of a ceremony after the stunt he pulled at the AMAs.

He can go “not babysit” people somewhere else.

Like linmar said, Adam has demonstrated what a classless individual he is.

  201. It would be magical if Adam could sing at the Academy Awards. I think that the fact that he happens to have soundtrack song is music to the Academy’s ears. Adam is a ratings magnet and I’m sure they would be happy to have him on. Do we know if Adam Shankman is a fan? Doesn’t he have a hand in picking the entertainment?

  202. Re: the double standard about the KISS

    Madonna and Britney’s was CONSENSUAL,
Adam’s was NOT since he said it was at the spur of the moment.

Tommy could sued. Actually CBS did specifically blurred it saying a
lawsuit could be involved. Since Tommy seems to accept it passively
(at least publicly), everybody is giving Adam a pass. I would say not
so fast. How would you like your boss forcing a full mouth kiss on you
in public when you are in no position to avoid it.
Now, of course Tommy could have given his consent in advance. If
so, Adam would have told ABC a big fat lie and ABC should definitely
    hold him accountable.
Either way, a bold face lie (a kind of telling people to fuck it) or
sexual molesting can be career ending. We shouldn’t just condone
    it and say “how cute”.
Letterman’s and Tiger’s misbehaviors were CONSENSUAL, so if they
get a pass, it would not count as double standard as hetro sex
    against gay sex.
BTW, I support gay marriage 100%. Will vote for it every chance
    I get.

  203. Well first off you are entitled to your opinion and I mine, The AMA was one type of performance and If you saw the clip of him Singing at the Steven Speilberg honor you may understand why some of us think him singing at the Oscars would be wonderful. But I fully can see that because of the AMA some would still be bothered by the thought of it

Thank you for respecting my opinion. But I also dont understand why anyone thinks he would even be asked to perform there? Why does alot of his fans thinks he should be entitled to do things that usually aren’t offered to performers until they are more established artists? I’ve seen plenty of AI alum performing the National Anthem at various events and alot of them have done as well or better than Adams version at the Spielberg event. Yet even though I’m fans of some of them, I don’t think they should be singing at the Oscars. I don’t think Adam should be either.

  204. “Inviting Adam to sing at the Oscars? Wow. No way would I let him anywhere near that type of a ceremony after the stunt he pulled at the AMAs.”

The great thing about Adam’s career now is that he is no long at the mercy of the American Idol voters and what he is invited to do and not do is up to the powers in the real world and not the public who thinks that their power voting counts.

  205. If they want him, they’ll book him. If they don’t, they won’t. Simple as that.

  206. Well halfnhalf- Adam said that Tommy gave him permission to grab him while they were shooting the MV a week before, plus he knew the guy was rock’n’roll in spirit- and if you noticed- after the initial surprise- Tommy actually kissed back– and has since seemed very proud of it (and doubled his twitter followers- oh- and calls Adam “glitter baby”)- so I don’t think it was harassment…

  207. The great thing about Adam’s career now is that he is no long at the mercy of the American Idol voters and what he is invited to do and not do is up to the powers in the real world and not the public who thinks that their power voting counts.

You’re right. Which is why the real world (ABC) has already canceled him twice. No power voting required.

And I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t sing TFM at the Oscars, so I guess we are even? 8-) …

I think TFM is a beautiful song, and I would love to hear him sing it at the Oscars. Adam performs when he sings, based on the lyrics in the song. I’ve watched his interpretation of TFM over and over in the video … it is a song about love and devotion and perseverance, and he performs it that way. I haven’t watched the Oscars in years, but I would watch it for Adam.

  210. Why does alot of his fans thinks he should be entitled to do things that usually aren’t offered to performers until they are more established artists?

I don’t think anyone’s background makes them “entitled” to perform. (Caveat: Barbara Streisand is an exception. I’m sure if she indicated a desire to sing anywhere people would bend over backwards to make it happen). As a fan, I think Adam is just that good and would be a great choice. What the Academy thinks is what matters but there’s nothing wrong with anyone’s fans crossing their fingers and hoping for a performance.

  211. You’re right. Which is why the real world (ABC) has already canceled him twice. No power voting required.

And the rest of the networks have gobbled him up. And the Queen of ABC (Babs) has now overruled her networks ban twice.

Lots of love for TfM here as well. I still don’t understand why they went through the trouble of making that video and then not show, or mention, it anywhere. Maybe there is a plan regarding the Oscar situation?
Or something else, but surely there must have been a reason for the whole thing.

Monte never elaborated on it but when he was announced as joining Adam his first tweet (to noone in particular) was “And so it begins” Then later that he was figuring out the chord progression for TFM.

So at some point they were either thinking of playing it or have a plan for it or Monte is just that sort of guy to learn every single song. Or all three lol.

I think in terms of big audiences TFM is perfect. WWFM is kinda poppy and for a more youth oriented or something like a SYTYCD crowd, and TFM for me is a big production voice number. Somewhere that there’s a different priority than to get the singles heard. Someday. LOL

  213. AlliB
    12/10/2009 at 4:26 pm
Q3, can you think of a reason why the TfM song or video have not been promoted at all?

I can’t figure out why they would invest in T4M.

Columbia used this song as a promotion for 2012 film. The marketing of T4M can from Columbia Pictures vs. Sony Music Entertainment, and CP’s goal is first and foremost movie receipts from 2012 — which in the end [with DVD sales] will be about $1 billion. The HD 1080p MV of T4M with HD audio is availalbe free, so they really weren’t interested in selling it.

Singles do not make money — they actually cost a lot of money. The justification for promoting singles has been to sell albums. But iTunes fractured that financial model and people under 35 don’t buy many albums — they buy or steal tracks. Average album buyer for Q3 2009 was 43 years old — and that isn’t because people under 30 stopped listening to music.

Sony Music Entertainment execs have said their primary interest is to develop music viewing online and they talk about some sort of pay-to-view membership for music online. I think this in not happening, but OK.

Finally, Sony will make a few $100 million in profit contribution from “2012” — if they sold 1,000,000 copies of T4M at $1.29, they might end up with $100,000 in profit contribution — although probably they would still loose money.

  214. For all the really awesome reasons I think Adam should be invited to sing at the Oscars, the one that would make me most happy would be that it would really piss off the people that think that he shouldn’t.

  215. “You’re right. Which is why the real world (ABC) has already canceled him twice. No power voting required.”

And, sadly, they have become the laughing stock of the television world at this point. And to top it off they have put Adam on their network twice since the fiasco and both times the insanity of their decision has been brought up.

And, Adam has also performed at two very distinguished events for industry people just the last two days, so I think the sentiment highly favors Adam over the suits at ABC. And mark my words Adam will be welcomed back into the ABC fold with open arms and will be promoted to the hilt by the network. You can bet your next American Idol champ on that one.

  216. I’ve seen plenty of AI alum performing the National Anthem at various events and alot of them have done as well or better than Adams version at the Spielberg event.

Really?? I’ve only seen a tiny little clip of Adam’s version at the Spielberg event. You must have seen the whole version to be able to make such a comparison. Please post the link because I would be thrilled to see his entire performance! :)

  217. I’ve seen plenty of AI alum performing the National Anthem at various events and alot of them have done as well or better than Adams version at the Spielberg event. Yet even though I’m fans of some of them, I don’t think they should be singing at the Oscars. I don’t think Adam should be either.

Well I do so I humbly agree to disagree with you. I also don’t agree that any AI alum did it better but that is just my opinion does not make it better or worse then yours just right for me. :-)

  218. Singles do make money. They are not just there to promote albums. And I think Sony thought TfM would be a successful single. I have no idea why they made an expensive video and then didn’t do much with it (as far as I know).

The movie was the big enchilada but I’m sure Sony was hoping for more for TfM. Did it even sell 100,000 copies? I honestly don’t remember. Anyway did Adam talks about TfM on the View because I’m lost and way OT probably.

In the old days, this would be the point where people posted every Idol in history doing the NA. ;).

  219. And the rest of the networks have gobbled him up. And the Queen of ABC (Babs) has now overruled her networks ban twice.

Yeah…ABC cancels Adam and CBS snatches him up, and censors him along the way. The networks are just using Adam. They’re just playing the “I’m Cooler Than The Other Network” game and trying to capitalize off of the hype.

And the “Queen of ABC” didn’t overrule anything. He wasn’t on GMA and won’t be on the New Years’ thing. And as for The View gig goes, it seems as if the only way ABC will give Adam any screen time is if he submits to being taped.

  220. Tommy could sued. Actually CBS did specifically blurred it saying a lawsuit could be involved. Since Tommy seems to accept it passively (at least publicly), everybody is giving Adam a pass. I would say not so fast. How would you like your boss forcing a full mouth kiss on you in public when you are in no position to avoid it.

As I like to tell my clients, you can sue for whatever you want, the question is whether you will be successful!!

Just to clarify: Adam has stated that before the performance Tommy said: “You can, you know, grab me, if you want.”

Adam has also said that Tommy’s statement “shifted the boundaries” with respect to what was permissible and what wasn’t.

Immediately after the performance Tommy tweeted:

Thanks SOO much to everyone that watched!!!! “Rock n Roll is a prostitute…it should be tartted up” ;-)

Personally, I wouldn’t like my boss (not that I really have one) giving me a full on mouth kiss at work, but I work in a law firm with another attorney, and we’re pretty darn boring here.

Adam and Tommy work in the entertainment business, and they were PERFORMING; it’s a whole different world.

Now if Adam had made Tommy give him a bj in exchange for hiring him or as a condition of continued employment, then “Houston, we have a problem!!”

Just to be clear, I can’t possibly imagine something like that happening. By all accounts, Adam has a particularly loyal and dedicated group of friends out there. If he was taking advantage of people on a regular basis that wouldn’t be the case.

  221. I’ve seen plenty of AI alum performing the National Anthem at various events and alot of them have done as well or better than Adams version at the Spielberg event.

Can you share the video or audio of Adams version at the Spielberg event that you heard, pleeeas? I only heard 3 second of it. :(

  222. “If they want him, they’ll book him. If they don’t, they won’t. Simple as that.”

Exactly – really, there’s nothing to say after that. But . . .

Adam would be a lovely, lovely addition to an Oscar show, he is the most exciting, dramatic, skillful male singer out there, IMHO, and while it is not my very favorite song of his, I DO like T4M.

  223. And the ‘Queen of ABC’ didn’t overrule anything. He wasn’t on GMA and won’t be on the New Years’ thing. And as for The View gig goes, it seems as if the only way ABC will give Adam any screen time is if he submits to being taped.

YEAH!!! AND THAT’S WHAT MAKES HIM A REAL LIVE ROCKSTAR!!!!

  224. Please post the link because I would be thrilled to see his entire performance! :)

Me too!! I have been looking everywhere for a video of the entire performance.

Not being able to see Adam sing the star spangled banner coupled with the lack of a video from the Vevo performance has been almost too much to take this week!

Is there a full video of the Spielberg SSB? Link please. Thanks. All I have seen is the small clip from the LA News.

If T4M gets nominated for an Oscar, Adam will get to sing it on the Oscars. If it is not nominated, I would be surprised if he is invited to perform.

  226. The great thing about Adam’s career now is that he is no long at the mercy of the American Idol voters and what he is invited to do and not do is up to the powers in the real world and not the public who thinks that their power voting counts.

“You’re right. Which is why the real world (ABC) has already canceled him twice. No power voting required.”

…And the real world (viewers) has shouted “foul ABC!” that they have no choice but have him again on one of their shows (The View) to save their face.

  227. That little Justin Bieber kid reminds me so much of my former 9th grade students although I must say he acts even younger. It was nice of Adam to humor him by improvising the sparkle fist bump. He’s a good sport.

    Re Oscars and whatnot:
Those of us who are fans never stop wishing for good things to happen to Adam. We believe in dreaming BIG. Why the hell not?

(Ignoring the trolls as per MJs rules!)

  228. And let’s not be too xenocentric, either – the rest of the really big “real world” is super excited about and loving on Adam and his music (New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Dubai, Israel).

The puritanical, prudish response of some Americans baffles them, but they’re more than ready to welcome Adam.

  229. When are the Oscars anyway? March? I’m thinking by then S9 arguments will have replaced the S8 stuff.. At least I hope so. :)

Re: the double standard about the KISS

    Madonna and Britney’s was CONSENSUAL,
Adam’s was NOT since he said it was at the spur of the moment.

Tommy could sued. Actually CBS did specifically blurred it saying a
lawsuit could be involved. Since Tommy seems to accept it passively
(at least publicly), everybody is giving Adam a pass

Before speaking for Tommy you can get his answer directly. He immediately tweeted about it “rock & roll is a prostitute and should be tarted up”, The AMA move was rehearsed as a hair grab. Tommy rubbed himself up and down against Adam during the entire ending of the FYE video, he told Adam in advance that he could grab him “or whatever”, he is in the Vevo promo in the bed with the crowd and caresses Adam’s face. Tommy has his own fan club of Adam fans and tweets constantly and has ever since the AMAs. Further, he tweeted “hey baby boy” to Adam when Adam was in NY who returned “hey glitterbaby” to Tommy which is assumed to be a little joke for the fans who want them to be an item. Hence Tommy’s fanclub’s name of glitterbabies.

It’s unlikely that there will be any litigation unless message board people decide to file in which case it’ll be dismissed for lack of standing. LOL.

The KISS issue stems from Liberty Counsel’s complaint that asserts that “HOMOSEXUAL open mouth kissing”, in part, is obscene. It is unlikely that the FCC will take this on as filed since it would open up a huge can of worms in defining “obscenity” and Community Standards and the role of homosexual acts, therein. imo.

If they want him, they’ll book him. If they don’t, they won’t. Simple as that.

Wow that is simple and the actual fact of the whole issue.

  232. Thank you for respecting my opinion. But I also dont understand why anyone thinks he would even be asked to perform there?

    1. Because Adam Shankman, the producer, asked for suggestions on how to add something different in musical numbers to the show.

    2. Because apparently Steven Speilberg praised Adam as a hero, gifted, and the person his kids are most excited that he met.

    3. Because Rob Marshall cited Adam extremely talented and as the one person in the pop world he’d love to work with the most since Adam approaches his vocal performances as a actor does.

That’s three I can think of in 30 seconds but there may be more..

  233. Got back from RL to watch interview and performance again. Both of them perfect! Adam charmed the pants off the ladies as expected and boy I just love this song live. Great chemistry between Adam and all the ladies. Now that I know what a dreidel is, LOL!. Adam is witty and quick on his feet, I love his interviews. Ok enough gushing I am very happy for Adam.

  234. Thanks for the feedback sleepinggiant and Q3. I think I’m going to assume we’ll have us some TfM to look forward to ;)

  235. Wow The single FYE is now #100 on the combined charts that is a jump of over 26 (#126 this morning) places since The View and WWFM Jumped 50 places from #153 to #103 The Album is #62 that is from #101. The deluxe album is #98 from #164. Seems The View interview and performance was helpful.

  236. Wow- I haven’t spun the dreidel in a while!

Damn- that could totally be interpreted the wrong way ;-)

  237. Beautiful, Adam. Sight and sound. Inside and out. As always~

Thanks for posting these videos, mj. Love ’em~

And, lol at Hasselbeck fawning all over him. Just LOL.

    Those are really good jumps.

This is so new to me. I know TV shows has influence, but I never thought they have such immediate and direct effect on music.

  239. Yeah’ ¦ABC cancels Adam and CBS snatches him up, and censors him along the way. The networks are just using Adam. They’re just playing the ‘I’m Cooler Than The Other Network’ game and trying to capitalize off of the hype.

And the ‘Queen of ABC’ didn’t overrule anything. He wasn’t on GMA and won’t be on the New Years’ thing. And as for The View gig goes, it seems as if the only way ABC will give Adam any screen time is if he submits to being taped.

And he has been on a few other shows and performed at a few other events as well. Networks use EVERYBODY they broadcast. They would not report a newstory or feature an inidividual if they thought it wouldn’t get some attention and ultimately translate into ratings. Adam is no different than folks trying to snag anyone from Susan Boyle to Obama.
Taping still gets Adam on TV. Babs and company hve called their network on the carpet for what they have done. And they are finding a way around the stupidity, while going on record that they oppose it.
The Spielberg event, Rob Marshall’s comments, being one of two individuals picked to perform in front of industry bigwigs the other night all point to the fact that the industry is still interested in Adam. I think the only way he won’t sing at the Oscars would be that the song is not nominated or proved ineligible. And, even then, they have had performers sing a song they didn’t cut the sound track on the Academy Awards before. Just ask Phil Collins.

  240. yeehey! thank you for this! I love it when they seem to have fallen for Adam hahahaha, looove every second of it! That was a nice reception for Adam, really nice!

  241. This is so new to me. I know TV shows has influence, but I never thought they have such immediate and direct effect on music.

I guess you’re not familiar with the effects of American Idol and Glee on the charts. ;)

  242. dhunken

ITA. If Adam could sing that well, look that awesome and impress Mr. S. Speilberg at the ADL event, he could sing at Oscars. AMA is just 1 performance among many performances.

  243. But I also dont understand why anyone thinks he would even be asked to perform there? Why does alot of his fans thinks he should be entitled to do things that usually aren’t offered to performers until they are more established artists?

Because silly…he is a glittery alien from planet fierce and the world is his oyster. I kid, I kid…

I think it’s less of an entitlement issue and more of an issue of preference. Fans aren’t demanding that he be asked. Right? Adam is extremely relevant even though he is less established then some others. Relevance is sometimes more important than experience.

  244. Now that I know what a dreidel is, LOL!

“My dreidel spins the other way” is my fav quote ever from him. Although I must admit I was surprised that there were people that didn’t know what one was. All through elementary school we’d celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkuh at school having both a Christmas tree and a menorah. On Hanukkuh days we would make dreidels out of construction paper and have latkes that the Jewish kids brought in. Each day we’d get a story from a different religion. But wow, I guess they wouldn’t be allowed to do that in a public school these days, huh?

  245. I guess you’re not familiar with the effects of American Idol and Glee on the charts. :0

They are shows heavily involving music performances and I can understand their viewers are more apt to buy music after watching them. SYTYCD too targets on similar demographic, so there is relevancy. But talk shows?

  246. So when is someone qualified to sing at the Oscars? Is there a time table of how long you have to be in the business, or how many grammys and tonys you have won?

I would think the Oscars would like to show some fresh new talent on a show as dated and slightly oppressive as the Oscars to bring in a few new and younger viewers. I can’t imagine watching the show if they were going to highlight only the has beens of the industry.

In fact I seem to recall that they always have a bunch of fresh faced presenters to keep the younger crowd mildly interested. Or am I way off base?

  247. Adam was invited, along with a singer from Israel, and a couple others to perform at the Steven Speilberg Awards Honor- a closed event. Adam was not only there to sing the National Anthem, although it is the only snippet shown.

  248. Adam was not only there to sing the National Anthem, although it is the only snippet shown.

    r u sure?

  249. Guys, the reason why TfM wasn’t promoted so much was probably because RCA didn’t want people to think that it was Adam’s first single. I mean, TfM IS good, but not first-single good, you know what I mean?
There are still many people who think TfM was Adam’s first single, even without promotion.

I’m pretty sure the song sold well; it did reach #9 on iTunes. And it gets some radio play outside the U.S.

Honestly, I don’t think anyone should jump to conclusions regarding the Oscar eligibility, especially the people who are saying TfM is inelligible. We’ll find out when the nominations are announced. Although I do remember reading that TfM WAS written specifically for the film. Anyway, let’s just wait and see.

BTW, I was listening to the radio and I heard the beginning of Music Again, but the DJ was talking over it, and Adam’s voice wasn’t on the track. I got excited and thought they were going to play it, but, as I said, the DJ spoke over the track, and Adam’s voice wasn’t on the track. So I called in and told the DJ that I swore I heard the beginning of Music Again and asked him if he could play it, but he said that the clip I heard was just the music he used or something. Then he said that Music Again wasn’t a hit yet, and I said “Not yet, but soon, hopefully.” Then I told him it was by Adam, and then he said that Adam’s CD was really good, and he thinks people will begin to like him because they aren’t mad at him anymore, or something like that.

So, yeah, I just wanted to share that.

In fact I seem to recall that they always have a bunch of fresh faced presenters to keep the younger crowd mildly interested. Or am I way off base?

You’re absolutely correct. Last year they brought on Zac Efron and Vanessa Anne Hudgens to sing, and they’re obviously not half as good as Adam. The only reason why they did was to target the younger crowd IMO.

  250. Thank you mj love the videos.
    Performance was exceptional.
Interview was enlightening, humorous and sweetly honest-the ladies were also great.
Btw love how he corrects Elizabeth at 2:43 and how he puts Joy in her place in a kind and witty way at 2:49.

    Adam Rules!

  251. All around a very good day for Adam and his album is moving up the charts again, so does that mean there is a ‘The View’ effect?

Probably. And the first thing I thought of when LKL was cancelled was oh please let it be they are doing Oprah soon instead maybe for a xmas musical show or something.

  252. Adam was stunning on The View. He is on the A list as far as talent in the music industry goes. Any show he will be on he will take over. He had the women of the View eating out of the palm of his hand.

  253. If Adam could sing that well, look that awesome and impress Mr. S. Speilberg at the ADL event, he could sing at Oscars. AMA is just 1 performance among many performances.

I may be wrong, but I never thought of the AMAs as being all that high on the totem pole. I watch a number of awards shows throughout the year, but had never bothered with AMA until this year. Oscars, Grammys and Tonys aren’t to be missed, IMHO. But some of the others I can take or leave.

So no baby Jesus or Wisemen or Little Town of Bethlehem allowed in schools? Christmas is now only Santa Claus and Rudolph? Interesting, I didn’t know that either.

Actually I think all that’s allowed now is snow. Seriously.

  255. Any show he will be on he will take over. He had the women of the View eating out of the palm of his hand

I have never seen the women of The View be anything but nice to their guests (not that I watch the show much). They’re very opinionated when guests aren’t there but very cordial when they are. Maybe there are one or two exceptions to that rule when it involves politics but when it comes to non political guests, they’re very nice.

That’s why all the discussion of how Adam would be treated was kind of ridic to be honest.

  256. In general the Oscars ask whoever performed the nominated songs to perform them during the Oscar telecast. For instance, if Elton John perform a nominated song for the movie, they would ask him to perform it on the Oscar telecast.

There have been exceptions to this, but that has long been the standard procedure.

  257. I have never seen the women of The View be anything but nice to their guests (not that I watch the show much).

I agree with you except for the interview with John McCain. They were down right obnoxious and rude. I don’t agree with his politics and voted for Obama.

  258. iTunes update for Adam and Kris

    albums

    FYE #61 overall; #13 pop
Kris Allen #79 overall; #14 pop

  259. “”have never seen the women of The View be anything but nice to their guests (not that I watch the show much). They’re very opinionated when guests aren’t there but very cordial when they are. Maybe there “”

Oh gosh if only that were true, TV’s are on all the time where I work and one station to ABC so they are not nasty all the time, but snide and snarky to guests, yes they have been a time or two or three

I could post vid after vid of that and did a few yesterday, so wont go there again

  260. So Adam isn’t going to be on tv for New Year’s?

I could totally go to this if I want to spend $150. I’m working NYE, but I’m off at 8 p.m. …

Or I could go home and watch Kris and Allison on tv

  261. @tlkfusion CONFIRMED!!!! ADAM LAMBERT IS HEADLINING GRIDLOCK NEW YEARS EVE AT PARAMOUNT STUDIOS!!!!! PURCHASE TICKETS AT http://www.wanttickets.com/gridlock
    2 minutes ago from web

cool but I wish it was rockin nye

Me too. But, it will be great for Adam and the band. I think they will enjoy doing something that isn’t televised. It is evidently “the place to be on New Year’s Eve” in Hollywood. Adam will get to play in his environment with his new band! Also, they will get to play a set-instead of just one or two songs. I’m happy for them!

BTW, Katy Perry headlined last year-so this isn’t a small gig.

  262. Adam at a non-televised, late hours, 21 and up event. Damn, I wish I could go!

  263. 2. The AMPAS music committee hasn’t ruled T4M inelligilbe. Tom O’Neil may write for the LA Times but that does not make him the ‘decider’ .

Q3 clearly Tom O’Neil is not the “decider,” but if he states categorically that TFM is ineligible, I would assume that, as a writer for the L.A. Times and an Oscar expert, he is not just making it up. I think it’s safe to assume that he has researched it and has sources.

The question raised by Tom O’Neil is if T4M was written specifically for 2012. The entire basis for this question is that one of the song co-writers passed away on July 2, 2008, and the film when into production in August 2008.

The entire basis for whom? I don’t know how you can know what O’Neil is basing his statement on. The enitre basis for my skepticism is because the song was written long before there WAS a movie. It has nothing to do with when Natasha died.

T4M was not published, recorded, performed or even copyrighted before July 2009. It was recorded specifically for the film.

This, as I have already stated in an earlier post, is incorrect. TFM was copyrighted in mid-2007. Many weeks ago somebody tracked that information down and posted it on this blog,

  264. As usual, Adam’s interview skills were perfect. As a 27 year old newbie to all of this, I’m constantly amazed at how well he presents himself. As an entertainer, he’s off the charts. Sure, his vocals weren’t up to his usual standards during the AMA’s, but that’s truly the only time in the last year that I have felt that way…..and I would hate to admit how many performances I have watched between pre-Idol, during Idol, and the Idol tour.

As far as the Oscars….who knows? Industry professionals sure love Adam. When you’ve got them all on your side, mountains can be moved. He’s already done things that no 1st place, let alone 2nd place American Idol has had the opportunity to do so quickly.

If I’ve learned anything in the last year, it’s that all the so called “rules” changed when Adam Lambert hit that Idol stage and I really think we haven’t seen anything yet.

  265. But I also dont understand why anyone thinks he would even be asked to perform there? Why does alot of his fans thinks he should be entitled to do things that usually aren’t offered to performers until they are more established artists?

Because Adam is a super, mega rock god (per Kara DioGuardi) with unparalleled album sales. When hype is manufactured on American Idol, it never dies. Fans expect the hype to immediately materialize in every way imaginable.

I suspect because he has a song in a major motion picture. If Zac Efron and Vanessa (last name?) sang last year, I am assuming it was because of the High School musicial movies. If Adam wasn’t connected to 2012, I don’t think anyone would think there would be any chance at all that Adam would be asked to perform.

  266. Didn’t see the show, so I didn’t know Whoopi had weighed in since she wasn’t there. I was curious though.

Whoopi Goldberg, who wasn’t at the interview taping, started this morning’s live show by gently suggesting the whole controversy might have already died if ABC hadn’t subsequently cancelled Lambert’s appearances on several shows.

“ABC is keeping this a lot more alive than anyone else,” Goldberg cracked. “But that’s just me.”

    http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2009/12/10/2009-12-10_adam_lambert_on_the_view_better_singing_but_nothing_else_new_of_note.html

  267. I would just die to go to this NYE performance!! It ain’t happen. Too far away and what would I do with the kiddies?

Sending out prayers that a kind soul will videotape it for the rest of us!!

@tlkfusion CONFIRMED!!!! ADAM LAMBERT IS HEADLINING GRIDLOCK NEW YEARS EVE AT PARAMOUNT STUDIOS!!!!! PURCHASE TICKETS AT http://www.wanttickets.com/gridlock

I would be careful that this is not a prank to get people to buy tickets. The website still does not have him listed as a performer and He has not confirmed it. Anyone think of buying tickets I would wait until one of the two happen first

  269. I love Adam, he’s my favorite singer… by FAR… but!

He’s really not getting it! or he really doesn’t care about his younger fans.. STOP with the “I’m not a baby sitter” bullshit… fine if he wants to let down and LOSE all those young fans, which is a crazy.. CRAZY mistake! I hate the “NO, I’m not sorry”..

We all get a little crazy sometimes, but your career isn’t the place for it! he’s losing so many fans, and that kills me because I love the guys talent, and I know he’s a good person, who cares if you get your freak on? just don’t do it (NOBODY SHOULD) on national tv.

UNLESS you’re fine with losing millions of fans.

I don’t care what you say, that lost him MILLIONS of fans, those younger kids loved him. Worry about the fans Adam, not what people think about your life outside of performing, or screw everybody and lose the dream.

  270. <blockquote@tlkfusion CONFIRMED!!!! ADAM LAMBERT IS HEADLINING GRIDLOCK NEW YEARS EVE AT PARAMOUNT STUDIOS!!!!!

How exciting for Adam fans! When the Killer’s headlined they did a ton of songs per my cousin who was there. We could get another WWFM on ABC or with this potentially a bonanza of you tubes of songs from the album.

  271. lorenzo, You spoke my mind.
I have posted many times in the past on this site, eliminate under-21 fans from his fanbase is not a good career strategy.

  272. blockquote@tlkfusion CONFIRMED!!!! ADAM LAMBERT IS HEADLINING GRIDLOCK NEW YEARS EVE AT PARAMOUNT STUDIOS!!!!!

Who will he kiss on NYE? (sorry can’t resist)

  273. “I don’t care what you say, that lost him MILLIONS of fans, those younger kids loved him.”

When I was a few years younger and a young fan the more outrageous and over the top a performer was and is the more I would love their every move. If the under 14 set of American Idol fans were allowed to go to the tour they would have a pretty good idea who Adam is.

And performing is where you let your freak flag fly. Hell didn’t Miley Cyrus dance around a stripper pole. Besides I don’t think Adam wants to sing lullabys and tuck little ones in bed because that is what parents do. Adam wants to perform for people who like what he likes.

  274. Who will he kiss on NYE? (sorry can’t resist)

    Anybody he wants!

  275. I don’t care what you say, that lost him MILLIONS of fans, those younger kids loved him.’

I really don’t think he lost millions. If any. Maybe some potential on the fence fans but that is about it. Any that he may have lost he seems to be picking up some after the View performance and Interview. His album and single sale have increase for all of them by large leaps and keeps rising on Itunes and Amazon

  276. But wow, I guess they wouldn’t be allowed to do that in a public school these days, huh?

I teach in a public schoool and my classroom does it every year. We approach it as different cultural ways to celebrate different holidays. The kids love it!

  277. Adam is extremely relevant even though he is less established then some others. Relevance is sometimes more important than experience.

Agree. Adam hasn’t paid his dues but his talent and star power are undeniable. Peeps in the industry love him, open doors for him, give him unprecedent opportunities – no questions asked. It is clear, at least to me, they will not let him go down unless he becomes incorrigible and self-implodes. So, Adam not singing at the Academy Awards is not a given, imo. Granted, it’s a stretch, but not totally out of the realm of possibility.

Adam was not only there to sing the National Anthem, although it is the only snippet shown.

Assume you mean there was another purpose in Adam being there in addition to his singing the SSB. PR perhaps as he was accompanied by his usual handlers – Lane and the PR guy Roger. Per those who were there – if you check twitter – Adam only sang one song – the SSB.

@ravengirl57 He only sang one song – S.S.B.

    http://twitter.com/glaminatrix

  278. Also has anyone actually read the lyrics on Adam’s songs. If I was a parent no one under the age of 14 would even get to listen to his music if they understood what the lyrics were all about. I am sure Adam would be tickled pink to let David Archuleta or Allison Iraheta have these tweeny fans.

  279. Mrs. P..

Ring of Fire wasn’t a “lullaby” even “Crawl through fire” was out there but fine… you know he went overboard for the youngsters… nobody wants him to change, just use his head and think (the one on his shoulders), again these kids are his future, he can be funky, but sticking your thang in a guys face and grinding, and the stuff with the girl etc… c’mon? I don’t care what you say, his killing his career with this sh!T attitude, and that scares me, I want him to rock our world for many years to come… sorry if this double post..

  280. He’s really not getting it! or he really doesn’t care about his younger fans.. STOP with the ‘I’m not a baby sitter’ bullshit’ ¦ fine if he wants to let down and LOSE all those young fans, which is a crazy.. CRAZY mistake! I hate the ‘NO, I’m not sorry’ ..

OK so which kid is no longer a fan of Adam’s because he doesn’t want to be their babysitter and tell them what to do??? I guess I am missing this or my kids are a little more rebellious. They would think that is KEWL! Now, parents on the other hand, would want him to babysit the kids and promise not to do the naughty so they don;t have to. He might lose PARENTS as fans but I doubt he loses kids as fans b/c he won’t apologize on the playground or promise to play nice.

  281. By the way, on ontd_ai they are saying that the Katy Perry stuff from last year’s Gridlock Event WAS televised on the NBC NYE broadcast. So it’s possible one of the network NYE broadcasts will carry Adam’s performance — or at least part of it. This could even be a way to sneak him onto the Dick Clark Rockin’ New Year’s Eve show

  282. Who will he kiss on NYE? (sorry can’t resist)

    Where does the line start?

I was in a show recently which was saddled with the label “Contains mature content”. When I explained just what was involved in the show to a group pf elementary school teachers, one replied “Haven’t these folks ever listend to a rap CD?” Another said. “my fourth -graders could tell you these things happen to them in their real lives.

I’m with Whoopi, if such a big deal wasn’t being made of all of this it would be a non-issue by now. There have been scads of posts here where folks have said their children love Adam’s music and either don’t care or don’t get that there is anything ‘wrong” with it.

  284. @tlkfusion CONFIRMED!!!! ADAM LAMBERT IS HEADLINING GRIDLOCK NEW YEARS EVE AT PARAMOUNT STUDIOS!!!!! PURCHASE TICKETS AT http://www.wanttickets.com/gridlock

First they tweeted that Adam was headlining last night. Then they almost immediately pulled the tweet. then they sent out another tweet asking who peeps thought should headline, kinda mocking people for starting rumors.Everyone who saw the initial tweet, including myself, was not too happy in their replies. I was tracking replies to them, then they somehow blocked the ability to see tweets made to them. Now they just made this announcement. It’s all very weird, but it does sound like something Adam would be perfect for.

Someone here mentioned that last year Conan showed Katy Perry, performing at Gridlock, on his New Years show, so we might see Adam. And I am sure we’ll get lots of vids on You Tube.

  285. I highly doubt Adam has eliminated under 21 fans from his AMA performance. Children under 14 should not have been watching (per the TV-14 rating) and their parents should have considered the nature of this show (especially after seeing acts before his). Those children will most likely move on to the next American Idol competitors next year.

Any “children” over 14 who are interested in Adam will certainly find a way to see him, or get his music (hello youtube). And if their parents tell them they can’t, they’ll make sure to try even harder. Oh, and I wouldn’t consider those who are 18-21 to be children, that’s pretty funny.

Adam was never going to be a “Disneyland” type of performer – didn’t people see the pictures and youtubes of his performances before Idol????

  286. By the way, on ontd_ai they are saying that the Katy Perry stuff from last year’s Gridlock Event WAS televised on the NBC NYE broadcast. So it’s possible one of the network NYE broadcasts will carry Adam’s performance ‘” or at least part of it. This could even be a way to sneak him onto the Dick Clark Rockin’ New Year’s Eve show

That’s something to be hopeful about! :)

  287. Adam was never going to be a ‘Disneyland’ type of performer ‘“ didn’t people see the pictures and youtubes of his performances before Idol????

Yep, and I loved it all! :)

  288. I would be careful that this is not a prank to get people to buy tickets. The website still does not have him listed as a performer and He has not confirmed it. Anyone think of buying tickets I would wait until one of the two happen first

Well AO sent out a message by the Mods that they would only update appearances on Wednesdays from now on unless something suddenly came up.

From your post to God’s eye’s girlygirl! :-) Or at least Dick Clark’s eyes

  290. This was tweeted just before the announcement regarding Adam I thought it was strange that they would tweet about this, but if there is a chance it would get televised, then it makes more sense.

tlkfusion Tune into Rockin New Years Eve on ABC!!!
about 4 hours ago from web

  291. I’m glad Adam has a gig for NYE but I have to join those in being disappointed for him. It should have been on national television in front of millions and not in some sound studio at Paramount. A hard lesson learned for him I guess.

  292. It looks like RuPaul wants to be in the kissing line too (LOL)

@adamlambert Adam you are on RuPaul’s Christmas Wish List! Who do you most want to smooch on New Year’s Eve? Adam Lambert

  293. tlkfusion Tune into Rockin New Years Eve on ABC!!!
about 4 hours ago from web

Yep, now why would they tweet this first???

  294. As a mother and new grandma, I can tell you that kids as early as 10-12 years old are not surprised or phased by the sort of movements in FYE. Hell, girls in middle school are actually giving bj’s, and the parents that don’t think this is true need to get their head out of their bibles and talk with the kids. There WAS a TV-14 rating on the performance, and so any parent that allows their kid to watch a show with that rating must take responsibility if the child sees something warranting that rating. This “what about the kids” argument is lame.

THIS IS NOT TRUE. IT’S NOT ON THEIR WEBSITE AND IT’S NOT CONFIRMED UNTIL ADAM OFFICIAL HAS IT ON THEIR SITE, PER THE RCA MODS.

that is why I said before to be careful and I don’t trust it. Adam has not tweeted about it and I am sure if it where true he would and when you go on the site to get tickets he is not mentioned on the lineup. I think they would make sure he was listed.

I’m glad Adam has a gig for NYE but I have to join those in being disappointed for him. It should have been on national television in front of millions and not in some sound studio at Paramount. A hard lesson learned for him I guess.

Maybe Katy Perry can comment on how hard a lesson it is. She played the event last NYE. When she was nominated as Grammy Best Female Vocal

Adam’ll probably think that it’s pretty cool that people are willing to spend 150.00 – 3500.00 per ticket.

  298. “It should have been on national television in front of millions and not in some sound studio at Paramount.”

Considering the most people are too drunk to know who is performing on New Years a TV gig, though great, is not the ultimate. If anyone can tell me who was on last New Years at Fox, NBC, and ABC and what they sang I’ll be surprised.

This may not be the ultimate gig but it is a nice one. And hopefully Adam and his band will get to do a real set list. Whereas the televised shows are only a song or two from each performer. Aren’t there like 8 or 9 acts on New Years shows?

  299. Just stopped into my Walmart and couldn’t find FYE. They had it release day, but today nothing in the front or in the L’s. They did have copies of Take One tucked behind Lady Gaga.

Are the millions of fans he lost the same ones who would freak out if he releases ‘Fever’ as a single? It’s okay to have sex Adam, but don’t remind me what kind of sex you have. Ok then.

And before I get the response of just don’t do it on tv, soap operas simulate more sex than a two second face rub on a fully clothed man.

    I guess I’m just irritated I couldn’t find another cd :(

  300. I hope all the people that tweeted Sherry and Elisabeth before Adam’s appearance, tweet their thanks to them. They were so welcoming and kind to him.

  301. OK so which kid is no longer a fan of Adam’s because he doesn’t want to be their babysitter and tell them what to do???

definetly not me.amd most people I know didn’t
each watch the ama’s and don’t know about the ‘scandal’.

you make an excellent point-he might lose some parents as fans

  302. Just stopped into my Walmart and couldn’t find FYE. They had it release day, but today nothing in the front or in the L’s.

Now, is this one of those made up stories that causes peeps to look at their watches waiting for them?

  303. Some new old pic of Adam

Those were great. I’m amazed that I’ve only seen one of those before.

Someday I hope we have a big book of Adam’s amazing photos. It would be huge.

  304. I think this is absolutely beautiful and wish he can wear something like this in the future. ymmv

As usual, Adam’s interview skills were perfect. As a 27 year old newbie to all of this, I’m constantly amazed at how well he presents himself. As an entertainer, he’s off the charts. Sure, his vocals weren’t up to his usual standards during the AMA’s, but that’s truly the only time in the last year that I have felt that way’ ¦..and I would hate to admit how many performances I have watched between pre-Idol, during Idol, and the Idol tour.

As far as the Oscars’ ¦.who knows? Industry professionals sure love Adam. When you’ve got them all on your side, mountains can be moved. He’s already done things that no 1st place, let alone 2nd place American Idol has had the opportunity to do so quickly.

If I’ve learned anything in the last year, it’s that all the so called ‘rules’ changed when Adam Lambert hit that Idol stage and I really think we haven’t seen anything yet.

excellennt observation ITA Adam is the “face of a new generation” :)

  306. Another quote from Stephen Spielberg-AWWWWW!

    From People.com
As for Spielberg, who was receiving an honor that in the past has been given to such towering figures as John F. Kennedy and Eleanor Roosevelt, the presence of the American Idol runner-up helped keep things in perspective.

Joked the Oscar-winner, “The only things my kids remember from this evening was that this was the night I met Adam Lambert.”

  307. IMHO – Adam is not a babysitter. I love that he states that fact simply and clearly. He is a performer, an artist. This is his life and his career. He will be living his life long after some people (here and elsewhere) move on to other musical interest. I know that as fans, we would all like him to do our own personal playlist. Sweet..no sexy, emo..no elvis, ballad..no rock..and on and on. He is not Sesame Street or Disney. If you want that, you know what channel to turn to. People love that he is exciting and “pushing buttons” musicaly and socially. I love that about him. I don’t want “same old, same old”, and from day one we knew that was not what we were gonnna get.
If you enjoy some of his music..great! download those tunes. You don’t like the lyrics of other stuff?..don’t. Parents..you decide for your own kids.
I would be heartbroken if this amazing talent tailored his musical expression to “feed the masses”. The airwaves are loaded w/ that stuff already. I want honest, true, amazing, surprising, exciting, sexy, and unfiltered Adam! I want my buttons pushed! What about you?

p.s…..I’m 56. My first concert in 7th grade was Jim Morrison and the Doors! (check those lyrics for sexual content! ..didn’t scar me!) My senoir high school class song was Led Zeppelin ” Stairway to Heaven” . I’ve seen a bit in these years and gotta tell you, have not been this excited by a new artist since then. Artist like this don’t come around that often people! Take a breath, relax and enjoy!

  308. To everyone posting saying “what about the kids excuse is lame.”Well it isn’t, I’m 19 and when I was in middle school, yeah it was some of the kids in school having sex, some, not all. It wasn’t even the majority. It just seems like the majority is having sex because that is what media is protraying young people right now. And just because some is doing it, doesn’t mean its right or okay to show it on tv.

Were their kids watching that have had sex before..of course, was there kids watching that haven’t had sex before..of course. I think sex talk should be between the parent and the child. Not tv and the child.

  309. Not sure if this was talked about earlier, but Barbara Walters really seems to be a fan of Adam’s. Putting Adam on two of her shows on the very network she works for but banned him, seems to indicate both how much power she has and what she thinks about him. Kudos to BW for getting in to the conversation how his actions basically paled in the scheme of things going on in the world, “and that voice” comment, etc. I feel she really attempted to put Adam in a positive light to the audience. I also feel Elisabeth was kind to him in agreeing with AL that it was close to 11pm, and it’s the parents’ responsibility to monitor their kids tv viewing. I still remember long before the AMAs, when AL was coming off AI, people hoping he’d get on Ellen, and every other show but the View. Funny how things turn out! I thought Adam looked a bit tired, which is understandable, but came off as staying true to what he believes but making sure to state he did not intend to disrespect or offend anyone b/c that is not him. Him being a “nice guy” was brought up by the hosts and I really feel BW (and EH) did a nice job presenting AL to their tv audience. AL sounded excellent and was as articulate and charming as ever! Nice job all around!

  310. Mainegal…..

Luv ya and agree with everything you said. It’s a good day.

  311. No really, I’m not making it up! I stopped in to buy another copy for someone at work who is a new Adam fan, loved the AMA performance. Thought the kiss was hot. They had two Kris CDs and 6 Allison. Now this is a pretty redneck walmart and they probably had 10 out the day I bought my first copy. It’s possible they didn’t restock.

I did however see two people grab Subo’s cd while I was searching. Should have taken a picture or something, lol

  312. sr4mjc just janking on you. Apparently from seasons past, fans claimed that the stores ran out of their favorites CD and that was the reason their sales were down. And apparently, those claims were made up stories. But i do believe you. There were only 2 left at my Walmart Sunday.

  313. ” ¦And let’s not be too xenocentric, either ‘“ the rest of the really big ‘real world’ is super excited about and loving on Adam and his music (New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Dubai, Israel).
The puritanical, prudish response of some Americans baffles them, but they’re more than ready to welcome Adam.’

    Ditto!
    Brasil loves Adam!!!

  314. thanks luval…it is a good day! ( have noticed you…like the way you think)

  315. Someone needs to tweet that jeans picture to Dior. Seriously, that is stunning.

  316. Another strange tweet:

SadaoTurner At 19 Ent. once again…doing a quick little ditty w/ @adamlambert. I love the offices…place looks like it was designed by howard hughes

What little ditty? Isn’t this the guy who announced some of the Ryan Seacrest related news-both true and false?

  317. I hope whatever NYE gig Adam may get is televised because not only has Adam’s life changed but mine did the moment he took the AI stage. It would only be fitting to close this year out with him on my screen.

  318. OMG, I just read the Michele Collins article, and I am laughing my butt off right now!!! Charmicide? hhaha Adam Lambert is the male equivlent of the mythological Sirens, leaving dazed femle fans and talk show harpies in his lethal wake. Resistance is futile. This is why I think the Head Siren is going to be HUGE.

  319. I saw that tweet. Who is SadaoTurner??

I think he is some kind of PR person for Ryan Seacrest

Yes he was the one who tweeted a bit of false information that Rickey posted and then had to retract, I don’t even remember what it was any more.

  320. If Adam did a televised New Years show, I would worry the whole time about what he was doing, how he was doing it, and who with. I think its better that he be in front of an ADULT audience, and I am sure we will get to see it in some capacity. From the gridlock website, the headliner puts on a regular concert-just think, he can do many songs off his album without fear of censorship. I hope it a true “rumor”.

  321. I think sex talk should be between the parent and the child. Not tv and the child.

I agree with this one part of your post. Parents should have the sex talk, and before their child reaches 14. I think a lot of people (and Adam fans) think the “crotch nuzzle” part of the performance was maybe a little too far (and ABC did too since they cut that out for the West Coast and should have IMO cut it out for everyone since they had a problem with it due to the time).

My kids are in their 20s now but if they were teens, I would have no problem with them seeing the “kiss” – I think it’s about time that people accept same-sex kissing so it doesn’t have the stigma and hate associated with it. And if some teens saw this performance and it started a dialogue with their parents about same-sex kissing and sexual behavior, I think it’s a good thing.

Should parents monitor their minor children’s TV viewing? Yes. But it’s not up to a performer to scale his/her performance because there might be some parents who are not so vigilant.

Wasn’t that awesome! “Charmicide” is my new favorite word. :)

If you go to the website-there is a video from the Gridlock NYE. Looks like Adam could get away with about anything there. Wild party crowd

  325. If Adam did a televised New Years show, I would worry the whole time about what he was doing, how he was doing it, and who with.

    Simple then’ ¦don’t watch it!

But I would want to see it if Adam was performing? I was just saying that I thought an off-network gig wouldn’t worry me as much..I would rather watch Adam uncensored.

  326. Where’s the link for the Michelle Collins thingy? too lazy to search backwards.

  327. To everyone posting saying ‘what about the kids excuse is lame.’ Well it isn’t, I’m 19 and when I was in middle school, yeah it was some of the kids in school having sex, some, not all. Kids have been having sex too early since long before television or media or anything else related to mass communication was invented.

  328. I’m just a little fed up w/ the hand-wringling and pearl clutching, and worrying , and “what about the kids” crap.

edit: If you plan to post here, you are going to need to learn to respect other’s opinions. Sniping at fellow posters will earn you a spot in moderation

Kids have been having sex too early since long before television or media or anything else related to mass communication was invented.

    ______________________________________________________

I know that…I’m just saying that the media is protraying that ALL teens and/or preteens are having sex at a young age and that isn’t so. Alot of older people think that ALL young people or the majority is bad because of what they hear on the news about us or what they see on a teen tv show. I’m just saying not every girl or guy or even the majority in middle school is having sex.

  330. But I would want to see it if Adam was performing? I was just saying that I thought an off-network gig wouldn’t worry me as much..I would rather watch Adam uncensored.

It looks like a super fun party. If I lived in the LA area, I’d be all over it. If I’m reading things correctly, even the $150 ticket includes an open bar. And there will be food (pizza, etc.). For those interested in better quality food, the $250 ticket adds a dinner buffet plus some other goodies. Not bad for an all-inclusive NYE party + Adam (maybe).

  331. “You know when I was nervous for him, though? On that clip with Justin Beiber where they were all doing that fist-punching straight dude stuff, and I sensed on Adam that really wasn’t his comfort zone- but still, he made the effort to be ‘one of the boys’ (and added glitz and the snap of his fingers), and I was actually a little moved that they all seemed so sincerely supportive of him (come to think of it- they treated him like guys treat girls sometimes, you know, when the girls are trying to learn a boys game- and all the boys are really patient with the girl, because they know she has no experience doing these stuff? That’s the vibe I got from them- that they were really patient and supporting this very special boy’ ¦ (I think I need therapy)”
mr. I felt the same after I watched that clip…worried that he will not fit in as one of the dudes. Does this means I need therapy too? LOL

  332. Like he just can’t be an ‘artist’ , he’s got to be G-rated or something.

Piss on that. He never said he’d be a family friendly crooner, and his previous work showed that he wouldn’t. Why on Earth anyone thought he would be is beyond me.

  333. One of the sponsors is Clear Channel. And there are several LA DJ’s there also. It would be great exposure for Adam.

New tweet from LA DJ Manny on the Street
@tlkfusion just confirmed the biggest NYE party on west coast Headliner Adam Lambert, Pam Anderson, Kevin Rudolf, 10 djs and all u can drink

  334. I know that’ ¦I’m just saying that the media is protraying that ALL teens and/or preteens are having sex at a young age and that isn’t so. Alot of older people think that ALL young people or the majority is bad because of what they hear on the news about us or what they see on a teen tv show. I’m just saying not every girl or guy or even the majority in middle school is having sex.

It was the same way back when I was in school in the 80’s.The more things change, the more they stay the same. Unfortunately, most adults view their youth through the rose colored classes of nostalgia, and tend to forget how things really were as kids, good and bad.

  335. Ignoring the trolls as per MJs rules!

Uhm. Mentioning them is NOT ignoring them. Just so you know.

I’m going through this thread now. Deleting and editing as usual. Frustrated that there are long-time posters who stubbornly ignore my guidelines.

They may not all be having sex, but they sure as heck pretty much all know about sex, and I don’t mean straight missionary-position sex. Oprah and Seventeen Mag did a show on teen sex this year, with early teenagers, and many of them don’t even consider a BJ to be sex … they think it preserves their “virginity” and it is also a form of birth control to them … BJ’s don’t get you pregnant.

So I frankly don’t think most teens would be surprised by anything a fully-clothed performer would do … it’s the in-denial parents who were upset. And if they are that concerned about what their “children” are watching, they should have paid attention to the TV-14 rating of the AMA Broadcast.

  337. To be honest, I knew a lot more about sex at 5 then most teenagers did, certainly didn’t make me a sex addict when the time came. I waited til a few years after high school, so never really got the whole, “think of the children” excuses. Seemed to me, it was the kids that were left to figure it out themselves that got into the most trouble with sex.

  338. Damn, Adam at an all you can drink. So not fair to be living in FL.

While you are there Adam, make sure you get a couple of movie roles in that Paramount contract. Nice!!

  339. sr4mjc-LOL! Wouldn’t we all like to be there to take advantage. Actually I am in FL too near Tampa. He is going to be at the Jingle Ball here on Sunday and I simply can’t afford to go. So near and yet so far.

  340. Keep trying 93.3, they are giving lots of tickets away. I’m going, but it’s the only thing I asked Santa for. I think Adam will hold his own with the local morning crew, although the host (no name not to add confusion) doesn’t like him .

  341. I’m hoping that Adam or Adam handlers aren’t reading some of the posts that are encouraging Adam to do “raunchy” or R-rated performances. Because if they do, Adam will be committing career suicide before his career even takes off.

Yeah, Adam’s gay & he came “out” & told us so…nothing wrong with that. From a career standpoint &, JMO, I think it was a mistake, but I still applaud & admire his honesty & courage. However, Adam can’t act out on stage. It’s not cutting edge.

It offends & alienates the majority of people out there & he needs every single fan he can get since he’s not an established performer yet.
Elton John didn’t flaunt his sexuality & most people will not casually accept what, in their minds, they perceive as deviant behavior. There aren’t many people out there who will accept a performer sticking another guy’s face in his “mangina!” The way Adam performed on AI is what me &many others want to see from his performances…edgy, yes, but do not cross the line because he’ll only be hurting himself in the long run.

Unfortuantely, Adam has already tainted himself &, hopefully he’ll be able to reverse the ill will he’s created among a segment of his fans. I can only hope.

  342. “Considering the most people are too drunk to know who is performing on New Years a TV gig, though great, is not the ultimate. If anyone can tell me who was on last New Years at Fox, NBC, and ABC and what they sang I’ll be surprised.”

Well, on ABC Dick Clark made an appearance, but since his stroke Ryan Seacrest does most of the hosting. Ryan cohosted with Kellie Pickler. I don’t remember if she sang, but Taylor Swift did.

Was that the Oscars or the Tony’s that Hugh Jackman emceed (last year?)? He sang a long duet with Ann Hathaway who is of course a well known actress, but up until that point the general public had no idea she could sing. So anything is possible regarding Adam and the Oscars or the Tonys. I’m not saying it will happen, but on the other hand I wouldn’t be surprised either.

Regarding NYE and Adam, unfortunately if he does get too risque even at a non-televised event there will be clips all over, not just YouTube, but on television too. I think he has to be kind of careful for awhile. The media is obsessed with him, even old fogies like Bill O’Reilly seemingly can’t get enough :)

  343. The way Adam performed on AI is what me &many others want to see from his performances

What about what Adam wants? I do believe it is his life, and his career, or am I mistaken?

  344. Oh yeah. The host of the event is Pamela Anderson. lol

wow… looking at the prices this event is EXPENSIVE! Who the heck can afford to go??!!

  345. Now on the Ticket Purchase site so I guess it’s official

Its official!! Adam is headlining Gridlock’s New Year’s Eve Event!!

    http://www.ainow.org/index.php/top-stories/1511-adam-lambert-to-headline-gridlock-2010

the group organizing this also does Dick Clarks NYE Party as well. The camera might go back and forth a bit so we can get a glimpse of Adam. :) Being named the headliner is great!!

So it is True…wow wish I lived in LA. Fanny Pak is performing too from ABDC I love them. Very original. Matt Cady should choreograph for Adam.
Adam Headlining is great too. I am sure there will be video all over the internet. (maybe even VEVO) Just hope people aren’t too drunk and can hold the camera steady. LOL

  348. The way Adam performed on AI is what me &many others want to see from his performances’ ¦edgy, yes, but do not cross the line because he’ll only be hurting himself in the long run.

the way Adam performed crawl thru fire in the zodiac show is what me & many others want to see. but are we all going to get our way? i don’t think so. after all there is only one Adam. he is not going to satisfy all his fans , no artist does. and believe it or not it wld not end in carry suicide cos the fans that like raunchy wld support him likewise if he goes all PG, those fans that like that wld support him. it’s that simple.

  349. How can Adam being out be a career mistake? All one has to do is google Adam and it’s pretty obvious he hasn’t been ‘in’ in quite some time. If anything it woul be career suicide to pretend to be straight.

I love me some Adam, but he played the gayest Fiyero I’ve ever seen. Sang the part beautifully though.

  350. I just want to say that the background set they had for Adam to sing on The View was really nice! Looks like they went all out on it for him. He and the glamband looked and sounded great.

  351. The way Adam performed on AI is what me &many others want to see from his performances

What about what Adam wants? I do believe it is his life, and his career, or am I mistaken?

It’s Adam’s career but since his career is in the entertainment industry, he has to consider the people that he is entertaining. He was thinking about what the fans he had in AI want during the production of FYE album, and that’s why we have such an eclectic album. He is learning to balance what he wants and what his fans want, which is very difficult imo because his fans are diversified.

  352. I just want to say that the background set they had for Adam to sing on The View was really nice! Looks like they went all out on it for him. He and the glamband looked and sounded great.

    The set was great!

  353. To sealily1c…I was under the impression that Adam wanted a successful musical career. We, the American public, make a performer successful. We have the ability to make or break careers.

If he alienates the majority of his fans & the networks…he ain’t got nothing. Make no mistake…Adam lost a lot of sales because of his performance on the AMA. If he keeps that up, his career will be short-lived.

  354. If he alienates the majority of his fans & the networks’ ¦he ain’t got nothing. Make no mistake’ ¦Adam lost a lot of sales because of his performance on the AMA. If he keeps that up, his careeer will be short-lived.

That’s making a presumptuous statement. We have no idea what the majority want, nor just how many fans he lost, or possibly gained. Unless you have some secret proof the rest of us have yet to see?

  355. Make no mistake’ ¦Adam lost a lot of sales because of his performance on the AMA

How can “a lot of sales” be quantified. Maybe there were people who don’t like post idol music as a rule, but saw Adam on the AMA’s and thought he was different from the norm, and they ended up buying the album. It can work both ways.

  356. Adam lost a lot of sales because of his performance on the AMA. If he keeps that up, his careeer will be short-lived.

there’s actually no stats to support this. we don’t know for sure if he lost sales or if he gained sales. I think Adam made it clear on the view today, he is no longer in a talent show, it is not AI anymore, it’s his career now . i don’t think he is alienating the majority of his fans. from all the message blogs/ twitter etc it is a minority of his fans still holding on to his idol performances where he was performing other people’s songs..

  357. And international media has the story and doesn’t get what the issue is. Without that performance they may not have noticed. And they love to poke fun at the pearl clutching Americans. Big win!

  358. To Hermetically sealed: What? Just go on other message boards or read the comments people have posted in response to articles that have casually brushed aside Adam’s AMA performance. If you had read the comments on the MSN after his performance, you’d know the majority of them weren’t “glowing” reviews and most of them stated they would not be buying his album now.

Many of my co-workers who were Adam fans & voted for him have been turned off….not to mention some of my own friends & family.

And, no, they weren’t on the fence or quasi fans. They just don’t want his sexuality thrown in their faces…it distracts from his amazing vocals.

  359. Sorry, but I’ve seen just the opposite, so it’s pretty irrelevant. Without actual numbers it’s merely anecdotal, not necessarily truth.

Seriously, I know very few people who got what the big deal is. As for internet postings. Sorry, but most people don’t comment online. And as it is, unhappy people will always be more likely to bitch, than those who aren’t.

  360. They just don’t want his sexuality thrown in their faces’ ¦it distracts from his amazing vocals.

Yeah, cuz da guy on guy thing is just ewwww. But all of the girl on girl stuff is sexay……..and it doesn’t matter if they can sing or not. I get it now.

  361. Anyone who doesn’t want to see Adam being sexual can listen to the cd and not go to the tour. Let’s not cut the guys balls off.

Did they see the microphone love on the tour?

  362. There are people/fans who loved Adam before the AMA’s and still love him now. There are industry people who have been super supportive of Adam before and after the AMA’s.

Randy Jackson said that he thought it was time for someone like Adam on American Idol. And boy did he get that right. Millions of people voted Adam in as runner-up instead of some little cookie cutter pop package.

Adam is also classy, mega talented, and charismatic.

My opinion is as valid as any one else’s and I stand by it.

  363. Anyone who doesn’t want to see Adam being sexual can listen to the cd and not go to the tour. Let’s not cut the guys balls off.

Good point! The album is fantastic! Anyone who was a fan of Adam’s on AI should love this album. One performance shouldn’t change their minds. If they don’t want to watch him perform live, that’s their perogative. Although, the crowds seemed to eat up his sexuality during the AI Tour. There are tons of those performances on You Tube. I just don’t see what the big deal is.

  364. My opinion is as valid as any one else’s and I stand by it.

    Damn right, it is!

  365. My opinion is as valid as any one else’s and I stand by it.

And that’s fine. Just don’t confuse opinion for fact. I’m sure there were people turned off by the performance, but there were people who liked it, and even here in conservative Oklahoma, there were people that said, “what was so scandalous?”. Hell, I heard people say that they liked him more because of the it. There is precedence for both, but unless someone has managed to actually track every viewer down and record their position, noone can claim to know diddly about the facts on this. Period.

  366. He dropped to #36 this week on the Global Album Charts from #7 of his first week. I’m hoping it’ll pick up next week.

  367. Listen, I voted for Adam and want to see him succeed. I never want to hear him utter the words…I could’ve been a legend! He said the AMA performance was a one time deal & he’s focusing on the music. I believe him and am encouraged and happy about his decision.

I realize that you can’t quantify if he lost sales, but I can tell you that I’ve read most…if not all…of the public’s reviews in response to articles, and no one said they were going to run out & purchase his album now. On the contrary, it was…I’m not buying his album now.

  368. Gridlock is supposed to release a press release tomorrow to make it official.

  369. Adam is an artist. If I enjoy an artists paintings I do not call or write to him and tell him how to paint or what to paint. I anticipate seeing the artists interpretation. I will not tell Adam what to sing or how to perform, I will sit back and enjoy his interpretation. He has already sold 250,000 and is half way to gold. He is doing fine and will continue to do so.

  370. There is precedence for both, but unless someone has managed to actually track every viewer down and record their position, noone can claim to know diddly about the facts on this. Period.

Well of course you are right. And I was stating my opinion! Just like people who have the opposite opinion of me. What I said was only my opinion and nothing more.

  371. Well what ever people think of the performance for themselves they can choose to buy his music or not but as far as the droves of people dropping him after the AMA, he has gained some of them back or new ones because ever since his appearance of BW 10 MFP and The View today his music has increased on the Itune charts in the past 24 hours

    On the Combined charts:

FYE the single went from #145 to #97 where it stand now
WWFM single went from #167 to #103

FYE standard Album went from #101 to #62
FYE deluxe Album went from #174 to #91

Say want you want but statistic don’t lie. Somebody liked him on the View and BW 10MFP

Oh and I found this to be funny. There is a Kradam sandwich on the Itunes pop Albums

    FYE standard album 13
    Kris Allen Standard 14
    FYE Deluxe Album 15

  372. but I can tell you that I’ve read most’ ¦if not all’ ¦of the public’s reviews in response to articles,

I’m not sure that is even humanly possible.

  373. lobbydesigner, I don’t know how you value your time. But if it was me, I won’t spend time on those comments (probably because I don’t think they are valuable) and use the time saved on something productive and then use the money made out of that to buy music that I like.

It’s a pity that you haven’t had the album because it’s a good one.

  374. And that’s fine. Just don’t confuse opinion for fact.

I couldn’t edit. So if you reread my post you will see that I purposely left out qualifiers like “most people”, or “lots of people”…. GEEZ

Grrr.. I’m so frustrated because I finally expressed an opinion and I got called on it. grrr…..

  375. And I am saying, you can’t trust going by online comments. People that are happy about something are not as likely to say anything online as those who are pissy. Not to mention, you have no idea whether they are honest comments or just trolling. It does happen.

Seriously, one freaking performance isn’t going to amount to much of anything in the long run. it’s not like he was pissing on the crowd and biting the heads off puppies.

  376. ‘You know when I was nervous for him, though? On that clip with Justin Beiber where they were all doing that fist-punching straight dude stuff, and I sensed on Adam that really wasn’t his comfort zone-

Don’t think you have to worry about Adam here.

Adam is all “dude”. Way “dude”. Ultra “dude”. Extreme Masculinity is no stranger to Adam’s world.

Justin Beiber, IMHO, represents everything wrong with music. And there is nothing masculine about him. He’s virtually child exploitation. He’s a tiny 15-yr-old whose parents let him post videos on YouTube to get “discovered”.

His entire existence is cringeworthy. And fist bumping with him would be difficult for anyone who might think “What is this child doing here????”.

Adam seemed to be going along with the inanity of the first bump thing as well as anyone could. Joining in. Doing what had to be done for these radio payola backstage video moments.. But being a pro, jumped out of the shot when the other two were doing their hand shake demonstration.

  377. The way Adam performed on AI is what me &many others want to see from his performances’ ¦edgy, yes, but do not cross the line because he’ll only be hurting himself in the long run.

    AI edgy? Which performances?

    Where is “the line”?

    And what about his preferences?

I prefer pre Idol and don’t consider even those performances edgy. I consider FYE edgy and loved it more than any other performance he’s ever done. Stipulating CTF is great, of course but I don’t consider that edgy. It’s cool and avant guard yes…

  378. lobbydesigner,

I was under the impression that Adam wanted a successful musical career.

If you have listened to him speak in countless interviews, I think Adam has made it perfectly clear that he is going be a recording artist on his own terms. He is willing to forego a 100% focus on commerciality and pursue his own style. Have you heard the album? It IS electic and different and very much Adam. He could have released a rock anthem album which might have sold considerably more, but he chose to pursue something that meant something to him, something he liked and wanted to put forth. I champion that!!!

And that very week of the “debacle”, his album sold almost 200,000 copies.

Very clearly, not everyone was alienated.

  379. Aww, just one thought about the NYE gig – I’m gonna be completely selfish about it because I just wish I could watch him perform :-( That makes me sad that he couldn’t be on ABC. I’m still angry at them for those cancellations. Hypocritical, stupid, most of the media thought it was unnecessary. And they never even justified it, especially considering it was going to be a LATE NIGHT performance.

  380. Sorry, iluvai, for some reason I read that as Lobby saying it, not you. I agree with what you said.

  381. Don’t think you have to worry about Adam here.

Adam is all ‘dude’ . Way ‘dude’ . Ultra ‘dude’ . Extreme Masculinity is no stranger to Adam’s world.

    He’s all man to me!!!

  382. Sorry, iluvai, for some reason I read that as Lobby saying it, not you.

Thank you. I was about to go off crying. I was trying to just state my opinion not in response to anyone which gets me in trouble for being defensive. No problem-o…. :)

  383. Sometimes I think if Adam was willing to compromise more he would have been famous much earlier. sigh

  384. Thank you. I was about to go off crying. I was trying to just state my opinion not in response to anyone which gets me in trouble for being defensive. No problem-o’ ¦. :)

Teach me to post while trying to fight on Final Fantasy online. :P

  385. Sometimes I think if Adam was willing to compromise more he would have been famous much earlier. sigh

Very interesting thought. The more I get to know him, and watch him perform and sing, the more I realize that what makes Adam so unique and special and fascinating, is also, alas, what keeps him from being some cleanly constructed pop star. That’s not what he’s about, nor is it what he WANTS to be. There’s always a more complex motive to his performances, the songs he’s drawn to – always walking that line between what’s expected and what will totally freak you out :-)

Frankly, I enjoy being a little freaked out every now and then. I enjoy watching others get freaked out by him even more :-)

  386. MAKE NO MISTAKE!

Make no mistake, Adam Lambert has released a critically aclaimed debut album!

Make no mistake, Adam Lambert has sold over 250K albums.

Make no mistake, Adam Lambert is on his way to GOLD…. sooner rather than later.

Make no mistake, Adam Lambert will be the first AI Season 8 Alum. to reach gold!

Make no mistake, Adam Lambert is GAINING fans by the hundreds (maybe more) as he continues to slay audience on shows like The View, Ellen, Letterman, and soon to be Leno, Conan and Chelsea Lately!

Make no mistake, Adam Lambert has just been snagged to HEADLINE a REAL stomping smash New Year’s Eve Concert for PARAMOUNT STUDIOS. Talk about Cred! A real NYE concert that sells tickets at premium pricing. That Adam was invited to headline this… is HUGE!

Make no mistake, Adam Lambert performed a beautiful, riveting Star Spangled Banner to an audience of Steven Spielberg and friends. The guest of honor, Steven Spielberg, raved about Adam.

Make no mistake, Adam Lambert performed at the recent Vevo party. The other performer… Lady Gaga. The audience…. just about anybody who’s anybody in the music biz.

Make no mistake, the View interview and performance was a hit any way you want to look at it. Good, great, WOW!

Make no mistake, Adam Lambert may lose a few “fans” as he continues to establishe himself. Make no mistake… he will gain far more than he loses!

Make no mistake, Whataya Want From Me is moving up, up, up!!

Adam’s just being himself, doing his thing, and I think it’s working out pretty well so far. There is MUCH to celebrate lately. These opportunities will continue to help Adam increase his sales, increase public and industry awareness, and increase his fanbase.

All good things in due time…. he’s getting there! And there are a boatload of wonderful, caring, loving, honest, excited, fans who are thrilled to be a part of it!

  387. Teach me to post while trying to fight on Final Fantasy online.

So if you’re a guy… it makes sense that guys can’t do two things at once. Just kidding. lol

If you’re a gal…. well cool that you are playing a game!!! It must be fun if it is distracting you from Adam! :)

  388. Fifthhousesun,

Justin Bieber…His entire existence is cringeworthy.

Agreed. That video made me as uncomfortable as Adam looked for a bit because it was so unnatural to have that little boy there. So.very. strange. [shudders]

Eekk…ever so slightly embarassing that he is Canadian and so am I.

  389. Winks8

    MAKE NO MISTAKE!

Make no mistake….I think I love you!!! Or your post at the very least

    LOL.

No, he never said it was a one time deal.

He said “it’s just one performance”. It doesn’t mean I’m going to do every song like that” “It doesn’t define me as a performer”.

I’m very excited to see it all over again. He may never do it but he definitely never said that he wasn’t going to do that performance ever again.

People will never become legends doing something they don’t like. If he becomes a legend it’ll be by being his authentic self. I’m not so sure his goal is to be a “legend”. He’s still wearing some of the same clothes he wore pre-idol LOL and doesn’t seem like the type of person who’d sell out for material possessions.

He’s never going to need a job unless he loses his psyche or has a substance problem. Other than that I’m sure he’s set for some career in the business.

Thank you. Looking back at my post… it’s a little sloppy :-). I really need to take my time when typing (or cut my nails a little.)

I don’t post too often, and I usually try to stay neutrally positive… but I’m feeling damn great these past few days. There’s so much to be really excited about — and NOTHING or NO ONE can diminish the good Adam news lately! NOTHING!!

I read most of the posts at this and another site, but I’m not real handy with all the facts and figures… but I felt like a bold post was in order tonight so I posted what I could come up with off the top of my head. This is the tip of the iceberg IMO. It’s all good.

Thanks for listening… and I love you too! :-)

  396. ‘You know when I was nervous for him, though? On that clip with Justin Beiber where they were all doing that fist-punching straight dude stuff, and I sensed on Adam that really wasn’t his comfort zone-

Really? I got the impression he was thinking: WTF are these morons doing? And then decided to be a good sport and try to play along.

  397. It took me almost the whole clip to figure out who Justin Beiber was—my gosh, he looks like a little boy! Seriously, I thought he was a fan who got to go backstage with the big kids; except that he certainly seemed to be the center of attention. That is just bizarre, he looks like he is 12.

  398. Craig Ferguson: “Barbara Walters picked Adam Lambert and Glenn Beck as two of the ten most fascinating people. One’s a gay guy who causes a big fuss on TV, and the other is Adam Lambert.”

  399. Winks8

I love your post. Awesome job. I hope MJ doesn’t get mad at me for adding nothing more to the conversation than my chorus of “way to go, Winks8”, but I felt I needed to say it.

  400. Craig Ferguson: ‘Barbara Walters picked Adam Lambert and Glenn Beck as two of the ten most fascinating people. One’s a gay guy who causes a big fuss on TV, and the other is Adam Lambert.’

    Now- that’s funny!

OhMyRarr..exactly. My impression was a grown man surrounded by some juvenile behavior who gracioiusly played along…and in the process taught them all a little glitz! he was not “out of his comfort zone”..he’s been “around the block” so to say..don’t think that peticular group was intimidating to him at all.

thanks crazedemcee /etal…best laugh of my day..and I needed it.

  404. Winks8 – loved your post and I agree – this has been a great week and full of win for Adam. Hopefully the View today was the tipping point, and the AMA performance (whether you loved it or hated it) will be put for rest.

What I’d love to see, is FYE redux at the NYE gig. I bet we will see it – only better this time. The only thing that I don’t feel 100% ecstatic about is that he will have very little time to rehearse and get comfortable with several songs. It seems that he gets better and better each time they perform WWFM. Sucks that his opportunity for the mini-concerts with GMA and Kimmel was stolen by ABC. Adam and his band will get no rest between now and the NYE concert!

  405. It took me almost the whole clip to figure out who Justin Beiber was’”my gosh, he looks like a little boy! Seriously, I thought he was a fan who got to go backstage with the big kids; except that he certainly seemed to be the center of attention. That is just bizarre, he looks like he is 12.

He is a little boy! I thought he was a girl when I heard him on the radio. Not to diss Justin. He is just a kid though….

  406. I don’t get the hate for Justin Beiber. He is just a kid (who is my son’s age) who is confident and talented. Geez.

  407. so to say..don’t think that peticular group was intimidating to him at all.

Bored yes, intimidating no. He has had to deal with guy guys for a long time.

Bleh… I hate what I wrote. Adam is all guy. You go babe.

  408. I don’t get the hate for Justin Beiber. He is just a kid (who is my son’s age) who is confident and talented. Geez.

I don’t have hate. I’m just decades older and when a teeny bopper sings (a silly song) it is kind of cringe worthy to me. “One Less Lonely Girl”…. so if he likes the girl there is one less lonely girl….Uggghhh….. are girls lonely without 15 year old boyfriends, nope!

  409. iluvai… But, we’re talking about an obnoxous 12? 14? yo.
IMO he was graciously playing along. This incident was so below the level of Adam ‘s adult day to day professional interaction.

  410. So last year Katy Perry made her official announcement by Dec. 13th:

Katy Perry has confirmed that she will be spending new year’s eve at Hollywood’s Paramount Lot for a live concert with Gridlock. “Fans camping with me on New Years Eve. Its put on by this group called Gridlock,” she said. ….

Oh look, confirmation that it WAS the Hollywood lot. It’s a movie lot that is made to look like NYC.

    Hmmmmm….

adam still on tv? bc katy perry was pretaped on the carson daly show and this sounds very familiar!

  411. iluvai’ ¦ But, we’re talking about an obnoxous 12? 14? yo.

I’m not sure what you are referring to that I posted. This must be my day to be misunderstood. :( (or I’m being inarticulate… )

I think Adam was a good sport with Justin Beiber.

To Hermetically sealed: What? Just go on other message boards or read the comments people have posted in response to articles that have casually brushed aside Adam’s AMA performance. If you had read the comments on the MSN after his performance, you’d know the majority of them weren’t ‘glowing’ reviews and most of them stated they would not be buying his album now.

Many of my co-workers who were Adam fans & voted for him have been turned off’ ¦.not to mention some of my own friends & family.

And, no, they weren’t on the fence or quasi fans. They just don’t want his sexuality thrown in their faces’ ¦it distracts from his amazing vocals.

then there’s no truth of them being a fan(of Adam).

  415. I’m not sure what you are referring to that I posted. This must be my day to be misunderstood. (or I’m being inarticulate’ ¦

    )

sorry I wasn’t clear iluvai…just that Adam was hardly dealing w/ a “guys guy” but “an obnoxous 12? 14? yo.”
Not in the same league. (luv ya)

  416. Sometimes I think if Adam was willing to compromise more he would have been famous much earlier. sigh

But would he be famous for as long as I think he will be? I don’t think so.

Craig Ferguson: ‘Barbara Walters picked Adam Lambert and Glenn Beck as two of the ten most fascinating people. One’s a gay guy who causes a big fuss on TV, and the other is Adam Lambert.’

    ROTFLMAO

I so want Adam to do his show. It would be the next best thing to SNL

  418. sorry I wasn’t clear iluvai’ ¦just that Adam was hardly dealing w/ a ‘guys guy’ but ‘an obnoxous 12? 14? yo.’

It’s a new day tomorrow. I just need my caffeine. Starbucks or Dunkin will do… :)

  420. Adam finished at Number 37 in the World Charts (he was #7) last week. Still not bad. He sold 51K US and 8K the rest of the world. Not Bad. Foreign sale he beat Carrie. (4K foreign sales though she had the best overall WW sales of 86K (82K US)) He was the highest selling AI artist. Carrie and Adam are the only two Idols on the list. BTW last week Adam had 11K in Foreign Sales.

  421. OMG I love this man. I have been checking in on the blog all day but just had the chance to check out the interview and video. I admit on my first viewing of the AMAs from my DVR my heart dropped because I knew that there would be an uproar and as a huge fan of Adam I just wanted him to be quickly and totally accepted by everyone. I think he’s dealt with it well, and I’m over it. I actually don’t mind the performance at all other than it being on network TV- and even with that with a PG 14 rating, warning from the network that it would be sexy and hot, and the totally sexually charged performances before Adam’s, I feel strongly that if a parent let young children watch they are totally at fault. Time to move on.

I hope that Adam continues to follow his own path. From what I have seen (and I have to admit to clearing my temp files on a daily basis because it would just be totally embarrasing if someone were to see the untold number of times I have googled, utubed, MJ’d, downloaded, droooled over his pics, yadayadayada) he is an enormously talented, well-grounded, loving human being that I am just really happy to see in the limelight.

Throughout AI I told my husband that Adam would be as big as Elvis or MJ in time. I totally believe he has the charisma, talent and vision to make it to that level. In their heyday both were cutting edge and shocking/fascinating/disgusting (to some) and OTT. It may take some time for the rest of the world to catch up to us uber-fans but they will.

A quick shout out to all the regulars on MJs – suebrody don’t you dare quit posting. I am a lurker most of the time but you all entertain and educate me every day and I am eternally grateful for the distractions from RL. I think the french call it a divertisement (I’m sure that is mis-spelled, sigh), my addiction to Adam and this site brings me joy and hurts nobody so it’s all good.

MJ, thank you for this site, I don’t know if peeps really understand how important it is to support you by using your links for our music and other purchases that are triggered by our fandom and your forum. I hope you have a prosperous new year and a most wonderful holiday season!

  422. Were I live, it’s already tomorrow!..Dunkin for me iluvai..you in?.. my

    treat!

Oh you are sweet! Yes dunkin, i’m kind of out of my starbucks mode. Egg and cheese on a bagel, black coffee with a hot chocolate mixed in the coffee.

If you’re in Maine you must be freezing! :)

I love your post, but believe it or not, I had your reaction when Adam sang Ring of Fire….My heart dropped… and people loved it…. and I was like… that’s good….. :) Ring of Fire was my heart dropping moment. So funny!

Now I’m like “whatever”…. I just wanted people to like him and get him. I think some people do. So that’s good.

  424. and I have to admit to clearing my temp files on a daily basis because it would just be totally embarrasing if someone were to see

you made me laugh rockdamama….i just cleared up my picture files knowing my daughter will be home soon for Christmas break and did not want her to find out my Adam picture file was bigger than hers AND her brothers! What has this man done to us!!

  425. oh, how I miss Dunkin Donuts and Second Cup :(
raspberry chocolate was my favorite flavor :)

  426. it would just be totally embarrasing if someone were to see the untold number of times I have googled, utubed, MJ’d, downloaded, droooled over his pics, yadayadayada) he is an enormously talented, well-grounded, loving human being that I am just really happy to see in the limelight.

I do this on my husband’s work computer and he gets pretty annoyed.

  427. My daughter has already gotten used to it – she just sighs when she sees Adam on my monitor :)
but she really likes his CD (she hates Miley Cyrus and the likes, loves the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan) and she is 13 – there is hope :)

  428. MAKE NO MISTAKE!

    lol…. love you
Adam is Adam, he always choice his own way to go, and this I love him more.

One of my country’s popular radio played TfM. DJ introducd “it’s the theme song of 2012, and Adam Lambert sang it amazing!” (did’nt mentioned he is from AI, only Adam). He also talked about AMA’s (too quickly i can’t get it but sound funny).

Supports from AI fans are very important, but “it’s not american idol anymore”, fans should move on with their idols. I don’t think “the bad boy of AMA’s” really a bad thing, people here think it’s cool or brave. And we know that was a performance, or adam showed us his different color(not his true color, of cause),that’s all. What important is he can touch you heart with his amazing vocal.

  429. If T4M gets nominated for an Oscar, Adam will get to sing it on the Oscars. If it is not nominated, I would be surprised if he is invited to perform.

My wish is that someday Adam will sing TFM live..love the song

  430. Ciao… y’all….

I’m soooo glad tomorrow is Friday and I hope we have new Adam news soon.

  431. My daughter has already gotten used to it ‘“ she just sighs when she sees Adam on my monitor :)

    )

I really need to sleep. But just want to say that my kids (for almost a year now), know that I’m on the computer because of Adam…. Big sigh….

My 14 and 9 year old love Adam and also love lots of rock. They’re not big fans of Miley Cyrus, but I am. lol….

Some kids get the classics! :)

  432. Mainegal – nobody is more surprised about my addiction to Adam than I. So be it. I like to think I am just ahead of the curve :). I had a 12 hr day of analyzing spreadsheets and was totally emotionally and physically exhausted when I got home until I saw Adam’s videos. He just brightens my life and I love him for that.

  433. This is a beautiful post…. I totally agree with you! Thank you! :)

    lol’ ¦. love you

  434. The ladies of The View and their thinking like an adult is a refreshing change from some internet blogs (not his one) where immature children in adult bodies put forth inane opinions as though they were dogma. The View asked the hard questions, got honest answers. I hope now, whe can ask about his band, any new upcoming videos, VEVO, etc. Adam the artist, the music, the album, the events.

  435. Adam is right. It isn’t AI anymore. Clearly AI fans are not buying post Idol debuts like they did in the past. I mean Kris and Adam sold 2m songs right after Idol but not even 300k between them their debut weeks. Neither will make it just catering to the AI audience.

  436. Not that anyone cares (well Q3 might) but I have located the copyright information on ‘Time for Miracles.’ It was copyrighted on March 21, 2007.

  437. Not that anyone cares (well Q3 might) but I have located the copyright information on ‘Time for Miracles.’ It was copyrighted on March 21, 2007.

Someone is awfully invested in proving a point :)

We’ll know when we know- until then it is all speculation. The Academy empowers itself to do whatever it wants.

  438. And, no, they weren’t on the fence or quasi fans. They just don’t want his sexuality thrown in their faces’ ¦it distracts from his amazing vocals.

    Yep.

  439. Someone is awfully invested in proving a point

Yup, why should we care that someone took a few minutes to get some actual facts. It’s so much easier to just go and on endlessly speculating based on false information.

I have no interest in the issue at all but I always appreciate it when some gets the accurate information.

WOW, this Gridlock NYE at Paramount Studio sounds like a great gig for Adam. Getting to be the Feature Headliner is huge for him. I sure hope some of his concert makes it to the internet.

There is a press release quote on IDF which says Adam has a 40min set ! Sounds like it is well worth the cost !

  441. It just seems like the majority is having sex because that is what media is protraying young people right now.

I don’t think it takes the media, lol.

After all, we already all have the working parts available for doing this right on our own persons … and the parts tend to signal that they’d like to be working at rather an early age! Kids were having sex when I was that age, and on tv the married couples were still sleeping in separate beds!

What I find problematic about some of the media is that the sex-simulation dancing may give unwary young girls the idea that a high level of sexual *display* is normal and okay for them. And I don’t particularly think that’s a good message to send, because an unaware and innocent young girl simulating sex while dancing is most likely an even larger temptation to a lot of guys, including older guys, than a woman doing it, I expect. Normalizing the display for 10-year-olds is the potentially dangerous part, to me.

But as a parent, one can screen that out if one chooses. The AMAs, pretty much from beginning to end, for one thing.

  442. It offends & alienates the majority of people out there & he needs every single fan he can get since he’s not an established performer yet.
Elton John didn’t flaunt his sexuality & most people will not casually accept what, in their minds, they perceive as deviant behavior.

Honestly, if this is really the majority view — and I think you may be right that it is — I think it’s just as well that we all, including Adam, find that out right now. And if he has to be the canary in the coal mine that shows us this, then so be it.

He clearly thinks that attitudes have moved farther, and I guess so do a lot of entertainment executives. But they all live in one of those we-all-mirror-each-other environments, just like we all do, so they could easily be wrong …..

I don’t want to see Adam be hurt by this. But at the same time, he’s alive and performing at the moment in time that he is. And since I don’t think he’d be happy performing as anybody but who he really is, one way or another he was bound to find out whether the gay part was acceptable in a mainstream entertainer with a substantial following or only in a niche market.

I know that, theoretically, he could have come into the mainstream keeping his sexuality under wraps. But he’s a sexual performer by nature, I think, and that would have been unsatisfactory to *him,* I expect. And when a performer is unhappy or unfulfilled by what they’re doing, the audience can usually tell, too, sooner or later, at any rate. …

If it turns out that he *has* to keep things under wraps to have a mainstream audience, then I expect that, in some ways, at least, Adam himself would be happier going back to perform as a more niche artist, and I think he’d give much better performances that way, too. For every ounce of energy you’re spending on a stage denying your natural bent, you’re stealing an ounce away from your performance.

I’m sorry if we really can’t accept this now. A lot of countries are more advanced in this way, though, (more so when it comes to androgynous performers than when it comes to homosexuality in real life, in some cases!). So I would think he has a shot at some modest success worldwide, which might compensate a bit for realizing that most of your fellow Americans aren’t interested in accepting you as you are.

  443. Here is the press release regarding Adam’s NYE event. Let’s move on from the AMA’s. Its obvious Adam and most of the media have. lol Adam is going to be Adam. He’s very sexual like Beyonce and other performers out right now. Although he will tone it down he’s not going to not be himself, so if he loses fans based on being who he is then he didn’t need them in the first place. I’d rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I am not.

Again, here’s the press release. He’s going to perform a 40 minute set!!!

  444. The headlining Lambert will perform an incredible 40 minute set with
songs from his debut album, For Your Entertainment.

Wow. Oh, to live in LA … and have a thousand bucks or so to throw around on New Years Eve entertainment!

  445. The NYE concert is going to be a riot. Pam Anderson is hosting and Adam is headlining?

The pictures coming from the concert are going to be so much fun. Wish I could go, but I’ll probably be at home hosting a middle school girls’ sleepover that night. Yay!! LOL

ETA: I hope they have time to rehearse all those uptempo songs for a night like this. It will be a great time to introduce them. Strut, Sure Fire Winners, Pick U Up. What fun!!

  446. If I were in LA I would be there in a second!! Too bad I live on the east coast:(
And to keep on topic…..I LOVED Adam on the view:)

ITA. I think that Adam’s only goal in this whole process is to be himself, create performance art, and have a long term career in the entertainment business. So long as he can meet those objectives, he’ll be happy.

If that means his market is more niche, so be it. If he never reaches the top levels of the pop market like Britney, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Kelly Clarkson, so be it.

His fans have projected upon him their desire/expectation that he succeed at the top levels of pop superstardom, but I’ve never heard him express those goals.

You have to remember that before Idol he was totally “underemployed” with way too much free time on his hands. Given his work ethic and passion for performing, it must have been very boring and unfulfilling for him. In interviews he repeatedly says that he likes to be busy. I bet he does!! Before 2009 he wasn’t busy at all.

Now he has a platform and an audience. He’s always going to have people who appreciate him. I so hope that many many people will love and appreciate him, but if his market in the US is smaller, he’ll be just fine and remain exceedingly happy with his situation. He also has many opportunities overseas.

My only hope for him is that he’ll sell well enough to be able to produce multiple albums. His music is just fantastic, and I love what he brings to the scene. Whatever Adam ends up doing, I want him to remain true to himself and his vision.

ETA: Oh ya, I loved Adam on the View too, and I thought the set was fabulous. Neon lights for the win!!

  448. Pardon my ignorance regarding these events (and grammar)… just want to ask, had he been on the Rockin NYE with Seacrest, would he be given that much time to perform (40 minutes)? Thank you very much =)

  449. thanks unique28v…..am I understanding correctly that the event will not be televised? At all? If so, what a loss.
I notice the site has videos posted from last year. I wonder how long before this years performances find their way to the rest of us.

  450. Pardon my ignorance regarding these events (and grammar)’ ¦ just want to ask, had he been on the Rockin NYE with Seacrest, would he be given that much time to perform (40 minutes)? Thank you very much =)

No. He would have sung 1 song.

  451. Pardon my ignorance regarding these events (and grammar)’ ¦ just want to ask, had he been on the Rockin NYE with Seacrest, would he be given that much time to perform (40 minutes)? Thank you very much =)

I think he’d have a couple of songs, at most, based on my somewhat hazy memories of NYREs past ….

Certainly nowhere close to 40 minutes, although I wonder whether the performers on that show perform for a live audience for longer, somewhere near by.

And I think that at least some of Katy Perry’s Gridlock set from last year found its way onto the NBC New Year’s Eve show???

  452. Adam gave it a go…..tested the waters….for some maybe ill-advised…however, now that he knows what the public are thinking…he can hopefully chart a course that embraces his fans without alienating the masses….society at large is still not comfortable with displays of homosexual sex….right or wrong…that’s the way it is….were several generations away from mainstream approval…..if ever…Adam will have the most affect by remaining relevant…and not polarizing….force feeding anyone, anything…rarely works….being a pioneer takes guts and patience…IMHO….Adam needs to stick to the music…most of us are accepting of his sexuality….that’s his biz…were in it for his music….double standards are a fact of life….A sit down with Elton John would go a long way…..for the record…I’m a hetro male….and a huge Adam fan….and look forward to being entertained by the most remarkable performer to come along in many years…

  453. “No. He would have sung 1 song.”

Ok thank you very much unique28v. I assume RNYE gives him more publicity but seeing the whooping 40-minute slot, I guess I’d prefer that. I’m looking forward to his live performances of fever, sure fire winners, strut, pick u up and if i had you. I’m positive videos will come up on yt soon after.

So is there anything on Adam’s schedule for today?

    ___________

According to adamlamberttv.blogspot.com, he’s hosting this Z100 New York Jingle Ball. I’m not sure if it’s reliable though since I’m not that much keen on his schedule…

  455. Lade Gaga gave provocative performances that were not offensive and I do not think it was homophobia that stopped adam now, the ama show was just bad.
i really love him and hope he chooses better singles from now on and ‘fearlessly them gives a show’ that would be imaginative and good but without being offensive.

  456. Lucy and KLI, I agree with you both. As a fan, while I wish Adam successful as a mega star and be accepted by the mainsteam, I will continue supporting him if he has to go nitch to stay true and be happy himself at what he is doing. I think the public is more accepting than the impression we got from this AMA thing. It’s ABC series cancelation blew it out of proportion.

My only hope for him is that he’ll sell well enough to be able to produce multiple albums. His music is just fantastic, and I love what he brings to the scene. Whatever Adam ends up doing, I want him to remain true to himself and his vision.

This is my only hope too.

  457. Hey given that fans (IMO OTT fans) snuck into the TfM video taping hiding behind potted palms no less, it is difficult for me to believe we won’t have some type of “coverage” for the New Years Eve event. Vevo seems likely given his recent perfomance at their launch may live stream it or some enterprising folks may indeed provide us with some you tube. Since this is a fundraiser at least in part for the red cross I for one would give an online donation in order to see Adam and his glam band perform. Hope someone at vevo or gridlock is listening!

  458. What do the following have in common:

The Pussycat Dolls, Taylor Swift, Jonas Brothers, NeYo, FallOut Boy, Solange, Jessy McCartney, Natasha Bedingfield, Wil-I-Am and Robin Thicke have in common?

They spent last New Years eve on ABC with Ryan Seacrest.

Should we list the NBC gig and the Fox gig, too? Nobody remembers these. It’s like trying to recall who was on the AMAs. Heck nobody even remembers who won the damn awards.

  459. Since this is a fundraiser at least in part for the red cross I for one would give an online donation in order to see Adam and his glam band perform. Hope someone at vevo or gridlock is listening!

    DITTO!!! And an excellent idea!

  460. ljsmack..
Since this is a fundraiser at least in part for the red cross I for one would give an online donation in order to see Adam and his glam band perform. Hope someone at vevo or gridlock is listening!

How about a pay per view type of deal? would certainly make his fans happy…would reach a broader audience…and raise more $$ for charity

  461. Lade Gaga gave provocative performances that were not offensive and I do not think it was homophobia that stopped adam now, the ama show was just bad.
i really love him and hope he chooses better singles from now on and ‘fearlessly them gives a show’ that would be imaginative and good but without being offensive.

That’s just it, though. It didn’t offend everyone. It didn’t offend me, for example.

That’s the difficulty of mass broadcasting. You do want the airwaves to have something for everybody. But then you also don’t want the airwaves to be forced to carry *only* stuff that won’t offend *anyone.*

And I guess as a performer we were introduced to on a tv show that’s extremely middle of the road and intended to be inoffensive to all it’s perfectly understandable that people figure that, off the show, those same performers will *continue* to be inoffensive to all.

(Although, honestly, the audition rounds of AI, in which, to my eyes, they make cash off of broadcasting deluded and sometimes ill or slow people for others to laugh at *do* offend me, as do some of the things that have gone on during the actual contest, like the Cowell/Seacrest uneasy homophobic joking crap)

Anyway, I can see why Adam’s tv origins make it reasonable that he might go on being a very very mainstream performer. But the problem is that he’s just not. The performances he’s actually drawn to, when he’s being his natural self, apparently *will* offend some. He’s a very very sexual performer, he really enjoys playing with sexual imagery of all kinds, especially kinda edgy sexual imagery, and he’s not just sexy but sexy and gay and he wants to show that. And that *is* too bad for people who love his voice but have different tastes than he …. I guess the good news, though, is that we can probably now tell in advance when there’s likely to be an Adam performance that will be g-rated and mainstream, and when not. Plus, now that everybody can easily buy singles, if anything on his albums offends, everybody can just pick out the songs that they like!

  462. And I think that at least some of Katy Perry’s Gridlock set from last year found its way onto the NBC New Year’s Eve show???

Yup! They both have the same PR firm.

  463. Adam is lucky to have very understanding parents.

Leila Lambert: Success is not the key. It’s being happy about what you are doing.
Eber Lambert: Success will be good too.
    (Both laughed)

You sort of have to ask yourself what Adam wants out of the whole experience- is being a watered down version of himself and denying his artistic vision really worth mainstream acceptance? Is he really willing to pander to the masses and become the lowest common denominator of himself to appease the great middle class? Has he any interest at all in playing the part of an American Idol contestant for the rest of his career so as not to alienate a few fans imaginary vision of how they want him to be?

I don’t believe that is the case at all. He has made comment after comment that he is not for everyone. I don’t think for one minute that pandering to the masses would fulfill his needs of self expression. I truly think he would far rather do his own thing for a smaller crowd who accept and enjoy the entire spectrum of the Adam Experience. He has many styles and he wants and needs to express them all, not audit himself to appease middle class Ameriker. Just a brief journey through his pictorial history will tell you beyond a doubt that he will go to extremes, push your buttons, and be anything but mainstream. He is a visual artist.

If he expects to be happy performing for the long term the first person whose needs he should consider is himself. If it is not a positive experience for him then he will not be fulfilled or happy and would sour on the whole experience. He doesn’t have to be the #1 popstar to be a successful artist and musician. I do not want a watered down, neutered, generic Adam and I am sure he doesn’t want to be one. If that is what someone is looking for they should probably save themselves the trouble and look somewhere else- he is not that guy no matter how badly you want it to be so.

  465. Hello everyone!

I’d like to wish all my fellow jewish peeps a happy Hannuka (tonight’s first candle)!!!

And to everyone else- a happy weekend!!!

    Wow-the NYE gig sounds amazing!
Think I should fly all the way to LA for it??? If it were in Europe, friends, I would seriously consider it, but the States are just a little too far away (I did make sure to be in the US, however, for the AI summer tour- so I have seen the glittery one in live action before- and hopefully will get to see him again! And that’s where I agree with Lucy & co.- I just want him to be successful enough to tour around the world, so I get the chance to see him perform again! He doesn’t have to be a Mega superstar for that (or does he???)…

  466. His fans have projected upon him their desire/expectation that he succeed at the top levels of pop superstardom, but I’ve never heard him express those goals.

This is what Adam said in the Fab magazine’s interview:
” You come off Idol and there’s this expectation that you’re going be this mass appeal, mass marketed, family friendly, granola, easy listening, easily digestible thing and that’s definitely not me as an artist.”

My only hope for him is that he’ll sell well enough to be able to produce multiple albums. His music is just fantastic, and I love what he brings to the scene. Whatever Adam ends up doing, I want him to remain true to himself and his vision.

Agree with you, this is what I want too.

  467. Lucy,

you’re probably gone from this thread for ever, but in case your not: I just skimmed back over the posts and I loved every one of yours. Thanks for always bringing such reasonable and complex opinions to this blog. I always look forward to reading what you have to say, and generally couldn’t agree with you more. Plus the jumping vid was a visceral thrill!

Thanks, midwifespal! Glad to hear that I’m not always a totally didactic overwriting mess, lol!

The base jumping videos are killer, aren’t they? … And Adam’s kind of jumping off a cliff of his own just now, too.

  469. I live in Australia, and the View just aired here yesterday. I went to visit my mother last night (she is 88 years old and quite liberal) – and she said she had taped The View and said to me to watch this most beautiful man – Adam Lambert. She said she thought he looked like Elvis and she played the interview and the song for me. I told her I had just gotten his new CD in my car (takes a while from Amazon in the USA to down under!!!) and that I was a fan of his (I am a 50 year old fan – and professionally employed woman) after watching AI for the first time this year on cable TV. She asked what all the fuss was about – I explained about the AMA’s (I had taped and watched it on cable here in Oz) and what he did – here comment was “Only in America”. She just wanted to be 60 years younger so she could see if she could convert this beautiful man! So a new 88 year old fan in the land down under!!
