  2. DTRH, Fever, MA, Soaked, FYE, Sleepwalker and SFW are still missing.

  3. hi guys, happy new year from Poland, it’s been snowing all night and it’s beautiful here :)

DTRH, Fever, MA, Soaked, FYE, Sleepwalker and SFW are still missing.

SFW is the one I really want to see and hear….mostly hear. So post it please!!!!!!!! Somebody!!!!!!!

  5. apparently he did some dancing during SFW too. I can’t wait to see it!!

  6. thanks MJ…You’re the best!!! Do you ever take a day off?

Judging from the videos…Adam needs a bigger stage! He is like a ball of energy – frantic – but in a good way! The crowd seemed to be into it too. Do they have reviews of something like this?

OMG at peeps screeming his name to take his pic on the red carpet. I don’t know how the stars can just stand there preening with all the bulbs going off. Wonder if anyone has ever gone blind from it? j/k

    11 songs… woo… hooo

and Showtime’s is using FYE in their Golden Glove nominee’s commercials now???

  8. Best way to start 2010 – seeing Adam do his thing! Part of the fun is guessing which look he will bring and how outrageous he might or might not be. Even if I don’t always like his choices – he makes me happy.

I am hoping that this year I can see him live – saw him on tour and it was fabulous but can’t wait to see what he does with freedom to do whatever.

Happy New Year to mj and everyone here!

  9. First actual concert – not too shabby my friend. Can you imagine how fantastic he’s going to be once they start performing the other songs more. I can only imagine how good this was in person.

  10. I still can’t get Strut to work for me. But Soaked was pure perfection. Adam’s vocals on that song just kill me.

  11. fye is such a good song…i really is one of those songs that grows on you the more you hear it….well, it seems to be taking on a life of its own outside of radio

  12. OMG- SOAKED!!!

His voice is such a treasure, seriously.

And I have to say I LOLed on it a bit- he’s such a drama queen, ain’t he?

Loled in a good way, ofcourse! He just completely delights me!

  13. Soaked is absolutely amazing. His voice is like no other. It is truly a gift.

  14. Yeah I finally got Strut to work and it was worth the wait. It was a really good vocal and the way he performed the song was amazing and his funny (in a good way) when he does this song live.

  15. Thanks for all the videos!!!! Soaked is sooooo beautiful!!! Its like his voice reaches in and touches your soul………

  16. Thanks you MJ for these vids!! I stayed up till 4:00am for Adam’s Gridlock Concert and I knew you’d be putting up videos as the good ones came in today for….OUR ENTERTAINMENT!! You never disappoint!! Your the best!!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!

  17. So RCA / Adam must make money from Fox/Showtime for using his FYE song right?

Is it me or did he mess up the words near the beginning of FYE (not that I care mind you :-))?

And is anyone else wondering what is in his flask?

fye is such a good song’ ¦i really is one of those songs that grows on you the more you hear it’ ¦.well, it seems to be taking on a life of its own outside of radio
    ——————————————————————————–
This is soooo true. I won’t be surprised if we see FYE back on the charts by late spring/early summer. Program directors better not file it away just yet. It’s got legs like Adams…..long and ready to run.

  19. Suz (one of the videographers) commented on the sound. She said it was very distorted for them in place as well. Outdoor concert and being close to the stage and the speakers. Same for the earlier peformers.

  20. MJ, I have been following you for years starting back with AI Season 4 and all of your updates about Bo Bice. I’m a huge Adam fan also and I can’t thank you enough for all that you provide to your viewers.

Adam put out a GREAT CD, not one bad song on it and I am really looking forward to seeing him Live in concert. Until then, I will continue to play his CD over and over.

I attended the AI tour and was even more blown away by his talent than I was on the AI show. This young man is on his way to becoming our next SuperStar and I wish him nothing short of the very best!

  21. There was a review of FYE-the album I read recently, and although the reviewer was so-so on the album, he loved Soaked and wrote that Adam should/would be nominated for Grammy in 2010 for Best Male Pop Performance. I like Soaked on the CD, but seeing and hearing this tremendous vocal performance on thes video, where the audio is not that great, makes me think that reviewer is absolutely right!

  22. OMG…Love the Adam and Tommy play at the beginning of Fever. Adam didn’t look like he was expecting it. His face is so funny.

I’m sorry but seriously, I don’t think we will ever see another contestant like Adam on AI. He is an original, that’s a fact.

    ETA….Sleepwalker is up!

  23. intimations/astolat/shalott is going to upload high quality videos from the front row anytime today. I’m crossing my fingers =) the quality of her videos is superb!

happy new year… it’s midnight of jan 2 here, i’ve got work at 7am but i just can’t get away from my laptop… sigh….

  24. I am literally sweating and panting after watching that WLL. That is the hottest thing I have ever seen.

  25. Based on a fan review of the concert, here is the song list. She missed FYE in her review at first, so I don’t know the order of FYE.

(ETA MJ has the list up front)

The band performed 10 songs from the album (left Aftermath, A Loaded Smile, Master Plan, Pick U Up, Broken Open, and TFM ) plus WWL. They shortened some songs to 3+ mins so that they could put 10 in 40 mins. They must have rehearsed very hard to come up with such an intense list. Love them.

Fever and Strut was so fun, and Soaked was purely brilliant!!

ETA, Yay for Showtime using FYE in a promo for the GG. FYE surely has legs. It will be back. :D

  26. He sounds so good on these vids. I can’t imagine how awesome he will sound with better audio/video.

ETA…FYE is the song that doesn’t die lol

  27. Adam just truly amazes me. Although I think that all of the songs on FYE are good songs, there were a few that I didn’t particularly care for in the beginning (Soaked, Music Again, Aftermath). When Adam performed Music Again live on the Morning Show, I loved it! I couldn’t believe that a song could actually sound better live than recorded. After hearing Adam’s live performance of soaked, I’m blown away again! It was all the orchestra/noise in the recording that made me not care much for the song, but the live performance sounds soooo much better. Adam has such an incredible voice. I could just listen to him and watch him all day long!

Happy New Year Everyone and thank you to those who shared their amazing Gridlock experience with us!!

  28. My God, this man is amazing! What an incredible performer. I don’t care what anybody says, I am so glad he got to do this stunnig set in Gridlock than one song on NYRE. The youTubes are out there and they will be seen by thousands of people. I read on another thread that Adam at Gridlock is the third most Googled item today. I knew he was going to be good but this is even beyond my expectations even judging by not so good videos. Wow!

  29. Happy New Year! I just want to say Adam really sounded amazing last night. I was at the AMA and his vocal on FYE that night scared me! But boy did he make it all up for me last night. My hubby and I enjoyed his set so much. It was really entertaining and fun. I danced so much! His songs are great live. WLL was truly epic!!!!! We were really blown away!!!!! Way to go, Adam!

  30. I looove the way he gives the band the spotlight on WLL! They’re becoming such a rock band!

I will have to disagree with some of you, though, about FYE- I know the audio is bad, but it seems that once again he’s off on a couple of notes…
Now, because this doesn’t usually happen to bb- here’s my advise (lol- as if cares- but what the hell):
Don’t sing FYE live. It doesn’t suit his voice and it somehow reveals a weak spot in his sparkley armor.

Everything else, though, id beyond amazing! Even with the bad audio… I’m extremely jealous of whoever got to go…

    PLEASE UPLOAD SFW!!!!!

  31. Fantastic! ABC really missed out. Instead, they chose the lipsyncing, naked-looking J-Lo, who is old news anyway.

  32. intimations has officially earned a spot in the list of people I’d like to thank on/in my death bed… =) first vid up!

  33. Instead, they chose the lipsyncing, naked-looking J-Lo,

yeah,WTF was up with that??!!!!! it felt kinda weird though, because fir some of adam’s other major performances(sytycd,AMA) Jennifer was there too.this time Adam wasnt.I’m still upset about him being cancelled but at least we get this

  34. Thanks… mj and everybody who have posted, linked, given info, pictures, and shared their experiences and reactions to Adam NYE Gridlock. All are greatly appreciated. :)

What a way to start New Year!!!

  35. intimations has officially earned a spot in the list of people I’d like to thank before in my death bed’ ¦ =) first vid up!

    Link please!?! :)

  36. OK – I’ve watched most of the vids now. OMFG with those vocals! Soaked was absolutely incredible (loved the “tongue in cheek flask moment” too) Sleepwalker vocals at the end! So amazing! Like inhumanely good :-) Loving all the other vids too!

I boycotted all the NYE shows last night (well, definitely ABC, and only caught parts of Fox and NBC right before and after the ball dropped). My only regret is that I couldn’t be in LA live to watch the performance (also hoping for better quality audio – the visuals are AMAZING but the audio is bad so close to the stage! We need someone who recorded it further from the stage, I think)

  37. Happy New Year all! I am at my hotel trying to get packed up to head to LAX and the internet connection here is horrible, so just a quick post.

The show last night was EPIC!! I tried to watch a few of the posted vid, and by and large they do NO justice to the live performance. Adam’s voice was f’ing incredible and the band was HOT too. 2 minor complaints – the extensive use of backing tracks (which was unavoidable with the type of songs and lack of additional musicians in the live show), took away from the main vocals (in my opinion), and there were some misques with starting some songs, etc. Also, the sound mix was horrible. We were at the front row behind barricade to right of stage and I could not hear the guitar solos at all. So disappointing and was hoping the videos would be better, but not so much. Otherwise – this experience for me was beyond my wildest expectations!!

Favorite song – probably Fever, but Sleepwalker was so good live. Dunno, hard to pick a favorite, and there were definitely no duds. Watching the people in the VIP area dancing, it seemed like Fever was a crowd favorite, but there were a lot of people singing along to WWFM which is encouraging if they know if from radio.

Adam seemed to be having a good time and he did a wonderful job with the between-song banter with the audience and I wish he had done more of it.

We met a really sweet couple from Palm Springs who came up to the barricade right at the beginning and immediately bonded with us. THey just happended to be in town for a big “date night” and saw the Gridlock ad online and got tickets last minute. They were big AI fans and decided to stick it out in the front row with us to see Adam. Let me tell you – they were competely blown away. They loved Adam on the show but had no idea what had transpired in his career since and don’t have his album, but I’m sure they will go get it now!

I am so tired… 3 hours sleep since Weds night…. can’t wait to get back to DC tonight and re-live it on video!! See you back on the east side

  38. Can someone please tell me the number of people that attended Adam’s concert? I read that it was sold-out, but I never saw the number of tickets sold. Thanks!

  39. Oh, wait! Just saw the set list! He did freaking DTRH!???!! LOVE that song! Need to find vid now!

  40. And lol to Showtime using FYE! Hell yeah! That song is great for these promos! I just love that everyone is using it for tv spots :-)

  41. Mary102-
yep- he did DTRH and even thought the live stream video&audio that I heard real-time were beyond crappy- from what I could tell it sounded awesome!
    Real fun song!

  42. I am hoping for vids from people further away from the stage. The sound mix close to the stage seems really terrible.

  43. still cannot play Strut or Soaked. All the other vids work fine. Is it my computer settings, the vid, or just ME ???? I see from earlier posts some of you had problems as well.—solutions?? please!!!

  44. we need to sync intimations video’s with audio from someone who was a little further back lol

  45. we need to sync intimations video’s with audio from someone who was a little further back lol

Yup. I don’t know if anyone was recording from further back though.

  46. Happy New Year everyone! I have been a daily lurker here at MJ’s since May, when I got completely addicted to all things Adam. I have spent way too much time and reading every bit of news and commentary about Adam and watching every performance, and I have thoroughly enjoyed all of your witty, informative, and fun posts. Thank you all, and thank you MJ for everything.

My husband and I went to Adam’s Gridlock concert last night. I just had to come out of lurkdom to share this awesome experience with all of my fellow Adam fans.

Adam (and the band) sounded absolutely phenomenal on everything, he looked fantastic (sparkly “like fireworks!”), and the audience loved him. He was obviously having a great time, and so were we. I was thrilled and blown away, as was everyone around us. It was better than I had allowed myself to hope for. Love him. My husband is now a new convert too!

And Adam’s fans are the best. We were surrounded by fans from all over the country who had come out to LA just for this concert’” from New York, Connecticut, and San Francisco; we’re from Oregon. The gal from New York had gotten Adam’s autograph on her arm at his Early Show performance, and she turned it into a tattoo!’”right next to the Eye of Horus tattoo on her wrist. That’s devotion.

Everything sounded fantastic vocally, but he really kicked up his vocals (and the drama) ‘“ in a great way!’” on Soaked and Sleepwalker. (Distorted audio on the Youtube videos is because it was REALLY LOUD, but everything sounded great where we were standing.) Down the Rabbit Hole was a totally fun surprise. WLL for the encore’”oh my God, he totally killed it. I think people must have heard him 20 miles away.

And the perfect cap on the evening was a very cute male flight attendant from Australia who tried to hit on my husband repeatedly. It was hilarious ‘“ we both got a big kick out of it.

Fantastic night all around. It’s a happy time in Adam land! Happy 2010!

  47. Oh my, thanks so much for all the luscious videos! DTRH is extraordinary live. Love it, love him. Great show!!

  48. That Maximo video is hilarious!!!

    Adam is so beautiful!!!

The videos, were not really that great, it was too distorted for total enjoyment. I am going to definitely go to a concert so I can hear for myself first hand how Adam sounds live. This videos made him sound screechy and pitchy in spots, and I didn’t appreciate that too much.

  49. Thanks for the recaps shuffly and cwm! So glad you had a good time! Even from the videos it looks like he kicked some major ass last night! :-)

  50. lucky people who went!!! hope u had fun!!!! hmm none of the vids work for me.who posted them? maybe I can search that username on YouTube…;)

madefourbabies, Thank you Thank you Thank you !!! SFW was great. DTRH was so so much fun. He finished his set with a ‘Who Are You?’. lol so Adam :D

B&W video of gridloack set to Music Again.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhhtELJH_HY

The video is great. Is the MA live in the video. Audio is too good.

There were professional camera men in the concert. Hope they will release some high quality footage later.

  52. Thats great FYE is being used for a Golden Globe promo!

This looks like it was a rocking concert! Wish I could have been there!

  53. Thanks to those who attended and are sharing their experience! It sounds like it was amazing (lol – big surprise!)

And I also had to chime in about Adam’s hot look for the night! Loving the jacket (and rhinestones, bitches!)

  54. And I also had to chime in about Adam’s hot look for the night! Loving the jacket (and rhinestones, bitches!)

    I knooooooow,right?

  55. music again sounded amazing!! i am having such a great new years day just listening and watching adam!! thank you everyone!!

  56. Loved DTRH! Ok, can we officially start some kind of campaign to get that song on the soundtrack for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland ;-) That would be freaky-deaky cool!

  57. Ok I for $100 got let in and got in front ror center. My husband videod the whole think. He was beyond fantastic. Just enough teasing. He makes it seem like he is looking and singing to you. He aS at times since i was right there. His voice was on Nd he was gorgeous and freekin sexy as he’ll. I will drop videos in utube shen I get home. They r awesome. I don’t know how to put on this page. You will luv them

  58. Hmmm I wonder when they recorded that Nick Cannon show. I think this is the first I’ve heard of it.

He did sound really good last night. I love that fact that he always looks like he is having FUN when he performs!!! He gets so into his songs.

  59. Adam will be on MTV at 2:00 eastern ‘” Nick Cannon’s show

Nick Cannon has a show on MTV??? Wow… you learn new things every day! lol

  60. The videos uploaded by alreference is getting better (apparently they have to stew for a while). He/she uploaded WLL and MA.

  61. The big professional cameras were for the PPV lvecast that fell through. I was told the link to livestream failed, but I wonder if the show was recorded with good sound. The problem with the pay system was the host company started maintenance at 1:00am est.

  62. Thank you sooooo much for posting these vids and making my day. He is so fearless! I just loved Fever, Soaked…ahhhhhh!!!! I am going to be in the front row during the tour. There’s no stopping me! When are we going to get those dates?

  63. Trillian
    01/01/2010 at 2:14 pm

No recap of last night’s epic Gridlock event other than I had a blast, Adam was otherworldly vocally and in appearance and I can’t imagine a better start to 2010! Here are my pics, there are 10 total.

    http://twitpic.com/photos/thefilmqueen

Trillian thanks for the pics and glad last night was epic for you. You got your monies worth it seems. So it sounded better live then the the audio from the videos that were posted. Though I appreciate that the people uploaded them so I could experience some of the wonder that is Adam and his band live.

  64. Adam was amazing last night! I saw him live and he was incredible. Vocally, he nailed it, and he was such a great showman. I had so much fun. The videos are great, but for those who weren’t there, multiply the awesomeness of the videos times a million. The videos don’t capture how it felt to see the show live. I can’t wait for the tour!

  65. Videos usually don’t do the live performance justice. Soooo…looks interesting. Needs more experience on the big stage as a solo act. He will only get better. It is funny but even though many of these idols have years of experience, it is usually in small venues(I know Adam has theatre experience…) Cook had lots of experience, but had to learn to translate his star power onto a bigger platform last year, and got alot better as the touring went on. Fans, we are usually so excited to see our idols perform that it is hard to be objective about their performances. So from an non-invested Adam fan. He was ok. most of the time, and had some great moments too.

  66. Just a few tidbits about Adam’s performance after reading other posts: Adam did have sound problems, but it was intermittent, there were a few out of tune notes – but very few. Overall he was vocally stunning, his improvisations were insane.

For Your Entertainment did have that same heliumy quality we heard on tour (at least some of us did), but what was odd, he said something before singing FYE (or after, I don’t remember now) and actually laughed becuase his voice sounded Donald Duck-like. At least that’s how I interpreted his reaction. It was odd.

The mix-up before Fever/Sleepwalker was really funny, especially after he told the “got drunk with GaGa story while recording Fever” and drank from the flask and then had to sing Sleepwalker.

As comfortable as he seemed to be on Idol and on tour, you can now tell he’s really, finally “himself”, both performing and while giving interviews.

  67. So…just so we’re clear…when I went to the Myspace link…are Pam Anderson’s tits hanging out (again)? And is Adam trying to alert her to this fact at one point? And does anyone else find that utterly hilarious and awkward all at once? Hahaha!

  68. Just watched Fever again, and I need a good quality audio on that SOO freaking badly!!! That performance was great, but the audio sucks!

  69. I think the biggest problem Adam had last night was that the stage was too small!! He needs more room to maneuver and dance. As we know from Satisfaction on Idol, he is definately NOT a stand in one place type of singer. His voice sounds incredible and really enjoy the vids from further away.

  70. Well, another thing to keep in mind is how little time the band had to get such a huge set put together, not to mention the fact that the band has only been together for such a short amount of time. Considering all of that, I thought it was amazing, and just showed what an outstanding performer Adam is. With more time to develop the choreography, etc, it will be even more amazing!

  71. In no way is this a complaint…and I don’t know which one I would have changed it out for, but would have loved for him to put Pick U Up in there somewhere! :) Love that song!

  72. Yeah Pick U Up was missing!

You know what I really think Adam needs to sing these songs live? He now needs back up singers….really really good ones.

  73. I don’t think Adam really knows or gets how much his fans like PUU. It’s not a dance song, it’s not an attitude rock song, it’s not a ballad but still it’s one of the most bubbly fun tracks on the album.

  74. I thought it was amazing, and just showed what an outstanding performer Adam is. With more time to develop the choreography, etc, it will be even more amazing!

I agree – this has only gotten more hyped up for his tour!

  75. Honestly I don’t know which song I would have replaced with Pick U Up…I guess since I’ve seen him do Whatya Want From Me so many times, I would switch out that one, but you know he probably couldn’t do that with it being the single and all.

  76. THere were about 5000 people there and it was at Paramount Studios.

I love on DTRH when the mic slides down and Adam’s face is WTF..and then he just rolls with it! Kinda like his ninja roll at the AMAs.

  77. I don’t think Adam really knows or gets how much his fans like PUU. It’s not a dance song, it’s not an attitude rock song, it’s not a ballad but still it’s one of the most bubbly fun tracks on the album.

I’m with you — “Pick U Up” is actually my favorite (I think — it wavers between it and “Broken Pieces,” although now that I’ve seen the songs performed live, I’m also getting more into “Fever” and “SFW.” LOL!), but with that crazy, escalating run, it also has to be among the most difficult to perform live. Since they didn’t really have a lot of time to rehearse, I wasn’t too surprised that that one was set aside, hopefully for a future event! Speaking of future events… Do we know of anything coming up for Adam? It seems his calendar is empty, although I find it hard to believe that would be true. I wonder what’s out there brewing that we don’t yet know about!

  78. THere were about 5000 people there and it was at Paramount Studios.

I love on DTRH when the mic slides down and Adam’s face is WTF..and then he just rolls with it! Kinda like his ninja roll at the AMAs.

ugh if he wasn’t cancelled he would have performed in front of 725,000 people.whatever-I’m beating a dead horse.
I’m gonna go fianlly watch the videos(!!)

  79. I’m also loving PUU, and hope he does it live soon! But the set we got was amazing! So happy with all those choices. I was surprised he did Soaked, because it’s a slower song, but it broke up the set nicely, and was SO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL!!!

Oh, and I just love the laugh at the end of PUU – lol, I just laugh along with it every time :-)

Oh, and thanks for the links, adamme! I’ll check those out!

  80. wow Adam was unf$&king believable last night!!!!! just when I think he can’t get better,he does. I FLOVE the videos.thanks SO much whoever took them <3

  81. You know what I really think Adam needs to sing these songs live? He now needs back up singers’ ¦.really really good ones.

I agree! He needs 2 great back up singers so he can get rid of the backing tracks.

  82. Oh, and to add:

I agree about backup singers – There are a lot of vocal layers to his songs, and so unfortunately you need either a backup track or backup singers.

BTW – watching AI S8 reruns right now – SF auditions, and Adam coming up :-) How surreal to watch again where it all began! (oh, and random Allison shots in the background, lol)

  83. “Videos usually don’t do the live performance justice. Soooo’ ¦looks interesting. Needs more experience on the big stage as a solo act. He will only get better. Just wondering if you were there at the concert. I was there, and so was my husband who is not an invested Adam fan. We both thought Adam was amazing, and he owned that stage. That was my husband’s biggest surprise, how ready he was and how he delivered. The whole show was incredible, and the videos do not do it justice. I was glad that my husband, who came with me out of love, ended up loving the show!

  84. 2010 quote of the day from a YouTube viewer:

Most people have voicesï »’ that go up and down. Adam Lambert’s voice goes up and down and back and forth and inside out and fucking sideways.

    ROF(with all limbs up)LMAO!

    LOL love it

  86. Down the Rabbit hole is full of WIN!!!

I am in love with the way he dances quirkly to it! Reminds of someone’s comment about it a few weeks back- something like: “I’d like to know what he was smoking when he wrote that song!”
Ditto! It’s so phsycadelic! I love it.

NGL- I loved the whole set except for FYE. He should have dropped it and done Pick U Up… but I really have no right to complain after such epicness… Go Baby!!!

  87. http://www.youtube.com/user/sdljroller#p/u/0/CTJIwOHuw3E

Omg, WLL, 3:12-3:50, is totally NUTS. It’s like watching someone freak out on a guitar solo but it’s vocally instead. I don’t care if people think he is a poser, that’s freakin awesome. And FUN!!!!

This WLL is totally WILD. I just laugh when I see it. Who cares about cred? It’s about having fun, giving all you’ve got!

  88. Saga,

And watching him live, he does not seem like a poser. He is the real thing, all the way. I was blown away last night. We were by the railing, which seems to have been better soundwise. It was such a great show; the way he performed each song was incredible.

  89. Adam owns WLL after that performance…lock, stock and barrel.

I don’t know what gives me more pleasure…watching him perform or watching how much HE enjoys performing. Entertaining is Adam’s calling and I don’t know of anybody right now that shows it better than he does on stage. Just wow.

And this was a “seat of our pants” performance in his words. Wow. I get shivers thinking about the solo tour after this performance.

  90. Haha, I am envious Lynne! I saw your answer about Sleepwalker btw. I am still waiting for a good audio video of that one. This sdljroller person is uploading Music Again right now to his utube channel but it’s not completed yet.

  91. Well, I enjoyed WLL also because the whole band seemed to have really fun together, just going nuts you know? It was not just Adam having fun and letting loose. I didn’t see Lisa but I have read she used a Keytar on WLL. LG, Tommy and Monte were definetely giving all they got.

  92. Did you guy see Perez’ vid of Tommy and Adam sharing a little smooch at an afterparty last night? Cute!

  93. My lord that vid of WLL is friggin Insane!!! Adam isn’t human!!! The end of that song is off the chains. He is so much fun to watch and hear! Paula was spot on….adam is the whole package!!!

  94. I’m a little less dissapointed about the abc thing being cancelled after watching these videos,Adam looks like he’s having so much fun and this is unrestricted , uncensored Adam.and it’s great.

  95. This whole thing should have been televised. Judging from the videos (although not the best quality), he was absolutely amazing. I too LOVE PUU & was hoping for it but it doesn’t really matter because the entire show was so fantastic. SOAKED was as beautiful as I’ve ever heard anyone sing.
2010 – the year of Adam.

  96. saga
“This WLL is totally WILD. I just laugh when I see it. Who cares about cred? It’s about having fun, giving all you’ve got!”

Saga I was thinking the same thing, it was so wild and different than Plant’s version. To me, it almost had a punk rock element to it, which I loved. I have to say my favorite performances of his was Sleepwalker, Sure fire winner and WLL. There are few people out there today, that could rock that song, the way Adam did. It was so raw, wild and sexy.

  97. Love love love the WLL! Amazing vocals! The whole show was just so great!

luv – I feel the same way re ABC: their loss to not have this amazing talent on their show. No offense to Daughtry, J-Lo, etc. but they’re no where near this level of charisma and excitement on stage! Give me more Adam anyday :-) So glad we had 11 amazing songs instead of just 1!

  98. That ending of WLL – with Adam’s tour de force to be reckoned with vocals, Monte right there with him, Tommy earnestly head-banging, crowd yelling appreciation – is the kind of moment some performers, live musicians, and concert-goers live for.

For 2010, Adam resolved to be “in the moment.” I hope he enjoyed the hell out of that one.

  99. No offense to Daughtry, J-Lo, etc.

    or j-lo’s naked outfit thing

For 2010, Adam resolved to be ‘in the moment.’ I hope he enjoyed the hell out of that one.

    I just love this..

  100. Wow, after watching 50+ WLL I thought I couldn’t have been impressed anymore, but Adam and the band proved me wrong again. Last night’s WLL was siiiiiiick!!! The vocal, the drum and the guitar were all so great. They were having fun and going wild up there!!

National exposure surely is good but a set of 11 songs and having fun while performing is valuable too. I’m looking forward the Adam Tour 2010!!!

  101. Saga,

I love PUU. That song always makes me feel so happy-especially the incredible bridge! I would have loved to hear that one last night as well.

I also want to see Adam get some back up singers now.

  102. Dude’s amazing. End of story (and thankfully, beginning of epic.)

    Happy New Year/Life, Adam!

  103. Did you guy see Perez’ vid of Tommy and Adam sharing a little smooch at an afterparty last night? Cute!

PH should be equal opportunity and also post the video of Tommy making out with some girl last night as well.

  104. I still can’t get over his vocals in “Soaked.” He is absolutely incredible and I simply cannot wait for him to tour. My favorite songs from Gridlock were “Soaked,” “Sleepwalker,” “Fever,” and “Whole Lotta Love.” Though, I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the songs as well.

And I also would have loved to hear him sing “Pick U Up” ‘” it’s an awesome song. Makes me smile. :D

  105. Yuck. Tommys smock with Adam was much cuter. That chick was aggressive. Good for her! Hahaha… I bet the interviewer felt awkward!!!

  106. Sheesh, let the guys kiss in peace for godssakes. Universal love (and peace!)

  107. How cool to start the year with this videos! I’m personally starting 2010 feeling sick :(, but these videos have lifted my mood even is my health is not in its best moment.

Even though my 2 favorite songs from the record weren’t performed (A Loaded Smile and Pick U Up), it’s great to finally see Fever live! It needs to be a single, it doesn’t matter if Lady Gaga gets the credit for its success, she is the Queen Midas of pop after all.

It was cool to see Sleepwalker too, it was kinda nasal though, maybe it’s just me.

    Can’t wait for the tour.

    Happy 2010!

  108. I finally just watched Soaked, I am just in shock! How can he rock it out on stage then do that thing he did with that song. What a performer, I smiled, laughed and almost cried watching him sing that song, just unbelievable.

  109. I don’t think that he could have had any more fun than he had while performing FEVER. I love the way he dances and owns his music. What a fun show. For those that went…were there a lot of people singing along to the songs?

  110. Just a big thanks to everyone and MJ for all the awesome videos and pictures. I’m glad that Adam had such fun and a great connection with his audience. He looked super spiffy and hot last night. From what I could hear of the audio, he sounded awesome. And like many of you, I can’t wait to see him tour! Happy New Year!

  111. I’m curious too, although there were approx. 5000 people there anyone know how many were in Adam’s audience? They really didn’t seem like a NYE drunken hot mess of people. Which was nice I think.

  112. OhFerras @adamlambert —To say that you were incredible last night would be the understatement of the new decade. Awed.

  113. You’re welcome. I think sdljroller has the best ones but he/she is still uploading. A lot of fans have just come home and will start uploading soon I think. Suz that made a lot of nice video during the tour seems to have been to close to the stage and her audio is not well mixed.

  114. In no way is this a complaint’ ¦and I don’t know which one I would have changed it out for, but would have loved for him to put Pick U Up in there somewhere! Love that song!

I LOVE Pick You Up, but I don’t know if Adam can do it live. In an interview he did a week or so ago, he was asked how he managed to breathe and do the bridge. He said he took a deep breath at the beginning. Then he laughed and said he had a little electronic help.

  115. PUU will be no problem, it’s just that he has to breath somewhere in the bridge. That can be done.

  116. On the plus side, the excellent songs on the album and Adam and the band did a very good job presenting them.Extra plus marks for being creative. I think he’ll always have a srong core of fans that will love/ support his tour.

How well does this music connect with the mass market out there? Still an open question. Other negative – he’s still doing the sticking out the tongue thing to hit the high notes. I’m sure no biggie in a live show but a negative on TV or on a video for me.

  117. Okay, that settles it, I’m gonna go to an Adam concert in 2010 and that is my only New Years Resolution. If I can’t get the husband to go I’ll find someone or go alone, what the hell, you only live once!

Does anyone know if any of the fansites have a way to allow people who live in the same general area to chat online or whatever it takes to arrange carpooling or whatever?

  118. I don’t think he will stop the tongue thing as it is a vocal technique that he has been trained to do.

Still amazed at how well they meshed considering the short time they had for this. Can’t wait for the tour!

You can join the fan group for Tommy, Monte Longineu, Lisa they have alot of friendliness and coordination. It’s at The Glambert Rock website. I’m not sure if AO will ever have a chat the RCA mod says the resource demand is so enormous. Adam’s Official site is the BUSIEST and largest of all their artists including Michael Jackson!

  120. revcat, go to Planet Fierce, they have chat and some posters there went together to Gridlock.

I don’t think he will stop the tongue thing as it is a vocal technique that he has been trained to do.

Still amazed at how well they meshed considering the short time they had for this. Can’t wait for the tour!

Actually it’s a vocal technique that you’re not “supposed” to do but he uses it for certain effects. A coach would criticize him for using it. But since it changes the tone/timbre of his note/and/or relaxes/changes his chords to get more air back there he’s gonna keep doing so when he “needs” to. imo :) I think it’s quite random depending on his flexibility of voice on a particular day since he doesn’t do it in every song at the same place every time he sings it. Also can depend on warming up, humidity, tension etc.

I agree that band is awesome and they all say they really love each other. Monte is the rock and I enjoy him the most. Loved when he walked up to Adam to check him on Sleepwalker so that he was in the right place after thinking it was gonna be Fever. He really takes care of them all. I watched him check Longineu live too with a nod. A real pro. That proves why Madonna loved him so much. She beams when looking at him when performing with him. He says Adam is very loyal but I think it’s vice versa too.

  123. The tongue thing is not a problem on tv, they just have to switch camera when he does that and show something else. We don’t see it as often anymore right?

  124. Sorry, my bad. I thought masterclasslady mentioned it on her blog before, but it was a while ago. It is interesting to read what bothers people. As they say different strokes.

I love Monte. He probably has the most experience and I agree he and Adam seem to be very loyal to each other.

  125. According to people on DDD…Adam’s tongue technique:

Queenrosered: “Also, Lambert appears to use vocal “belts”, the way he positions his tongue sometimes. I read that this is a technique used by some pros to get to and sustain the higher notes without doing too much damage to the vocal chords.”

Cruz: “*For example, from watching Adam Lambert sing for the past few weeks, I figured out how he screams the way he does (or at least I think I did), and now I can hit pretty powerful F’s and G’s in falsetto (which I could never do before).

I noticed that he sticks his tongue out when he goes for those high wails, so I tried moving the back of my tongue out of the way of vocal cords more when in high head voice and, voila, transitions into falsetto are like nothing. ”

Ikon38: “Yeah, Lambert does do that a lot. He’s raising his soft palate so that his access into high head voice and falsetto is much more reliable to switch into and his chords are configured properly, making it easier to sing in. Its important to do this when singing in head voice because it naturally keeps you from pulling chest voice up too high. Its the same throat configuration as when your yawning.”

Some of these people are professionals and they debate about vocals a lot so I tend to believe what they say. I don’t mind him doing the technique anyways. It’s not that distracting for me.

I’m so looking forward to his tour. Crossing fingers for Vancouver or Seattle. I’m so excited and rewatching these videos makes me yearn even more.

  126. Wow… just watched some different videos of Adam from last night (close up and clear audio). I’m right back to how I felt watching him on AI. I swear I got done watching and I feel like I wasn’t breathing the whole time. But of course I was. Did my heart stop… I don’t know. I can’t wait for the next Adam peformance!

Thanks again for the all the videos. :)

I like it when Adam sticks his tongue out! But I’m also glad he doesn’t do it with every song. lol

  127. Actually it’s a vocal technique that you’re not ‘supposed’ to do but he uses it for certain effects. A coach would criticize him for using it. But since it changes the tone/timbre of his note/and/or relaxes/changes his chords to get more air back there he’s gonna keep doing so when he ‘needs’ to. imo

Hmmm, Master Class lady did almost a whole column one week on that tongue. The way she explained it, it sounded like a valid technique for something he was doing.

  128. The guy with him in the two pics mentioned above ^^^ was a dancer with P!nk’s Funhouse tour which just finished up. Maybe now that she’s done with her tour and back in the US somebody will ask her about WWFM. I have a feeling she’ll approve of what he did with it!

  129. Okay, that settles it, I’m gonna go to an Adam concert in 2010 and that is my only New Years Resolution. If I can’t get the husband to go I’ll find someone or go alone, what the hell, you only live once!

I went alone and met up with some Planet fierce people who were amazing!

  130. I love Adam’s tongue!! He can stick it out anytime!!! When he bends at the waist, sticks out his tongue, and hits those incredible high notes–UNF!!

  131. re: pic in the matching jeans…

He looks funny in tennies!! (or tennis shoes!!) I had to LOL!!

  132. Just saw the Yahoo interview vid – that was great! He’s such a complete natural in them – and looking beautiful, of course :-)

Oh, and I too loved the performance of Fever (he has a lot of fun with that one), Soaked (just gorgeous, sweeping vocals), Sleepwalker (I think this could be a KILLER single on radio for him – so haunting, and LOVE the ending vocals!), WLL (of course – that one will always be amazing!)

  133. Okay, that settles it, I’m gonna go to an Adam concert in 2010 and that is my only New Years Resolution. If I can’t get the husband to go I’ll find someone or go alone, what the hell, you only live once!

Don’t worry if you have to go alone – I went to 2 AI tour shows over the summer alone, and met some absolutely AMAZING new friends (still follow them all on twitter) because of it! Oddly enough, I always seem to meet fans of everyone but Adam (lots of Matt fans, apparently I attract them or something). But yeah, lots of people to meet :-)

  134. Hmmm, Master Class lady did almost a whole column one week on that tongue. The way she explained it, it sounded like a valid technique for something he was doing.

You are correct. She did discuss it and commented that that particular technique is correct. I have also read comments from other vocal coaches saying that Adam is using good vocal technique when he flattens his tongue.

  135. Re the tongue discussion above – I just started taking vocal lessons about 6 months ago (so I’m still nowhere near good enough ;-) ) but with my practicing I’ve definitely found the tongue can get in the way – I even tried a technique of holding my tongue and singing, which keeps it from folding back (like they mention in the DDD thread above) and constricting the sound. Obviously you don’t want to do that when actually performing (holding your tongue that is!) but it makes perfect sense to be having the tongue out (or technically, just lying flat) to keep the sound more open on high notes (on which your throat and vocal chords are tighter by nature).

  136. Oh, and just saw the pics someone posted above: I love that in one he looks so incredibly young, and in the other he looks so mature! Like two completely different looks!

  137. Nice to see that Pammy’s wardrobe malfunction has helped get Adam mentioned in the british press .. pics and story appear in The Daily Mail (one of the big UK papers

LOL! There is always always a little controversy that surrounds Adam. He is like a magnet to drama. Great pics in the Daily Mail.

By the way, is he supposed to be touring over there in the next few months. Is there a scheduled launch of FYE?

Gah I LOVE DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE!! I can’t stop watching it. So Epic!

Yes! So with you on this one! I LOVE it on the album, and was so excited to hear that he performed it live last night! I still get a kick out of Adam singing about ho’s as an AI alum – I think that’s a first ;-)

  139. I just got to say I can’t get enough of Adam and the band doing WLL last night! The end of the song just made me say…move over Robert Plant because ADAM owns this song now!!!!! (Just my opinion)

Thank you, MJ, and everyone who attended the Gridlock NYE Adam Concert and shared all their comments, vids, and photos with us! I kept replaying the videos all day!! I so want the Concert Tour to start now!!

  140. Happy New Year everyone. MJ, thank you for this amazing blog and to all of you who provide such entertainment for myself and my friends. To those who attended Gridlock and posted these fantastic vids, words can’t describe what a great start to 2010 you gave us who couldn’t go. You guys rock!!! Wishing you all a Healthy and prosperous 2010.

Teri 63, this is the only thing I could find with Adam’s possible upcoming appearances:

    http://adamlamberttv.blogspot.com/2009/12/upcoming-tv-appearances.html

  141. I’m glad he did a full show, considering the ticket price.

Still love Sleepwalker. I’m liking Music Again, Fever, and If I Had You a lot more from the live versions. Still can’t stand Sure Fire Winners. For Your Entertainment sounds a lot better when he isn’t shoving a face in his crotch, although he seems like he could benefit from a choreographer. I don’t get the Down the Rabbit Hole love at all.

Thanks mj and the taper for bringing the videos.

  142. Thanks for the heads up on the sdljroller vids of Gridlock as they have the best audio so far. I think this is my 4th time today watching the set, LOL and I love the banter in between the songs and the improvisations Adam does in the middle of some of the numbers like Sleepwalker and Strut. As if the vocals aren’t tough enough, he has to go soaring all over the octave ranges and leave us with gasping in astonishment at what he can do. I thought FYE was actually good on the sdljroller and not weak vocally as was suggested in another post .. but it’s hard to tell as the audio is far from perfect.

  143. If you look quickly at Adam’s photo heading the “Coming TV Appearances” from the link, it looks like John Travolta.

I think the best coverage of Adam’s Gridlock appearance is right here. Next best thing to being there.

  144. Thanks MJ and all those who share pics, vids and comments here. I just started to like “soaked” after listening it for the 5th or 6th time. I love it now. He makes the song sound even more beautiful live. What a supertalented singer he is!

btw, doesn’t he look a bit too thin right now? I hope he eats properly and doesn’t lose more weight.

  145. although he seems like he could benefit from a choreographer.

LOL! I think having a choreographer is what helped get him into hot water in the first place. :)
It’s funny, out of all the idols this year, Adam is the last one I would ever say needed a choreographer. JMO.

I’m glad he did a full show, considering the ticket price.

I know! Isn’t it great? It was SOLD OUT! 5,000 people at $150 and up!
Some idols seem to already be having problems filling performances MUCH SMALLER than this one. It’s kind of scary, isn’t it?
    I’m soooo proud of BB!

  146. I know! Isn’t it great? It was SOLD OUT! 5,000 people at $150 and up!

    I’m soooo proud of BB!

Considering this is a regular party for many locals I don’t think it’s that big a deal that it sold out. It’s also NYE. $150 is a pretty good price for most events. Especially since he wasn’t the only person on the bill. I just meant that some of Adam’s hardcore fans shelled out more than $500, and it’s a good that they got what they did. It’s not always the case with events like this. I like it when it works out like that.

I’m not sure who you’re backhandedly referring to with other Idols, but it seems to me that most of them do quite well, and have dedicated fan bases. Seems like many of them did well this NYE too. Daughtry, Kris, and Allison had high profile TV gigs, and David Cook headlined what looked like a pretty well sold show. Sold out or not, the crowd looked happy. Isn’t that what matters? That the crowd enjoys the show? Seems like everyone won, to me. Cause it looked like all the crowds I saw were having a ball.

  147. I’m wondering where this information came from that the event was sold out. I read it too – I think Q3 posted some info. about it. I was there – got there early (7:30) to wait in line (there were only 15 or so people waiting) and was one of the first to go in – walked right up to the main stage barrier and waited there. Had a great viewing spot and was quite glad that I didn’t spring for the $525-$775 “table” seats (which were actually couches). Those fans ended up standing for Adam’s performance anyway – they just stood about 20-30 feet closer.

He was fabulous live – the sound was great from where I was – center about 30 feet from him. A couple times I could not discern the backing track from him singing, but I think that’s because there was so much other noise (very loud DJ down the “street” playing hip-hop or rap). Also, the stage seemed to be pretty crowded with equipment.

I was VERY disappointed with the turn-out and the disorganization of the event in general. I didn’t think there were even 2,000 people there, so reports of it being sold out are surprising to me. They had PLENTY of bartenders and booze. The bathrooms were port-a-potties (no seat protectors) and they were dark. The food concessions were over-priced and not much choice – hot dogs, pretzels and nachos are what we ate.

We just stood at the main stage and drank because there was NOTHING going on until maybe 11 pm – and hardly anyone there. The MAIN draw was Adam. Hardly anybody was hanging around the DJ area and the other small stage where the Llamas girl performed had a quite small group. Around 11 pm it seemed to get a little more crowded. Maybe there were lots more people in the “VIP” area (I was General Admission) but they really had room for lots more people, and the “table” people were probably no more than 100 people. I felt a little sad that the turn-out to me seemed smaller than it should be. The one guy in our group of 5 thought there weren’t more than 1500 people there.

I don’t think the General Admission price was too high really – especially if you like unlimited cocktails (I brought four 20-somethings with me who got our money’s worth there let me tell you) and Adam really put on a great show. The audience seemed to be at least 80% women, and I really wished he had a larger, younger, audience with more men – but oh well, I got a FANTASTIC show. I wish I had just worn jeans (instead of dressing up) – I was cold just standing and drinking all that time.

After Adam performed, there wasn’t anything else to stay for and we left but had to wait and fight for a taxi for an hour or so. We had a great time, Adam was very professional and amazing, but that venue really sucked.

  148. I don’t think the General Admission price was too high really ‘“ especially if you like unlimited cocktails (I brought four 20-somethings with me who got our money’s worth there let me tell you) and Adam really put on a great show.

I’m curious what the four 20-somethings thought of the show and their impressions? And are they male or female or previous fans?

  149. Just some thoughts…..Clearone you and I had wondered whether he would be gross/lewd…whatever word you pick…because he’d be on after midnight to an over 21 crowd….To me these perfomances were everything I could ever hope . So amazing. There will be a time and place for costumes, OTT, etc but it didn’t happen here and I’m fine with that. The voice was the star Even the “crotch grabbing” was more like pulling up his pants from that area.

Actually FYE could have used a couple of dancers. This song needs people for him to react to (the words), but the small stage, quick put together, etc, etc. could not afford the luxury of all this stuff.

I had only heard Down the Rabbit Hole once before and now I like it!! Yes, PUU would have been nice, also Broken Open maybe but I got exactly what I was hoping for. Can’t wait until the next appearance. I hope too somehow he’ll get publicity out of the affair. Wonder if there were any celebrities there? (not PA).

  150. Thank you MJ and all the videographers for documenting Adam Lambert’s outstanding performances at Gridlock for us all to savor. Your efforts are truly appreciated. What could have been a very sad New Year’s Day for me turned into a day of joy and wonder. I was enthralled watching this amazing entertainer perform live so many of the songs from his FYE album that I adore. Then Whole Lotta Love left me totally breathless! Can’t wait for his solo tour. I’ll be there with my new much younger Glambert friends.

  151. The audience seemed to be at least 80% women, and I really wished he had a larger, younger, audience with more men ‘“ but oh well, I got a FANTASTIC show. I wish I had just worn jeans (instead of dressing up) ‘“ I was cold just standing and drinking all that time.

Well 20% men is good imo since he/we already know his fans are women.

I’m pretty sure Adam has a good sized younger female base but they are broke and college students. Just look at ONTD_AI and the other fan sites.

I don’t see how you’d expect any different at this time. Isn’t Idol ALL women fans essentially? And “older”? I never watched it or had any interest but it seems to me that the older women permeate the fan bases of all of them. I guess Daughtry and Cook get guys but they still have the idol label even when they play colleges. It would never occur to me or my 28 yr old son (in the music business) to go see either one of them in person.

Adam has the male gay factor going for him and I know several groups of gay guys who attended his summer shows so hopefully his base will sort itself out once he sheds the idol label. Which I’m pretty sure he’s willing to wear for awhile since it gave him his present success.

I’m sure Adam appreciated you going dressed up since he dresses up for everyone. You knew it was an outside event, right? Bummer if not and you went without the cold protection I hate when I do that. And drinking doesn’t help usually. :)

I think it was good practice for Adam to play this venue. He’s used to playing to a crowd of drinkers but Upright & Zodiac are different than a music stage venue and he needs to find ways to engage the crowd without sounding mechanical. Not an easy thing for a theater actor. He got the feel for it when the crowd sang the songs they knew, I’m sure which is half the battle. Red One said every song needs a chorus to be a Gaga song. There’s a science to being a big crowd draw even if people want to think not. Watching Freddie you see that. Adam has a long haul in front of him but I think it’s gonna be fun and great especially having experienced band members who’ve played around the world in big venues. Watching Monte is one of my favorite moments in these shows you see he’s the rock of the group imo. And again you saw that in his Madonna shows. She used to absolutely beam looking at him on stage now I see why.

  152. “Down the Rabbit Hole” is a great song and I am very pleased it was included in the lineup. I was surprised Pick-You-Up didn’t make the cut, however, I was happy with the selection of songs that did. I really enjoyed the playful and campy delivery of “Fever.” the part at 1:20, when he does this little mime bit, is genius. I was thrilled with the encore too. It was astonishingly good and a great way to cap off the evening. I can’t wait to see Adam and his band live. I do think they need to rehearse more. I understand that they didn’t have much time to prepare for the 40min set, and under the circumstances think they did a great job. I would suggest they get back-up singers; Adam seems to get confused when his prerecorded back up vocals are piped in. Sometimes it seems as though he doesn’t know what part he’s suppose to sing. It sort of looks sloppy, but, then he touches himself and all is right with the world. :)

Gah I LOVE DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE!! I can’t stop watching it. So Epic!

Yes! So with you on this one! I LOVE it on the album, and was so excited to hear that he performed it live last night! I still get a kick out of Adam singing about ho’s as an AI alum ‘“ I think that’s a first ;-)

LMAO I didn’t even think of that. So funny. So many AI “firsts” then ha ha.

  154. Just some thoughts’ ¦..Clearone you and I had wondered whether he would be gross/lewd’ ¦whatever word you pick’ ¦because he’d be on after midnight to an over 21 crowd’ ¦.To me these perfomances were everything I could ever hope . So amazing. There will be a time and place for costumes, OTT, etc but it didn’t happen here and I’m fine with that. The voice was the star Even the ‘crotch grabbing’ was more like pulling up his pants from that area.

I have to admit, as well, that I think Adam came across very professionially and he was every entertaining without all the antics ala the AMA’s or Zodiac. He looked wonderful and sounded excellent in the video I have watched. It was a great appearance for him which should bode well for him in the future (although admittedly I still would have preferred to see his perform a couple of these songs, this way, on national television……but it wasn’t to be…..hopefully next year.

Re the tongue discussion above ‘“ I just started taking vocal lessons about 6 months ago (so I’m still nowhere near good enough ;-) ) but with my practicing I’ve definitely found the tongue can get in the way ‘“ I even tried a technique of holding my tongue and singing, which keeps it from folding back (like they mention in the DDD thread above) and constricting the sound. Obviously you don’t want to do that when actually performing (holding your tongue that is!) but it makes perfect sense to be having the tongue out (or technically, just lying flat) to keep the sound more open on high notes (on which your throat and vocal chords are tighter by nature).

It’s not about making sense though, it’s about doing damage from poor technique that you intentionally use. It’s called flat/retracted tongue. Here’ s two discussion on it. Why it should not be promoted by so called professionals as a “go to” technique. Not to be confused with the method of flattening your tongue to work on relaxation of the jaw/mouth/throat which KRIS needs to do. See number 4 here:
    http://www.vocalfocus.com/relax.html

Negative critiques on using flat tongue:

    http://www.vocalist.org/group/vocalist-temporary/message/12624.html

    http://www.voiceteacher.com/tongue.html
    http://www.voiceteacher.com/damaging.html

I picked these at random but there’s tons of them. Adam’s a little stubborn about his voice we know because he quit vocal training a number of years ago because he wanted to do it his way LOL. As he’s interviewed. That’s not to say he doesn’t still work his vocals properly but I think a professional will always gain from another professional’s input early on. Watching Pavarotis’ master class on covered vocals alone shows you how one slight thoughtful critique of your cover can make all the difference in the world. Including jumping the music slightly in the beginning of an aria so the audience doesn’t hear the music and ignore your vocal since you are in competition with the orchestra. Pavarotti always covered the orchestra. He has a bunch of these tricks which is why so many people criticized him imo lol. Of course, Adam is responsible for every component of his career including the stupid ear monitors that plague him and pulling together 11 songs in 3 weeks so he hardly has time to focus on these things poor guy.

  156. So, Is Adam using a flat tongue when he sticks it out for the high notes. It sounds like he’s aiming for an “arched tongue” as is described in the articles. It seem like at 27, he’d already be having voice problems if he was using an improper technique?

The earpiece fiddling drives me nuts when I watch the Gridlock and other vids. I hope he can either get used to them or not use them at all. In half of the Gridlock vids you could see he had pulled at least one out. They obviously bug the hell out of him!

  157. The earpiece fiddling drives me nuts when I watch the Gridlock and other vids. I hope he can either get used to them or not use them at all. In half of the Gridlock vids you could see he had pulled at least one out. They obviously bug the hell out of him!

It’s not that they bug him. It’s that they weren’t working properly.

  158. sleepinggiant:
Have you ever been to Masterclasslady’s site? She completely disagrees with you and these articles on the tongue technique.

Articles can be found on vocal techniques that contradict each other. You found a couple that were negative, but others can be found that are positive. It’s like everything. Different coaches or professionals are going to have different opinions about techniques.

Example: Look up straight tone singing. It’s what so many of the pop singers do nowadays. Some professionals will say it’s bad technique and it will hurt your vocal cords and others will say it is the preferred method of how they want their choirs to sing. Who is right?

we know because he quit vocal training a number of years ago because he wanted to do it his way

Adam never said that. He took proper lessons for years. Then he got to a point where he wanted to explore and be more about instinct with his voice. (probably to get away from some of the broadway sound) Exploration and experimentation are also learning tools.

but I think a professional will always gain from another professional’s input early on.

Adam had ten years or more of professional input! Much better than those contestants this year who had NEVER HAD A VOCAL LESSON! IMO, it showed!
We don’t know that Adam doesn’t have a vocal coach right now. He probably has someone who watches out for the health of his voice.

  159. It’s not that they bug him. It’s that they weren’t working properly.

Do you think so? It seems like he fiddles with earpieces in almost all performances when he’s wearing them-he did it alot on the tour. Maybe I only notice it when he does it, and not when he doesn’t :)

  160. I rather have someone look a little weird like tongue sticking out or weird faces and sound amazing than have he/she focus too much on looking good while singing. I just think worrying too much about what you look like when you sing can hurt your performance or make it much more difficult. Everyone probably has some unusual techniques but if it is learned, natural for the person and difficult to change and not affecting their singing I’d say just let it be.

  161. I thought he pulled out the ear pieces when the band’s part were quieter and his part was more center and then put them back in when the band kicked up again. Anyone else notice that? Maybe he gets reverb when he hits his high notes. I will say that is something that I notice too on almost all his performances, playing with the ear pieces, but I don’t care. He looks HOT while doing it lol.

ETA….I will say that no matter what (ear pieces, tongue, etc…) Adam gives you 110% and leaves it all on the stage. As a paying customer, that is all I ask for.

  162. I’m not sure who you’re backhandedly referring to with other Idols,

I wasn’t “backhandedly” referring to anyone. I was stating facts about the underwhelming attendance at some shows. (not the show up for free NYE shows)

LA Times estimated there to have been about 4,500 people. They probably have a lot of experience of figuring out the size of the audience.

No reason to be sad about that! 4,500 showed up at $150 plus per ticket!

Well 20% men is good imo since he/we already know his fans are women.

That’s a better percentage of men than I saw on the AI summer tour! :)
Also, it was a 21 and over event that had a steep ticket price in this economy. That cut out teens, college-age and many young adults.

  163. I will say that is something that I notice too on almost all his performances, playing with the ear pieces, but I don’t care. He looks HOT while doing it lol.

I will try to see it this way too! Although its not as hot as when he plays with his .. NVM ;)

  164. Whole Lotta Love ‘“ clearest audio & video, but in 2 parts

    part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tqoMyTJ-o4

Good God! Adam made love to the word Baby!(and to the watchers) Then he finished the crowd off with That Look! Then the way he turned and strutted off! The look said, “Yeah, I just gave you one helluva ride”. Gah!

  165. Not really on this topic but it looks like FYE mv fell totally off the VH1 top 20 countdown. It was #16 before the holidays…the first and only time it made the list. Of course Rhianna and all the guns is number 10. Who votes for this junk?

I’m wondering where this information came from that the event was sold out. I read it too ‘“ I think Q3 posted some info. about it. I was there ‘“ got there early (7:30) to wait in line (there were only 15 or so people waiting) and was one of the first to go in ‘“ walked right up to the main stage barrier and waited there. Had a great viewing spot and was quite glad that I didn’t spring for the $525-$775 ‘table’ seats (which were actually couches). Those fans ended up standing for Adam’s performance anyway ‘“ they just stood about 20-30 feet closer.

I was VERY disappointed with the turn-out and the disorganization of the event in general. I didn’t think there were even 2,000 people there, so reports of it being sold out are surprising to me.

I posted that I had spoken to people at Gridlock and that the VIP tickets were sold out and General Admission were close to sold out. There were similar reports on IDF. In fact, they added [and sold out] 8 additional VIP tables to the event.

Regarding the information that the event was “sold out” — it was reported by several news sources on 12/31/09 but I think the LA Times report is more accurate. I believe that the LA Times report of 4,500 people must be based on a number from Gridlock. They would not print a specific number without a good source.

  168. Good God! Adam made love to the word Baby!(and to the watchers) Then he finished the crowd off with That Look! Then the way he turned and strutted off! The look said, ‘Yeah, I just gave you one helluva ride’ . Gah!

I know right!! I didn’t think I would want to hear WLL anymore, but dear God, I was SOOOO wrong! LOL

Not really on this topic but it looks like FYE mv fell totally off the VH1 top 20 countdown.

As I said in the headlines thread – I don’t think it’s that big a deal. He is going to be On the Record on FUSE Jan 11th. Maybe they are planning to debut WWFM then.

  169. Not really on this topic but it looks like FYE mv fell totally off the VH1 top 20 countdown. It was #16 before the holidays’ ¦the first and only time it made the list. Of course Rhianna and all the guns is number 10. Who votes for this junk?

Oh, no – really :-( I voted for the mv throughout the week. Aww…that vid is awesome.

  170. Re the vocal technique, again, I’ve only been taking lessons for a little amount of time, but I’ve been an avid opera listener for many many years, went to a music conservatory, etc. And imo, Adam is not damaging anything – Kris, Allison, and Danny all have faulty techniques that could potentially cause damage if they’re not careful (Daughtry too, which is why Andrea Bocelli got on his case about not singing from the back of his throat so much). Adam, otoh, especially hitting those high notes, and regardless of what he does or doesn’t do with his tongue, has a very open sound, open verbrato, no tightness, no tension – which is a sign that your doing it properly. So I think he is fine.

  171. I’m pretty sure Adam has a good sized younger female base but they are broke and college students. Just look at ONTD_AI and the other fan sites.

ITA – going to the idol tour, plus having been to a number of events like the Early Show, I was surprised at how many young (college, teens) were there. And men and women.

I remember before going to the Early Show, people were joking that, being an AI contestant, the crowd would be all over 50 women, and when I stood in line, I was surrounded by 20-something men and women. So, I think he definitely has fans all over the place ;-)

  172. I picked these at random but there’s tons of them. Adam’s a little stubborn about his voice we know because he quit vocal training a number of years ago because he wanted to do it his way LOL. As he’s interviewed.

That is not what Adam said in interviews about vocal coaches.

    1. He had profession vocal coaching for 12 years pre-idol plus coaching during Idol and the Idol tour.

    2. He very specifically discussed the fact that he wanted to move beyond traditional vocal techniques used in music theater.

    3. There are a lot of expert evaluations of Adam by vocal experts, but very few have complaints about his vocal technique. And if he did not have a combination of excellent vocal technique combined with vocal talent, how could he hit the F5 without tearing up his voice?

Many rock singers [like Chris Daughtry] has great range but poor vocal technique, and their voices deteriorate over time. Just compare Chris Daughtry now to how he sounded when he first walked onto the Idol stage. The comparison is startling.

Then listen to the videos from Adam’s NYE performance — I am waiting for some good audio of these performances, but the fluidity and range was amazing — except IMO the performance of FYE.

    4. Most experts give Adam very high technical ratings:

Nicolas Reveles, Geisel Director of Education and Outreach at San Diego Opera

Adam’s voice: As an opera professional this is probably going to sound strange, but I love his voice! I imagine he’s a baritone but he masks that with a terrific head voice (falsetto) that is incredibly well trained, fluid and able to communicate emotionally. It’s particularly good in his slower, lyric numbers like ‘The Tracks of My Tears’ and ‘Mad World’ . I also reviewed his performance of ‘Black and White,’ where it seemed to me that at times he was driving the voice a little hard. But one has to accept that with pop and rock singers. His pitch is excellent, even in those crazy ‘coloratura-like’ passages; the only pitch issue I had was with the initial moment of the very last note in ‘Mad World’ but he obviously heard the problem and fixed it on the spot. That was very professional, very self-aware, and it’s something that opera singers often have happen to them as well. So he’s in good company.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A comment on FYE live performance — I really think that Adam needs to come up with a different vocal arrangement for this song for live performances. It just doesn’t seen to work well without the layering of his vocal tracks. Many of the songs from the Gridlock NYE concert were better live — two stood out to me: Soaked was better without the heavy-handed production and with Adam’s vocal improvisations; and Sleepwalker was just much better in this more rock-oriented version. I really want great clear versions of both of these live performances.

  173. Clearone I had a very clean mind until last January-now it is in the gutter. My 14 yo daughter is appalled that my language is now as bad as hers!

…and why is that? Why is it necessary to have minds in the gutter or nasty language to be a fan? I’ve never understood that.

  174. Many rock singers [like Chris Daughtry] has great range but poor vocal technique, and their voices deteriorate over time. Just compare Chris Daughtry now to how he sounded when he first walked onto the Idol stage. The comparison is startling.

Chris is in BIG trouble if he doesn’t take good care of his voice! Even on idol (and I loved him on idol) I was afraid about his technique – very strained in the back of the throat, which can be dangerous, especially doing rigorous tours etc.

  175. Oh, goodness. I think most of Adam Lambert’s fans kind of embrace the lyric, “Sex is not the enemy.”

In addition to everything else he’s got going on, he’s obviously very sexy, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong in acknowledging/admiring it.

And words are just words – usage can be nasty, if the user’s intention is cruel, hurtful, or hateful. After that, it’s all context.

(I tried to make my point a bit less . . . colorfully. Sorry if I offended.)

  176. Q3
“This person cleaned up the audio on a lot of songs. Here is Sleepwalker. I played it in itunes and it sounds pretty good. I wish Adam would re-release FYE as a live album.”

I think that would be a great idea, something he can do at the end of the tour, taking his best of the best for a new album. It could be a cd of live performances with videos . His fans would absolutely buy that one, while waiting for him to record a new album with original songs.

  177. In addition to everything else he’s got going on, he’s obviously sporting a monster between his legs,

Note to all: DO NOT EAT PEANUTS IN A SHELL WHEN READING THAT LINE—-hazardous to choking!!! I almost had to dial 911….. Holy shit that is too funny!! A monster…LOL

I want to comment on the live album – YES – his live vocals are so very different from his studio. It’s like 2 different songs sometimes.

    Oh Jees…that monster line…ROFLMFAO!!!!

  178. <‘ ¦and why is that? Why is it necessary to have minds in the gutter or nasty language to be a fan? I’ve never understood that.

It is not necessary to be a fan. It just happened to me through exposure to words and ideas that I haven’t seen or heard in my day to day experiences.

I never used the F word but have seen it so much on the blogs and heard it so much on videos that it has rubbed off. As far as the sex stuff-it is just fun to joke around about, which up to recently, I have never done. Being a fan of Adam has loosened me up, in a good way. By not being so uptight about swearing and sex, my daughter actually has stopped doing it as much because she can’t shock me as much anymore. And we have improved in our communication about sexual issues too.

But I did not mean to imply that you need to enjoy all the sex talk and dirtier stuff to be a fan. Adam needs all types of fans!

  179. The live cleaned up version of Sleepwalker is really good! Thanks for sharing. Who did it btw?

They should def release live album.

  180. Chris is in BIG trouble if he doesn’t take good care of his voice! Even on idol (and I loved him on idol) I was afraid about his technique ‘“ very strained in the back of the throat, which can be dangerous, especially doing rigorous tours etc.

I recently saw him live and it is too late. I do think that the vocal damage is severe. I was a big fan of Daughtry’s on Idol — not a huge fan of his second album — but really expected to be impressed with him live. I was not, his voice is not raspy and his poor breathing technique makes it seem like he is straining when he signs. He was such a gifted vocalist but has dissappointed me with his lack of artistic development and lack of charisma live.

Adam has really good technique and during the idol tour seemed to be learning that he had to pull it back a bit to do that kind of touring. I think he should be OK.

So, Is Adam using a flat tongue when he sticks it out for the high notes. It sounds like he’s aiming for an ‘arched tongue’ as is described in the articles. It seem like at 27, he’d already be having voice problems if he was using an improper technique?

No not really. Adam’s the only one who can answer the “why’ and “when” but…he’s hitting the notes in his chest and maybe head transition so he doesn’t “need it” for the “high” note per se IMO….he could easily go higher.

He’s wanting a different “sound” imo. It’s a tonal thing I think for him. He really knows his voice which is why he will only do a Zepplin or GNR rock for example. Versus, say a Gene Simmons voice lol.

But also, the way I watch him is it’s periodic not specific to a song.

He’ll use the tongue randomly and to me it appears it’s more environmental than to hit a “note” with a couple of exceptions.

Environmental meaning if his throat is dry, chords are tight, or some other physical reason during that specific performance.

OR the exceptions being to get a certain sound or volume OCCASIONALLY. I haven’t tracked all the songs’ specifics but I see him do the same song with the same note with AND without the tongue. So that’s why I think it’s a case by case basis depending on the day if that makes sense.

Ten Commandments it’s hard to tell in Is Anybody Listening cuz we only have that one show on video but it’s a perfect example. That tongue gives him a different sound than a no tongue note would imo. He wouldn’t need it for the note it’s well within his full voice range.

He’s not using the traditional open O that you’d see in say, opera, he’s flattening it out. Like an AH instead of an O ….

see @ around 3:08 on my spirit FLIES…he’s opening his mouth WIDE and flattening instead of putting his tongue behind his bottom teeth (NOW< this could also be because he has the permanent retainer on his lower teeth too I guess..just a habit LOL )

Normally, you'd sing FLIES in a more O shaped mouth but he's going for a wider O like the word "BAACK" the AH sound

SO the question is is it for tone, volume, or just to relax his vocal chords to deliver that entire note/s the way he wants? Or if his voice is tired does he "need it" or the list is endless ha ha….

then at the end @ 3:40 on "SOMEONE" again…he's going for a transition out of "ONE" into more of a sound like a painful wail then back to "ONE" sound in that run IMO….

Then it's back at the end at 4:07.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvwcJUhIa0U

I dont pretend to know why but it's interesting and I hope he'll discuss it one day. He's always been focused on the "how to do that" part of singing according to his high school vocal teacher".

He uses alot of throat versus chest so it's a question I'd LOVE to see someone get into instead of all the stupid (imo) meaningless stuff. Then again it's all just second nature, sorta like being a marathon runner pacing I guess.

We need Brett Manning's analysis. HEY I think Aimee Mayo is a friend of his maybe we can get her to have him do an analysis ha ha. Just what poor Adam needs more nit picking LOL.

  182. “This person cleaned up the audio on a lot of songs. Here is Sleepwalker. I played it in itunes and it sounds pretty good. I wish Adam would re-release FYE as a live album.”

Sleepwalker is fantastic, Adam absolutely killed on this song. Sleepwalker, Sure fire winner and ALL was my three favorites. I appreciate whomever cleaned up the audio, because his voice is out of this world.

  183. The live cleaned up version of Sleepwalker is really good! Thanks for sharing. Who did it btw?

They should def release live album

OMG – I think I am too old for this – I laugh so hard I fell off my chair. The sad thing is that I had noticed already in all the vids.

  185. I knew my comment about Adam quitting vocal training would have backlash but he did say it. Now however you remember his words or equivocate is fine, whatever. I dont have time today to search the interviews. Perhaps my paraphrasing “his way” was too loose. He interviewed it several times and said it on tv many times.

here he is on the Early show at 1:30 “I took vocal lessons from about 12 or 13 till 20 or 21 then I just stopped. I started trying to figure out how to find my own voice. So it’s a combination like a dancer taking ballet then going into more interpretive stuff”.

    http://www.metacafe.com/watch/cb-yusKIUED_t_IWrMPRegFgsvjE8FHCsGw/ask_it_early_adam_lambert/

alrightly then Adam (mom voice). LOL

It’s not a criticism per se. I am just stating the tongue debate has two sides and is not something that he does capriciously as some viewers seem to think it’s just to be cool or sexy or something. There’s a reason for it.

Yes I’ve read the opera reviews etc I’ve read it all. I’m only stating the SINGLE ISSUE on the TONGUE LOL. They didn’t watch any songs with the flat tongue lol.

It doesn’t mater if Master Class Lady or whoever “disagrees with me”. I didn’t take a position one way or another ….only that it is a controversial subject as you can see on the internet.

If I were going to predict something it would be nodules from the wail not the tongue choices.

  186. Chris is in BIG trouble if he doesn’t take good care of his voice! Even on idol (and I loved him on idol) I was afraid about his technique ‘“ very strained in the back of the throat, which can be dangerous, especially doing rigorous tours etc.

I thought it was very telling when one of the mentors tried to help him with his breathing and had him lay down on the floor, Chris got very uncomfortable and you could tell he thought it was stupid and didn’t want to do it.

Glad you like that video. I AM CRAZY MAD for it. I could watch it 50 times a day ha ha and that’s funny cuz of her singing being nothing at all but I dont even care. There’s another one where she’s playing guitar next to him on her knees staring up at him smiling so warmly like a little girl in love with her dad. It’s so presh really really sweet. I have to find that. I totally changed my impression of Madonna in the past few years. But this video for me…wow.

First, OK Monte O M G. He IS the total rock star. He joked he’s gonna have to dig that shirt out of storage with the boots ha ha.

Then Madonna is so LIKABLE in it. The backup singers and the ZODIAC-ER dancers. O M G. Everyone happy and partying.

here’s another fav of mine with Monte and the most awesome dancing. Adam could totally do this …wearing a different outfit than Madonna hahaha

That’s how I see it for Adam please the universe it be so.

  188. I posted that I had spoken to people at Gridlock and that the VIP tickets were sold out and General Admission were close to sold out. There were similar reports on IDF. In fact, they added [and sold out] 8 additional VIP tables to the event.

Regarding the information that the event was ‘sold out’ ‘” it was reported by several news sources on 12/31/09 but I think the LA Times report is more accurate. I believe that the LA Times report of 4,500 people must be based on a number from Gridlock. They would not print a specific number without a good source.

Q3: thanks for responding! I feel much better – and I think you’re right, they must have had accurate info to report the 4,500. I guess people were just spread out more than I expected. It seemed like they could have fit many more in that space. Maybe they limited the crowd for safety issues or other reasons.

My estimates of the age and sex of the crowd were just wild guesses – mostly my attention was focused on Adam and the people I was with. I brought my 20-something kids and they warned me (from watching videos from last years Gridlocks) that it seemed to be a “club scene” type crowd. It wasn’t this year – there was a variety of all ages. I felt quite comfortable (except for my clothes – kind of chilly in a skirt).

The people I knew who were in the main stage table section had reported to me how unorganized it all was – they didn’t quite have room for everyone at the couches, took a lot of time to check them in, and they had to wait a long time in line for their buffet dinner.

My kids LOVED that they had bartenders waiting to cater to their every wish all night!

I guess I was expecting that there would be entertainment going on starting at 9 pm, but it didn’t start until 11 pm.

Anyway, fabulous show and well worth the money for us!

Gee some of you have dirty minds ‘ ¦..

    Duh!

  190. I’m curious what the four 20-somethings thought of the show and their impressions? And are they male or female or previous fans?

jun: the four 20-somethings are my 2 daughters, one brought her boyfriend and the other brought a girlfriend. No, not big Adam fans – none of them EVER watched Idol before (I haven’t ever watched Idol either though). They do like Adam’s music since I’ve introduced them to it but not as fanatic as me. Although, lately they keep singing “Whataya Want From Me” at random times to each other.

They thought Adam did a great job – they were right up front at the barricade with me (well, we lost the girlfriend for a while who was making out with a random guy there); my daughter and her boyfriend were cheering loudly (I think you can even hear the boyfriend on some of the youtubes lol) and my other daughter and I were dancing up a storm.

I will admit they were pretty drunk though – they had a lot of cocktails. But we had a great time!

  191. Some Adam pic of Xmas eve in Allison’s party. Hope it’s ok to post them here since it’s Adam’s thread and is dated’ ¦

I loved these pics-esp the one where Adam is helping to set up/figure out the New Moon game-the one that was tweeted about as needing a genius IQ to play it. I can just imagine the conversation going on in that pic: “Now where are those F***in rules?” “Does this go here?” etc.

    So ordinary..I love it!

ok one more slightly off topic but it’s hopefully what good feeling of success Adam has in the future…. here’s this guitar playing Madonna vid with Monte. Burning UP in Paris. It basically is yuk but MONTE comes out (after she sings down on my knees) and they play together and look at her face at 2:32 when she looks at him she’s like so proud she is playing that guitar and looking for approval or something. Its very sweet. It’s the same face you see in all their “teaching Madonna guitar” videos. Its what Monte did on NYE when Adam announced the wrong set list and set up Fever instead of Sleepwalker and he walked over to reassure and check him. I love that guy. And being an ex zodiacer can only help.

  193. I saw something funny on CNN that I think the Adam Lambert fans will find humorous.I was flipping channels and stopped when I saw a picture of Adam in his KISS outfit. A thought flashed through my mind, what has Adam done now. But they were simply talking about the deal between FOX and Time Warner, and I guess they use Adam as a pretty background. I thought that was so hilarious, of all the pictures to use, Adam Lambert was their choice.

  194. MJ, and all the Lambert fans out there, Happy New Year! It has been so long since I registered I don’t know if I have ever commented online before. I guess I am a lurker, checking in every day. We were really thinking seriously about going to Gridlock, but made it as far as LaConner Wash., from Vancouver BC, and I was feeling ill 30th and 31st, so we stayed put. My husband is one of the good ones who likes his woman turned on, whatever it takes, so he was determined to see Adam with me, loves to watch my reactions. I was up till 3AM trying to see anything I could find from the concert, and was so thrilled to find all the videos you posted here next day. Much Gratitude to you! What an awesome set he performed (not to mention the set he gaped at when introduced! Loved the comment “why does she bother getting dressed!”) What a year we as a couple have experienced starting with “Satisfaction” on AI. I went in to my husband in the other room and raved “You have to see this kid on American Idol! He is going to be huge worldwide!” I have never been even overly impressed by a singer before, besides Aretha and Celine, and Elvis, so this idolatry was totally new to me, and disturbing at first, but I now just accept that I am reliving my teen years and enjoying it immensely. May 2010 be Adam Lambert’s year to shine on with his unreal voice and glamgorgeous looks. American Idol will never find another like him.

  195. Is that for real or has someone done some creative enhancements.

I have no idea but I was cracking up and thought of the earlier “dirty minded” and “monster” discussion. I couldn’t resist posting it. :-)

  196. My brother (in his 50’s who is lovin our boy because I’ve been bombarding him with Adam everything for a long time) asked me if I knew what Adam’s IQ was. My bro is so impressed with his intellegence and interview savvy ways that he was curious. I think early on it was mentioned, but does anyone know?

LOL. Well, based on previous pics, I’m betting that’s all real :-)

Yes! Loved the pics too – thanks for sharing! So funny about the New Moon game – lol.

sleepinggiant, I liked your analysis of Adam’s vocal technique – very interesting, and I think I’m definitely like him in terms of always asking HOW you do certain sounds, HOW it works, etc. I’m constantly experimenting just as he has (is), so it’s all fascinating to me! That’s why I mentioned things like holding my tongue when singing, which is an interesting experiment to keep it from getting in the way. I’ve also tried the sticking the tongue out – and it DOES help for the same reason (less tongue tension getting in the way, especially in the back of the throat).

I thought it was very telling when one of the mentors tried to help him with his breathing and had him lay down on the floor, Chris got very uncomfortable and you could tell he thought it was stupid and didn’t want to do it.

Yes. IIRC this was Andrea Bocelli, the opera singer, guest mentor for Season 5.

  199. *Sigh*’ ¦. Unfortunately, we’ll never know for sure.

IDK about that ;-) Considering Adam’s penchant for creating a little, er, controversy every now and then, I wouldn’t be surprised if he gave fans a better glimpse one of these days.

  200. He was such a gifted vocalist but has dissappointed me with his lack of artistic development and lack of charisma live.

I felt the same way, Q3. I LOVED Daughtry during and after S5, and happily bought the first album, but just feel that even that effort, and the subsequent one, are too safe, too much the same. Sure, he’s sold a lot, but I feel there is no real risk taking in any of it. To really sustain yourself longterm you have to be willing to move away from your comfort zone, move ahead with the times, try something new. You can’t just be a Nickleback clone forever.

Yup, I totally agree with you that this is a possibility, but I certainly hope not. :) :) :)

  202. So do we have a “Pants-Gate” here. I think Adam has to get all that under control for network TV-it will never fly work for mainstream America to see that!

  203. Pants-Gate LOL!

Can someone make a list of all the “Gates”? At least once a week for Adam. At Gridlock besides Pants-Gate, we have to add Adampamboobie-gate (or think of a better name).

  204. ‘okay ‘“ here’s a pic for the dirty minded Adam fans ‘“ from Gridlock ‘“’

Hahaha!! Apparently performing is really exciting for Adam!!

  205. “No wonder they didn’t let people stand right in front of the stage. That could put an eye out!”

Stop it, It’s hard to laugh and drink ice tea at the same time. I am pretty sure that wan’t the reason they moved people back, but eventually some fan would have tried to grab and touch certain body parts of Adam.

  206. I think he needs to wear leather pants on network TV. It is a tougher fabric and holds everything in a little better. JMO

  207. “So do we have a ‘Pants-Gate’ here. I think Adam has to get all that under control for network TV-it will never fly work for mainstream America to see that!”

I am pretty sure the networks will have to revive the “Elvis” rule when televising Adam’s performances. Only show him from the waist up. Between his liking for tight pants and grabbing certain body areas, they won’t take a chance on him just promising to be a good boy.

Ha! They already used this rule when Adam performed WLL on AI…

OMG still laughing!! But my daughter swears he’s got a sock stuffed in there! (or maybe a pair!)

  210. That boy is packin’. They don’t call it the glambuldge for nothing! Holy cow…

  211. So glad you all got a laugh over the pic. He is here for our entertainment, and apparently his own! Thanks for the WLL close up vid. Awesome!

  212. Sleepinggiant ….I just caught up on the older posts (the family had the nerve to ask for dinner!) Anyway, thanks for those video links! I really hadn’t thought to check out Monte with Madonna. I didn’t realize he interacted with her so much! Very cool.

Thanks everybody for the hilarious comments about Adam’s package. I’ve been reading them all on my iPod while my family keeps asking “what are you laughing at?” I don’t think they’re ready for the glambuldge just yet!

    For our entertainment indeed….

  213. OMG! Tommy’s reaction to Adam’s tongue action. Haha! About 2:02

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pjh755mepuc&feature=player_embedded#

I wonder how much they practiced this with Adam, and how many of his “touches” he threw in at the moment. Tommy and Monty both looked pretty amazed at different spots on the video. Since they weren’t on the tour, they had never “seen” Adam perform it. The band members added so much and I think really inspired Adam to go all out.

  214. mama2dasha….I’m willing to bet that the practicing that went on prior to the performance was related to just the music. The majority of the moves seemed in the moment. The back-to-back deal at the beginning of Fever looked planned, but other than that, most everything else looked like Adam in the moment. :) Monte and Tommy sure looked like they were having fun and enjoying it all. I have to believe Tommy is having the time of his life. What a difference a couple of months can make in your life.

Too bad Lisa got cut out of the videos….I would have loved to see her with that keytar during WLL…I bet she was awesome.

Re: the tongue action during WLL….OMG!! That video really gives you an up close view!! All I’m sayin’ is that boy looks to have MAJOR talent beyond his voice. :)

  215. Oh I see people’s minds are still in the gutter……off to check out a diffrent thread.

  216. mama2dasha & tls62….agree with a both. Tommy looked shocked in a good way about the tongue. Tommy seems so sweet and innocent!

would love to know more about Lisa.

I think this WLL video is just about the best…picture may not be that perfect, sound may not be that perfect, but OMG it shows the best parts of Adam. What a showman.

  217. I just counted and I have downloaded 38 videos from Gridlock into Real Player. And I have watched all of them. I still can’t deciide whuch ones are the “best”.

  218. Tommy laughing at Adam’s tongue and then laughing to the guys standing off stage. Wonder what those guys reactions were.

  219. re: the sound at Gridlock and Adam’s earpieces

Reviews based on YouTube videos should be banned. The sound at the venue was really good. It was leagues better than the sound on the Idol tour. I was impressed. There was never a moment where I couldn’t hear the lyrics or thought the band was overpowering or something was off. The YouTube videos don’t do Adam’s voice or the sound justice. Each of the songs sounded better live than on the album.

I never noticed Adam fiddling with his earpieces. I also didn’t notice half of his dance moves. In a live setting, it’s a completely different vibe. I was dancing and singing (and drinking) and there were lights and solos and so much going on. So what may look weird or seem distracting through a camera zoomed in on Adam, wasn’t distracting live. Unless maybe you were in the front row, stone cold sober and not a fan.

  220. Lisa E, there were a few times on the vids where Adam stops singing, I think to get a breath. Did it sound weird when he did stop at some points or were the backing tracks louder than you can hear on the vids?

  221. Maybe there were lots more people in the ‘VIP’ area (I was General Admission) but they really had room for lots more people, and the ‘table’ people were probably no more than 100 people. I felt a little sad that the turn-out to me seemed smaller than it should be. The one guy in our group of 5 thought there weren’t more than 1500 people there.

I had a VIP ticket and it was pretty crowded everywhere I went. There was another tent with a DJ that was pretty full and lots of people hanging around everywhere drinking/talking/waiting at the bar. Most of the people around me were young (20s/30s). Men and women. Pretty LA looking for the most part. The older women on the couches were the ones who stuck out the most, IMO. The entire venue was pretty spread out (I didn’t venture far), but I think they did it on purpose. There was a cap on ticket sales.

Tommy: “See? Told you guys…pay up.”
Guys: “Damn..I guess he wasn’t kidding.”

    :)

It never seemed weird to me. I didn’t notice any sound issues live. His songs are so layered vocally that he has to pick and choose when he sings certain lines, but it really wasn’t distracting. In all honesty, watching the YouTube videos is like watching a different concert. He sounded great.

  224. Holy SHIT! He is such a great.. GREAT live singer.. I sure wish he’d record live :) These songs are so unreal live, but he just doesn’t do that on record.. I don’t know why, and I’m sure it’s still great, but his unreal live voice has spoiled us…

That has to be the best version of WLL…EVER, unfreaking real, wow!
I hope he records a lot of music while he still has that range… the man is unreal! I really like his band, too.

Lisa I agree, the sound was not a problem at the venue but the videos do not do Adam’s vocals justice. You see the mix board was set up for the hip hop music which was played and performed just before Adam’s set. The bass line was kept way too high and distorted the videos. Also Adam was pacing himself well and his vocal runs were well timed and he gave himself plenty of time in between in order to have maximum breath control and no straining and drank water in between songs which he did not do on tour. His illness on tour taught him some valuable lessons regarding his voice that he did not already know and practice IMO.

As far as there not being many people there, I had a VIP ticket, the line to get into the venue before 9:00 was very long. The VIP tent was huge and crowded. Most of my friends had general admission tickets so I was in and out of the VIP area. There were at the minimum 4,500 people milling about between the VIP area, tent, and the various streets and other stage. The venue was huge and set up like NYC with a lot of different street angles, no one area was huge where everyone could fit in at the same time, so people had to watch from other street areas.

  226. Talking about Tommy laughing at Adam’s tongue action in WLL, it reminded me of Freddie Mercury at Live Aid 1985 singing Radio Ga GA where he does some tongue action. It happens around 3:50. Here’s the link but I don’t know how to do it so you can go right to the link. I love this video by the way.

  228. wow I’m surprised at how good he was. I’m starting to really like him again. I think I may actually buy his album now instead of listening to it off youtube. When he doesn’t over emote or try too hard(he didn’t do that at all in those vids) theres no other male singer out there right now like him.

on another note, does anybody else find it hysterical that this guy said “long live rock and roll” right before he sang a RYAN TEDDER song? anybody?

Yay! We welcome you back… :-)

It’s a great album- I recommend putting it on in your living room, turning up the volume and dancing away! Most of the songs are very dancable and fun…

Yeah- that whole introduction was a hoot! He raves proudly about Gaga, as Sleepwalker starts playing in the back… the look on his face as he realizes his mistake is hilarious as he cocks his face sideways and then cries “Oh wait- it’s a different song! This is by Ryan Tedder!”

Just catching up on vids and posts and found these vids that show Lisa. What I like about this person’s vids is they are taken from a distance and zoomed out so we can see the whole stage, the band, and Adam dancing, and the sound is better because it was taken from farther away. He doesn’t cover all the songs here, but some and you can see Lisa ….but not during WLL.

Anyway, back to playing catch-up…..lots to look at!!!!
