Emmy Awards Tonight

UPDATE:  American Idol did not win in either nominated category.  The Academy Awards won for best direction and The Amazing Race won best Reality-Competition series…

The Emmy awards will be telecast live tonight on NBC at 8 pm EDT.  Conan O’Brien (I dig him) will host.  American Idol is nominated in two categories:

• Best Directing of a Variety show
• Outstanding Reality-Competition series

Could this be Idol’s year to finally win an Emmy?  Considering the show is more popular than ever, and actually gaining credibility–its alums have won awards and its current winner is an accomplished musician–this COULD be AI’s year.

Extra Added Bonus: Simon Cowell will  be on hand to lead a special tribute to legendary broadcaster, Dick Clark.
