Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live

Kevin Spacey hosted SNL last night and he parodied American Idol in his opening monologue.  You can watch it (sorry no longer available…).  Reality TV Magazine has a recap.  The skit spoofed the typical 90 second AI performance.  Spacey played to the cameras, acknowledged his “family” in the audience.  He danced and rolled around the floor. He sang to “Paula”.  And he finished it off with a giant glory note. Spacey managed to squeeze in little nods to Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee, and Elliott Yamin.  Did you catch his Bucky Covington hand to hand mic move?  Very amusing.

Later in the show, there was another Taylor Hicks parody.  Watch it here.  Not as funny as the first, but amusing nonetheless. edited…original was pulled, but there’s another one floating around the net.

  • According to a regular poster on the americanidol.com official forums,  Season One’s Tamyra Gray will host Taylor Hicks’s Birmingham viewing party.  This has not been announced officially yet.
  • There’s a rumor circulating that Clay Aiken will perform on Wednesday’s finale. This rumor was posted on a gossip site and is also unsubstantiated.
