2019 Emmy Awards Nominations Include The Voice, Amazing Race

Nominations for the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards were announced on Tuesday morning (July 16).

Despite being the highest rated competitive reality show in 2019, FOX’s The Masked Singer was only nominated in the expected category–Costume Design. America’s Got Talent only nabbed a Lighting Design nod, despite creator and executive producer Simon Cowell’s successful midseason Champions spin off. American Idol was completely shut out–the ABC iteration of the series has been almost totally snubbed by the Emmys. The Voice and The Amazing Race were nominated beside last year’s winner, RuPaul’s Drag Race, American Ninja Warrior, Nailed It! and Top Chef in the Reality Competition category.

Additionally, for the first time, the Jennifer Lopez produced World of Dance dominated the choreography category, receiving four nominations verses So You Think You Dance’s two. Dancing with the Stars was completely shut out of the category.

Interestingly, James Corden was nominated for cancelled ratings dud, The World’s Best, proving that name recognition is everything to Emmy voters.

Here are the tallies:

The Voice – 7
World of Dance – 5
So You Think You Can Dance – 4
Dancing with the Stars – 4
The Amazing Race – 3
Survivor – 2
America’s Got Talent – 1
The Masked Singer – 1
The World’s Best – 1
American Idol – 0

The Emmys will be held Sunday, Sept. 22 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, airing live on Fox.
