Bits and Pieces

Let’s catch up on some American Idol news, shall we?

The season of Jennifer Hudson is just beginning. She was named Best Supporting Actress for her Role in “Dreamgirls” by the New York Film Critics Circle.  And, she was recently named runner up for the Los Angeles Critics Association’s Supporting Actress prize and received the Best Breakthrough Performance honor from the National Board of Review. Congratulations Jennifer!

Carrie Underwood will soon be performing for US troops in the Persian Gulf region.  She’s set to embark on a holiday tour with the USO.  The USO has a long tradition of sending celebrities overseas during the holidays to entertain troops.  Pretty awesome.

Rodney Ho of Access Atlanta has a couple of link-worthy items here.  USA Today originally reported the news that Paris Bennett had signed with a label.  Rodney Ho reports that Paris has signed with 306 Entertainment, an indie label run by her uncle, Paul Jones.  Her uncle says she’s sticking with R&B/Pop for this first outing, and that her first single, “Dreamin'” will be made available on iTunes in January.

Rodney also interviewed Kellie Pickler and reviewed a recent performance at Arbor Place Mall in Douglasville, GA.  Make sure to check out the interview, Kellie talks about the emotional aftermath after her mom’s interview with the Charlotte Observer (she’s angry at the Observer and has no interest in reuniting with her mom), recording her album during the tour (she worked until 2 and 4 in the morning some nights) and her next single (it may be “I Wonder”, a lament about her absent mother).  Fun fact: Kellie has yet to put up a Christmas tree in her Nashville condo.
