12. Dog Days Are Over (The Voice Performance) – Vicci Martinez

74. Price Tag (The Voice Performance) – Xenia
86. Time After Time (The Voice Performance) – Javier Colon
92. Like a Prayer – (The Voice Performance) – Frenchie Davis

Blake Shelton wins! Heh. Javier is in the lead, as he was last week. Does this mean he’ll take the crown?

  • Trina

Wow is this the fastest Javier and Dia got that high?

  • NOLA

I think, like Scotty, he had the crown from his audition.

  • eyin

Javier is now at 11, Dia at 12.

I’ve picked Javier to win since his audition. I think he, Dia, Frenchie, and Vicci will be at the finale. This whole season just blew by too quickly. Auditions and battle rounds were longer than the actual finals. Weird. I’d rather have Dia, Xenia, Casey and Javier at the finale.

  • chrislongisland

I think Dia could take Javier, actually.

  • druzilla

Bev was my favorite. It felt like a concert performance. Go Bev!

I’m not surprised Dia is doing so well as she was my second choice. I didn’t like her on Heartless but her voice and style strike me as the most commercially viable.

I thought Nakia did fine with Pink’s/Lambert’s song but could’ve given a bit more.

  • Grammie Kari

I like both Vicci and Dia, but also feel Javier could win. I mean he actually took off his hat and looked rather nice. I’d like to see Frenchie in the finals, although I don’t think she’ll win.

I agree Nakia did a nice job on WWFM. It may have been his best performance.

  • chrislongisland

I think they should open it up for a Top 5, 1 from each team plus the highest scorer of the remaining 4.

  • Esqt

Adam’s WWFM is moving up too. Now, it’s #262. Hoorah! Thanks, CeeLo!

  • chrislongisland

By the way, this has nothing to do with anything, but I hope while everyone is iTunes they pick up Weird Al’s new album Alpocalypse. It really is amazingly funny and just another gem from one of my favorites ever!

Also, Idol should pay close attention and let their contestants chart next year!!!

  • springboard

I haven’t watched the show and I love Dia’s version of Losing My Religion.

  • koshka

Interesting that these are doing so well. I found each one a little soul-less. The recordings seemed to be missing something.

  • Elliegrll

Why? Where’s the surprise in finding out who is the highest vote getter? Other contestants may be hurt by people deciding not to vote, because they think that it’s a foregone conclusion that a particular contestant win win. There’s no drama in this, or a reason to sit through a show.

  • mmb

One of the reasons the recordings do well ( at least initially) is because a download= a vote. So some lazy peeps ( raises hand) download the song rather than dial the phone number. I didn’t really want the songs I downloaded but it was just easier for me to cast my vote that way. I hate phone voting

Exactly. This is one thing I will never understand why some fans clamor for.

Except with idol the person getting the most votes and the person selling the most on iTunes are often completely different things. Hayley was obviously selling way more than Scotty on iTunes prior to the final but Scotty was always getting more votes.

Yep, it’s a real nail biter, isn’t it.

  • musicality

Doubt Frenchie has a prayer. She wasn’t America’s favorite last week and Bev is charting higher than her and Bev blew her away last night. I think it will be Javiar, Dia, Bev and Vicci.

  • HermeticallySealed

Not to mention that the vast majority don’t care enough about the contestants to go sifting through the internet for clues as to who they should vote for. They vote from watching the show, not the charts. Might as well claim that Dial Idol (while it was at it’s peak) was harming contestants by showing who was in the lead.

  • Kirsten

Might as well claim that Dial Idol (while it was at it’s peak) was harming contestants by showing who was in the lead.

Idol did claim exactly that. They tried to shut down the site. When that didn’t work, they finally resolved some of the phone issues by greatly expanding the capacity so that DialIdol became way less effective. In Season 5, it was amazingly precise.

iTunes has proven to be a much more accurate predictor of who will win the fan vote and who the judge will pick (probably because they do know how to read an iTunes chart) than DialIdol has recently. There is no suspense in who moves onto the next round no matter how many times Carson tries to convince us that nobody knows who the audience will pick.

And, I would argue that DialIdol is a much more obscure site than iTunes. Further, nobody has to go to DialIdol to vote. iTunes is one of the ways people vote for contestants on this show. Anybody firing up iTunes is going to know exactly who is in the lead. I don’t think the “in the voice uber-fan-bubble” argument works here.

If Mark doesn’t get iTunes to block the songs from charting next week, he better make sure that he puts on an amazeball results show to keep people interested because they aren’t tuning in for the actual results. I can’t believe the press isn’t all over this already.

  • Allison

This was a good night, but the show is now too short, while the beginning rounds were too long. I hope they tweak it for next season.
I thought Beverly was wonderful, and even though I’m a fan of Frenchie, “Like a Prayer” is not what I want to hear her sing.
I find Xenia boring, off-key in parts, and very tentative, and I was on Dia’s team since the start.. Vicci vs. Nakia is the hardest for me to choose. Javier over Casey is a no brainer.

  • Elliegrll

Except with idol the person getting the most votes and the person selling the most on iTunes are often completely different things.

We don’t have the in season data to back this up, so it’s just a guess that has more to do with being upset that a favorite didn’t win, and has nothing to do with the show itself, and the most important thing, which is ratings. But even if we did have this information, so what? The point of watching the show is for the drama and suspense of seeing who will get the most votes. By having this data available, The Voice is hurting itself, because people already know who the top vote getter is, so what’s the point of casting a vote for a favorite, or even getting invested. The main thing that can hurt AI or The Voice is the idea that everyone doesn’t stand a chance to win, if people don’t think that there is a chance, then they will stop watching. It may be nice in terms of people who get overly invested, and who want to discuss the show on message boards, but it does nothing for the show itself, and its chances of sticking around for more than a couple of seasons.

  • Miss Blue

Why? Where’s the surprise in finding out who is the highest vote getter?

I completely disagree with this. As someone above stated, this past season it was painfully obvious that Haley was selling the most downloads. Yes, third place Haley.

Her YouTube videos were consistently ranked higher than anyone else, her rating numbers on ITunes were consistently higher, so even without seeing charts we can safely assume her recordings were the most popular.

Yet she came in third. Tragic, if you ask me. Beaten by Howdy Doody and his plastic doll.

  • emme

I loved frenchie, javier and dia. I hope frenchie is in the finale but I imagine that Bev will beat her in the end. Sad.
What’s up with the Levine guy pretending he had never heard of WWFM? I wonder why the big act and then the slam against Adam, “i bet you sang it better than the original singer.” That was unnecessary.

    Reminder:

Rehashing the past season of Idol is off topic in this thread. Let’s stick to discussing The Voice numbers.

  • Elliegrll

    Nvm.

  • Landmd

Do we know really who will win? What happens if the score the coaches give each of their contestants, puts one of the coaches voted in as the winner? Will it matter what they score them or is that part just for show?

  • chrislongisland

I think Idol should have the contestants chart because it would then prove that power voters don’t always translate into top sales for contestants with the most votes.

  • dinaa68

I wish Nakia was charting higher. Its a great song, and he gave a dynamic performance.

my pet peeve with the Voice…the band and audience frequently drown out the singers.

  • Kirsten

I think Idol should have the contestants chart because it would then prove that power voters don’t always translate into top sales for contestants with the most votes.

    A) Why would Idol PTB ever want to do that? They are neither insane or stupid.

    B) What makes anybody think that the losers don’t have crazed power voters? Online evidence certainly indicates that they do.

    C) In my experience, crazed power voters are most often likely to be crazed bulk buyers especially when sales count in some kind of “See! My Idol Deserved to Win”. The minute Idol songs can chart during the season, I fully expect a gifting frenzy to erupt.

What’s interesting here is that crazed power voters are encouraged on The Voice to bulk buy. Not only does it count as a vote, but it also allows one evidence that “My Contestant Deserves To WIN!!!!!!”

LOL. If any of the judges upset the iTunes apple-cart, The Voice will get its very own knoll.

  • Elliegrll

Do we know really who will win? What happens if the score the coaches give each of their contestants, puts one of the coaches voted in as the winner? Will it matter what they score them or is that part just for show?

The person who has lead on Itunes has always been the person who was voted in by the public. That, unlike some of the things that are usually discussed in reference to AI, is actual proof. But, more importantly, it’s something that could effect how people view the show.

I think Idol should have the contestants chart because it would then prove that power voters don’t always translate into top sales for contestants with the most votes.

The people who produce the show could care less about who is selling the most downloads. Frankly, it probably already deserves a knoll when some contestants are allowed to choose their own songs while others are given ridiculous songs to sing by their coaches.

  • Elliegrll

This may not have anything to do with the lack of suspense, but here are the half hour breakdown in ratings for last night’s episode.

    The Voice (NBC)
    9:00 p.m.: 7.8/13 (#1)
    9:30 p.m.: 7.6/12 (#1)
    10:00 p.m.: 7.2/12 (#1)
    10:30 p.m.: 6.9/12 (#1)

This downward trend has been a constant for the show over the past few weeks, and is indicative of viewers not being totally invested in what happens.

For a comparison, here are last week’s numbers:

    The Voice (NBC)
    9:00 p.m.: 8.4/13 (#1)
    9:30 p.m.: 8.1/13 (#1)
    10:00 p.m.: 7.4/12 (#1)
    10:30 p.m.: 6.9/12 (#1)

  • Kirsten

The people who produce the show could care less about who is selling the most downloads.

Exactly. iTunes revenue is a drop in the bucket compared to what these shows make in ad revenue. Higher ratings are what they want and that requires a show that has interesting characters (The Voice has that in the judges) and some suspense over who might win.

  • MayMirabella

Judging by this, I am guessing the voters will select Dia, Javier, Beverly, and Vicci. I guess it depends now on how the judges voted with the combined votes.

It would be interesting as 3 women and one man could be in the finals and it would be so cool to see moe girls than guys in the final 4.

  • Leslie7583

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Xenia. I want soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
badly for her to win. She has a truly amazing
voice. Every time I hear her sing I start to tear
up. She has such raw talent I can not wait til
she comes out with her first album and mark
my words she will that little girl is a star.
Every time I hear her sing it does something
to my heart, and it was like a match made in
heaven with Blake as her coach. He has such a
soft spot in his heart when it comes to Xenia it
just spills out it is no secret that Blake has been
team Xenia since the start. Like Christina said he
does seem like a proud papa watching her every
time. Xenia deserves to be The Voice she is such
a sweet, adorable, and amazingly talented little girl.
    GO XENIA

  • Kirsten

This downward trend has been a constant for the show over the past few weeks, and is indicative of viewers not being totally invested in what happens.

So it is losing ratings week to week and hour to hour within a week. No NBA game last night.

  • Leslie7583

The voters may choose Dia but Blake will make sure Xenia is the winner with his scoring

  • Kirsten

The voters may choose Dia but Blake will make sure Xenia is the winner with his scoring

Dia has a chance at winning (it will be her or Javier). Would Blake throw the “competition” between the coaches just for Xenia? He can help her behind the scenes.

  • thesheriff

Does anyone have numbers for these songs? Especially last weeks ….or an educated guess would also work… Thanks!

uneducated ….are they teasing about 75-100k???

  • Eileen99

I haven’t read all the comments, but just to chime in on the iTunes rankings. At first, I loved seeing the rankings & which contestants were most popular, which usually matched up with my favorites. But after a week or two of that, I changed my mind. It’s much more fun to speculate who is most popular, who had the best performance, etc. It’s like knowing what’s in all the Xmas presents before opening them. Boring.

I thought the best from last night were Javier, Dia, Vicci and Xenia. Of Christina’s team, I think I preferred Beverly although her head-shaking bothers me (shallow). Neither of Christina’s girls are really the type of singer I listen to, though. I think Xenia is going to be the unlucky one out because she’s paired with a strong contestant on Blake’s team, but I feel like Blake is invested in Xenia & will help her in the industry no matter what happens tonight.

  • Buffynut

I just listened to Dia’s i-Tunes from last night’s song. Did not like! Her recorded voice sounds very nasally to me. But, she and Javier are in the Top 10.
So, am I getting this right that the finals will be the Top 4? I like that better than a top 2. I really would love for Idol to go to a Top 3 for the Finals. It could effectively eliminate being able to vote “against” someone.

  • brie200

I’m mostly with you Eileen. I’m a spoiler kind of girl, so seeing the iTunes rankings is kind of fun. But I get why Idol chooses not to do this too. It’s one thing to speculate on who you think is pulling in the votes and which Idol/Idolette is more popular and etc., but The Voice really is taking all drama out of the proceedings. I have yet to be surprised by one America’s vote since they were all clearly spelled out on iTunes. There is no doubt in my mind that Javier, Vicci, Dia and Bev will move on, as I suspect that most of the judges played it safe and left the vote essentially in the hands of the public.

Also since somebody mentioned Blake stacking the deck for Xenia, I doubt he did. He knows he has a shot of winning this whole shebang with Dia and he’s not going to mess this up. He can give Xenia all the help in the world on his own time and through his own musical connections.

  • Mike M

I was surprised last night when I went to iTunes to shop around and discovered that Xenia has a couple of albums and an EP listed. Mostly jazzy sounding stuff. Didn’t like the sound because the recordings didn’t really capture her unique vocal tone. Casey also has an album of original songs listed. I’m sure some of the others do too, but I didn’t look.

  • Mike M

I think Javier, Dia, Vicci and Bev make the finals.
My choices would be Casey, Dia, Nakia and Bev.

This is where they pay for the cheesy coach competition. They have to keep one from each team to keep the coaches alive. In my opinion, this means better performers will be going home for the sake of the coach competition.

  • sr4mjc

Vicci Martinez has an album on iTunes too. The previews sound pretty good!

  • Pidge

Dia is NOT going to win.
It should come down to Vicci and Javier. Both deserve deals.

  • lorismile

I’d be surprised if Dia won.

I would think it will come down to Vicci or Javier. And I LOVEEE Vicci!!!

and the week to week loss in ratings AI matches Idol. Don’t they lose viewers week to week too?
