EPIC is the only word I can think of to describe Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon singing a cover of “Friday” with Taylor Hicks on vocals and Harmonica. Long story short, Steven lost a bet with Jimmy all in the name of raising lots of money for DonorsChoose.

Nice touch: Jimmy Fallon’s “Soul Patrol” sweatshirt. Taylor was showstopping AND HIGH-LARIOUS all at the same time. Balloons. Confetti. The Knicks cheerleaders. STEPHEN COLBERT RULES. You. Must. Watch. After the jump.

Check out another behind the scenes photo of Taylor with Jimmy, Steven and the Roots after the jump.

Longer version (with intro):

I reckon it’s in reference to Jimmy challenging Colbert to sing “Friday” by Rebecca Black. Colbert is apparently breaking out the big guns with Taylor Hicks and cheerleaders.

  • Studio57

Accck! I can’t stay up that late. I know I can count on MJs to have the vid tomorrow though :) Looks full of win! Jimmy Fallon should just dump the talk show bit and do nothing but musical skits- he is a genius!

Want to mention I’m looking forward to seeing Hicks too. I don’t care what anyone says about his record sales blah blah blah- he was always cool in my book. I would love to see him have the last laugh- sort of like Constantine is doing now.

Thanks for the thread on Taylor Hicks’ appearance on the Jimmy Fallon show with Steven Colbert tonight.

It’s wonderful that you publish the “tips” from your readers. Glad I forwarded these photos and comments to you.

BTW, Taylor’s Birmingham restaurant Ore is opening shortly!

This should be lots of fun to watch and I’m happy for Taylor he’s part of it! Thanks MJ for spoiling us with video!

  • kris10

SO excited! Thank you, MJ!! Holy cow, how wonderful :-D !!!

    Again, thank you, thank you!

  • tyrpen

And cheerleaders too!! I bet Taylor had a blast.
    Can’t wait.

  • datilpepper

Yes, thanks, MJ….I’ve always been a Taylor fan, too…Say what you will, he entertained us on AI5. I think he just might have the last laugh.

  • NOLA

We should all be lucky enough to have the money he has now.

  • hickifino

After all of these years of AI fandom, Taylor Hicks is still my favorite Idol! A versatile performer and genuine talent!

  • http://jgrollersellshomes.com juliegr

That was a great bit! Taylor’s entrance was hysterical :D

  • cochem

We should all be lucky enough to have the money he has now.

    Taylor tweeted earlier this evening..

The shit that I enjoy doing everyday. Wow…what a life. Thanks everyone. 5 hours ago

  • Girl4Reba

Epic Taylor Hicks. I loved it. I love Taylor & his voice. His tweets were all clues leading up to this Epic performance. Love his sense of humor and great spirit, too.

  • smeggingnuts

    haha that was funny

  • Mtlfan

that was definitly fun fun fun :)
    thanks mj

  • hickifino

Fallon is fabulously funny! Colbert is a good sport! Taylor is adorable!

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

This is GREAT exposure for Taylor because this bit is going to be picked up by all the outlets. I already see it on EOnline

  • Dlynne

I love Jimmy Fallon and still love Taylor Hicks so that was so much fun to watch. Will watch it live in half an hour. Thanks for the sneak peek, MJ!

Jimmy’s sidekick was talking up Taylor on last night’s show. He told Jimmy that he had a Soul Patrol shirt for him to wear. They hinted about Taylor making an appearance, too. It was cute.

Jimmy Fallon should just dump the talk show bit and do nothing but musical skits- he is a genius!

Absolutely agree! He’s a great talk show host, too, though. He’s my favorite. He had Elton John on last night and they had a convo about American Idol. It was great!

  • JudyOhio

That was fun to watch!! Love Fallon and Colbert and always love seeing Taylor! Glad he was invited to participate!

  • istersay

lol I was watching Fallon tonight and never expected that, it was a lot of fun to see

  • Nina1

What a kick! Taylor is great and such a sport! For all the abuse, he is definitely having the last laff.

  • Grammie Kari

Awesome, simply awesome! Taylor is a true entertainer. The guy is having fun doing something he loves. What more can an Idol ask for? I love his energy and dance movs, too!

  • hicksaholic

Two of my very favorite entertainers- Taylor and Stephen Colbert!!!! Who would have predicted that?? I think Taylor has SO many possibilities in show business, not just as a singer. He is infectious to watch(not even sure that makes sense except to me)
Thanks, MJ… this is great for Taylor. He needs to be reintroduced to America.

  • ray1

Never was a Taylor fan……makes me wonder if he even knew this was “comedy”, being he usual acts that way normally and when he sings “serious” with his “body moves”-it comes off like this musical skit!

  • Margaux

I was ROFL for the whole number. Would it have been half as funny without Taylor? Fallon had been talking about his investment in Soul Patrol Sweatshirts for the past couple nights.

Say what you will about Taylor’s winning Idol, and whether he’s been a success since then.. what other Idol could have pulled off that performance as well?

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

Huge Taylor fan and I’m thrilled to see him enjoying himself like this. Great skit!

  • TwigLA

That was fun. I love Jimmy Fallon and the musical skits are always the best. Great job by them all. Nice to see Taylor again.

  • Falfor

These guys actually made this gosh awful song seem like a real thing. They were fun to watch. Thanks for the smiles.

  • dcglam

All kinds of fun — thanks for the recommendation and vid, MJ! :)

  • sf3456

I hate all things NBC except for Community (best show on television) so I’m not interested in any of that. I’m just mad that Fallon seems to be getting the better guests than Conan ever did in that time slot.

  • JudyL

Great gig for Taylor and lots of fun to watch.

Is it just me or is he much handsomer these days? Some men get better looking as they age and I think Taylor is one of them. Better hairdo too.

  • Kirsten

    LOL. That was epic.

  • Joyed

This is super hilarious to me because just yesterday I was watching all the Rebecca Black videos on Funny or Die for April Fools Day. You have to watch the ones where she explains the “deep” meaning of the lyrics to Friday and the one “Betwixt the Music.” (She was hilarious in all of them, and she’s only 13!)

I think Jimmy has really come a long way as a late night host – he just knows the joy of viral video moments and pop culture and makes these awesome events to be cherished.

Congratulations to Taylor for being part of such a fun bit – he did a great job:)

  • googletot

What an awesome way to wake up this morning and see Taylor having a fun time. Thanks for posting this mj.

  • JOJOSIE

I didn’t stay up to watch this, but what fun. Jimmy Fallon is the best late night host because he’s talented as a performer and very likable. Glad to see another favorite of mine, Taylor, part of this hilarious skit. Thanks MJ for posting this. Great way to start the day.

  • http://www.amadcow2.com amadcow2

All just a big bucket of Win.

  • dancingqueen

Loved this! This version would probably sell! Two of Taylor’s strengths, are his work ethic & that he can laugh at himself. He may not have the radio hits & huge sales (though, I still don’t believe they should discount shipping Platinum & selling over 700,000 of his debut as poor). Still, he’s kept himself in the game, done a lot for charity, had a ton of fun, & is branching out as a businessman.

    Thanks, mj!

  • sunny2

Loved this. So funny!!! Love that Jimmy was wearing a Soul Patrol sweatshirt, and Taylor’s intro was in true AI fashion.

  • aek

Thanks, Mj, for letting us know this was coming on. I watched it last night….too funny. Always love to see Taylor!

  • Katniss

That was great!! Go Taylor!! lol

  • tinawina

OMG that is was craziest thing. LMAO!

  • SashaB

    That was fun!

Good for Taylor. He certainly had a great time, too.

  • caroleinfla

Thanks mj for the heads up yesterday. I couldn’t stay awake to watch it last night. I’m so thankful that you posted the video today. This is just the best. It’s good to see Taylor having fun.
Such a fantastic voice and the harp is super.
I had never heard the song Friday before today. I like Stephens voice too. It’s all good. Loved the picture too. very funny.

  • Suzanne

I’ve been watching this BFF-for-6-months bit from the Colbert Report. This was great, and Taylor Hicks in that part was so smart. I wish I was funny like this.

And people are saying that the song itself is by a 13 year old girl? That’s even WAY funnier.

  • sonyab

Thanks MJ for the video. Wow that was fun!!! Love the song!!! Love Jimmy’s soul patrol sweatshirt!!! :) WOOOOOOOO JIMMY SOUL PATROL!!! :)

  • AIaddict

Thanks for the update. I want to go there my next visit to Bham.

The skit was excellent. lots of fun, loved it!

  • MaryS-NJ

LOL! Pure awesomeness and WIN! <3

  • cookcricket

These guys actually made this gosh awful song seem like a real thing. They were fun to watch. Thanks for the smiles.

With those lyrics? Impossible. LOL! But they most certainly made it fun!!!!

This is super hilarious to me because just yesterday I was watching all the Rebecca Black videos on Funny or Die for April Fools Day. This is very funny too! She has a great sense of humor! Good for her!

  • Suzanne

I just saw the Rebecca Black video of this song on youtube, which for me makes this bit about a 100 times funnier (and it was already funny). Such a great slam. And Taylor–so awesomely funny as a choice to be in this thing (now that I’ve seen the original).

  • lla2827

    Thanks MJ! Loved it.

Fallon and Colbert are both musical and funny–always a good combination.

Glad to see Taylor getting some tv time.

Wonder when NBC will give Fallon the Tonight show and get rid of Leno once and for all.

  • MaryS-NJ

This is GREAT exposure for Taylor because this bit is going to be picked up by all the outlets. I already see it on EOnline

Yeah, I watched it on Huffington Post and came over here to see if you had it (but of course! Haha!).

  • just sayin

Well, Soul Paatttttrooolllll!!! That was all kinds of fun.

  • BootStar

Awesome! (Kinda thrilled Taylor got to be a part of it. That dude has been so universally slammed.)

  • hoodathunk

Yeah I’m, thrilled to see him in this bit too. The clip is all over the place today. Rarely does an Idol get asked to do something so hip, and Taylor is waaaay past due for his share. He always brings 100% to anything he does. Love the way he slid in on his knees. The crowd was saying “Oh, there he is” haha! Epic!

  • thesheriff

wow that was funny! was jimmy’s sweater lavender-y? wasn’t taylor in a lotta purple his season? purple beanie? purple shirt during “something”…was that my imagination?

  • sonyab

I just listened to Rebecca Black sing it and she sings it so bland. But Jimmy Fallon and everyone didn’t!! :)

  • Grammie Kari

Jimmy Fallon is the best late night host because he’s talented as a performer and very likable.

He really is. I have been watching his show since the first night. One thing to watch for is the REPEAT episode. Warching it on the TV set was so much fun. I was dancing away and having a good time. Love, love, love Taylor! Colbert is cool, too.

  • webster

Awesome. That song just begs to be parodied. Taylor was perfect for the over-the-top-i-ness of it. Who better than an idol to sell a cheese song as if it were good? They’ve got plenty of experience at it.

Still, the best part was Fallon’s visual aides to help clarify the deep lyrics for us.

  • milwlovesadam

Good for Taylor. Love Fallon’s musical spoofs and tributes. McCartney was awesome, but the Neil young one was best in my book!

  • abbysee

How cool is this. I adore these guys, especially Taylor, now that fucking song won’t get out of my head. Ugh, lol.

  • IdolThoughts

    EPIC!!! So much fun.
