Season 10 Idol alum, Stefano Langone reveals to E! News that he will be returning to Idol on the April 26 results show to sing his new single, “I’m on a Roll.”

“I’m a little nervous but so excited for the opportunity,” Stefano tells E!. “It will be almost a year to the day since I was last on.”

“I’m on a Roll” drops on iTunes April 24. Hollywood Records plans to release Stefano’s debut album this summer.

“I think a lot of people will be surprised because it’s a new sound,” Stefano says of his new music, “but I still have the same soul.”

And I’m very sad to say that collectively, the season 9 people just haven’t become much. That season is not revered and whether it’s fair or not to shut out those contestants (so to speak), it’s to be expected.

Another issue is that Casey took so long to release an album. After so many years, Idol is not going to be interested in promoting third place finishers from past seasons.

Elliott Yamin just put out a new album, do you think he will be on Idol? Nope. Melinda Doolittle if she had a single to promote? Nope. If Syesha Mercado or Danny Gokey got in the studio and released something now, would they be on Idol? Nope. Casey, third place finisher from two seasons ago just now releasing an album?  Probably not going to be invited either. I understand the frustration but also fail to see how it’s worthwhile.

It is a joke they wont have casey j back o. But my guess is Casey isnt worried about it. He is opening for allan jackson tonight and I think tomorrow so I doubt he is losing sleep. But he deserves the opportunity.

except for maybe Syesha, i believe all of the aforementioned people already put out a debut album. Aside from season 10, CaseyJ would be the most recent to put out a debut album, so i believe it would be relevant. and i think there would be more viewers excited to see him on that stage than some of the others Idol has invited. but it all seems like a moot point right now i guess….

  • too-cool-for-school

If only they would listen to my idea of booking just former Idol alums instead of LMFAO/Nicki Minaj types, maybe there would be more room for contestants of longer past seasons. They could save all of the Top 40 people for the finale. :)

well i’m with ya on that one!

Sometimes it is also a “schedule” thing… According to me Kelly Clarkson should have been the first American Idol (AI) alumn to mentor the AI hopefuls but it became Adam Lambert because if I am not mistaken, at the moment of the episode, Kelly Clarkson was on a world tour.

Totally. Agree. I tune out everyone else anyway.

That isn’t why I think he should have a spot. Not at all. What I’m saying is the non-charting peeps like Cookie (who I love) are still invited. Odd.

I guess my point is success. If CaseyJ was on an indie label or releasing music on his own (Yamin, Doolittle, Syesha, Gokey) then I wouldn’t expect he deserved a spot on AI. If his single had tanked or never moved up on the charts (Gokey, Pickler, Cookie) then I’d say – hey, totally cool with no invite. But neither is the case. CJ is on a major label who’s spent quite a bit of mulla on him. They gave him a year to write – and paid some big-time Nashville songwriters to collaborate with him. They have paid for LDCIAN’s vid plus a professional vid of an acoustic version of Drive – which I hope will be his next single. They also paid for another three vids highlighting three other songs on his CD. They have him had him touring radio stations since early last fail – I think the current count of his shows are about over one hundred. And then there’s the performance of LDCIAN. Released mid-August it was almost immediately t40. It has been t40 since – 9 months. It is almost certainly going to be a t20. Um. Let’s see. Pickler (who I love) couldn’t crack t25. And yet, she got a spot. Scotty’s TTWG – launched at the same time as CJ was retired many weeks ago at t17  - ah, with lots of AI publicity and coming off a winning season. And let’s see….. Scotty’s likely to get two? three? performances on Ai. Which is fine. I’m not angry, really. I’m okay with CJ not being on AI. Honest. Because it’s very typical of this guy to go down a different road. But it still burns a bit that there’s no invite.

But he’s only sold about 88k copies of the single.  That’s very weak for 9 mos.  He may be getting radio play, but he’s still not able to sell.  And that’s the thing that will ultimately matter to his label.  I think his album is only at 25K.

Stefano is signed to 19m/RLM.   He shares managers with Pia Toscano.   (See the RLM website).
19 or AI just tweeted about Pia’s photoshoot: she may be tracking for a June (or July) release.
CaseyA also seems to be fast tracking his album.   (Not sure if he is signed to 19m).

Wouldn’t be surprised to see both Pia and CaseyA perform this year.

Random: It looks like Haley Reinhart, Kris Allen, and James Durbin share the same 19m managers (Lane&Chiara).  James is no longer listed at the RLM page and 19m seems to only handle select events?

ooh. stefano dropped his last name? that hoodie should’ve dropped along with it. :P

nice cover art. looking forward to hearing his single.

Wrong Casey will be close to 100k on ldcian when the numbers come out next week. That actually is pretty good. His cd has only been out a few weeks and his cd sales arent going to be told in this first few weeks. It is going to be told with the second single. He deserves a spot more then a lot of these idols. He has a song that has been on the charts which seems like forever. Carol is right he hasnt failed he is succeding.

Not true. In the Ai bubble, you might think so. In country, no. CJ is on track as a very successful newbie on the country scene.

When you look at the list of artists being managed by 19M or signed by 19R, you see who gets invited to the show. Generally, if there’s no $ to be made, they’re not invited. So is Casey signed by 19 or managed by them. I’m guessing no and no.

I saw that CJ was opening for Alan Jackson I was excited for him it seems Alan has only one opening act  so a good set for him.  I think Easton Corbin is going to be his regular opener eventually  but others are filling in here and there Lauren is doing two show early in May in Florida.

Casey’s album has only been out for 3 weeks. Casey will reach 100k singles this week. That is impressive as he only sold 5k in his first week and he is now selling more per week then he did in his first week. Which isn’t always the case for many idol contestants.

I dont like comparisons between idols because they all in different genres and at different stages with their singles and they all have different styles and ways of achieving their success. But at the moment Casey is selling more per week then Adam Lambert, Kris Allen and Haley Reinhart. And Casey has a single that #21 on Billboard at the moment, and he is singed with 19r.

I am really glad all of these former alums can get a chance to perform on idol, it has been refreshing this year to see so many former contestants perform and they all deserve it, but so does Casey.

Casey is just doing a few dates with big names here and there. I think he will also be opening for Eric Church sometime soon.

Stefano my 2nd favorite last year . all we need is Pia my favorite to make me even more happy.

Sales can’t be the reason Casey hasn’t had an Idol spot;  Stefano’s single hasn’t even been released yet.  Casey is signed to 19R.  An Idol performance combined with the radio play and touring Casey is already doing would almost certainly help with sales and put more money in 19′s pocket.  Unless the AI producers are expecting Stefano’s single to be a massive hit, Casey performing LDCIAN would have been a surer bet financially.

“What I’m saying is the non-charting peeps like Cookie (who I love) are still invited. Odd.”

TBH, I don’t find that even remotely odd. Cook won and even if he isn’t charting right now, he’s still a very well-liked and remembered winner. His first album was pretty successful, if I remember correctly. Winners always deserve to be invited back, IMO.

I’m totally cool with the Casey James love I see here, but I just don’t think a ton of people really remember him quite that well or are demanding he perform on Idol. Not to say that you’re doing that because you aren’t, but I see it from others here and there.

I bring up the other third-place finishers because I feel they are on par with Casey in the mere sense that they aren’t in high-demand from the majority of Idol viewers. Casey’s fans want him but that’s only one fanbase. Idol will always cater to the winners and bigger stars that came from Idol. If Casey’s album does well, who knows, maybe he will be invited back in the future.

But with almost two seasons having passed since his, fairly mild buzz surrounding him as of now and a very recent album release, I just don’t think an appearance was ever in the cards for this season. Sorry, just my opinion.

It will be good to see Stefano perform.  He does have a great voice and is quite cute!

If enough people requested Casey James to perform, it might convince Nigel.  I will be letting him know my request!

I think it’s smart to use just his first name “Stefano” alone.  Not your everyday name and has a good “sound” to it.  Guy’s got an outstanding voice, hope he sells well and can make a good living from this.  (the hoodie is fine, but the way it’s draped on his head and so neatly brought down the sides doesn’t look natural, too posed)

I will go to my grave thinking that somehow Simon manipulated season 9 to make it weaker, and no logical argument can change my mind.  It had an awful judges panel, and the pimped winner was very sub par.  Scotty will always be a hero to me for what he did to restore the validity of Idol.  The kids got shafted and many were as talented as other season’s talented kids.  Casey so deserves a spot and to me Idol owes him that spot.   He is a wonderful musician and performer.  Stefano is good too, but by working hard for three years Casey J. has more than paid his dues.  Besides, as many have pointed out, Casey is having more current success than many that got a spot are having.

Jennifer Hudson isn’t signed to 19M or 19R, but she gets invited back.

Casey James isn’t signed with 19M, but he is with 19R.
